| 1 | Adsorption of Methylene Blue on magnesium silicate: Kinetics, equilibria and comparison with other adsorbents显示文摘Batch adsorption from aqueous solutions in a slightly basic medium of Methylene Blue, up to 2500 mg/L, onto synthetic magnesium silicate (Florisil) of three particle size ranges (mean diameters of 112, 200 and 425 μm) was compared to the corresponding adsorption onto activated carbon and Amberlite XAD-2. The best fit of the kinetic results was achieved by a pseudo second-order equation. The equilibrium data were found to be well represented by the Langmuir isotherm equation. Amberlite XAD-2, an unspecific adsorbent capable of adsorbing exclusively through a surface effect, exhibited a poor dye uptake, confirming that the adsorption mechanism on Florisil was due to electrostatic attraction and ion exchange. | 2 | Prognostic value of increased carbohydrate antigen in patients with heart failure显示文摘AIM:To study the prognostic value of carbohydrateantigen 125(CA125) and whether it adds prognostic information to N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP) in stable heart failure(HF) patients.METHODS:The predictive value of CA125 was retrospectively assessed in 156 patients with stable HF remitted to the outpatient HF unit for monitoring from 2009 to 2011.Patients were included in the study if they had a previous documented episode of HF and received HF treatment.CA125 and NT-proBNP concentrations were measured.The independent association between NT-proBNP or CA125 and mortality was assessed with Cox regression analysis,and their combined predictive ability was tested by the integrated discrimination improvement(IDI) index.RESULTS:The mean age of the 156 patients was 72 ± 12 years.During follow-up(17 ± 8 mo),27 patients died,1 received an urgent heart transplantation and 106 required hospitalization for HF.Higher CA125 values were correlated with outcomes:58 ± 85 KU/L if hospitalized vs 34 ± 61 KU/L if not(P < 0.05),and 94 ± 121 KU/L in those who died or needed urgent heart transplantation vs 45 ± 78 KU/L in survivors(P < 0.01).After adjusting for propensity scores,the highest risk was observed when both biomarkers were elevated vs not elevated(HR = 8.95,95%CI:3.11-25.73; P < 0.001) and intermediate when only NT-proBNP was elevated vs not elevated(HR = 4.15,95%CI:1.41-12.24; P < 0.01).Moreover,when CA125 was added to the clinical model with NT-proBNP,a 4%(P < 0.05) improvement in the IDI was found.CONCLUSION:CA125 > 60 KU/L identified patients in stable HF with poor survival.Circulating CA125 level adds prognostic value to NT-proBNP level in predicting HF outcomes. | Ana B Méndez Jordi Ordonez-Llanos Andreu Ferrero Mariana Noguero Teresa Mir Josefina Mora Antoni Bayes-Genis Sònia Mirabet Juan Cinca Eulàlia Roig | 2014 | World Journal of Cardiology2014，6，4： | 13 |

| 11 | An integrated multiscale approach for characterization of rock masses subjected to tunnel excavation显示文摘The design of tunnels must be conducted based on the knowledge of the territory. The longer the structure, the larger the area to be investigated, and the greater the number of surveys and tests to be performed in order to thoroughly examine all the relevant features. Therefore, optimization of the investigation process is strongly required to obtain complete and reliable data for the design of the infrastructure. The fast development of remote sensing technologies and the affordability of their products have contributed to proving their benefits as supports for investigation, encouraging the spreading of automatic or semi-automatic methods for regional scale surveys. Similarly, considering the scale of the rock outcrop, photogrammetric and laser scanner techniques are well-established techniques for representing geometrical features of rock masses, and the benefits of non-contact surveys in terms of safety and time consumption are acknowledged. Unfortunately, in most cases, data obtained at different scales of investigations are only partially integrated or compared, probably due to the missing exchange of knowledge among experts of different fields(e.g. geologists and geotechnical engineers). The authors,after experiencing such a lack of connection among the results of different surveys concerning tunnels,propose a multiscale approach for the optimization of the investigation process, starting from the regional scale, to obtain the data that can be useful not only for planning more detailed surveys in a preliminary phase, but also for making previsions on the discontinuity sets that are present in the rock masses subjected to excavations. A methodological process is proposed and illustrated by means of a case study.
