1Interleukin-18 polymorphism as an inflammatory index in metabolic syndrome: A preliminary study显示文摘AIM To assess circulatory levels of interleukin-18(IL-18) and determine whether the presence of IL-18 promoter polymorphism influences metabolic syndrome phenotypes. METHODS This study recruited one hundred and eighty individuals divided into three groups with sixty subjects each as: Normal weight(18.0-22.9 kg/m^2), overweight(23.0-25.9 kg/m^2) and obese(> 26.0 kg/m^2) according to South Asian criteria of BMI. Fasting blood glucose(FBG), Lipid profile, insulin, IL-18 and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)α were measured using ELISA kits, whereas low density lipoprotein(LDL)-cholesterol, insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) and insulin sensitivity(QUICKI) were calculated. The body fat percentage(BF) was measured through bioelectrical impedance analysis; waist and hip circumference were measured. Genotyping of IL-18-607 C/A polymorphism was performed by using tetraprimer amplification refractory mutation system. Student t test, One-way analysis of variance, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, Pearson's χ~2 test and Pearson's correlation were used, where a P value < 0.05 was considered significant.RESULTS In an aged matched study, obese subjects showed higher levels of FBG, cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL levels as compared to normal weight(P < 0.001).Highest levels of IL-18 and TNF levels were also seen in obese subjects(IL-18: 58.87 ± 8.59 ng/L)(TNF: 4581.93 ± 2132.05 pg/m L). The percentage of IL-18-607 A/A polymorphism was higher in overweight and obese subjects vs normal weight subjects(P < 0.001). Moreover, subjects with AA genotype had a higher BF, insulin resistance, TNFα and IL-18 levels when compared with subjects with AC(heterozygous) or CC(wild type) genotypes. However, we did not find any difference in the lipid profile between three subgroups. CONCLUSION This preliminary data suggests that IL-18 polymorphism affects IL-18 levels that might cause low grade inflammation, further exacerbated by increased TNFα. All these increase the susceptibility to develop Met S. 4In vitro antimicrobial and synergistic effect of essential oil from the red macroalgae Centroceras clavulatum (C. Agardh) Montagne with conventional antibiotics显示文摘Objective:To study the chemical profile,antimicrobial properties,and synergistic effect with known antibiotics of essential oil extracted from the marine red macroalgae Centroceras clavulatum(C.Agardh)Montagne,collected in Morocco.Methods:The chemical composition of the oil was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.The oil was evaluated for antibacterial(Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Escherichia coli,Bacillus subtilis,Micrococcus luteus,Staphylococcus aureus,and Klebsiella pneumoniae),and antifungal activity(Candida albicans,Candida glabrata,Candida krusei,and Candida parapsilosis),by the disc diffusion method.The minimum inhibitory and minimum microbicidal concentrations of the oil were determined,as well as the synergistic effects of its application combined with the antibiotics ciprofloxacin and fluconazole,by the checkerboard method.Results:Thirty molecules were identified in the essential oil,comprising 96.27%of the total oil composition.Monoterpenes such as carvacrol(36.06%)were the most abundant compounds,followed by caryophyllene(14.67%),endo-borneol(9.04%),pyroterebic acid(3.23%)and caryophyllene oxide(3.13%).The oil exhibited a moderate antimicrobial activity with inhibition zone diameters ranging from 9.0 to 15.0 mm.The minimum inhibitory concentration values varied between 0.9 and 14.7 mg/mL,and Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli were the more sensitive bacteria with 0.9 and 1.9 mg/mL,respectively.The minimum microbicidal concentration values ranged from 0.4 to 14.7 mg/mL.A significant synergic action was observed when the oil was applied in combination with ciprofloxacin and fluconazole,with fractional inhibitory concentration index values ranging from 0.31 to 0.50.Synergy was found in 80%of the combinations and a 2 to 16-fold reduction of antibiotics MIC was observed.Conclusions:Our findings suggest that the essential oil of Centroceras clavulatum should be further appraised for its potential use in the management of multi-drug resistant microorganisms,with the purpose to restore the activity of standard antimicrobial drugs.Ahmed Nafis Fatima El Khalloufi Asmae Aknaf Brahim Oudra Najat Marraiki Sarah Al-Rashed Abdallah MElgorban Asad Syed Lahcen Hassani Luísa Custódio 2021Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2021,11,9:0

6Determination of the feasible setup parameters of a workpiece to maximize the utilization of a five-axis milling machine显示文摘The machining industry must maximize the machine tool utilization for its efficient and effective usage. Determining a feasible workpiece location is one of the significant tasks performed in an iterative way via machining simulations. The maximum utilization of five-axis machine tools depends upon the cutting system’s geometry, the configuration of the machine tool, and the workpiece’s location. In this research, a mathematical model has been developed to determine the workpiece’s feasible location in the five-axis machine tool for avoiding the number of iterations, which are usually performed to eliminate the global collision and axis limit errors. In this research, a generic arrangement of the five-axis machine tool has been selected. The mathematical model of post-processor has been developed by using kinematic modeling methods. The machine tool envelopes have been determined using the post-processor and axial limit. The tooltip reachable workspace is determined by incorporating the post-processor, optimal cutting system length, and machining envelope, thereby further developing an algorithm to determine the feasible workpiece setup parameters accurately. The algorithm’s application has been demonstrated using an example. Finally, the algorithm is validated for feasible workpiece setup parameters in a virtual environment. 8Dramatic changes in anatomical traits of a C4 grass Chrysopogon serrulatus Trin.(Poaceae)over a 1000 m elevational gradient显示文摘Chrysopogon serrulatus(false beard-grass)is a dominant component of vegetation in the foothills of the Himalayas.To study whole plant morphology,individuals of C.serrulatus were collected from three plots at each of six locations spanning from 400 to 1,400 m.The population colonizing the highest elevation modifications in different plant organs.Roots showed increased metaxylem number and area.In the stem,especially outside of the vascular tissue,there was intensive sclerification indicative of increased xeromorphy as a survival strategy.At the highest elevation,leaves were wider;aerenchyma formation and increased sclerification were noted in the leaf sheath;and a greater proportion of storage parenchyma was observed in the leaf blade,all indicators of succulence.In contrast,leaves at lower elevations had xeric morphological features such as increased epidermal thickness,sclerification and more developed metaxylem area.In conclusion,shifting of morphological features in below-and above-ground plant parts of C.serrulatus were linked to shifts in environmental factors along this elevation gradient,thus enabling the successful distribution of this species along this elevation gradient.FATIMA Sana HAMEED Mansoor AHMAD Farooq AHMAD Muhammad Sajid Aqeel ANWAR Majid MUNIR Mahwish ASHRAF Muhammad SHAH Syed Mohsan Raza BASHARAT Sana AHMAD Iftikhar KHALIL Sangam 2023Journal of Mountain Science2023,20,5:0

10Parametic Model for Optimization of Battery Capacity and Power Transmitters of On-line Electric Vehicles in Closed/Open Environments显示文摘An on-line electric vehicle(OLEV)uses a wireless charging phenomenon,in which power transmitters are installed beneath the road and the OLEV’s battery is charged remotely.This paper deals with the optimization of two key economic and design parameters,i.e.,the size of the battery and the power transmitters allocation.A complete model configuration of the OLEV system,including the vehicle design and power transmitter,is implemented using MATLAB/Simulink.The battery’s state of charge(SOC)rises and drops according to the vehicle’s velocity and power collection and consumption.The mixed integer programming(MIP)model is used for cost calculation.Therefore,with the help of the SOC graph and MIP model,the battery size and the number of power transmitters,along with their placements,are optimized.The proposed model is applicable to both closed and open environments as it accepts both regulated and deregulated velocities.Two test cases are performed for this purpose.The first test case deals with regulated velocity for which we have applied the KAIST campus OLEV’s velocity along with its 13 kWh battery size and 4 power transmitters,and then applied the suggested solution with the same velocity and route i.e.,8 power transmitters with shorter lengths and reduced battery size(3.25 kWh;one-fourth of the first case).SOC is found within limits at the end of the route,saving$1600 and validating the proposed model in this paper.For the second test case,we use deregulated velocity and optimize both parameters,using the same approach.Fatima Nisar Syed Haider Imtiaz Alam Asad Waqar Toqeer Ahmed Mudassar Usman 2023CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2023,9,1:0
