The EDTA analysis of carbonates in different size fractions and magnetic susceptibility reveal that calcite is a sensitive index of summer monsoon. | 3 | Principles and technology for stepwise utilization of resources for mitigating deep mine heat hazards显示文摘As is well known, deep mines are hot. As mining depth increases, the temperature of the surrounding rock also increases. This seriously affects mine safety and production and has restricted the exploitation of deep coal resources. Therefore, reducing the working face temperature to improve working conditions by controlling these heat hazards is an urgent problem. Considering problems in cooling deep mines both domestically and abroad along with the actual conditions of the Zhangshuanglou coal mine, we propose a HEMS technology that uses heat resources from deep mines in a stepwise manner. HEMS means a high temperature ex-change machinery system. Mine inrush-water is used as a source of cooling. Twice the energy is extracted from the mine inrush water. Heat is used for building heating in the winter and cold water is used for cooling buildings in the summer. This opens a new technology for stepwise utilization of heat energy in deep mines. Energy conservation and reduced pollution, an improved environment and sustainable economic development are realized by this technique. | 6 | Spatial and Temporal Variability of Thermal Stress to China's Coral Reefs in South China Sea显示文摘Coral bleaching, caused by elevated sea surface temperature(SST), is occurring more frequently and seriously worldwide. Due to the lack of field observations, we understand little about the large-scale variability of thermal stress in the South China Sea(SCS) and its effect on China's coral reefs. This paper used 4-km high resolution gap-filled SST(Filled SST) data and thermal stress data related to coral bleaching derived from Coral Reef Temperature Anomaly Database(Co RTAD) to quantify the spatial and temporal characteristics of chronic thermal stress and acute thermal stress to China's coral reefs in SCS from 1982 to 2009. We analyzed the trend of SST in summer and the thermal stress frequency, intensity and duration during this period. The results indicate that, as a chronic thermal stress, summer mean SST in SCS shows an average upward trend of 0.2℃/decade and the spatial pattern is heterogeneous. Waters of Xisha Islands and Dongsha Islands of the northern SCS are warming faster through time compared to Zhongsha Islands and Nansha Islands sea areas of the southern SCS. High frequency bleaching related thermal stress events for these reefs are seen in the area to the northwest of Luzon Island. Severe anomaly thermal stress events are more likely to occur during the subsequent year of the El Nino year for these coral reefs. | 7 | Branched alkanes with quaternary carbon atoms in Chinese soils: Potential environmental implications显示文摘Lipids extracted from 26 modern soils collected from different climate zones in China and Mongolia are analyzed using gas chromatography- mass spectrometry. These extracts contain pseudo- homologous families of 5,5-diethylalkanes (5,5- DEAs), 6,6-diethylalkanes, 5-butyl-5-ethylalkanes and 6-butyl-6-ethylalkanes, which are first detected in modern soils. All these pseudohomologous series display exclusively odd or exclusively even carbon numbers, clearly indicating a biosynthetic origin, and their carbon number distributions generally covary. The distributions of 5,5-DEAs exhibit strong regional variations, correlated with the spatial distributions of climate and vegetation. The lower molecular weight 5,5-DEAs, maximizing at C21 or C23, dominate in southeast and southwest China samples, while the higher molecular weight 5,5-DEAs with a mode at C29 dominate in cold, arid northwest China and Mongolia. | 8 | Introduction of antisense waxy gene into main parent lines of indica hybrid rice显示文摘Amylose content in rice endosperm is one of the key determinants of rice eating and cooking quality, and the poor quality of indica hybrid rice is closely related to the high amylose level in rice grains. In order to improve the grain quality of the indica hybrid rice by genetic engineering, an antisense fragment of rice waxy gene, driven by the 5’-franking sequences of the rice waxy gene, was successfully introduced into three major parent lines of indica hybrid rice, all contain a high amylose level in the grains, via Agrobacte-rium, and more than 100 hygromycin-resistant plants were regenerated. The analysis of PCR amplification and Southern blots indicated that the T-DNA containing the antisense waxy gene had been integrated into the genome of transgenic rice plants. In this work, we developed a facile colorimetric assaying system for Ag+ detection in aqueous solution. Chitosan-stabilized platinum nanoparticles(ChPtNPs) were synthesized and severed as an artificial oxidase to catalyze the oxidation of the substrate3,30,5,50-tetramethylbenzidine(TMB) and generate color signal. In the presence of Ag+, due to the strong metallophilic interactions between Ag+ and Pt2+ on the surface of Ch-PtNPs, Ag+ can weaken the affinity to the substrates and inactivate the catalytic activity of Ch-PtNPs, leading to decreased absorbance signal to varying degrees depending on Ag+ amount. Combing the specific binding between Ch-PtNPs and Ag+ with signal amplification procedure based on the Ch-PtNPs-catalyzed TMB oxidation, a sensitive,selective, simple, cost-effective, and rapid detection method for Ag+ can be realized. Ag+ ions in tap and lake waters have been successfully detected. | 17 | Aeolian dust dynamics in the Fergana Valley, Central Asia, since -30 ka inferred from loess deposits显示文摘Knowledge of the interactions among atmospheric dynamics,dust emissions and climate system is essential to understand the physical mechanisms for the dust lifecycle,their role in loess formation as well as the predictions of future dust concentration.However,these issues still remain relatively poorly known in Central Asia(CA).The extensive loess deposits on the CA pediments provide a promising archive to explore atmospheric dust dynamics and climatic conditions in the past and their association with loess formation.This study investigates the granulometric and magnetic properties of a loess section(named Osh section)in the Fergana Valley,which provides a sensitive record of atmospheric dust dynamics since 30 ka based on radiometric(AMS ^(14)C)dating.The frequency-dependent magnetic susceptibility(χfd)and the mean grain size are used to reconstruct the broadscale effective moisture and summer atmospheric dynamics pattern in CA,respectively.The results show that the precession forcing exerts a huge influence on the wind-regime variabilities in CA,but with different physical processes under the impact of the Northern Hemisphere ice sheet(NHIS)before and after 15 ka.The origin of the sedimentation rate variations in the Osh loess is also linked to the NHIS-modulated changes of the atmospheric circulation patterns.Either the strengthened westerlies or the increased surface roughness from higher vegetation cover in loess-deposition areas have significantly accelerated the loess accumulation.As a result,these complicated influence factors of sedimentation rate change in the Osh loess section,especially during the Holocene epoch,may hamper accessibility of the authentic dust emission flux and atmospheric dust concentration in CA. | Yue Li Yougui Song Dimitris G.Kaskaoutis Jinbo Zan Rustam Orozbaev Liangcheng Tan Xiuling Chen | 2021 | Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,5: | 1 |
