1Ecological response to the climate change on the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang显示文摘The Tianshan Mountains is a high and huge mountain body lying across the central part of Xinjiang, China, and is also the main area where the runoff forms in Xinjiang. In this paper, a set of RS-based study methods is put forward for deriving the information about the natural change of the ecology in arid areas, and the relationship between the climate change trend and the corresponding ecological response on the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains since recent 40 years is analyzed from the scales of the land cover ecosystems and landscapes based on the observed data of climate, hydrology, modern glaciers and lakes on the northern slopes of the Tianshan Mountains since recent 40 years and the satellite RS data since recent 10 years by using the RS and GIS technologies. The results are as follows: (1) The overall trend of climate change on the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains since recent 40 years is that both air temperature and precipitation are increased, especially the increase amplitudes of air tempera-ture, precipitation and annual runoff volume are high since the decade of the 1990s; (2) the in-tegrated indexes of the vegetation in all the geographical divisions on the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains are obviously increased since recent 10 years, especially in the artificial oases and the foothill belts, such a change trend is advantageous for improving the vegetation ecology; and (3) the vegetation ecology in the arid areas is extremely sensitive to the climate change, the vegetation coverage and the biomass on the northern slope of the Tianshan Moun-tains are continuously increased because of the climate change since recent 10 years, their in-crease amplitudes in the plains and during the late stage are obviously higher than that in the mountainous regions and during the early stage.CHEN Xi1, LUO Geping1, XIA Jun2, ZHOU Kefa1, LOU Shaoping3 & YE Minquan4 1. 2Metabolic bone disease in the preterm infant: Current state and future directions显示文摘Neonatal osteopenia is an important area of interest for neonatologists due to continuing increased survival of preterm infants. It can occur in high-risk infants such as preterm infants, infants on long-term diuretics or corticosteroids, and those with neuromuscular disorders. Complications such as rickets, pathological fractures, impaired respiratory function and poor growth in childhood can develop and may be the first clinical evidence of the condition. It is important for neonatologists managing such high-risk patients to regularly monitor biochemical markers for evidence of abnormal bone turnover and inadequate mineral intake in order to detect the early phases of impaired bone mineralization. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry has become an increasingly used research tool for assessing bone mineral density in children and neonates, but more studies are still needed before it can be used as a useful clinical tool. 3Recent advances in nano scaffolds for bone repair显示文摘Biomedical applications of nanomaterials are exponentially increasing every year due to analogy to various cell receptors, ligands, structural proteins, and genetic materials(that is, DNA). In bone tissue, nanoscale materials can provide scaffold for excellent tissue repair via mechanical stimulation, releasing of various loaded drugs and mediators, 3D scaffold for cell growth and differentiation of bone marrow stem cells to osteocytes. 4Neolithic millet farmers contributed to the permanent settlement of the Tibetan Plateau by adopting barley agriculture显示文摘The permanent human settlement of the Tibetan Plateau(TP)has been suggested to have been facilitated by the introduction of barley agriculture^3.6 kilo-years ago(ka).However,how barley agriculture spread onto the TP remains unknown.Given that the lower altitudes in the northeastern TP were occupied by millet cultivators from 5.2 ka,who also adopted barley farming^4 ka,it is highly possible that it was millet farmers who brought barley agriculture onto the TP^3.6 ka.To test this hypothesis,we analyzed mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA)from 8277 Tibetans and 58514 individuals from surrounding populations,including 682 newly sequenced whole mitogenomes.Multiple lines of evidence,together with radiocarbon dating of cereal remains at different elevations,supports the scenario that two haplogroups(M9a1a1c1b1a and A11a1a),which are common in contemporary Tibetans(20.9%)and were probably even more common(40–50%)in early Tibetans prior to historical immigrations to the TP,represent the genetic legacy of the Neolithic millet farmers.Both haplogroups originated in northern China between 10.0–6.0 ka and differentiated in the ancestors of modern Tibetans^5.2–4.0 ka,matching the dispersal history of millet farming.By showing that substantial genetic components in contemporary Tibetans can trace their ancestry back to the Neolithic millet farmers,our study reveals that millet farmers adopted and brought barley agriculture to the TP^3.6–3.3 ka,and made an important contribution to the Tibetan gene pool.Yu-Chun Li Jiao-Yang Tian Feng-Wen Liu Bin-Yu Yang Kang-Shu-Yun Gu Zia Ur Rahman Li-Qin Yang Fa-Hu Chen Guang-Hui Dong Qing-Peng Kong 2019National Science Review2019,6,5:15

6Estrogen receptors in gastric cancer:Advances and perspectives显示文摘Worldwide, gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies with high mortality. Various aspects of thedevelopment and progression of gastric cancer continue to be extensively investigated in order to further our understanding and provide more effective means for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease. Estrogen receptors(ERs) are steroid hormone receptors that regulate cellular activities in many physiological and pathological processes in different tissues. There are two distinct forms of ERs, namely ERα and ERβ, with several alternative-splicing isoforms for each. They show distinct tissue distribution patterns and exert different biological functions. Dysregulation of ERs has been found to be associated closely with many diseases, including cancer. A number of studies have been conducted to investigate the role of ERs in gastric cancer, the possible mechanisms underlying these roles, and the clinical relevance of deregulated ERs in gastric cancer patients. To date, inconsistent associations of different ERs with gastric cancer have been reported. These inconsistencies may be caused by variations in in vitro cell models and clinical samples, including assay conditions and protocols with regard to different forms of ERs. Given the potential of the deregulated ERs as diagnostic/prognostic markers or therapeutic targets for gastric cancer, it will be important to identify/confirm the association of each ER isoform with gastric cancer, to determine the specific roles and interactions that these individual ER isoforms play under specific conditions in the development and/or progression of gastric cancer, and to elucidate precisely these mechanisms. In this review, we summarize the achievements from early ER studies in gastric cancer to the most up-to-date discoveries, with an effort to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of ERs roles in gastric cancer and its possible mechanisms. 7Serum positive cagA in patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia and peptic ulcer disease from two centers in different regions of Turkey显示文摘AIM: To investigate and compare frequencies of serum positive cagA in patients from two separate regions of Turkey who were grouped according to the presence of peptic ulcer disease or non-ulcer dyspepsia.METHODS: One hundred and eighty Helicobacter pyloripositive patients with peptic ulcer disease or non-ulcer dyspepsia were included in the study. One hundred and fourteen patients had non-ulcer dyspepsia and 66 had peptic ulcer disease (32 with gastric ulcers and/or erosions and 34with duodenal ulcers). Each patient was tested for serum antibody to H. pylori cagA protein by enzyme immunoassay.RESULTS: The total frequency of serum positive cagA in the study group was 97.2 %. The rates in the patients with peptic ulcers and in those with non-ulcer dyspepsia were 100% and 95.6%, respectively. These results were similar to those reported in Asian studies, but higher than those that have been noted in other studies from Turkey and Western countries.CONCLUSION: The high rates of serum positive cagA in these patients with peptic ulcer disease and non-ulcer dyspepsia were similar to results reported in Asia. 8Impact of Synchronous Condenser on the Dynamic Behavior of LCC-based UHVDC System Hierarchically Connected to AC System显示文摘Hierarchical connection(HC)is a very attractive mode for±800 kV line commutated converter based ultra high voltage direct current(LCC-UHVDC)system connected to different AC voltage levels because of its ability to reduce the scale factor of a converter transformer.Faults in the HC-UHVDC system can cause commutation failure(CF).In this paper,impact of synchronous condenser(SC)to mitigate CF in HC-UHVDC system is analyzed.A±800KV HC-UHVDC system along with synchronous condenser is built in PSCAD/EMTDC.Transient performance analysis of HC-UHVDC for single and three phase to ground faults is investigated.Commutation failure immunity index(CFII),commutation failure probability index(CFPI),fault recovery time(FRT),and transient overvoltage(TOV)are used as measures to evaluate the effects of SC at HC-UHVDC system design.The simulation results show that SC can make the HCUHVDC system less susceptible to CF,effectively improve fault recovery performances of the overall system,and reduce transient overvoltage when single or multiple converters are blocked.The results of this research can provide technical assistance in real world HC-UHVDC projects.Ali Aamir Li Qiao Chunyi Guo Atiq Ur Rehman Zhizhong Yang 2019CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2019,5,2:9
9Investigation of ZrO2 nanoparticles concentration and processing time effect on the localized PEO coatings formed on AZ91 alloy显示文摘AZ91 Mg alloy was treated through a new localized PEO(Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation)coating approach,using electrolyte solutions with varying ZrO2 nanoparticles concentration(2-8 g/L)and processing times.With increase in the ZrO2 concentration,several microstructural changes were observed including;formation of cluster-type structure,damage to the inner layers(∼30 min)and sealing of defects.Corrosion analysis of the final coatings was carried out using potentiodynamic polarization,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and post-corrosion analysis.It was explored that highest corrosion resistance(Rp∼81.17 kΩcm^2)of the coatings was obtained for ZrO2∼2 g/L.However,higher concentration of the ZrO2 nanoparticles caused weak crystalline coating structure,due to unstable and lower intensity discharges,thus failed to offer high corrosion resistance performance.Zeeshan Ur Rehman Dongjin Choi 2019Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,4:9

12Transfer of Heavy Metals from Soils to Vegetables and Associated Human Health Risks at Selected Sites in Pakistan显示文摘Contamination of the food chain with heavy metals is considered as one of the major environmental pathways of human exposure to metals leading to potential health risks. This study aimed to investigate the concentrations of heavy metals such as copper(Cu),zinc(Zn), chromium(Cr), nickel(Ni), and manganese(Mn) in agricultural soils and food crops(fruit, leaf, and root vegetables), and their associated health risks to the local population in selected southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan. The concentrations of the selected metals in soil varied over a wide range, in the following decreasing order: Mn > Zn > Cr > Ni > Cu.The bioaccumulation of metals in vegetables was within the permissible risk limits, except for Cr which showed higher contamination in all the tested food crops. The trend of metal transfer factors for different vegetables was in the order of Cu > Ni > Cr > Mn >Zn, while the calculated daily intake of metals(DIM) in adults and children through consumption of food crops was in the decreasing order of Mn > Zn > Ni > Cr > Cu. The health risk index(HRI) values for the heavy metals for both adults and children were less than 1. 13Dynamics and Small Signal Stability Analysis of PMSG-based Wind Farm with an MMC-HVDC System显示文摘The permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based wind farm with a modular multilevel converter (MMC) based HVDC system exhibits various oscillations and can experience dynamic instability due to the interactions between different controllers of the wind farm and MMC stations, which have not been properly examined in the existing literatures. This paper presents a dynamic modeling approach for small signal stability analysis of PMSG-based wind farms with a MMC- HVDC system. The small signal model of the study system is validated by the comprehensive electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC. Then the eigenvalue approach and participation factors analysis are utilized to comprehensively evaluate the impact of different controllers, system’s parameters and the circulating current suppressing controller (CCSC) on the small signal stability of the entire system. From eigenvalue analysis, it is revealed that as the output active power of the wind farm increases within the rated range, the overall system will exhibit a sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) instability mode, an extremely weak damping mode, and a low frequency oscillation instability mode. From participation factors analysis, it is observed that the SSO mode and weak damping mode are primarily related to the internal dynamics of the MMC, which can be suppressed or improved by CCSC. It is determined that the low frequency oscillation mode is primarily caused by the interactions between the phase locked loop (PLL) control of the wind farm and the voltage and frequency (V-F) control of the MMC station. 14Pancreatic necrosis:Complications and changing trend of treatment显示文摘Incidence of acute pancreatitis seems to be increasing in the Western countries and has been associated with significantly increased morbidity. Nearly 80% of the patients with acute pancreatitis undergo resolution; some develop complications including pancreatic necrosis. Infection of pancreatic necrosis is the leading cause of death in these patients. A significant portion of these patients needs surgical interventions. Traditionally, the 'gold standard' procedure has been the open surgical necrosectomy, which is now being completed by the relatively lesser invasive interventions. Minimally invasive surgical(MIS) procedures include endoscopic drainage, percutaneous image-guided catheter drainage, and retroperitoneal drainage. 17Influence of Seed Priming on Performance and Water Productivity of Direct Seeded Rice in Alternating Wetting and Drying显示文摘Direct seeded rice is promising alternative to traditional transplanting, but requires appropriate crop and water management to maintain yield performance and achieve high water productivity. Present study evaluated the effect of seed priming and irrigation on crop establishment, tillering, agronomic traits, paddy yield, grain quality and water productivity of direct seeded rice in alternate wetting and drying(DSR-AWD) in comparison with direct seeded rice at field capacity(DSRFC). Seed priming treatments were osmo-priming with KCl(2.2%), Ca Cl2(2.2%) and moringa leaf extracts(MLE, 3.3%) including hydro-priming as control. Among the treatments, seed osmo-primed with MLE emerged earlier and had higher final emergence, followed by osmo-priming with Ca Cl2. Tillering emergence rate and number of tillers per plant were the highest for seed priming with Ca Cl2 in DSRAWD. Total productive and non-productive tillers, panicle length, biological and grain yields, harvest index were highest for seed priming with MLE or Ca Cl2 in DSR-AWD. Similarly, grain quality, estimated in terms of normal grains, abortive and chalky grains, was also the highest in DSR-AWD with MLE osmo-priming. Benefit cost ratio and water productivity was also the highest in DSR-AWD for seed priming with MLE. 20Landslide mapping and analysis along the China-Pakistan Karakoram Highway based on SBAS-InSAR detection in 2017显示文摘The Karakoram Highway(KKH),a part of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC),is a major highway connecting northern Pakistan to China.The inventorying and analysis of landslides along KKH are challenging because of poor accessibility,vast study area,limited availability of ground-based datasets,and the complexity of landslide processes in the region.In order to preserve life,property,and infrastructure,and to enable the uninterrupted and efficient operation of the KKH,it is essential to strengthen measures for the prevention and control of geological disasters.In the present study,SBASInSAR(Small Baseline Subsets-Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar)was used to process 150 scenes of Sentinel 1-A images in the year 2017 along the Karakoram Highway.A total of 762 landslides,including 57 complex landslides,126 rock falls,167 debris slides,and 412 unstable slopes,ranging in size between 0.0017 and 10.63 km2 were identified.Moreover,this study also gains an inventory of 40 active glacier movements in this region.Landslide categorization,displacements characteristics,spatial distribution,and their relationship with various contributing factors have been successfully investigated along the entire KKH using image interpretation and frequency-area statistics.The criteria adopted for landslides categorization is presented in the study.The results showed that the 2-D ground deformation derived in Hunza valley echoes well with the general regional landslides characteristics.The spatial distribution analysis revealed that there are clumped distributions of landslides in the Gaizi,Tashkurgan,and Khunjerab in China,as well as in Hunza valley,and north of Chilas city in Pakistan.Statistical results indicated that these landslides mainly occur on south-facing slopes with a slope angle of 20°–45°and elevation relief of 550–2,100 m.Landslide development is also related to low vegetation cover and weathering effects in mountain gullies.Overall,our study provides scientific data support and theoretical references for prevention,control,and mitigation of geological disasters in the Karakoram region.SU Xiao-jun ZHANG Yi MENG Xing-min YUE Dong-xia MA Jin-hui GUO Fu-yun ZHOU Zi-qiang REHMAN Mohib Ur KHALID Zainab CHEN Guan ZENG Run-qiang ZHAO Fu-meng 2021Journal of Mountain Science2021,18,10:4
