Nitrogen(N) metabolism related enzyme activities, cell uitrastructure and nutrient contents as affected by N level and barley genotype显示文摘Development of the new crop cultivars with high yield under low nitrogen(N) input is a fundamental approach to enhance agricultural sustainability, which is dependent on the exploitation of the elite germplasm. In the present study, four barley genotypes(two Tibetan wild and two cultivated),differing in N use efficiency(NUE),were characterized for their physiological and biochemical responses to different N levels.Higher N levels significantly increased the contents of other essential nutrients(P,K,Ca,Fe,Cu and Mn),and the increase was more obvious for the N-efficient genotypes(ZD9 and XZ149).The observation of ultrastructure showed that chloroplast structure was severely damaged under low nitrogen, and the two high N efficient genotypes were relatively less affected. The activities of the five N metabolism related enzymes,i.e.,nitrate reductase(NR),glutamine synthetase(GS),nitrite reductase(NiR),glutamate synthase(GOGAT) and glutamate dehydrogenase(GDH) all showed the substantial increase with the increased N level in the culture medium. However the increased extent differed among the four genotypes, with the two N efficient genotypes showing more increase in comparison with the other two genotypes with relative N inefficiency(HXRL and XZ56).The current findings showed that a huge difference exists in low N tolerance among barley genotypes, and improvement of some physiological traits(such as enzymes) could be helpful for increasing N utilization efficiency. | Jawad Munawar Shah Syed Asad Hussain Bukhari ZENG Jian-bin QUAN Xiao-yan Essa Ali Noor Muhammad ZHANG Guo-ping | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2017,16,1: | 4
Synergistic effects of combined therapy of curcumin and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi for treatment of osteoporosis: cellular and molecular evidence of enhanced bone formation显示文摘Objective: The present study explored the effects of the combined herbal therapy consisting of curcumin(CUR) and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi(FLL) on aspects of bone regeneration. Methods: Prior to analyzing the ability of this novel combined herbal therapy to promote aspects of bone regeneration, its cytotoxicity was determined using MC3 T3-E1 cells(pre-osteoblast model). Cell proliferation was evaluated using phase-contrast microscopy and cell differentiation was estimated using alkaline phosphatase activity. The effect of the combined herbal therapy(CUR + FLL) was also assessed in terms of mineralization in the extracellular matrix(ECM) of cultured cells. Further, to explore the molecular mechanisms of bone formation, time-dependent expression of bone-regulating protein biomarkers was also evaluated. Results: Combined herbal therapy(CUR + FLL) significantly upregulated the viability, proliferation and differentiation of MC3 T3-E1 cells compared to the monotherapy of CUR or FLL. The magnitude of ECM mineralization(calcium deposition) was also higher in MC3 T3-E1 cells treated with combined therapy. The time-dependent expression of bone-forming protein biomarkers revealed that the tendency of expression of these bone-regulating proteins was remarkably higher in cells treated with combined therapy. Conclusion: The co-administration of CUR and FLL had superior promotion of elements of bone regeneration in cultured cells, thus could be a promising alternative herbal therapy for the management of bone erosive disorders such as osteoporosis. | Syed Nasir Abbas Bukhari Fahad Hussain Hnin Ei Thu Zahid Hussain | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2019,17,1: | 4

Intelligent Islanding Detection of Multi-distributed Generation Using Artificial Neural Network Based on Intrinsic Mode Function Feature显示文摘The integration of distributed energy resources(DERs) into distribution networks is becoming increasingly important, as it supports the continued adoption of renewable power generation, combined heat and power plants, and storage systems. Nevertheless, inadvertent islanding operation is one of the major protection issues in distribution networks connected to DERs. This study proposes an intelligent islanding detection method(IIDM) using an intrinsic mode function(IMF)feature-based grey wolf optimized artificial neural network(GWO-ANN). In the proposed IIDM, the modal voltage signal is pre-processed by variational mode decomposition followed by Hilbert transform on each IMF to derive highly involved features. Then, the energy and standard deviation of IMFs are employed to train/test the GWO-ANN model for identifying the islanding operations from other non-islanding events. To evaluate the performance of the proposed IIDM, various islanding and non-islanding conditions such as faults, voltage sag, linear and nonlinear load and switching, are considered as the training and testing datasets. Moreover, the proposed IIDM is evaluated under noise conditions for the measured voltage signal. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed IIDM is capable of differentiating between islanding and non-islanding events without any sensitivity under noise conditions in the test signal. | Samuel Admasie Syed Basit Ali Bukhari Teke Gush Raza Haider Chul Hwan Kim | 2020 | Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2020,8,3: | 2

Cardiogenic shock in the setting of acute myocardial infarction:Another area of sex disparity?显示文摘Cardiogenic shock in the setting of acute myocardial infarction(AMI)carries significant morbidity and mortality, despite advances in pharmacological, mechanical and reperfusion therapies.Studies suggest that there is evidence of sex disparities in the risk profile, management, and outcomes of cardiogenic shock complicating AMI.Compared with men, women tend to have more comorbidities, greater variability in symptom presentation and are less likely to receive timely revascularization and mechanical circulatory support. These factors might explain why women tend to have worse outcomes. In this review,we highlight sex-based differences in the prevalence, management, and outcomes of cardiogenic shock due to AMI,and discuss potential ways to mitigate them. | Syed Bukhari Shumail Fatima Islam Y Elgendy | 2021 | World Journal of Cardiology2021,13,6: | 1
Three new anthraquinone derivatives isolated from Symplocos racemosa and their antibiofilm activity显示文摘Three new alkyl substituted anthraquinone derivatives, trivially named as symploquinones A-C(Compounds 1-3) were isolated from Symplocos racemosa. The structures of these compounds were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses(UV, IR, Mass, ~1 H-and ^(13)C-NMR, and two-dimensional(2D) NMR techniques). The resulting data were also compared with the reported literature. These compounds were then subjected to antibacterial or antibiofilm testing. Compounds 1 and 3 exhibited good antibacterial activity in the concentration range of 160-83 μg·m L^(-1) against Streptococcus mutans, methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus mirabilis. Both compounds were further screened for anti-biofilm activity, which revealed promising activities at sub-MIC concentrations. None of the compounds were found to be active against Klebsiella pneumoniae. | Umar Farooq Sara Khan Sadia Naz Ajmal Khan Afsar Khan Ayaz Ahmed Abdur Rauf Syed Majid Bukhari Shujaat Ali Khan Arfa Kamil Nadia Riaz Abdur Rahman Khan | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2017,15,12: | 0
Assessment of Phosphorus Levels in Small Ruminants as Affected by Summer and Winter显示文摘An experiment was carried out to assess the phosphorus status of free grazing goats at Faisalabad,Pakistan.Samples were collected fortnightly during summer and winter seasons of 2010 from soil and plants. The highest(118±0.54 mg·kg-1)levels of feces phosphorus were recorded in lactating goats during winter and(9.87±0.99 mg·kg-1)in urine of male during winter.Similarly maximum(71.0±0.88 mg·kg-1)phosphorus concentration was observed in the plasma of lactating animals.Milk contained(31.0±0.36)mg·L-1 in winter while during the months of summer the highest values recorded in forages, soils, canal and tube well waters were(755±1.98)mg·kg-1,(785±4.98)mg·kg-1,(0.97±8.78)mg·L-1 and(4.12±0.55)mg·L-1,respectively.It was revealed from the current results that fecal matter, forage, milk, tube well and canal water contained lower amounts of P,while P levels in blood plasma was found within the critical limits. Therefore, phosphorus supplementations were required in the area under experimentation to meet the requirements of the animals for their normal growth. | Ansar Mahmood Dr.Asma Hassan Iram Maqsood Tang Li-jie Syed Mohsin Bukhari Khalil-Ur-Rehman and Shahla Andleeb | 2014 | Journal of Northeast Agricultural University(English Edition)2014,21,1: | 0
A Blockchain Based Framework for Stomach Abnormalities Recognition显示文摘Wireless Capsule Endoscopy(WCE)is an imaging technology, widely used in medical imaging for stomach infection recognition. However,a one patient procedure takes almost seven to eight minutes and approximately 57,000 frames are captured. The privacy of patients is very important and manual inspection is time consuming and costly. Therefore,an automated system for recognition of stomach infections from WCE frames is always needed. An existing block chain-based approach is employed in a convolutional neural network model to secure the network for accurate recognition of stomach infections such as ulcer and bleeding.Initially, images are normalized in fixed dimension and passed in pre-trained deep models. These architectures are modified at each layer,to make them safer and more secure. Each layer contains an extra block, which stores certain information to avoid possible tempering, modification attacks and layer deletions.Information is stored in multiple blocks,i.e.,block attached to each layer,a ledger block attached with the network, and a cloud ledger block stored in the cloud storage. After that, features are extracted and fused using a Mode value-based approach and optimized using a Genetic Algorithm along with an entropy function. The Softmax classifier is applied at the end for final classification.Experiments are performed on a private collected dataset and achieve an accuracy of 96.8%.The statistical analysis and individual model comparison show the proposed method’s authenticity. | Muhammad Attique Khan Inzamam Mashood Nasir Muhammad Sharif Majed Alhaisoni Seifedine Kadry Syed Ahmad Chan Bukhari Yunyoung Nam | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,4: | 0

Cardiac amyloidosis: state-of-the-art review显示文摘Cardiac amyloidosis(CA)is caused by deposition of amyloid fibrils in the myocardium and has two main sub-types,transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis(ATTR)and immunoglobulin light chain cardiac amyloidosis(AL).ATTR is further dif-ferentiated into wild-type(wtATTR)and hereditary(hATTR),depending on the absence or presence of mutation in the trans-thyretin gene. The increased recognition of disease with the improvement in diagnostic armamentarium and serendipitous ad-vancements in the therapeutic landscape have changed the status of CA from being a rare and untreatable disease to being a not-so-rare and treatable disease. Both ATTR and AL have certain clinical aspects that can provide early clues for the disease. While electrocardiography followed by echocardiography and subsequently cardiac magnetic resonance can raise suspicion for CA,the definitive diagnosis of ATTR is non-invasively established by bone scintigraphy while that of AL always needs histological con-firmation.Severity of CA can be gauged by serum biomarker-based staging of both ATTR and AL.ATTR therapies work by silen-cing or stabilizing TTR or by degrading amyloid fibrils, while AL is managed with anti-plasma cell therapies and autologous stem cell transplant. | Syed Bukhari | 2023 | Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2023,20,5: | 0
Magnetoelectric effect in multiferroic NdMn2O5显示文摘We have measured the dielectric constant for NdMn_2O_5 in an external magnetic field to map out the magnetoelectric phase diagram. The phase diagram corresponds well with the previously reported data of neutron diffraction and magnetic susceptibility. Our main finding is the observation of a dielectric anomaly in the low temperature phase with a strong magnetoelectric effect, which is attributed to the independent Nd^(3+) ordering. Moreover, the absence of the dielectric anomaly in the paramagnetic phase is discussed, keeping in view the exchange interaction and its dependence on the rareearth R^(3+) ionic radius. | Syed Hamad Bukhari Javed Ahmad | 2017 | Chinese Physics B2017,26,1: | 0
Classification of Positive COVID-19 CT Scans Using Deep Learning显示文摘In medical imaging, computer vision researchers are faced with a variety of features for verifying the authenticity of classifiers for an accurate diagnosis. In response to the coronavirus 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,new testing procedures, medical treatments, and vaccines are being developed rapidly. One potential diagnostic tool is a reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).RT-PCR,typically a time-consuming process, was less sensitive to COVID-19 recognition in the disease’s early stages. Here we introduce an optimized deep learning(DL)scheme to distinguish COVID-19-infected patients from normal patients according to computed tomography(CT)scans. In the proposed method, contrast enhancement is used to improve the quality of the original images.A pretrained DenseNet-201 DL model is then trained using transfer learning. Two fully connected layers and an average pool are used for feature extraction. The extracted deep features are then optimized with a Firefly algorithm to select the most optimal learning features.Fusing the selected features is important to improving the accuracy of the approach;however,it directly affects the computational cost of the technique. In the proposed method,a new parallel high index technique is used to fuse two optimal vectors;the outcome is then passed on to an extreme learning machine for final classification.Experiments were conducted on a collected database of patients using a 70:30 training:Testing ratio. Our results indicated an average classification accuracy of 94.76%with the proposed approach.A comparison of the outcomes to several other DL models demonstrated the effectiveness of our DL method for classifying COVID-19 based on CT scans. | Muhammad Attique Khan Nazar Hussain Abdul Majid Majed Alhaisoni Syed Ahmad Chan Bukhari Seifedine Kadry Yunyoung Nam Yu-Dong Zhang | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,3: | 0
