Spatio-temporal changes in biomass carbon sinks in China's forests from 1977 to 2008显示文摘Forests play a leading role in regional and global carbon (C) cycles. Detailed assessment of the temporal and spatial changes in C sinks/sources of China's forests is critical to the estimation of the national C budget and can help to constitute sustainable forest management policies for climate change. In this study, we explored the spatio-temporal changes in forest biomass C stocks in China between 1977 and 2008, using six periods of the national forest inventory data. According to the definition of the forest inventory, China's forest was categorized into three groups: forest stand, economic forest, and bamboo forest. We estimated forest biomass C stocks for each inventory period by using continuous biomass expansion factor (BEF) method for forest stands, and the mean biomass density method for economic and bamboo forests. As a result, China's forests have accumulated biomass C (i.e., biomass C sink) of 1896 Tg (1Tg=1012g) during the study period, with 1710, 108 and 78 Tg C in forest stands, and economic and bamboo forests, respectively. Annual forest biomass C sink was 70.2 Tg Ca-1 , offsetting 7.8% of the contemporary fossil CO2 emissions in the country. The results also showed that planted forests have functioned as a persistent C sink, sequestrating 818 Tg C and accounting for 47.8% of total C sink in forest stands, and that the old-, mid- and young-aged forests have sequestrated 930, 391 and 388 Tg C from 1977 to 2008. Our results suggest that China's forests have a big potential as biomass C sink in the future because of its large area of planted forests with young-aged growth and low C density.GUO ZhaoDi HU HuiFeng LI Pin LI NuYun FANG JingYun 2013Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,7:44

Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear. Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks. Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease, while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes.MA Yan ZHU Dong Shan CHEN Ren Bo SHI Nan Nan LIU Si Hong FAN Yi Pin WU Gui Hui YANG Pu Ye BAI Jiang Feng CHEN Hong CHEN Li Ying FENG Qiao GUO Tuan Mao HOU Yong HU Gui Fen HU Xiao Mei HU Yun Hong HUANG Jin HUANG Qiu Hua HUANG Shao Zhen JI Liang JIN Hai Hao LEI Xiao LI Chun Yan LI Min Qing LI Qun Tang LI Xian Yong LIU Hong De LIU Jin Ping LIU Zhang MA Yu Ting MAO Ya MO Liu Fen NA Hui WANG Jing Wei SONG Fang Li SUN Sheng WANG Dong Ting WANG Ming Xuan WANG Xiao Yan WANG Yin Zhen WANG Yu Dong WU Wei WU Lan Ping XIAO Yan Hua XIE Hai Jun XU Hong Ming XU Shou Fang XUE Rui Xia YANG Chun YANG Kai Jun YUAN Sheng Li ZHANG Gong Qi ZHANG Jin Bo ZHANG Lin Song ZHAO Shu Sen ZHAO Wan Ying ZHENG Kai ZHOU Ying Chun ZHU Jun Teng ZHU Tian Qing ZHANG Hua Min WANG Yan Ping WANG Yong Yan 2020Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,12:8
Trastuzumab plus adjuvant chemotherapy for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)-positive early-stage breast cancer: A real-world retrospective study in Chinese patients显示文摘Objective: To assess the long-term effectiveness and safety of trastuzumab in adjuvant therapy for Chinese patients with early-stage human epidermal growth factor 2(HER2)-positive breast cancer in a real-world setting. Methods: This retrospective observational study analyzed the medical records of HER2-positive breast cancer patients between 2000 and 2012 at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy alone or adjuvant chemotherapy followed by/combined with trastuzumab were included. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate disease-free survival(DFS) and overall survival(OS). Hazard ratios(HR) and 95% confidence intervals(95% CI) were calculated using the Cox regression model. Results: Of the 1,348 patients analyzed, 909 received chemotherapy alone and 439 received chemotherapy plus trastuzumab. The 3-year, 5-year and 10-year DFS rates were 83.70%, 76.38% and 68.94%, respectively, in the chemotherapy-alone cohort, and 90.21%, 86.19% and 83.45% in the chemotherapy plus trastuzumab cohort. The3-year, 5-year and 10-year OS rates were 96.10%, 91.40% and 81.88% in the chemotherapy-alone cohort, and98.17%, 94.91% and 90.01% in the chemotherapy plus trastuzumab cohort. The chemotherapy plus trastuzumab group had a significantly lower risk of disease recurrence and death than the chemotherapy-alone group(DFS:HR=0.50, 95% CI, 0.37-0.68;P<0.001;OS: HR=0.53, 95% CI, 0.34-0.81;P=0.004) after adjusting for covariates. In the 439 patients treated with trastuzumab, multivariate analysis suggested that lymph node positivity, higher T stages, and hormone receptor-negative status were significantly associated with higher risks of disease recurrence, and lymph node positivity and hormone receptor-negative status were significantly associated with higher risks of death. Grade 3/4 adverse events(incidence ≥1%) were more common in patients receiving trastuzumab(54.44% vs.15.73%).Conclusions: Early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer patients treated with trastuzumab plus adjuvant chemotherapy have a significant survival benefit compared with chemotherapy-alone in real-world settings. Lymph node positivity, hormone receptor-negative status, and higher T stages may be associated with higher risks of recurrence, and effective therapy for patients with these factors is required.Jihong Guo Qing Li Pin Zhang Peng Yuan Jiayu Wang Fei Ma Ying Fan Ruigang Cai Yang Luo Qiao Li Binghe Xu 2019Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2019,31,5:6

Antrodia cinnamomea exerts an anti-hepatoma effect by targeting PI3K/AKT-mediated cell cycle progression in vitro and in vivo显示文摘Antrodia cinnamomea is extensively used as a traditional medicine to prevention and treatment of liver cancer. However, its comprehensive chemical fingerprint is uncertain, and the mechanisms, especially the potential therapeutic target for anti-hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)are still unclear.Using UPLC-Q-TOF/MS,139 chemical components were identified in A.cinnamomea dropping pills(ACDPs).Based on these chemical components, network pharmacology demonstrated that the targets of active components were significantly enriched in the pathways in cancer, which were closely related with cell proliferation regulation.Next,HCC data was downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus database(GEO).The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)and Dis Ge NET were analyzed by bioinformatics, and 79 biomarkers were obtained.Furtherly, nine targets of ACDP active components were revealed, and they were significantly enriched in PI3 K/AKT and cell cycle signaling pathways. The affinity between these targets and their corresponding active ingredients was predicted by molecular docking. Finally,in vivo and in vitro experiments showed that ACDPs could reduce the activity of PI3 K/AKT signaling pathway and downregulate the expression of cell cycle-related proteins, contributing to the decreased growth of liver cancer.Altogether,PI3 K/AKT-cell cycle appears as the significant central node in anti-liver cancer of A.Cinnamomea.Yan Zhang Pin Lv Junmei Ma Ning Chen Huishan Guo Yan Chen Xiaoruo Gan Rong Wang Xuqiang Liu Sufang Fan Bin Cong Wenyi Kang 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,2:2

Influencing factors on the preservation of lytic bacteriophage VP3显示文摘Long-term and stable preservation of bacteriophages is of crucial importance.Although many efforts have been made in the past decades to explore the influence of external factors on bacteriophage preservation, there is still little understanding, and a systematic description is lacking. In this study,we explored the influence of different factors on the preservation of lytic bacteriophage VP3,one of the typing bacteriophages of Vibrio cholerae O1 biotype El Tor,and attempted to optimize its preservation. We examined external factors, including temperature, solution, and cryoprotectant,in stable cooling/freezing conditions or alternate cooling/freezing and thawing. We found that whether in Luria-Bertani(LB)medium or SM buffer,in terms of 20-week stable cooling or freezing,−20℃ was the most damaging while 4℃,−80℃,and−196℃ were protective.Thirteen cycles of alternate cooling/freezing and thawing caused a loss in the survival rates of bacteriophages. The addition of cryoprotectant,glycerol(30%,w/v)or dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO,10%,w/v)significantly improved the survival rates of bacteriophages preserved at−20℃.However,at 4℃,−80℃,and−196℃,the cryoprotectant effect was only slightly positive or even harmful. In summary, for bacteriophage VP3,the best preservation method is to directly preserve the bacteriophage stocks in LB medium at−80℃ or−196℃ instead of storing them in SM buffer or adding cryoprotectant. Our results provided insights into the external influencing factors on bacteriophage VP3 during preservation at low temperature and can be applied to the optimization of bacteriophage preservation in the future.Yue Xiao Pin Huang Zhenzhou Huang Keyi Yu Yang Song Ning Guo Hang Dai Mengnan Jiang Yi Xu Duochun Wang Qiang Wei 2022Biosafety and Health2022,4,5:2
Social insights on the implementation of One Health in zoonosis prevention and control: a scoping review显示文摘Background:The One Health (OH) concept has been promoted widely around the globe. OH framework is expected to be applied as an integrated approach to support addressing zoonotic diseases as a significant global health issue and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of zoonosis prevention and control. This review is intended to overview the social impact of the implementation of OH on zoonosis prevention and control. Methods:A scoping review of studies in the past 10 years was performed to overview the integration feature of OH in zoonosis prevention and control and the social impacts of OH. PubMed and Web of Science were searched for studies published in English between January 2011 and June 2021. The included studies were selected based on predefined criteria.Results:Thirty-two studies were included in this review, and most of them adopted qualitative and semi-qualitative methods. More than 50% of the studies focused on zoonosis prevention and control. Most studies were conducted in low- and middle-income countries in Africa and Asia. Applying OH approach in diseases control integrates policymakers, stakeholders, and academics from various backgrounds. The impact of OH on economic is estimated that it may alleviate the burden of diseases and poverty in the long term, even though more financial support might be needed at the initial stage of OH implementation. OH implementation considers social and ecological factors related to zoonosis transmission and provides comprehensive strategies to assess and address related risks in different communities according to regions and customs. Conclusions:Based on reviewed literature, although there seems to be a lack of guidelines for assessing and visualizing the outcomes of OH implementation, which may limit the large-scale adoption of it, evidence on the contributions of implementing OH concepts on zoonosis prevention and control indicates long-term benefits to society, including a better integration of politics, stakeholders and academics to improve their cooperation, a potential to address economic issues caused by zoonosis, and a comprehensive consideration on social determinants of health during zoonosis prevention and control.Junyi He Zhaoyu Guo Pin Yang Chunli Cao Jing Xu Xiaonong Zhou Shizhu Li 2022Infectious Diseases of Poverty2022,11,3:1

Structural Deleveraging: Evidence from China显示文摘Using province-level data in China for the period of 1999-2015,we examine the mechanisms through which sectoral differences in leverage ratio and productivity affect macro leverage ratios. The state-owned sector undertakes a large number of public services and plays an irreplaceable role in solving market failures and providing public goods. However,in the case of information asymmetry and incentive incompatibility, these policy burdens affect the leverage optimization and productivity improvement of the state-owned sector. From the perspective of sectoral differences,we therefore decompose the change in macro leverage ratio into leverage ratio structure effect and productivity structure effect, and then substantiate the impact mechanisms of these two effects on macro leverage ratios.Overall, our conclusions provide theoretical support and empirical evidence for structural deleveraging in China.Caoyuan Ma Pin Guo Zhao Zhang 2022China & World Economy2022,30,6:1
