2Differing profiles of people diagnosed with acute and chronic hepatitis B virus infection in British Columbia,Canada显示文摘AIM To describe the characteristics of people diagnosed with acute and chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection in British Columbia(BC).METHODS We used data from the BC Hepatitis Testers Cohort(BCHTC),which includes all individuals tested for hepatitis C virus(HCV) or human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) or those diagnosed with HBV or active tuberculosis in BC since 1990.These data were integrated with prescription drug,medical visit,hospitalization and mortality data.HBV cases were classified as acute or chronic according to provincial guidelines.We compared characteristics of individuals by HBV infection group(acute,chronic and negative).Factors associated with acute or chronic HBV infection were assessed with multinomial logistic regression models in comparison to the HBV negative group.RESULTS46498 of the 1058056 eligible BC-HTC participants were diagnosed with HBV infection.4.3% of HBV positive individuals were diagnosed with acute HBV infections while 95.7% had chronic infections.Problematic alcohol use,injection drug use,and HIV or HCV co-infection were more common among individuals diagnosed with acute HBV compared to those with chronic infections and HBV negative individuals.In multivariable multinomial logistic regression models,we observed significant associations between acute or chronic HBV diagnosis and being male,age at HBV diagnosis or birth cohort,South and East Asian ethnicity,HCV or HIV infection,and injection drug use.The odds of acute HBV decreased with increasing age among people who inject drugs,while the opposite was true for chronic HBV.Persons with acute HBV were predominantly White(78%) while those with chronic HBV were mostly East Asian(60%).Relative to Whites,East Asians had 12 times greater odds of being diagnosed with chronic HBV infection.These odds increased with increasing socioeconomic deprivation.CONCLUSION Differences in the profiles of people diagnosed with acute and chronic HBV infection necessitate differentiated screening,prevention,care and treatment programs.Mawuena Binka Zahid A Butt Stanley Wong Mei Chong Jane A Buxton Nuria Chapinal Amanda Yu Maria Alvarez Maryam Darvishian Jason Wong Gina McGowan Mikhail Torban Mark Gilbert Mark Tyndall Mel Krajden Naveed Z Janjua 2018World Journal of Gastroenterology2018,24,11:3
3High-quality reference genome and annotation aids understanding of berry development for evergreen blueberry(Vaccinium darrowii)显示文摘Vaccinium darrowii Camp(2 n=2×=24)is a native North American blueberry species and an important source oftraits such as low chill requirement in commercial southern highbush blueberry breeding(Vaccinium coymbosum,2n=4 ×=48).We present a chromosomal-scale genome of V.darrowii generated by the combination of PacBio sequencing and high throughput chromatin conformation capture(Hi-C)scaffolding technologies,yielding a total length of 1.06 Gigabases(Gb).Over 97.8%of the genome sequences are scaffolded into 24 chromosomes representing the two haplotypes.The primary haplotype assembly of V,darrowii contains 34,809 protein-coding genes.Comparison to a V.corymbosum haplotype assembly reveals high collinearity between the two genomes with small intrachromosomal rearrangements in eight chromosome pairs.With small RNA sequencing,the annotation was further expanded to include more than 200,000 small RNA loci and 638 microRNAs expressed in berry tissues.Transcriptome analysis across fruit development stages indicates that genes involved in photosynthesis are downregulated,while genes involved in flavonoid and anthocyanin biosynthesis are signi ficantly increased at the late stage of berry ripening.A high-quality reference genome and accompanying annotation of V.darrowii is a signi ficant new resource for assessing the evergreen blueberry contribution to the breeding of southern highbush blueberries.Jiali Yu Amanda M.Hulse-Kemp Ebrahiem Babiker Margaret Staton 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:2

9Self-organization of various“phase-separated”nanostructures in a single chemical vapor deposition显示文摘Chemical vapor deposition(CVD)is one of the most versatile techniques for the controlled synthesis of functional nanomaterials.When multiple precursors are induced,the CVD process often gives rise to the growth of doped or alloy compounds.In this work,we demonstrate the self-assembly of a variety of‘phase-separated’functional nanostructures from a single CVD in the presence of various precursors.In specific,with silicon substrate and powder of Mn and SnTe as precursors,we achieved self-organized nanostructures including Si/SiOx core-shell nanowire heterostructures both with and without embedded manganese silicide particles,Mn11Si19 nanowires,and SnTe nanoplates.The Si/SiOx core-shell nanowires embedded with manganese silicide particles were grown along the<111>direction of the crystalline Si via an Au-catalyzed vapor-liquid-solid process,in which the Si and Mn vapors were supplied from the heated silicon substrates and Mn powder,respectively.In contrast,direct vapor-solid deposition led to particle-free<110>-oriented Si/SiOx core-shell nanowires and<100>-oriented Mn11Si19 nanowires,a promising thermoelectric material.No Sn or Te impurities were detected in these nanostructures down to the experimental limit.Topological crystalline insulator SnTe nanoplates with dominant{100}and{111}facets were found to be free of Mn(and Si)impurities,although nanoparticles and nanowires containing Mn were found in the vicinity of the nanoplates.While multiple-channel transport was observed in the SnTe nanoplates,it may not be related to the topological surface states due to surface oxidation.Finally,we carried out thermodynamic analysis and density functional theory calculations to understand the‘phase-separation’phenomenon and further discuss general approaches to grow phase-pure samples when the precursors contain residual impurities.Jinmei Wang Dongyue Xie Zhen Li Xiaohang Zhang Xing Sun Amanda L.Coughlin Thomas Ruch Qiang Chen Yaroslav Losovyj Seunghun Lee Heshan Yu Haidong Zhou Haiyan Wang Jian Wang Shixiong Zhang 2020Nano Research2020,13,6:0
