3Biofunctional Mg coating on PEEK for improving bioactivity显示文摘High purity Mg was successfully coated on polyetheretherketone(PEEK)by vapor deposition method in order to improve the bioactivity including antibacterial property of PEEK implant.The morphology and elemental composition of the coating were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and energy-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),showing that the coating was mainly composed of Mg at deposition temperature of 175C,185C,200C and 230C.The higher the substrate temperature was,the larger the Mg particle size was.The coating degraded and gradually peeled off from the surface of PEEK after up to 21 days'immersion.It was found that the degradation of Mg coating could strongly kill Staphylococcus aureus with antibacterial rate reaching to 99%.Mg can be expected to be coated on those bio-inert biomaterials to offer specific bioactivities.Xiaoming Yu Muhammad Ibrahim Zongyuan Liu Huazhe Yang Lili Tan Ke Yang 2018Bioactive Materials2018,3,2:6
4Apoptosis,antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of phytochemicals from Garcinia malaccensis Hk.f显示文摘Objective:To study the chemical constituents of stembark of Garcinia malaccenm(G.malaccenm) together with apoptotic.antimicrobial and antioxidant activities.Methods:Purification and structure elucidation were carried out by chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, respectively.MTT and trypan blue exclusion methods were performed to study the cytotoxic activity.Antibacterial activity was conducted by dise diffusion and microdilulion methods, whereas antioxidant activities were done by ferric thiocyanate method and DPPH radical scavenging.Results:The phylochemical study led lo the isolation ofα,β-mangostin and cycloarl-24-en-3β-ol.α-Mangostin exhibited cytotoxic activity against HSC-3 cells with an IC50 of 0.33μM.β- andα-mangostin showed activity against K562 cells with IC50 of 0.40μM and 0.48μM,respectively,α-Mangostin was active against Gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus) and Bacilus anthracis(B.anthmcis) with inhibition zone and MIC value of(19 mm;0.02S mg/mL) and(20 mm;0.013 mg/mL),respectively.In antioxidant assay,α-mangostin exhibited activity as an inhibitor of lipid peroxidation.Conclusions:G.malaccenm presenceα- andβ-mangostin and cycloart-24-en-3β-ol.β-Mangostin was found very active against H.SC-3 cells and KS62.The results suggest that mangoslins derivatives have the potential to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by inducing apoptosis.In addition,α-andβ-mangostin was found inhibit the growth of Cram-positive pathogenic bacteria and also showed the activity as an inhibitor of lipid peroxidation.Muhammad Taher Deny Susanti Mohamad Fazlin Rezali Farah Syahidah Ahmad Zohri Solachuddin Jauhari Arief Ichwan Suhaib Ibrahim Alkhamaiseh Farediah Ahmad 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,2:5
5Microwave-assisted solvent extraction of castor oil from castor seeds显示文摘This study was aimed at evaluating the physicochemical properties and oxidation stability of castor oil using microwave-assisted solvent extraction(MAE). MAE was performed using 5% ethanol in hexane as solvent at different extraction times, power intensities and solvent-to-feed(S/F, ml of solvent to gram of feed) ratios.The process parameters were optimized by statistical approach using historical data design of response surface method(RSM). The oils were characterized for yield, physicochemical properties, dielectric properties and oxidation stability, and comparison was also made with oil extracted using Soxhlet method. Results show that the maximum oil yield of 37% was obtained at 20 min with microwave power intensity of 330 W and S/F ratio of 20. The main fatty acid composition of castor oil is ricinoleic acid. The density, refractive index, dielectric properties and oxidation stability of oils are not affected by the extraction methods and extraction parameters of MAE. However, the MAE-extracted oil is more viscous compared to that by Soxhlet method. 6Determination of calorie and protein intake among acute and sub-acute traumatic brain injury patients显示文摘Purpose:Malnutrition is a common problem among hospitalized patients,especially among traumatic brain injury(TBI)patients.It is developed from hypermetabolism and the condition may worsen under the circumstance of underfeeding or incompatible dietary management.However,the data of nutrient intake especially calorie and protein among TBI patients were scarce.Hence,this study aimed to determine the calorie and protein intake among acute and sub-acute TBI patients receiving medical nutrition therapy in hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah,Terengganu.Methods:This observational study involved 50 patients recruited from the neurosurgical ward.Method of 24 h dietary recall was utilized and combined with self-administered food diaries for 2-8 days.Food consumptions including calorie intake and protein intake were analyzed using Nutritionist PRO™(Woodinville,USA)and manual calculation based on the Malaysian food composition database(2015).Results:Patients consisted of 56%males and 44%females with the median age of 28.0(IQR=22.8-36.5)years,of which 92%were diagnosed as mild TBI and the remaining(8%)as moderate TBI.The Glasgow coma scale(GCS)was adopted to classify TBI severity with the score 13-15 being mild and 9-12 being moderate.The median length of hospital stay was 2(IQR=2.0e3.3)days.Calorie and protein intake improved significantly from day 1 to discharge day.However,the intake during discharge day was still considered as suboptimal,i.e.75%of calorie requirement,whilst the median protein intake was only 61.3%relative to protein requirement.Moreover,the average percentages of calorie and protein intakes throughout hospitalization were remarkably lower,i.e.52.2%and 41.0%,respectively.Conclusion:Although the calorie and protein intakes had increased from baseline,hospitalized TBI patients were still at a risk to develop malnutrition as the average intakes were considerably low as compared to their requirements.Optimum nutrient intakes especially calorie and protein are crucial to ensure optimum recovery process as well as to minimize risks of infection and complications.Mohd Ibrahim Abdullah Aryati Ahmad Sharifah Wajihah Wafa Syed Saadun Tarek Wafa Ahmad Zubaidi Abdul Latif Noor Aini Mohd Yusoff Muhammad Khalis Jasmiad Nujaimin Udin Kartini Abdul Karim 2020Chinese Journal of Traumatology2020,23,5:3
7Smart Objects Identification System for Robotic Surveillance显示文摘Video surveillance is an active research topic in computer vision.In this paper,humans and cars identifcation technique suitable for real time video surveillance systems is presented.The technique we proposed includes background subtraction,foreground segmentation,shadow removal,feature extraction and classifcation.The feature extraction of the extracted foreground objects is done via a new set of afne moment invariants based on statistics method and these were used to identify human or car.When the partial occlusion occurs,although features of full body cannot be extracted,our proposed technique extracts the features of head shoulder.Our proposed technique can identify human by extracting the human head-shoulder up to 60%–70%occlusion.Thus,it has a better classifcation to solve the issue of the loss of property arising from human occluded easily in practical applications.The whole system works at approximately 16 29 fps and thus it is suitable for real-time applications.The accuracy for our proposed technique in identifying human is very good,which is 98.33%,while for cars identifcation,the accuracy is also good,which is 94.41%.The overall accuracy for our proposed technique in identifying human and car is at 98.04%.The experiment results show that this method is efective and has strong robustness.Amir Akramin Shafie Azhar Bin Mohd Ibrahim Muhammad Mahbubur Rashid 2014International Journal of Automation and computing2014,11,1:3
8Survival and outcomes for co-infection of chronic hepatitis C with and without cirrhosis and COVID-19: A multicenter retrospective study显示文摘BACKGROUND Chronic liver disease,particularly cirrhosis,is associated with worse outcomes in patients infected with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).AIM To assess outcomes of COVID-19 infection among patients with pre-existing hepatitis C with or without liver cirrhosis.METHODS This multicenter,retrospective cohort study included all cases of confirmed coinfection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 and chronic hepatitis C with or without liver cirrhosis who were admitted to six hospitals(Al-Sahel Hospital,Al-Matareya Hospital,Al-Ahrar Hospital,Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital,Al-Gomhoreya Hospital,and the National Hepatology and Tropical Medicine Research Institute)affiliated with the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes in Egypt.Patients were recruited from May 1,2020,to July 31,2020.Demographic,laboratory,imaging features,and outcomes were collected.Multivariate regression analysis was performed to detect factors affecting mortality.RESULTS This retrospective cohort study included 125 patients with chronic hepatitis C and COVID-19 co-infection,of which 64(51.20%)had liver cirrhosis and 40(32.00%)died.Fever,cough,dyspnea,and fatigue were the most frequent symptoms in patients with liver cirrhosis.Cough,sore throat,fatigue,myalgia,and diarrhea were significantly more common in patients with liver cirrhosis than in noncirrhotic patients.There was no difference between patients with and without cirrhosis regarding comorbidities.Fifteen patients(23.40%)with liver cirrhosis presented with hepatic encephalopathy.Patients with liver cirrhosis were more likely than non-cirrhotic patients to have combined ground-glass opacities and consolidations in CT chest scans:28(43.75%)vs 4(6.55%),respectively(P value<0.001).These patients also were more likely to have severe COVID-19 infection,compared to patients without liver cirrhosis:29(45.31%)vs 11(18.04%),respectively(P value<0.003).Mortality was higher in patients with liver cirrhosis,compared to those with no cirrhosis:33(51.56%)vs 9(14.75%),respectively(P value<0.001).All patients in Child-Pugh class A recovered and were discharged.Cirrhotic mortality occurred among decompensated patients only.A multivariate regression analysis revealed the following independent factors affecting mortality:Male gender(OR 7.17,95%CI:2.19–23.51;P value=0.001),diabetes mellitus(OR 4.03,95%CI:1.49–10.91;P value=0.006),and liver cirrhosis(OR 1.103,95%CI:1.037–1.282;P value<0.0001).We found no differences in liver function,COVID-19 disease severity,or outcomes between patients who previously received direct-acting antiviral therapy(and achieved sustained virological response)and patients who did not receive this therapy.CONCLUSION Patients with liver cirrhosis are susceptible to higher severity and mortality if infected with COVID-19.Male gender,diabetes mellitus,and liver cirrhosis are independent factors associated with increased mortality risk.Shimaa Afify Basem Eysa Fatma Abdel Hamid Omnia M Abo-Elazm Mohamed A Edris Rabab Maher Ahmed Abdelhalim Muhammad Mostafa Abdel Ghaffar Dalia A Omran Hend Ibrahim Shousha 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,42:2
9Water Quality Index Using Modified Random Forest Technique: Assessing Novel Input Features显示文摘Water quality analysis is essential to understand the ecological status of aquatic life.Conventional water quality index(WQI)assessment methods are limited to features such as water acidic or basicity(pH),dissolved oxygen(DO),biological oxygen demand(BOD),chemical oxygen demand(COD),ammoniacal nitrogen(NH3-N),and suspended solids(SS).These features are often insufficient to represent the water quality of a heavy metal–polluted river.Therefore,this paper aims to explore and analyze novel input features in order to formulate an improved WQI.In this work,prospective insights on the feasibility of alternative water quality input variables as new discriminant features are discussed.The new discriminant features are a step toward formulating adaptive water quality parameters according to the land use activities surrounding the river.The results and analysis obtained from this study have proven the possibility of predicting WQI using new input features.This work analyzes 17 new input features,namely conductivity(COND),salinity(SAL),turbidity(TUR),dissolved solids(DS),nitrate(NO3),chloride(Cl),phosphate(PO4),arsenic(As),chromium(Cr),zinc(Zn),calcium(Ca),iron(Fe),potassium(K),magnesium(Mg),sodium(Na),E.coli,and total coliform,in predicting WQI using machine learning techniques.Five regression algorithms-random forest(RF),AdaBoost,support vector regression(SVR),decision tree regression(DTR),and multilayer perception(MLP)-are applied for preliminary model selection.The results show that the RF algorithm exhibits better prediction performance,with R2 of 0.974.Then,this work proposes a modified RF by incorporating the synthetic minority oversampling technique(SMOTE)into the conventional RF method.The proposed modified RF method is shown to achieve 77.68%,74%,69%,and 71%accuracy,precision,recall,and F1-score,respectively.In addition,the sensitivity analysis is included to highlight the importance of the turbidity variable in WQI prediction.The results of sensitivity analysis highlight the importance of certain water quality variables that are not present in the conventional WQI formulation.Wen Yee Wong Ayman Khallel Ibrahim Al-Ani Khairunnisa Hasikin Anis Salwa Mohd Khairuddin Sarah Abdul Razak Hanee Farzana Hizaddin Mohd Istajib Mokhtar Muhammad Mokhzaini Azizan 2022Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2022,,9:2

17Permittivity models for determination of moisture content in Hevea Rubber Latex显示文摘The commercial open-ended coaxial probe(Agilent 85070E)is the most commonly used sensor to determine the permittivity of wet materials.This paper extends the usability and applicability of the sensor to the estimation of moisture content in Hevea Rubber Latex.The dielectric constant and loss factor were measured using the commercial probe whilst the moisture contents were obtained using the standard oven drying method.Comparison results were obtained between the different dielectric models to predict moisture content in latex.Both the dielectric constant and the loss factor of rubber latex linearly increased with moisture content at all selected frequencies.Calibration equations were established to relate both the dielectric constant and the loss factor with moisture content.These equations were used to predict moisture content in Hevea latex from measured values of the dielectric constant and the loss factor.The lowest mean relative error between actual and predicted moisture contents was 0.02 at 1 GHz when using the Cole-Cole dielectric constant calibration equation.Nor Zakiah Yahaya Zulkifly Abbas Nursakinah Mohamad Ibrahim Mardiah Hafizah Muhammad Hafizi Muhamad Zamri Yahaya 2014International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2014,7,5:1
