| 1 | Does Helicobacter pylori infection play a role in iron deficiency anemia? | 4 | Influence of high-fluorine environmental background on crops and human health in hot spring-type fluorosis-diseased areas显示文摘Drinking water-type fluorosis is the most harmful endemic disease in China with the largest number of sufferers. Although the implementation of the policy to alter water sources to lower fluoride level has effectively controlled the spread of this kind of endemic disease,its prevalence could not thoroughly be stopped because the high-fluoride environmental background in these endemically diseased areas could still do harm to human health through food chain. Therefore,it is necessary to conduct a more deep-going study on the drinking water-type fluoro-sis. To investigate the effect of high fluorine environmental background on crops and human health in the hot spring-type fluorosis-diseased areas,local water,paddy soil,rice,whole vegetables and soils around their roots were sampled for analysis. The results were compared with those of the control groups in fluorosis-free areas which are similar to the fluorosis-diseased areas both in natural background and in social background. It is indicated that rice and vegetables can accumulate water-soluble fluorine either in soils or in irrigating water,and different crops have different abilities of fixing fluorine. The contents of fluorine in different parts of vegetables in the fluorosis-diseased and fluorosis-free areas were statistically categorized. The results showed that the fluorine contents of roots,tubers,leaves and flowers of vegetables in the fluorosis-diseased areas are 3.56,1.17,3.07 and 3.23 mg/kg,respectively. However,comparisons showed that in the fluorosis-free areas,the fluorine contents are 2.17,0.70,1.91 and 2.52 mg/kg,respectively. Moreover,different parts of a crop also show significantly different fluorine fixation abilities. It is demonstrated that the fluorine contents of the strongly metabolic parts are relatively high. For example,the fluo-rine contents of roots,leaves and flowers of vegetables are much higher than those of stems. The fluorine fixation ability of seeds is very weak. In order to reduce the risk of human body’s exposure to fluoride,the impact of hot spring water on the capability of crops to fix fluorine should be reduced as much as possible. | 7 | Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. | 9 | Validity of the Chinese Version of the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) in Lung Cancer Patients显示文摘The prevalence of malnutrition is high among oncology patients in China. Although the Patient- Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) is widely recognized as an important nutritional assessment tool, it has not been validated for Chinese cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to conduct an analysis of nutrition screening and assessment data to validate the Chinese version of the PG-SGA in Chinese patients with lung cancer. This was an observational, cross-sectional study of 2,000 consecutive adult patients with lung cancer treated at several tertiary hospitals in China. Anthropometric and patient descriptive data were collected. The PG-SGA generated a score for the nutritional risk and a global rating for the nutritional status. The internal consistency, external consistency, and construct validity were evaluated, and a known-groups comparison and principal component analyses were conducted to evaluate the reliability and validity of the PG-SGA. The known-groups comparison demonstrated the ability of the PG-SGA to differentiate lung cancer patients of different nutritional and body mass index (BMI) groups. A confirmatory factor analysis supported the original four-factor structure of the PG-SGA. In terms of the internal and external consistency, the PG-SGA demonstrated intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) up to 0.987. Alternative form validity was also demonstrated between Box 4 of the PG-SGA and the Karnofsky Performance Status score, with excellent external consistency (r = 0.972, P < 0.001). The construct validity was supported, and selected questionnaire dimensions were evident in the principal component analysis. Significant Spearman correlations (P < 0.001) were demonstrated. The Chinese version of the PG-SGA demonstrated significant reliability and sufficient exploratory properties to support its validity. It seems to be a valid tool that can be used to access the nutritional status of Chinese lung cancer patients. We calculated the parameters to validate the use of PG-SGA categorizing the nutritional status of gastric cancer patients. Then we performed statistical analysis to evaluate the internal consistency, external consistency, and construct validity. Results This study verified the ability of the PG-SGA to differentiate gastric cancer patients into different nutritional groups. The confirmatory factor analysis verified the original four-factor structure of the PG-SGA. The internal and external consistency was measured by a concordance analysis which showed an intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) of 0.987. The correlations of the Box 4 score with the Karnofsky performance status score demonstrated alternative form validity with good external consistency (Pearson, r = 0.643, P < 0.001). All three anthropometric dimensions of the PG-SGA were supported by principal component analysis. Spearman correlations (P < 0.001) were significant in the majority of tests. Hyoscyami Semen is found in local markets in China. In markets, sellers and buyers commonly inadvertently mix the seeds of H. niger with the seeds of related species such as Hygrophila salicifolia(Vahl) Nees, Astragalus complanatus R. Br., Cuscuta australis R. Br., Cuscuta chinensis Lam., and Impatiens balsamina L. because of their similar morphologies or similar names. Thus, developing a reliable method for discriminating H. niger seeds from its adulterants is necessary to reduce confusion and ensure the safe use of Hyoscyami Semen. The present study was designed to evaluate the efficiency of high-resolution melting analysis combined with DNA barcoding(Bar-HRM) with internal transcribed spacer 2 to discriminate H. niger. Our results show that Bar-HRM successfully identified the adulterants and detected the proportion of H. niger DNA extract within an admixture. In particular, HRM detected H. niger DNA extract in A. complanatus DNA extract at concentrations as low as 1%. In conclusion, the Bar-HRM method developed in the present study for authenticating H. niger is rapid and cost-effective. In this work, we report the massive preparation of coumarone-indene resin-based hyper-crosslinked polymers via one-step Friedel-Crafts alkylation. Low-cost coumarone-indene resin serves as the new building block and chloroform is employed as both solvent and external crosslinker. A maximum surface area of 966 m^2·g^(-1) is achieved, which is comparable with that of previously-reported coal tar-based porous organic polymers. Most importantly, a large number of heteroatoms including inherent oxygen atoms and introduced chlorine atoms in obtianed HCPs further enhance the interaction between specific sorbate molecule and adsorbent. Therefore, optimal structural and chemical property endow the new coumarone-indene resin-based HCPs with decent gas storage capacity(14.60 wt% at273 K and 0.1 MPa for CO_2; 1.18 wt% at 77.3 K and 0.1 MPa for H_2). | 19 | Multi-parameter ultrasound based on the logistic regression model in the differential diagnosis of hepatocellular adenoma and focal nodular hyperplasia显示文摘BACKGROUND Focal nodular hyperplasia(FNH)has very low potential risk,and a tendency to spontaneously resolve.Hepatocellular adenoma(HCA)has a certain malignant tendency,and its prognosis is significantly different from FNH.Accurate identification of HCA and FNH is critical for clinical treatment.AIM To analyze the value of multi-parameter ultrasound index based on logistic regression for the differential diagnosis of HCA and FNH.METHODS Thirty-one patients with HCA were included in the HCA group.Fifty patients with FNH were included in the FNH group.The clinical data were collected and recorded in the two groups.Conventional ultrasound,shear wave elastography,and contrast-enhanced ultrasound were performed,and the lesion location,lesion echo,Young’s modulus(YM)value,YM ratio,and changes of time intense curve(TIC)were recorded.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to screen the indicators that can be used for the differential diagnosis of HCA and FNH.A ROC curve was established for the potential indicators to analyze the accuracy of the differential diagnosis of HCA and FNH.The value of the combined indicators for distinguishing HCA and FNH were explored.RESULTS Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that lesion echo(P=0.000),YM value(P=0.000)and TIC decreasing slope(P=0.000)were the potential indicators identifying HCA and FNH.In the ROC curve analysis,the accuracy of the YM value distinguishing HCA and FNH was the highest(AUC=0.891),which was significantly higher than the AUC of the lesion echo and the TIC decreasing slope(P<0.05).The accuracy of the combined diagnosis was the highest(AUC=0.938),which was significantly higher than the AUC of the indicators diagnosing HCA individually(P<0.05).This sensitivity was 91.23%,and the specificity was 83.33%.CONCLUSION The combination of lesion echo,YM value and TIC decreasing slope can accurately differentiate between HCA and FNH. | Meng Wu Ru-Hai Zhou Feng Xu Xian-Peng Li Ping Zhao Rui Yuan Yu-Peng Lan Wei-Xia Zhou | 2019 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2019,11,12: | 2 |
