| 1 | Computational study of different venturi and orifice type hydrodynamic cavitating devices显示文摘This paper reports optimization of various geometrical parameters of two types of hydrodynamic cavitation reactors(HC) such as venturi type and orifice type. Mostly orifice and venturi nozzles are used as HC reactor, a simple valve can also be used to cause cavitation which depends on geometry and area of opening. Different operating and geometrical parameters such as divergence angle, throat height/diameter to length ratio, number of holes and inlet pressure to the cavitating device were selected to study the inception, growth and dynamics of cavities. In this work, a comprehensive computational fluid dynamics simulation is performed to numerically investigate the 3-D flow behaviors within HC reactors using cavitational model with standard k-ε Turbulence model. The study of different geometries of venturi type HC reactor(like slit, circular and elliptical) shows that 1:1 of the ratio of throat height/diameter to length ando 6.5 of divergence angle is an optimum geometry for best cavitational activity. In case of orifice, 1:3 of the ratio of diameter to length is best for cavitation and an increase in the total flow area increases the cavitational yield. | Kuldeep Virendra Kumar SAHARAN | 2016 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2016,28,2: | 11 |
| 2 | Neuroprotective Effect of Chrysophanol as a PI3K/AKT/mTOR Signaling Inhibitor in an Experimental Model of Autologous Blood-induced Intracerebral Hemorrhage显示文摘Objective Intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH)refers to predominant, sporadic, and non-traumatic bleeding in the brain parenchyma. The PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway is an important signal transduction pathway regulated by enzyme-linked receptors and has many biological functions in mammals. It plays a key role in neuronal metabolism, gene expression regulation, and tissue homeostasis in the healthy and diseased brain. Methods In the present study, the role of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway inhibitor chrysophanol(CPH)(10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg,orally)in the improvement of ICH-associated neurological defects in rats was investigated.Autologous blood(20µL/5 min/unilateral/intracerebroventricular)mimics ICH-like defects involving cellular and molecular dysfunction and neurotransmitter imbalance. The current study also included various behavioral assessments to examine cognition, memory, and motor and neuromuscular coordination. The protein expression levels of PI3K,AKT,and mTOR as well as myelin basic protein and apoptotic markers, such as Bax,Bcl-2,and caspase-3,were examined using ELISA kits.Furthermore, the levels of various neuroinflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress markers were assessed.Additionally, the neurological severity score, brain water content, gross brain pathology, and hematoma size were used to indicate neurological function and brain edema. Results CPH was found to be neuroprotective by restoring neurobehavioral alterations and significantly reducing the elevated PI3K,AKT,and mTOR protein levels, and modulating the apoptotic markers such as Bax,Bcl-2,and caspase-3 in rat brain homogenate.CPH substantially reduced the inflammatory cytokines like interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-6,and tumor necrosis factor-α.CPH administration restored the neurotransmitters GABA,glutamate, acetylcholine, dopamine, and various oxidative stress markers. Conclusion Our results show that CPH may be a promising therapeutic approach for overcoming neuronal damage caused by the overexpression of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in ICH-induced neurological dysfunctions in rats. | Kuldeep Singh JADAUN Sidharth MEHAN Aarti SHARMA Ehraz Mehmood SIDDIQUI Sumit KUMAR NaifALSUHAYMI | 2022 | Current Medical Science2022,42,2: | 5 |
| 3 | Dengue:epidemiology, prevention and pressing need for vaccine development显示文摘Dengue fever is a mosquito born viral infection, and the complicated form of dengue is dengue hemorrhagic fever(DHF).In the recent decades incidence and distribution of dengue has increased dramatically.Dengue viruses belong to family flaviviridae with four serotypes and are transmitted mainly by mosquito Aedes aegypti.Today almost two-fifth of world’s population (2.5 million) is at risk of dengue and no specific antiviral drug or vaccine is available against it.Uncontrolled population growth in Africa and South East Asia has increased number of susceptible hosts in urban and semi urban areas.About 40%of world population resides in the high risk area for dengue transmission.According to latest estimates by WHO,yearly 50 to 100 million infections occur globally, this includes around 500 000 DHF and 22 000 deaths, mostly among children.Only symptomatic treatment in the form of analgesic, antipyretics and body fluid management is provided to the patient.Prevention strategies mainly focus on two approaches, firsdy on activities to control vector and secondly on activities to protect human from mosquito bite but there is always concerns regarding their sustainably and effectiveness.Theoretically development of an effective dengue vaccine is feasible and production of an effective and affordable vaccine could be a viable option to save humans from this dreadful disease. Conceptually vaccine production is possible, but it has to be tetravalent, providing immunity against all serotypes.Few candidate vaccines are in advance stage of their development:however international cooperation is needed to make these vaccines available on cheaper rates to the poor and vulnerable countries. Objective of this review is to discuss various aspects related to dengue, its epidemiology, available preventive methods, need for vaccine and challenges in its development. | Kuldeep Kumar Pankaj Kumar Singh Juhi Tomar Swati Baijal | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,12: | 2 |
| 4 | Effect of potassium on soil conservation and productivity of maize/cowpea based crop rotations in the north-west Indian Himalayas显示文摘Plots under conservation tillage may require higher amount of potassium(K) application for augmenting productivity due to its stratification in upper soil layers, thereby reducing K supplying capacity in a medium or long-term period. To test this hypothesis, a field experiment was performed in 2002-2003 and 2006-2007 to study the effect of K and several crop rotations on yield, water productivity, carbon sequestration, grain quality, soil K status and economic benefits derived in maize(Zea mays L)/cowpea(Vigna sinensis L.) based cropping system under minimum tillage(MT). All crops recorded higher grain yield with a higher dose of K(120 kg K2 O ha-1) than recommended K(40 kg K2 O ha-1). The five years' average yield data showed that higher K application(120 kg K2 O ha-1) produced 16.4%(P<0.05)more maize equivalent yield. Cowpea based rotation yielded 14.2%(P<0.05) higher production than maize based rotation. The maximum enhancement was found in cowpea-mustard rotation. Relationship between yield and sustainable indices revealed that only agronomic efficiency of fertilizer input was significantly correlated with yield. Similarly, higherdoses of K application not only increased the water use efficiency(WUE) of all crops, but also reduced runoff and soil loss by 16.5% and 15.8% under maize and 23.3% and 19.7% under cowpea cover, respectively. This study also revealed that on an average 16.5% of left over carbon input contributed to soil organic carbon(SOC). Here, cowpea based rotation with the higher K application increased carbon sequestration in soil. Potassium fertilization also significantly improved the nutritional value of harvested grain by increasing the protein content for maize(by 9.5%) and cowpea(by 10.6%). The oil content in mustard increased by 5.0% and 6.0% after maize and cowpea, respectively. Net return also increased with the application of the higher K than recommended K and the trend was similar to yield. Hence, the present study demonstrated the potential yield and profit gains along with resource conservation in the Indian Himalayas due to annual additions of higher amount of K than the recommended dose. The impact of high K application was maximum in the cowpea-mustard rotation. | Birendra Nath GHOSH Om Pal Singh KHOLA Ranjan BHATTACHARYYA Kuldeep Singh DADHWAL Prasant Kumar MISHRA | 2016 | Journal of Mountain Science2016,13,4: | 2 |
