1Inflammatory status in chronic renal failure: The role of homocysteinemia and pro-inflammatory cytokines显示文摘AIM: To evaluate determinants of inflammatory markers in chronic renal failure patients according to the level of glomerular filtration rate. METHODS: One hundred fifty four patients(Age; 44 ± 06 years, male/female; 66/88) with chronic renal failure(CRF) were divided into 6 groups according to the National Kidney Foundation(NKF) classification. They included 28 primary stage renal failure patients(CRF 1), 28 moderate stage renal failure patients(CRF 2),28 severe stage renal failure patients(CRF 3), 18 endstage renal failure patients(CRF 4), 40 hemodialysis(HD) patients, and 12 peritoneal dialysis(PD) patients. Tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), interleukin-1β(IL-1β), interleukin-6(IL-6) and C-reactive protein(CRP) were analyzed by immunosorbent assay kit(ELISA)(Cayman Chemical's ACETM EIA kit). Immunoassay methods were used for total homocysteine(tH cy)(fluorescence polarization immunoanalysis HPLC, Perkin Emer 200 series), transferrin(MININEPHTM human transferin kit: ZK070.R), ferritin(ADVIA Centaur) and fibrinogen analysis(ACL 200). Differences between groups were performed using SPSS 20.0 and data are expressed as the mean ± SD.RESULTS: Results showed that in comparison with CRF 1 group and other groups, TNF-α and IL-6 levels were respectively more elevated in HD(16.38 ± 5.52 pg/mL vs 0.39 ± 0.03 pg/mL, 11.05 ± 3.59 pg/mL vs 8.20 ± 0.22 pg/mL, P < 0.001) and PD(14.04 ± 3.40 pg/m L vs 0.39 ± 0.03 pg/m L, 10.15 ± 1.66 pg/m L vs 8.20 ± 0.22 pg/m L, P < 0.001). IL-1β levels were increased in HD(9.63 ± 3.50 pg/m L vs 3.24 ± 0.10 pg/mL, P < 0.001) and CRF 4(7.76 ± 0.66 pg/mL vs 3.24 ± 0.10 pg/m L, P < 0.001) patients than in CRF 1 and in the other groups. Plasma t Hcy levels were higher in HD(32.27 ± 12.08 μmol/L) and PD(28.37 ± 4.98 μmol/L) patients compared to the other groups of CRF(P < 0.001). The serum CRP level was significantly increased in HD(18.17 ± 6.38 mg/L) and PD(17.97 ± 4.85 mg/L) patients compared to the other groups of CRF patients(P < 0.001). The plasma fibrinogen level was more elevated in HD(6.86 ± 1.06 g/L) and CRF 4(6.05 ± 0.57 g/L) than in the other groups(P < 0.001). Furthermore; the ferritin level was higher in HD(169.90 ± 62.16 ng/m L) and PD(90.08 ± 22.09 ng/m L) patients compared to the other groups of CRF(P < 0.001). The serum transferrin value was significantly decreased especially in PD(1.78 ± 0.21 g/L) compared to the other groups(P < 0.001). We found a negative correlationbetween glomerular filtration rate(GFR), TNF-α levels(r =-0.75, P < 0.001), and t Hcy levels(r =-0.68, P < 0.001). We observed a positive correlation between GFR and transferrin levels(r = 0.60, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: CRF was associated with elevated inflammatory markers. 3Nosocomial infections:Epidemiology,prevention,control and surveillance显示文摘Nosocomial infections or healthcare associated infections occur in patients under medical care.These infections occur worldwide both in developed and developing countries.Nosocomial infections accounts for 7% in developed and 10% in developing countries.As these infections occur during hospital stay,they cause prolonged stay,disability,and economic burden.Frequently prevalent infections include central line-associated bloodstream infections,catheter-associated urinary tract infections,surgical site infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia.Nosocomial pathogens include bacteria,viruses and fungal parasites.According to WHO estimates,approximately 15% of all hospitalized patients suffer from these infections.During hospitalization,patient is exposed to pathogens through different sources environment,healthcare staff,and other infected patients.Transmission of these infections should be restricted for prevention.Hospital waste serves as potential source of pathogens and about 20%–25% of hospital waste is termed as hazardous.Nosocomial infections can be controlled by practicing infection control programs,keep check on antimicrobial use and its resistance,adopting antibiotic control policy.Efficient surveillance system can play its part at national and international level.Efforts are required by all stakeholders to prevent and control nosocomial infections.Hassan Ahmed Khan Fatima Kanwal Baig Riffat Mehboob 2017Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2017,7,5:22
4Potential mechanisms of hepatitis B virus induced liver injury显示文摘Chronic active hepatitis(CAH) is acknowledged as an imperative risk factor for the development of liver injury and hepatocellular carcinoma.The histological end points of CAH are chronic inflammation,fibrosis and cirrhosis which are coupled with increased DNA synthesis in cirrhotic vs healthy normal livers.The potential mechanism involved in CAH includes a combination of processes leading to liver cell necrosis,inflammation and cytokine production and liver scaring(fibrosis).The severity of liver damage is regulated by Hepatitis B virus genotypes and viral components.The viral and cellular factors that contribute to liver injury are discussed in this article.Liver injury caused by the viral infection affects many cellular processes such as cell signaling,apoptosis,transcription,DNA repair which in turn induce radical effects on cell survival,growth,transformation and maintenance.The consequence of such perturbations is resulted in the alteration of bile secretion,gluconeogenesis,glycolysis,detoxification and metabolism of carbohydrates,proteins,fat and balance of nutrients.The identification and elucidation of the molecular pathways perturbed by the viral proteins are important in order to design effective strategy to minimize and/or restore the hepatocytes injury.Mohd Suhail Hany Abdel-Hafiz Ashraf Ali Kaneez Fatima Ghazi A Damanhouri Esam Azhar Adeel GA Chaudhary Ishtiaq Qadri 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,35:12
5Dickkopfs and Wnt/β-catenin signalling in liver cancer显示文摘Liver cancer is the fifth and seventh most common cause of cancer in men and women,respectively.Wnt/β-catenin signalling has emerged as a critical player in both the development of normal liver as well as an oncogenic driver in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Based on the current understanding,this article summarizes the possible mechanisms for the aberrant activation of this pathway with specific focus on HCC.Furthermore,we will discuss the role of dickkopfs(DKKs)in regulating Wnt/β-catenin signalling,which is poorly understood and understudied.DKKs are a family of secreted proteins that comprise at least four members,namely DKK1-DKK4,which act as inhibitors of Wnt/β-catenin signalling.Nevertheless,not all members antagonize Wnt/β-catenin signalling.Their functional significance in hepatocarcinogenesis remains to be further characterized for which these studies should provide new insights into the regulatory role of DKKs in Wnt/β-catenin signalling in hepatic carcinogenesis.Because of the important oncogenic roles,there are an increasing number of therapeutic molecules targetingβ-catenin and the Wnt/β-catenin pathway for potential therapy of HCC.Sarwat Fatima Nikki P Lee John M Luk 2011World Journal of Clinical Oncology2011,2,8:11
6Influence of growth time on crystalline structure,conductivity and optical properties of ZnO thin films显示文摘This paper examines the growth of ZnO thin films on glass substrate at 350℃using an ultrasonic spray technique.We have investigated the influence of growth time ranging from 1 to 4 min on structural,optical and electrical properties of ZnO thin films.The as-grown films exhibit a hexagonal structure wurtzite and are(002) oriented.The maximum value of grain size G = 63.99 nm is attained for ZnO films grown at 2 min.The average transmittance is about 80%,thus the films are transparent in the visible region.The optical gap energy is found to increase from 3.26 to 3.37 eV with growth time increased from 1 to 2 min.The minimum value of electrical resistivity of the films is 0.13Ω·cm obtained at 2 min.A systematic study on the influence of growth time on the properties of ZnO thin films deposited by ultrasonic spray at 350℃has been reported.Said Benramache Foued Chabane Boubaker Benhaoua Fatima Z.Lemmadi 2013Journal of Semiconductors2013,34,2:9

8Environmental cues determine the fate of astrocytes after spinal cord injury显示文摘Reactive astrogliosis occurs after central nervous system(CNS) injuries whereby resident astrocytes form rapid responses along a graded continuum. Following CNS lesions, na?ve astrocytes are converted into reactive astrocytes and eventually into scar-forming astrocytes that block axon regeneration and neural repair. It has been known for decades that scarring development and its related extracellular matrix molecules interfere with regeneration of injured axons after CNS injury, but the cellular and molecular mechanisms for controlling astrocytic scar formation and maintenance are not well known. Recent use of various genetic tools has made tremendous progress in better understanding genesis of reactive astrogliosis. Especially, the latest experiments demonstrate environment-dependent plasticity of reactive astrogliosis because reactive astrocytes isolated from injured spinal cord form scarring astrocytes when transplanted into injured spinal cord, but revert in retrograde to naive astrocytes when transplanted into naive spinal cord. The interactions between upregulated type I collagen and its receptor integrin β1 and the N-cadherin-mediated cell adhesion appear to play major roles for local astrogliosis around the lesion. 9Relationship between Physical and Chemical Soil Attributes and Plant Species Diversity in Tropical Mountain Ecosystems from Brazil显示文摘Although the high diversity of plant species in the rupestrian fields has been primarily attributed to the existence of a set of distinct habitats, few studies support this assertion. The present study aimed to further investigate the relationship between physical and chemical attributes of soils with the diversity of plant species in this unique ecosystem. The rupestrian field is a unique vegetation formation that covers some of the southeastern Brazilian mountains in the transition of the Atlantic rain forest and the Cerrado(savanna). Different habitats occur according to soil characteristics(e.g., presence of rocks, sand, fertility, hydrology, etc.). These attributes ultimately influence the vegetation that is highly adapted to the harsh edaphic and climatic mountain conditions. Five distinct habitats were studied by us: rocky outcrops, peat bogs, sandy bogs, quartz gravel fields, and 'cerrado'(savanna). A floristic survey indicated that four families are found at greater frequency: Poaceae, Asteraceae, Cyperaceae, and Leguminosae. The greatest diversity of plant species was found in the rocky outcrops habitat, followed by cerrado, peat bog, quartz gravel grassland, and sandy bogs, respectively. The main difference in the floristic composition among these habitats was related to the dominant species. Trachypogon spicatus(Poaceae) was the most dominant species in the rocky outcrops, Axonopus siccus(Poaceae) in the peat bogs, Lagenocarpus rigidus(Cyperaceae) in the sandy bogs, Schizachyrium tenerum(Poaceae) in the cerrado, while Vellozia sp. 8(Velloziaceae) dominated the vegetation in the quartz gravel grassland. 10Synergistic Effects of Biochar and NPK Fertilizer on Soybean Yield in an Alkaline Soil显示文摘Biochar effects on legume growth and biological nitrogen fixation have been studied extensively, mostly in acidic soils with laboratory produced biochar. In the present study, a pot experiment in a full factorial experimental design was performed to examine soybean yield and nodulation of three genotypes grown with or without biochar and NPK fertilizers in an alkaline soil. We observed synergistic effects of biochar and NPK fertilizer applications on biomass and seed yields for all three soybean genotypes. Total biomass production and seed yield increased on average by 67% and 54%, respectively, with biochar and by 201% and 182% with NPK fertilizer application compared to the control. When applications of biochar and NPK fertilizer were combined, the increases were 391% and367%, respectively. However, the biomass production in the control was very low(692 kg ha-1) due to a high soil p H(8.80). The nodulation increased with biochar and NPK fertilizer applications, and was largest with the combined application. A correlation was found between leaf chlorophyll content(single photon avalanche diode value) and nodule number. Several studies have emphasized the importance of this multi-gene family of neuron-specific phosphoproteins in maintaining brain physiology. In the recent times, increasing evidence has established the relevance of alterations in synapsins as a major determinant in many neurological disorders. Here,we give a comprehensive description of the diverse roles of the synapsin family and the underlying molecular mechanisms that contribute to several neurological disorders.These physiologically important roles of synapsins associated with neurological disorders are just beginning to be understood. 16Anti-bacterial activity and brine shrimp lethality bioassay of methanolic extracts of fourteen different edible vegetables from Bangladesh显示文摘Objective:To investigate the antibacterial and cytotoxic activity of fourteen different edible vegetables methanolic extract from Bangladesh.Methods:The antibacterial activity was evaluated using disc diffusion assay method against 12 bacteria(both gram positive and gram negative).The plant extracts were also screened for cytotoxic activity using the brine shrimp lethality bioassay method and the lethal concentrations(LC_(50))were determined at confidence intervals by analyzing the data on a computer loaded with'Finney Programme??Results:All the vegetable extracts showed low to elevated levels of antibacterial activity against most of the tested strains(zone of inhibition=5-28 mm).The most active extract against all bacterial strains was from Xanthium indicum which showed remarkable antibacterial activity having the diameter of growth inhibition zone ranging from 12 to 28 mm followed by Alternanthera sessilis(zone of inhibition=6-21 mm).All extracts exhibited considerable general toxicity towards brine shrimps.The LC_(50)value of the tested extracts was within the range of 8.447 to 60.323μg/mL with respect to the positive control(vincristine sulphate)which was 0.91μg/mL.Among all studied extracts,Xanthium indicum displayed the highest cytotoxic effect with LC_(50)value of 8.447μg/mL.Conclusions:The results of the present investigation suggest that most of the studied plants are potentially good source of antibacterial and anticancer agents.M.Obayed Ullah Mahmuda Haque Kaniz Fatima Urmi Abu Hasanat Md.Zulfiker Elichea Synthi Anita Momtaj Begum Kaiser Hamid 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,1:5

18培养角膜缘上皮移植后穿透性角膜移植术的早期结果显示文摘目的:描述曾行培养角膜缘上皮移植的患者再行穿透性角膜移植(PKP)的早期结果。 方法:对因化学烧伤造成角膜缘干细胞缺乏而行培养的角膜缘上皮移植后又进行穿透性角膜移植术的患者有关人口统计学、原发病因、角膜缘移植类型、眼表稳定性、视力、移植片透明度和并发症方面的资料进行回顾和复习。对受体角膜片组织病理学特征进行研究,重点观察上皮状态。 结果:在患有角膜缘干细胞缺乏而进行培养的角膜缘上皮移植术的125例患者中,15例接受了穿透性角膜移植术(PKP)。角膜缘上皮移植术后(自体移植组n=11,同种异体移植组n=4)平均间隔时间为7个月(范围2—12个月)。同种异体移植组的4例患者均接受了免疫抑制疗法。15只眼中14只眼(93%)获得了含有稳定的角膜上皮的健全的角膜植片。15只眼中14只眼术前最佳矫正视力低于20/200。PKP后平均随访8.3±5.0个月,8只眼最佳矫正视力高于20/60,5只眼最佳矫正视力20/200至20/60。2只眼低于20/200。15只眼中3只眼发生异体角膜植片的排斥反应但被成功治疗。1只眼发生植片排斥的同时发生了青光眼。同种异体角膜缘上皮移植无一例显示排斥表现。 结论:培养的角膜缘上皮移植后,在形成稳定的眼表后行PKP的早期结果是良好的。为了避免排斥反应,培养的同种异体角膜缘上皮移植者行充分的免疫抑制治疗是必需的。角膜同种异体移植能够单独排斥同种异体角膜缘移植物。Virender S. 19Robust H_∞ Controller Design for Uncertain Neutral Systems via Dynamic Observer Based Output Feedback显示文摘In this paper, the dynamic observer-based controller design for a class of neutral systems with H∞ control is considered. An observer-based output feedback is derived for systems with polytopic parameter uncertainties. This controller assures delay-dependent stabilization and H∞ norm bound attenuation from the disturbance input to the controlled output. Chronic hepatitis C virus infection(HCV) is the most common cause of HCC in many European countries, Japan and Pakistan. Introduction of the new direct acting antivirals(DAAs) has revolutionized the management of HCV worldwide, with high rates of sustained virologic response in patients who could not have tolerated the previous interferon based treatments. However, recently there have been reports raising caution about the long term effects of DAAs, particularly a possible increased risk of HCC.
