| 2 | Double balloon endoscopy associated pancreatitis:A description of six cases显示文摘AIM:To perform a single-center analysis of all double balloon endoscopy (DBE) related cases of pancreatitis identified prospectively from a recorded DBE-complication database. METHODS:From November 2003 until January 2007, 603 DBE procedures were performed on 412 patients, with data on complications recorded in a database. The setting was a tertiary care center offering DBE. DBE was performed from the antegrade or retrograde route. Out-come measurements included age, gender, medication, indication, DBE-endoscope type, insertion depth, proce-dure duration, findings, interventions, post-procedural abdominal pain, and post-procedural hospitalization. RESULTS:This is the largest single-center study report-ing on post-DBE pancreatitis prospectively. Six patients (1.0%) developed post-DBE pancreatitis, all after antegrade DBE. There was no association with gender, duration of the procedure or type of endoscope. The mean age was 51.9 years (range 25-78). Four patients had severe pancreatitis. Of these, two had inflammatory signs in the body-tail region, one had pancreatitis in the tail region, and the total pancreas was involved in one. CONCLUSION:The incidence of post-DBE pancreatitis in our series is higher than previously reported. We found no relation with DBE-endoscope type. | 3 | Validating cone-beam computed tomography for peri-implant bone morphometric analysis显示文摘Cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT) has been recently used to analyse trabecular bone structure around dental implants. To validate the use of CBCT for three-dimensional(3D) peri-implant trabecular bone morphometry by comparing it to two-dimensional(2D) histology, 36 alveolar bone samples(with implants n527 vs. without implants n59) from six mongrel dogs, were scanned ex vivo using a high-resolution(80 mm)CBCT. After scanning, all samples were decalcified and then sectioned into thin histological sections(,6 mm)to obtain high contrast 2D images. By using CTAn imaging software, bone morphometric parameters including trabecular number(Tb.N), thickness(Tb.Th), separation(Tb.Sp) and bone volume fraction(BV/TV) were examined on both CBCT and corresponding histological images. Higher Tb.Th and Tb.Sp, lower BV/TV and Tb.N were found on CBCT images(P,0.001). Both measurements on the peri-implant trabecular bone structure showed moderate to high correlation(r50.65–0.85). The Bland–Altman plots showed strongest agreement for Tb.Th followed by Tb.Sp, Tb.N and BV/TV, regardless of the presence of implants. | 4 | Abdominal computed tomography in refractory coeliac disease and enteropathy associated T-cell lymphoma显示文摘AIM: To evaluate computed tomography (CT) findings, useful to suggest the presence of refractory celiac disease (RCD) and enteropathy associated T cell lymphoma (EATL). METHODS: Coeliac disease (CD) patients were divided into two groups. GroupⅠ: uncomplicated CD (n = 14) and RCD typeⅠ(n = 10). Group Ⅱ: RCD type Ⅱ (n = 15) and EATL (n = 7). RESULTS: Both groups showed classic signs of CD on CT. Intussusception was seen in 1 patient in groupⅠvs 5 in group Ⅱ (P = 0.06). Lymphadenopathy was seen in 5 patients in group Ⅱ vs no patients in groupⅠ(P = 0.01). Increased number of small mesenteric vessels was noted in 20 patients in groupⅠvs 11 in group Ⅱ (P = 0.02). Eleven patients (50%) in group Ⅱ had a splenic volume < 122 cm3 vs 4 in groupⅠ(14%), 10 patients in groupⅠ had a splenic volume > 196 cm3 (66.7%) vs 5 in group Ⅱ (33.3%) P = 0.028. CONCLUSION: CT scan is a useful tool in discriminating between CD and (Pre) EATL.
