1Antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxic potential of condensed tannins from Leucaena leucocephala hybrid-Rendang显示文摘Condensed tannins(CTs)are one of the promising compounds due to their potentially health-promoting qualities.In this study,CTs were extracted from a Leucaena leucocephala hybrid-Rendang and subjected to various biological studies including antioxidant(using Ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP),DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assay),anti-microbial(against different pathogens)and cytotoxic activities(toward human breast adenocarcinoma(MCF-7),human colon carcinoma(HT29),human cervical carcinoma(HeLa)and human liver carcinoma(HepG2)cell lines)in cancer cells through in vitro experiments.The structural characteristics and purity of CTs extract were determined using 13C NMR.The results showed that CTs exhibited higher in vitro antioxidant activities(2257.12±80.55 mg TEAC/g extract,605.3±1.82 mg TEAC/g extract and 1014.03±1.20 mg TEAC/g extract in FRAP,ABTS and DPPH assay,respectively)and demonstrated anti-microbial activities toward selected Gram’s positive and Gram’s negative bacteria tested with MIC and MBC value at 6.25–50 mg/mL.Furthermore,among other selected cancer cells,CTs also demonstrated cytotoxic activity toward human breast cancer cells(MCF-7)(IC50=38.33±2.08mg/mL).Characteristic of apoptosis such as cell shrinkage,nuclear condensation and apoptotic bodies were shown in MCF-7.These preliminary investigations have provided scientific rationale to use CTs as an alternative therapy for various oxidative and inflammatory associated diseases.©2016 Beijing Academy of Food Sciences.Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V.All rights reserved.Mazni Abu Zarin Ho Yin Wan Azizul Isha Nurdin Armania 2016Food Science and Human Wellness2016,5,2:9
2Anti-viral role of toll like receptor 4 in hepatitis B virus infection: An in vitro study显示文摘AIM Toll like receptors plays a significant anti-viral role in different infections. The aim of this study was to look into the role of toll like receptor 4(TLR4) in hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection.METHODS Real time PCR was used to analyze the transcription of TLR4 signaling molecules, cell cycle regulators and HBV DNA viral load after triggering the Hep G2.2.15 cells with TLR4 specific ligand. Nuclear factor(NF)-κB translocation on TLR4 activation was analyzed using microscopic techniques. Protein and cell cycle analysis was done using Western Blot and FACS respectively.RESULTS The present study shows that TLR4 activation represses HBV infection. As a result of HBV suppression, there are several changes in host factors which include partial release in G1/S cell cycle arrest and changes in host epigenetic marks. 4FEM based Electromagnetic Signature Analysis of Winding Inter-turn Short-Circuit Fault in Inverter fed Induction Motor显示文摘The intent of this paper is to analyze the electromagnetic signature of stator winding inter-turn short-circuit fault in a closed loop speed controlled Induction Motor(IM)employing Finite Element Method.Stator winding short-circuit nearly covers 21%of faults in IM.Diagnosing the inter-turn fault at an incipient stage is one of the challenging task in the area of fault detection of IM to prevent crucial damages in industrial applications.Also detecting the faults in inverter fed IM under variable speed applications under varying load is one of the major issues in industrial drives.As the signatures of electromagnetic field contains the entire data in association with the location of rotor,stator and mechanical parts of the motor,a regular monitoring of fields in the airgap can be used to diagnose the inter-turn fault in the stator winding of IM.In this direction,an IM is modeled with several inter-turn fault severities like 30 turns,15 turns,5 turns&1 turn short using ANSYS Maxwell FEA tool and coupled with ANSYS Simplorer for loading arrangements.The PWM inverter with closed loop speed controlled strategy is implemented in Matlab Simulink and co-simulated with ANSYS Simplorer to integrate all the components in one common simulation platform environment for accurate design&analysis for realistic simulation.Several electromagnetic variables like flux density,flux lines and airgap flux density distribution over the machine are analyzed.The spatial FFT spectrum of radial component of flux density in the airgap contains the information related to the diagnosis of inter-turn fault at the incipient stage.Praveen Kumar N Isha T B 2019CES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems2019,3,3:2
5Deep Learning Based Automated Detection of Diseases from Apple Leaf Images显示文摘In Agriculture Sciences, detection of diseases is one of the mostchallenging tasks. The mis-interpretations of plant diseases often lead towrong pesticide selection, resulting in damage of crops. Hence, the automaticrecognition of the diseases at earlier stages is important as well as economicalfor better quality and quantity of fruits. Computer aided detection (CAD)has proven as a supportive tool for disease detection and classification, thusallowing the identification of diseases and reducing the rate of degradationof fruit quality. In this research work, a model based on convolutional neuralnetwork with 19 convolutional layers has been proposed for effective andaccurate classification of Marsonina Coronaria and Apple Scab diseases fromapple leaves. For this, a database of 50,000 images has been acquired bycollecting images of leaves from apple farms of Himachal Pradesh (H.P)and Uttarakhand (India). An augmentation technique has been performedon the dataset to increase the number of images for increasing the accuracy.The performance analysis of the proposed model has been compared with thenew two Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models having 8 and 9 layersrespectively. The proposed model has also been compared with the standardmachine learning classifiers like support vector machine, k-Nearest Neighbour, Random Forest and Logistic Regression models. 6A model for virtual network embedding across multiple infrastructure providers using genetic algorithm显示文摘Network virtualization is an important aspect in cloud computing, where network is assumed to be consisting of infinite amount of nodes and links. The substrate network(physical network), has limited capacity and so virtual network embedding on the substrate network becomes a problem. Virtual network embedding is a computationally hard problem, considering various constraints on nodes and links. The proposed work applies Genetic Algorithm for the virtual network embedding problem for mapping multiple virtual network requests on infrastructure providers managing multiple substrate networks. 7Biomimetic mineralized hybrid scaffolds with antimicrobial peptides显示文摘Infection in hard tissue regeneration is a clinically-relevant challenge.Development of scaffolds with dual function for promoting bone/dental tissue growth and preventing bacterial infections is a critical need in the field.Here we fabricated hybrid scaffolds by intrafibrillar-mineralization of collagen using a biomimetic process and subsequently coating the scaffold with an antimicrobial designer peptide with cationic and amphipathic properties.The highly hydrophilic mineralized collagen scaffolds provided an ideal substrate to form a dense and stable coating of the antimicrobial peptides.The amount of hydroxyapatite in the mineralized fibers modulated the rheological behavior of the scaffolds with no influence on the amount of recruited peptides and the resulting increase in hydrophobicity.The developed scaffolds were potent by contact killing of Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Streptococcus gordonii as well as cytocompatible to human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells.The process of scaffold fabrication is versatile and can be used to control mineral load and/or intrafibrillar-mineralized scaffolds made of other biopolymers.Zhou Ye Xiao Zhu Isha Mutreja Sunil Kumar Bod Nicholas G.Fischer Anqi Zhang Christine Lui Yipin Qi Conrado Aparicio 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,8:2

9Role of decision aids in orthopaedic surgery显示文摘Medical treatment of patients inherently entails the risk of undesired complication or side effects. It is essential to inform the patient about the expected outcomes, but also the possible undesired outcomes. The patients preference and values regarding the potential outcomes should be involved in the decision making process. Even though many orthopaedic surgeons are positive towards shared decision-making, it is minimally introduced in the orthopaedic daily practice and decision-making is still mostly physician based. Decision aids are designed to support the physician and patient in the shareddecision-making process. By using decision aids, patients can learn more about their condition and treatment options in advance to the decision-making. 12Risk factors and strategies for prevention of depression, anxiety and eating disorders among adolescents during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic: a review显示文摘The purpose of this review is to identify prevalent trends and risk factors in depression,anxiety,and eating disorders in the adolescent population in the post coronavirus disease 2019(COvID-19)scenario.We examined the literature published on adolescent mental health since the COVID-19 pandemic.We chose to summarize studies published from 2019 to 2022,using bibliographic search tools.We developed criteria for selecting articles for our review using diagnostic indicators and keywords.Mental health conditions such as depression,anxiety and eating disorders are commonly prevalent in this population and have shown increasing rates in the past three years.Some risk factors associated with these diagnoses include reduction in social interaction,increased workloads,routine shifts,sleep quality,social media usage and parental involvement.Routines,sleep cycles,physical activity,and social media should all be considered as a part of prevention in this population.Approaches that seem to be successful include maintaining social ties and avoiding negative social media usage with harmful content.Increased global public awareness,as well as parental awareness,through media campaigns,is critical to slowing the spread of mental health challenges in adolescents and teenagers in the post-COvID-19 era.Rea Pillai Isha Patel Rajesh Balkrishnan 2023Global Health Journal2023,7,2:1
