8Burning magnesium in carbon dioxide for highly effective phosphate removal显示文摘Magnesium oxide was found to have high-phosphate-affinity as an effective component to enhance the phosphate removal ability of common adsorbent materials.However,the currently prepared MgO-based hybrid adsorbents by conventional methods still suffer from the limited low loading of MgO and inferior removal performances,much far away from practical application.In this study,an ingenious carbon coated MgO nanocomposite is designed by directly burning magnesium in CO_(2),a well-known textbook reaction.X-ray diffraction analysis,scanning electron microscope and aberration-corrected high-resolution transmission electron microscope demonstrate the sample is well prepared.Consequently,the high content of nanosized MgO combined with defect-rich carbon layer brings unprecedented phosphate removal capacity of 1135.0 mg/g,removal rate of 99% and benign compatibility with coexisting anions and solution pH.Furthermore,the removal mechanism is also investigated in detail by characterizing the sample before and after adsorption.Ying Yao Lei Yu Meiling Wang Alvin Dai Yan Zhang Qiubo Guo Yulin Lin JianguoWen Feng Wu Xiulei Ji Jun Lu 2021Carbon Energy2021,3,2:0
9Brain circuits for retching-like behavior显示文摘Nausea and vomiting are important defensive responses to cope with pathogens and toxins that invade the body.The nucleus of the solitary tract(NTS)is important for initiating these responses.However,the molecular heterogeneities and cellular diversities of the NTS occlude a better understanding of these defensive responses.Here,we constructed the single-nucleus transcriptomic atlas of NTS cells and found multiple populations of NTS neurons that may be involved in these defensive responses.Among these,we identified Calbindin1-positive(Calb1^(+))NTS neurons that are molecularly distinct from Tac1^(+)neurons.These Calb1^(+)neurons are critical for nausea and retching induced by cereulide;an emetic toxin secreted by Bacillus Cereus.Strikingly,we found that cereulide can directly modulate vagal sensory neurons that innervate Calb1^(+)NTS neurons,a novel mechanism distinct from that for nausea and retching induced by Staphylococcal enterotoxin A.Together,our transcriptomic atlas of NTS neurons and the functional analyses revealed the neural mechanism for cereulide-induced retching-like behavior.These results demonstrate the molecular and cellular complexities in the brain that underlie defensive responses to the diversities of pathogens and toxins.Lifang Huo Zhimin Ye Meiling Liu Ziqing He Meizhu Huang Dapeng Li Qian Wu Qian Wang Xiaoqun Wang Peng Cao Ji Dong Congping Shang 2024National Science Review2024,11,1:0
10A petunia transcription factor, PhOBF1, regulates flower senescence by modulating gibberellin biosynthesis显示文摘Flower senescence is commonly enhanced by the endogenous hormone ethylene and suppressed by the gibberellins(GAs)in plants.However,the detailed mechanisms for the antagonism of these hormones during f lower senescence remain elusive.In this study,we characterized one up-regulated gene PhOBF1,belonging to the basic leucine zipper transcription factor family,in senescing petals of petunia(Petunia hybrida).Exogenous treatments with ethylene and GA3 provoked a dramatic increase in PhOBF1 transcripts.Compared with wild-type plants,PhOBF1-RNAi transgenic petunia plants exhibited shortened f lower longevity,while overexpression of PhOBF1 resulted in delayed flower senescence.Transcript abundances of two senescence-related genes PhSAG12 and PhSAG29 were higher in PhOBF1-silenced plants but lower in PhOBF1-overexpressing plants.Silencing and overexpression of PhOBF1 affected expression levels of a few genes involved in the GA biosynthesis and signaling pathways,as well as accumulation levels of bioactive GAs GA1 and GA3.Application of GA3 restored the accelerated petal senescence to normal levels in PhOBF1-RNAi transgenic petunia lines,and reduced ethylene release and transcription of three ethylene biosynthetic genes PhACO1,PhACS1,and PhACS2.Moreover,PhOBF1 was observed to specifically bind to the PhGA20ox3 promoter containing a G-box motif.Transient silencing of PhGA20ox3 in petunia plants through tobacco rattle virus-based virus-induced gene silencing method led to accelerated corolla senescence.Our results suggest that PhOBF1 functions as a negative regulator of ethylene-mediated f lower senescence by modulating the GA production.Xiaotong Ji Ziwei Xin Yanping Yuan Meiling Wang Xinyi Lu Jiaqi Li Yanlong Zhang Lixin Niu Cai-Zhong Jiang Daoyang Sun 2023Horticulture Research2023,10,4:0

Severe jaundice can cause neonatal bilirubin encephalopathy. Clinically because severe hyperbilirubinemia more causes, the cause of hemolysis and infection is more common, this also accounted for a certain proportion of unknown reasons. UGT1A1 is a key enzyme for bilirubin metabolism, and unexplained jaundice is associated with a decrease in UGT1A1 activity caused by mutations in UGT1A1 gene, leading to neonatal persistent jaundice. 12Effect of hydrogen impurities on hydrogen oxidation activity of Pt/C catalyst in proton exchange membrane fuel cells显示文摘High-purity of hydrogen is vital to the guarantee of end usage in proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC)electric vehicles(EVs)with superior durability and low expense.However,the currently employed hydrogen,primarily from fossil fuel,still contains some poisoning impurities that significantly affect the durability of PEMFCs.Here,we investigate the poisoning effect of several typical hydrogen impurities(S^(2-),Cl^(-),HCOO^(-)and CO_(3)^(2-))on the hydrogen oxidation reaction(HOR)of the state-of-the-art carbon-supported platinum(Pt/C)catalyst used in the PEMFC anode.Electrochemical results indicate that the electrochemically active surface area of Pt/C is hampered by these hydrogen impurities with reduced effective Pt reactive sites due to the competitive adsorption against hydrogen at Pt sites showing the extent of the poisoning on Pt sites in the order:S^(2-)>Cl^(-)>HCOO^(-)>CO_(3)^(2-).Density functional theory calculations reveal that the adsorption energy of S2-on Pt(111)is greater than that of Cl^(-),HCOO^(-)and CO_(2),and the electronic structure of Pt is found to be changed due to the adsorption of impurities showing the downshift of the d-band centre of Pt that weakens the adsorption of hydrogen on the Pt sites.This work provides valuable guidance for future optimization of hydrogen quality and also emphasizes the importance of anti-poisoning anode catalyst development,especially towards H_(2)S impurities that seriously affect the durability of PEMFCs.Yufeng Qin Chaoyong Sun Shaojie Ke Rou Wen Yifan Wang Jing Ji Meiling Dou 2023Clean Energy2023,7,1:0
13Elevated Atmospheric CO_(2)Reduced Antibiotics Accumulation in Rice Grains and Soil ARGs Abundance in Multiple Antibiotics-contaminated Paddy Fields显示文摘Antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)as new pollutants have become a global environmental pollution problem in recent years.Elevated atmospheric CO_(2) is one of the major factors affecting global climate change.But,the impacts of elevated CO_(2) on soil ARGs in multiple antibiotics-contaminated paddy soils are largely unknown.In this study,six antibiotics including sulfadiazine(SDZ),sulfamethoxazole(SMZ),tetracycline(TC),oxytetracycline(OTC),enrofloxacin(ENR),and ciprofloxacin(CIP)were selected to investigate their combined effects on rice biomass,antibiotics accumulation,soil bacterial community and ARGs under elevated CO_(2) levels.Results showed that elevated CO_(2) significantly reduced the accumulation of SMZ,OTC,ENR,and CIP in rice grains by 18.98%,20.07%,41.73%,and 44.25%,respectively.Elevated CO_(2) could affect soil microbialβ-diversity,and tend to reduce the microbial functions of human diseases,organismal systems,and genetic information processing.In addition,elevated CO_(2) significantly decreased the abundance of sulfonamide ARGs,tetracycline ARGs,and quinolone ARGs by 19.59%,18.58%,and 28.96%,respectively,while increased that of multidrug ARGs by 11.54%.Overall,this study emphasized that elevated CO_(2) may mitigate the threat of antibiotics contamination to rice food security but aggravate the environmental risk of multidrug ARGs in soil,contributing to a better understanding of the consequences of elevated CO_(2) levels on food security and soil ecological health in multiple antibiotics-contaminated paddy fields.WANG Yabo XU Meiling WANG Xiaojie AI Fuxun DU Wenchao YIN Ying JI Rong GUO Hongyan 2023Chemical Research in Chinese Universities2023,39,3:0
14Massive bleeding in small intestinal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma associated with COVID-19 infection:a case report显示文摘The increased risk of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT)lymphoma is closely associated with chronic antigenic stimulation,with infection being the most common cause of recurrence.Lesions are usually associated with the gastrointestinal tract,and the involvement of small intestinal is rare.Recent studies have established a close relationship between novel coronavirus 2019(COVID-19)and the occurrence and progression of various diseases.This article presents a rare case of a small intestinal MALT lymphoma.The patient was initially admitted with COVID-19 pneumonia and subsequently developed gastrointestinal bleeding during hospitalization.Medical and endoscopic treatments were ineffective,and an emergency exploratory laparotomy was performed.The affected segment of the small intestine was excised,and a pathological biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of MALT lymphoma.This case underscores the significance of raising clinical awareness of this condition among health care professionals.Meiling Huang Xiaowei Wu Ji Wang 2024Oncology and Translational Medicine2024,10,2:0
