| 1 | Natural purification effects in the river in consideration with domestic wastewater pollutant discharge reduction effects显示文摘The first social experiment program in Japan to reduce domestic wastewater pollutant discharge by 'soft interventions' in households has been conducted in the Yamato-gawa River drainage area since 2005.The Yamato-gawa River has been listed as one of the worst water quality rivers in Japan because of the larger annual average BOD.'Hard interventions' including deployment of wastewater treatment facilities and artificial installation of natural purification facilities in the river has been conducted in these years to improve river water quality.At the first Yamato-gawa River social experiment program (YR-SEP) in March 2005,BOD at the monitoring point near the river mouth decreased about 6% during the Program.Natural purification effect along the river was evaluated in this article with one-dimensional water quality model for the six river sections.Larger biological oxygen consumption rate,k b ,was estimated in the sections with artificially installed natural purification facilities.The effect of 'soft interventions' in households in the YR-SEP was estimated as 25% BOD decrease in the nearest monitoring point to the river mouth,when all the households participate in the Program and BOD discharge reduction rate with 'soft interventions' in households was 40%. | Yoshiaki Tsuzuki Masato Fujii Yasuo Mochihara Kouki Matsuda Minoru Yoneda | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010，22，6： | 5 |
| 2 | Pneumoscrotum: A rare manifestation of perforation associated with therapeutic colonoscopy显示文摘Pneumoscrotum is uncommon and also rarely reported as a complication associated with colonic perforation. A case of colonic perforation in delayed fashion associated with EMR, revealed by pneumoscrotum, is reported and the associated literatures are reviewed. A 52-year-old male received piecemeal EMR for a laterally spreading tumor 35 mm in size in our hospital. He complained of enlargement of the scrotum and revisited our hospital the day after the procedure. A diagnosis of pneumoscrotum was made, and as most such cases have been reported to be associated with pneumoperitoneum, colonic perforation was suspected. Free air but no fluid collection was found by abdominal computed tomography, and delayed colonic perforation was diagnosed. However, as there were no clinical signs of peritoneal irritation,conservative treatment was administered and the patient recovered uneventfully. | 3 | Macrophage colony-stimulating factor expressed in non-cancer tissues provides predictive powers for recurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM To investigate the role of macrophage colony-stimulating factor(M-CSF) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) after surgery. METHODS Expression of M-CSF, distribution of M2 macrophages(Mφs), and angiogenesis were assessed in the liver, including tumors and peritumoral liver tissues. The prognostic power of these factors was assessed. Mouse isolated hepatic Mφs or monocytes were cultured with media containing M-CSF. The concentration of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in media was assessed. Furthermore, the role of the M-CSF-matured hepatic Mφs on proliferation of the vascular endothelial cell(VEC) was investigated. RESULTS A strong correlation between the expressions of M-CSF and CD163 was observed in the peritumoral area. Also, groups with high density of M-CSF, CD163 or CD31 showed a significantly shorter time to recurrence(TTR) than low density groups. Multivariate analysis revealedthe expression of M-CSF or hepatic M2Mφs in the peritumoral area as the most crucial factor responsible for shorter TTR. Moreover, the expression of M-CSF and hepatic M2Mφs in the peritumoral area had better predictable power of overall survival. Values of VEGF in culture media were significantly greater in the hepatic Mφs compared with the monocytes.
