1Canopy interception loss in a Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica forest of Northeast China显示文摘Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica is one of the main species to be afforested in deserts of China. But little work has been carried out on the canopy interception loss of this plant species. For researching the canopy interception loss of a natural P. sylvestris forest, we observed the gross precipitation, gross snowfall, throughfall and stemflow in a sample plot at the Forest Ecosystem Research Station of Mohe in the Great Khingan Mountains of Northeast China from July 2012 to September 2013. Considering the spatial variability of the throughfall, we increased the area rather than the number of collector and randomly relocated them once a week. The results demonstrated that the throughfall, stemflow, and derived estimates of rainfall and snowfall interception loss during the main rainy and snowy seasons were 77.12%±5.70%, 0.80%, 22.08%±5.51% and 21.39%±1.21% of the incident rainfall or snowfall, respectively. The stemflow didn't occur unless the accumulated rainfall reached up to 4.8 mm. And when the gross precipitation became rich enough, the stemflow increased with increasing tree diameters. 2Introduction of antisense waxy gene into main parent lines of indica hybrid rice显示文摘Amylose content in rice endosperm is one of the key determinants of rice eating and cooking quality, and the poor quality of indica hybrid rice is closely related to the high amylose level in rice grains. In order to improve the grain quality of the indica hybrid rice by genetic engineering, an antisense fragment of rice waxy gene, driven by the 5’-franking sequences of the rice waxy gene, was successfully introduced into three major parent lines of indica hybrid rice, all contain a high amylose level in the grains, via Agrobacte-rium, and more than 100 hygromycin-resistant plants were regenerated. The analysis of PCR amplification and Southern blots indicated that the T-DNA containing the antisense waxy gene had been integrated into the genome of transgenic rice plants. Most of the primary transgenic rice plants grew normally, and the mature seeds from these transgenic plants were performed for analysis of the amylose content. 3Improving forest burn severity estimations with partial least squares regression and orthogonal signal correction methods in Daxing'an Mountains,China显示文摘Several indices and simple empirical models and ratios of single band from pre-and post-fire Landsat images have been developed to estimate and/or map burn severity.However,these models and indices are usually site-,time-and vegetation-dependent and their applications are limited.The Daxing'an Mountains range has the largest forested area in China and is prone to wildfires.Whether or not the existing models can effectively characterize the burn severity over a large region is unclear.In this study,we used the orthogonal signal correction method based on partial least squares regression(PLSR)to select those variables that better interpret the variance of burn severity.A new index and other commonly used indices were used to construct a new,multivariate PLSR model which was compared with the popular single variable models,according to three assessment indices:relative root mean square error(RMSE%),relative bias(R E%)and Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency(NSE%).The results indicate that the multivariate PLSR model performed better than the other single variable models with higher NSE%(68.2%vs.67.8%)and less RE%(3.7%vs.-8.7%),while achieving almost the same R MSE%.We also discuss the spectral characteristics of the four selected variables for constructing the multivariate PLSR model and their correlation with the field burn severity data.The new model developed from this study should help to better understand the patterns of forest burn severity and assist in vegetation restoration efforts in the region.Cunyong Ju Tijiu Cai Wenhong Li Ge Sun Chengliang Lei Xueying Di Xiuling Man 2021Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,3:2
4Ancient DNA sequences of rice from the low Yangtze reveal significant genotypic divergence显示文摘Rice (Oryza sativa) was first domesticated in the lower and middle Yangtze regions of China, and rice remains have been found in many Chinese archaeological sites. Until now, only phenotypic archeobotanical evidence, such as the spikelet bases of ancient grains, has been used to speculate on the domestication process and domestication rate of rice. In this study, we sequenced 4 genomic segments from rice remains in Tianluoshan, a site of the local Hemudu Neolithic culture in the low Yangtze and two other archaeological sites (~2400 and 1200 BC, respectively). We compared our sequences with those of the current domesticated and wild rice (O. rufipogon) populations. At least two genotypes were found in the remains from each site, suggesting a heterozygotic state of the rice seeds. One ancient genotype was not found in the current domesticated population and might have been lost. The rice remains belonged to the japonica group, and most if not all were japonica-type, suggesting that the remains might be at an early stage of indica-japonica divergence or an indica-japonica mixture. 9OsRRMh, a Spen‐Like Gene, Plays an Important Role During the Vegetative to Reproductive Transition in Rice显示文摘OsRRMh,a homologue of OsRRM,encodes a Spen‐like protein,and is composed of two N‐terminal RNA recognition motifs(RRM)and one C‐terminal Spen paralogue and an orthologue C‐terminal domain(SPOC).The gene has been found to be constitutively expressed in the root,stem,leaf,spikelet,and immature seed,and alternative splicing patterns were confrmed in different tissues,which may indicate diverse functions for OsRRMh.The OsRRMh dsRNAi lines exhibited late‐fowering and a larger panicle phenotype.When full‐length OsRRMh and/or its SPOC domain were overexpressed,the fertility rate and number of spikelets per panicle were both markedly reduced.Also,overexpression of OsRRMh in the Arabidopsis fpa mutant did not restore the normal fowering time,and it delayed fowering in Col plants.Therefore,we propose that OsRRMh may confer one of its functions in the vegetative‐to‐reproductive transition in rice(Oryza sativa L.subsp.japonica cv.Zhonghua No.11(ZH11)).Derui Liu Xiuling Cai 2013Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2013,55,9:0

11First intron retention in part transcripts of OsEBP-89 gene in tissues of rice显示文摘OsEBP-89 is a transcription factor gene of rice. It contains two introns. Using RT-PCR and Southern hybridization to study OsEBP-89 tissue-specific expression, we found that its first intron (115 bp in length) of its was retained in a fraction of its transcripts of this gene in rice developing seeds. Furthermore, two OsEBP-89 cDNA clones (c89L and c89LH) were screened from a rice cDNA library. Sequence analysis revealed that the first intron was retained in c89L clone, whereas, both the first and second intron sequences were spliced in c89LH. In addition to developing seeds, the first intron unspliced transcripts of OsEBP-89 are detected in leaves and roots of rice, too. However, the ratio of the first intron unspliced to spliced OsEBP-89 transcripts varied in different tissues examined. 12Risk factors for disease severity in COVID-19 patients: A single-center retrospective study显示文摘Background:The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has posed a huge threat to human health.However,little is known regarding the risk factors associated with COVID-19 severity.We aimed to explore early-stage disease risk factors associated with eventual disease severity.Methods:This study enrolled 486 hospitalized,non-intensive care unit(ICU)-admitted adult patients with COVID-19(age≥18 years)treated at Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital,who were divided into three groups according to disease severity.The demographic,clinical,and laboratory data at admission and clinical outcomes were compared among severity groups,and the risk factors for disease severity were identified by multiple regression analysis.Results:Of 486 patients with COVID-19,405(83.33%)were discharged,33(6.71%)died outside of the ICU,and 48(7.20%)were still being treated in the ICU by the time the study period ended.Significant differences in age,lymphocyte counts,and the levels of procalcitonin,aspartate aminotransferase,and D-dimer(P<0.001 for all)among the three groups.Further analysis showed that older age,decreased lymphocyte counts,and increased procalcitonin,aspartate aminotransferase,and D-dimer levels were significantly associated with disease progression.Conclusion:Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)may impair the immune system,the blood coagulation system,and hepatic and cardiac function.Some clinical characteristics and laboratory findings can help identify patients with a high risk of disease severity,which can be significant for appropriate resource allocation during the COVID-19 pandemic.Jingqing Xu Yanping Cai Min Li Qing Li Yingrui Zhang Ying Jiang Wanli Yan Xuemei Chen Hongxuan Zhang Zhaonan Zeng Fayang Lian Xiuling Shang Rongguo Yu 2021Journal of Intensive Medicine2021,1,2:0
13Multi-Environmental Genetic Analysis of Grain Size Traits Based on Chromosome Segment Substitution Line in Rice(Oryza sativa L.)显示文摘Grain size traits are critical agronomic traits which directly determine grain yield,but the genetic bases of these traits are still not well understood.In this study,a total of 154 chromosome segment substitution lines(CSSLs)population derived from a cross between a japonica variety Koshihikari and an indica variety Nona Bokra was used to investigate grain length(GL),grain width(GW),length-width ratio(LWR),grain perimeter(GP),grain area(GA),and thousand grain weight(TGW)under four environments.QTL mapping analysis of six grain size traits was performed by QTL IciMapping 4.2 with an inclusive composite interval mapping(ICIM)model.A total of 64 QTLs were identified for these traits,which mapped to chromosomes 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,10,11,and 12 and accounted for 1.6%–27.1%of the total phenotypic variations.Among these QTLs,thirty-six loci were novel and seven QTLs were identified under four environments.One locus containing the known grain size gene,qGL3/GL3.1/OsPPKL1,also have been found.Moreover,five pairs of digenic epistatic interactions were identified except for GL and GP.These findings will facilitate fine mapping of the candidate gene and QTL pyramiding to genetically improve grain yield in rice.Yujia Leng Shuilian Wang Ruoan Wang Tao Tao Shuwen Jia Tao Song Lina Xu Xiuling Cai Sukui Jin Jiping Gao 2022Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2022,91,5:0
