| 1 | Catharanthus roseus:a natural source for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles显示文摘Objective:To develop a simple rapid procedure for bioreduction of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)using aqueous leaves extracts of Catharanthus roseus(C.roseus).Methods:Characterization were determined by using UV-Vis spectrophotometry,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray and X-ray diffraction.Results:SEM showed the formation of silver nanoparticles with an average size of 67 nm to 48 nm.X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the particles were crystalline in nature with face centered cubic geometry.Conclusions:C.roseus demonstrates strong potential for synthesis of silver nanoparticles by rapid reduction of silver ions(Ag^+ to Ag^0).This study provides evidence for developing large scale commercial production of value-added products for biomedical/nanotechnology-based industries. | Mukunthan KS Elumalai EK Trupti N Patel V Ramachandra Murty | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011，1，4： | 4 |
| 2 | Characteristics of landslide in Koshi River Basin,Central Himalaya显示文摘Koshi River basin, which lies in the Central Himalayas with an area of 71,500 km2, is an important trans-boundary river basin shared by China, Nepal and India. Yet, landslide-prone areas are all located in China and Nepal, imposing alarming risks of widespread damages to property and loss of human life in both countries. Against this backdrop, this research, by utilizing remote sensing images and topographic maps, has identified a total number of 6877 landslides for the past 23 years and further examined their distribution, characteristics and causes. Analysis shows that the two-step topography in the Himalayan region has a considerable effect on the distribution of landslides in this area. Dense distribution of landslides falls into two regions: the Lesser Himalaya(mostly small and medium size landslides in east-west direction) and the TransitionBelt(mostly large and medium size landslides along the river in north-south direction). Landslides decrease against the elevation while the southern slopes of the Himalayas have more landslides than its northern side. Change analysis was carried out by comparing landslide distribution data of 1992, 2010 and 2015 in the Koshi River basin. The rainfallinduced landslides, usually small and shallow and occurring more frequently in regions with an elevation lower than 1000 m, are common in the south and south-east slopes due to heavy precipitation in the region, and are more prone to the slope gradient of 20°~30°. Most of them are distributed in Proterozoic stratum(Pt3ε, Pt3 and Pt2-3) and Quaternary stratum. | 3 | Rare presentation of intralobar pulmonary sequestration associated with repeated episodes of ventricular tachycardia显示文摘Arterial supply of an intralobar pulmonary sequestration(IPS) from the coronary circulation is extremely rare. A significant coronary steal does not occur because of dual or triple sources of blood supply to sequestrated lung tissue. We present a 60-year-old woman who presented to us with repeated episodes of monomorphic ventricular tachycardia(VT) in last 3 mo. Radio frequency ablation was ineffective. On evaluation, she had right lower lobe IPS with dual arterial blood supply, i.e., right pulmonary artery and the systemic arterial supply from the right coronary artery(RCA). Stress myocardial perfusion scan revealed significant inducible ischemia in the RCA territory. Coronary angiogram revealed critical stenosis of proximal RCA just after the origin of the systemic artery supplying IPS. The critical stenosis in the RCA was stented. | 4 | Sleep, circadian dysrhythmia, obesity and diabetes显示文摘Synchrony of biological processes with environmental cues developed over millennia to match growth, reproduction and senescence. This entails a complex interplay of genetic, metabolic, chemical, light, hormonal andhedonistic factors across life forms. Sleep is one of the most prominent rhythms where such a match is established. Over the past 100 years or so, it has been possible to disturb the synchrony between sleep-wake cycle and environmental cues. Development of electric lights, shift work and continual accessibility of the internet has disrupted this match. As a result, many noncommunicable diseases such as obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease and malignancies have been attributed in part to such disruption.
