| 11 | Interleukin-5 promotes ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 expression through miR-211/JAK2/STAT3 pathways in THP-1-dervied macrophages显示文摘Interleukin-5 (IL-5) is manifested as its involvement in the process of atherosclerosis, but the mechanism is still unknown. In this study, we explored the effect of IL-5 on lipid metabolism and its underlying mechanisms in THP-1-derived macrophages. The quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and western blot analysis results showed that IL-5 significantly up-regulated ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) expression in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner. [3H]-labeled cholesterol was used to assess the levels of cholesterol efflux, and the results showed that IL-5 increased ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux. A high-performance liquid chromatography assay indicated that cellular cholesterol content was decreased by IL-5 treatment in THP-1-derived macrophages. The selective inhibitor and small interfering RNA were used to block the Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathway. The results of the qPCR and western blot analysis showed that IL-5 activated JAK2/STAT3 pathway to up-regulate ABCA1 expression. Meanwhile, IL-5 reduced the expression level of miR-211. Furthermore, we found that JAK2 is a target gene of miR-211 and miR-211 mimic inhibited the expression of JAK2 and reduced the levels of p-STAT3 and ABCA1 as revealed by luciferase reporter assay, qPCR and western blot analysis. | 14 | A novel entry point for pedicle screw placement in the thoracic spine显示文摘This study was aimed to introduce a novel entry point for pedicle screw fixation in the thoracic spine and compare it with the traditional entry point. A novel entry point was found with the aim of improving accuracy, safety and stability of pedicle screw technique based on anatomical structures of the spine. A total of 76 pieces of normal thoracic CT images at the transverse plane and the thoracic pedicle anatomy of 6 cadaveric specimens were recruited.Transverse pedicle angle(TPA), screw length, screw placement accuracy rate and axial pullout strength of the two different entry point groups were compared. There were significant differences in the TPA, screw length, and the screw placement accuracy rate between the two groups(P<0.05). The maximum axial pullout strength of the novel entry point group was slightly larger than that of the traditional group. However, the difference was not significant(P > 0.05). The total deposition was monitored at Tieshanping catchment, a regional remote site in Chongqing City. The dry deposition loads of sulphur, calcium and nitrogen are estimated by using a canopy throughfall approach. The results indicate that the annual dry deposition loads of sulphur and calcium at Tieshanping site are much higher than those measured in forestry areas in other countries, while the dry deposition flux of ni- trogen is at a comparable level. | 16 | Sinorhizobium meliloti lsrB is involved in alfalfa root nodule development and nitrogen-fixing bacteroid differentiation显示文摘Rhizobia interact with host legumes to induce the formation of nitrogen-fixing nodules,which is very important in agriculture and ecology.The development of nitrogen-fixing nodules is stringently regulated by host plants and rhizobial symbionts.In our previous work,a new Sinorhizobium meliloti LysR regulator gene(lsrB)was identified to be essential for alfalfa nodulation.However,how this gene is involved in alfalfa nodulation was not yet understood.Here,we found that this gene was associated with prevention of premature nodule senescence and abortive bacteroid formation.Heterogeneous deficient alfalfa root nodules were induced by the in-frame deletion mutant of lsrB(lsrB1-2),which was similar to the plasmid-insertion mutant,lsrB1.Irregular senescence zones earlier appeared in these nodules where bacteroid differentiation was blocked at different stages from microscopy observations.Interestingly,oxidative bursts were observed in these nodules by DAB staining.The decreased expression of lipopolysaccharide core genes(lpsCDE)was correspondingly determined in these nodules.S.meliloti lipopolysaccharide is required for suppression of oxidative bursts or host cell defense.These findings demonstrate that the S.meliloti lsrB gene is involved in alfalfa root nodule development and bacteroid differentiation by suppressing oxidative bursts or defense responses in host cells. | TANG GuiRong LU DaWei WANG Dong LUO Li | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,33: | 2 |

| 18 | Study on the Heat Conduction of Phase-Change Material Microcapsules显示文摘The 3ω approach was used to measure the effective thermal conductivity of phase-change material microcapsules (PCMMs) based on urea formaldehyde and sliced paraffin. The effective thermal conductivities of PCMMs with different densities were measured within the phase-change temperature range. The relationships between effective thermal conductivity, density and temperature were analysed. The effective thermal conductivity reached peak values within the phase-change temperature range and the temperature peak value was consistent with the peak value of the phase-change temperature.
