1Thermal decomposition and kinetics of plastic bonded explosives based on mixture of HMX and TATB with polymer matrices显示文摘This work describes thermal decomposition behaviour of plastic bonded explosives(PBXs) based on mixture of 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocane(HMX) and 2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-trinitrobenzene(TATB)with Viton A as polymer binder. Thermal decomposition of PBXs was undertaken by applying simultaneous thermal analysis(STA) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) to investigate influence of the HMX amount on thermal behavior and its kinetics. Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) indicated that the thermal decomposition of PBXs based on mixture of HMX and TATB was occurred in a three-steps. The first step was mainly due to decomposition of HMX. The second step was ascribed due to decomposition of TATB, while the third step was occurred due to decomposition of the polymer matrices. The thermal decomposition % was increased with increasing HMX amount. The kinetics related to thermal decomposition were investigated under non-isothermal for a single heating rate measurement. The variation in the activation energy of PBXs based on mixture of HMX and TATB was observed with varying the HMX amount. The kinetics from the results of TGA data at various heating rates under non-isothermal conditions were also calculated by Flynn—Wall—Ozawa(FWO) and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose(KAS)methods. The activation energies calculated by employing FWO method were very close to those obtained by KAS method. 2Evaluation of phenolic composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of Polygonatum verticillatum(L.)显示文摘Objective: Polygonatum verticillatum(L.) All.(Ruscaceae), one of the Ashtawarga plants, is widely used for treatment of various ailments. The present study was undertaken to determine the phenolic composition,antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of several extracts(petroleum ether, dichloromethane, chloroform, ethanol, and aqueous) from the rhizomes of the plant.Methods: Coarsely powdered dry rhizome was successively extracted with different solvents of increasing polarity(petroleum ether, dichloromethane, chloroform, ethanol and water). The phenolic compositions, in terms of total phenolic content(TPC), total flavonoid content(TFC) and total condensed tannin content(TTC), were evaluated with the Folin–Ciocalteu assay, aluminum chloride colorimetric assay and vanillin spectrophotometric assay, respectively. Total antioxidant capacity, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,20-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) assays were used to assess the antioxidant potential of each extract. A protein denaturation model and 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay were used to evaluate in vitro anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities, respectively. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC/MS) analysis was carried out to demonstrate various phytoconstituents in each extract. Correlation studies were also performed between phenolic composition(TPC, TFC and TTC) and different biological activities.Results: Ethanol extract showed maximum TPC(0.126 mg/g, gallic acid equivalent in dry sample), TFC(0.094 mg/g, rutin equivalent in dry sample) and TTC(29.32 mg/g, catechin equivalent in dry sample),as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Chloroform extract exhibited the strongest cytotoxicity against the human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. GC/MS analysis revealed the presence of 90 different phytoconstituents among the extracts. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities had a positive correlation with TPC, TFC and TTC. However, the anticancer activity showed a negative correlation with TPC, TFC and TTC.Conclusion: From the present study, it can be concluded that P. verticillatum possessed remarkable antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities, which could be due to different secondary metabolites of the plant. Phenolic compounds are likely responsible for antioxidant and antiinflammatory activities. 12Identification and quantitative estimation of Emodin in Rhei Emodi Wall.Rhizome and the relevant polyherbal ayurvedic formulation显示文摘The present study explored quality control of plant drug and polyherbal formulation using HPTLC and HPLC fingerprinting.The study combined qualitative analysis of Emodin and Rhein biomarker compound in Rhei Emodi Wall.rhizome extract and polyherbal formulation extract by HPTLC method with quantitative estimation of Emodin by HPLC method,aiming to help in accurate identification of Emodin and Rhein in plant materials,polyherbal formulations.This study also checked adulteration,with the purpose of improving bio-efficacy of ayurvedic formulation.All the samples showed characteristic peaks of Emodin at same retention time as that of standard Emodin.According to the HPTLC fingerprinting results,the Rf values of Rhein reference standard at 0.42 and Emodin at 0.62 were observed in test solution of Rhei emodi Wall.rhizome extract and polyherbal formulation extract and both were found comparable.The quantitative evaluation of Emodin present in the polyherbal formulation and Rhei emodi Wall.rhizome extracts were 0.0177% and 0.3106% respectively.Ajay Kumar Meena R.Ilavarasan Arjun Singh Lavkush Sharma Amit Dixit N.Srikanth 2021Asian Journal of Traditional Medicines2021,16,6:0
13Understanding human-leopard conflict in the ‘Mid-hill’ region of western Nepal显示文摘Livestock rearing and agriculture are the main sources of community-based livelihoods in western Nepal.Across the rural mid-hills region of Gandaki Province,leopards are the top predator and frequently depredate livestock and attack humans.Spatiotemporal patterns of human-leopard conflicts(HLC) in Nepal are poorly known at the provincial and national scales,which are essential to formulating effective conflict mitigation strategies and implementing them in the field.This study aims to analyze the spatiotemporal pattern of HLC by applying Maxent modeling to covariates relating to known and registered conflict cases(n=842) collected from Nepalese government offices.We found that cases of HLC have been increasing significantly over the past five years.We also concluded that mid-elevation,south-facing slopes were more susceptible to HLC,but that mean annual temperature was by far the most important predictor of HLC;overall livestock density and proximity to roads were also important,but secondarily so.Although we found the increase in human fatalities to 2.16/year was significant(p<0.05),overall human injuries were down slightly,though not significantly(5.16/year;p>0.05).However,we also found an increasing trend in livestock depredation rates for this same five-year period(p<0.05),which averaged 159.6 head/year among incidents reported.We also found that winter was the main season when depredations occurred,and that goats were the most depredated of all livestock.A total US $86,892.25($17,378.45/year) of economic losses were incurred by communities during this time,with 78.57% of the total value reimbursed as compensatory relief through the government’s relief fund.We recommend that the use of predator-proof livestock corrals,greater awareness in local communities about wildlife behavior,better animal husbandry and security practices,and a more efficient compensation program,can improve coexistence between leopard populations and human communities in western Nepal.LAMICHHANE Saroj THAPA Arjun THAPA Mahendra Singh PANTHI Saroj GIORDANO Anthony J 2023Journal of Mountain Science2023,20,12:0
14Key molecules of Mucorales for COVID-19-associated mucormycosis:a narrative review显示文摘Mucormycosis is a lethal human disease caused by fungi of the order Mucorales.Mucormycosis is caused by fungi mainly belonging to the genera Mucor,Rhizopus,and Lichtheimia,all of which belong to the order Mucorales.The number of individuals with mucormycosis-causing disorders has increased in recent years,hence,leading to the spread of mucormycosis.Throughout the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,numerous cases of mucormycosis in COVID-19-infected patients have been reported worldwide,and the illness is now recognized as COVID-19-associated mucormycosis,with most of the cases being reported from India.Immunocompromised patients such as those with bone marrow sickness and uncontrolled diabetes are at a greater risk of developing mucormycosis.Genes,pathways,and other mechanisms have been studied in Mucorales,demonstrating a direct link between virulence and prospective therapeutic and diagnostic targets.This review discusses several proteins such as high-affinity iron permease(FTR1),calcineurin,spore coat protein(CotH),and ADP-ribosylation factors involved in the pathogenesis of mucormycosis that might prove to be viable target(s)for the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic methods.Priyanka Baberwal Arjun Singh Abhinav Adarsh Yatender Kumar 2022Journal of Bio-X Research2022,5,3:0
