| 1 | Terrestrial carbon sinks in China and around the world and their contribution to carbon neutrality显示文摘Enhancing the terrestrial ecosystem carbon sink(referred to as terrestrial C sink) is an important way to slow down the continuous increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO_(2)) concentration and to achieve carbon neutrality target.To better understand the characteristics of terrestrial C sinks and their contribution to carbon neutrality,this review summarizes major progress in terrestrial C budget researches during the past decades,clarifies spatial patterns and drivers of terrestrial C sources and sinks in China and around the world,and examines the role of terrestrial C sinks in achieving carbon neutrality target.According to recent studies,the global terrestrial C sink has been increasing from a source of (-0.2±0.9) Pg C yr^(-1)(1 Pg=1015g)in the 1960s to a sink of (1.9±1.1) Pg C yr^(-1) in the 2010s.By synthesizing the published data,we estimate terrestrial C sink of 0.20–0.25 Pg C yr^(-1) in China during the past decades,and predict it to be 0.15–0.52 Pg C yr^(-1) by 2060.The terrestrial C sinks are mainly located in the mid-and high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere,while tropical regions act as a weak C sink or source.The C balance differs much among ecosystem types:forest is the major C sink;shrubland,wetland and farmland soil act as C sinks;and whether the grassland functions as C sink or source remains unclear.Desert might be a C sink,but the magnitude and the associated mechanisms are still controversial.Elevated atmospheric CO_(2) concentration,nitrogen deposition,climate change,and land cover change are the main drivers of terrestrial C sinks,while other factors such as fires and aerosols would also affect ecosystem C balance.The driving factors of terrestrial C sink differ among regions.Elevated CO_(2) concentration and climate change are major drivers of the C sinks in North America and Europe,while afforestation and ecological restoration are additionally important forcing factors of terrestrial C sinks in China.For future studies,we recommend the necessity for intensive and long-term ecosystem C monitoring over broad geographic scale to improve terrestrial biosphere models for accurately evaluating terrestrial C budget and its dynamics under various climate change and policy scenarios. | Yuanhe Yang Yue Shi Wenjuan Sun Jinfeng Chang Jianxiao Zhu Leiyi Chen Xin Wang Yanpei Guo Hongtu Zhang Lingfei Yu Shuqing Zhao Kang Xu Jiangling Zhu Haihua Shen Yuanyuan Wang Yunfeng Peng Xia Zhao Xiangping Wang Huifeng Hu Shiping Chen Mei Huang Xuefa Wen Shaopeng Wang Biao Zhu Shuli Niu Zhiyao Tang Lingli Liu Jingyun Fang | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,5: | 32 |
| 2 | Recent progress in 2D materials for flexible supercapacitors显示文摘High performance supercapacitors coupled with mechanical flexibility are needed to drive flexible and wearable electronics that have anesthetic appeal and multi-functionality. Two dimensional(2D) materials have attracted attention owing to their unique physicochemical and electrochemical properties, in addition to their ability to form hetero-structures with other nanomaterials further improving mechanical and electrochemical properties. After a brief introduction of supercapacitors and 2D materials, recent progress on flexible supercapacitors using 2D materials is reviewed. Here we provide insights into the structure–property relationships of flexible electrodes, in particular free-standing films. | 3 | Deformation and stress distribution of the human foot after plantar ligaments release:A cadaveric study and finite element analysis显示文摘The majority of foot deformities are related to arch collapse or instability,especially the longitudinal arch.Although the relationship between the plantar fascia and arch height has been previously investigated,the stress distribution remains unclear.The aim of this study was to explore the role of the plantar ligaments in foot arch biomechanics.We constructed a geometrical detailed three-dimensional (3-D) finite element (FE) model of the human foot and ankle from computer tomography images.The model comprised the majority of joints in the foot as well as bone segments,major ligaments,and plantar soft tissue.Release of the plantar fascia and other ligaments was simulated to evaluate the corresponding biomechanical effects on load distribution of the bony and ligamentous structures.These intrinsic ligaments of the foot arch were sectioned to simulate different pathologic situations of injury to the plantar ligaments,and to explore bone segment displacement and stress distribution.The validity of the 3-D FE model was verified by comparing results with experimentally measured data via the displacement and von Mise stress of each bone segment.Plantar fascia release decreased arch height,but did not cause total collapse of the foot arch.The longitudinal foot arch was lost when all the four major plantar ligaments were sectioned simultaneously.Plantar fascia release was compromised by increased strain applied to the plantar ligaments and intensified stress in the midfoot and metatarsal bones.Load redistribution among the centralized metatarsal bones and focal stress relief at the calcaneal insertion were predicted.The 3-D FE model indicated that plantar fascia release may provide relief of focal stress and associated heel pain.However,these operative procedures may pose a risk to arch stability and clinically may produce dorsolateral midfoot pain.The initial strategy for treating plantar fasciitis should be non-operative. | LIANG Jun YANG YunFeng YU GuangRong NIU WenXin WANG YuBin | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,3: | 8 |
| 4 | Impact of environmental factors on water quality at multiple spatial scales and its spatial variation in Huai River Basin, China显示文摘Quantitative assessment of water quality and its spatial variation identification, as well as the discernment of primary factors affecting water quality are in its urgent in water environment management. In this study, four key water quality indicators,namely, ammonia nitrogen(NH_4^+-N), permanganate index(COD_(Mn)), total phosphorus(TP) and total nitrogen(TN) at 71 sampling sites were selected to evaluate water quality and its spatial variation identification. More concerns were emphasized on the anthropogenic factors(land use pattern) and natural factors(river density, elevation and precipitation) to quantify the overall water quality variations at different spatial scales. Results showed that the Yi-Shu-Si River sub-basin had a better water quality status than the Huai River sub-basin. The moderate polluted area nearly distributed in the upper and middle reaches of the Shaying River and Guo River. The high cluster centers which were surrounded with COD_(Mn), NH_4^+-N, TN and TP mainly also distributed in the upper and middle reaches of the Shaying River and Guo River. Redundancy analysis showed that the 200 m buffer area acted as the most sensitive area, which was easily subjected to pollution. The precipitation was identified as the most important variables among all the studied hydrological units, followed by farmland, urban land or elevation. The point source pollution was still existed although the non-point source pollution was also identified. The urban surface runoff pollution was severer than farmland fertilizer loss at the sub-basin scale in flood season, while the farmland showed 'small-scale' effects for explaining overall water quality variations. | 5 | Highly efficient Cu/anatase TiO2 {001}-nanosheets catalysts for methanol synthesis from CO2显示文摘Anatase TiO_2 nanosheets(-ns-) with dominant exposed {001} facets were used as support to load copper,and the synthesized Cu/TiO_2-ns catalysts were evaluated for CO_2 hydrogenation to methanol. Under the reaction conditions, P = 3.0 MPa, T = 260 ℃, V(N_2):V(H_2):V(CO_2) = 8:69:23 and gas hourly space velocity(GHSV) = 3600 mL g^(-1)h^(-1), the methanol yield reached an appealing high value, 5.6%. Copper-loading amount, calcination temperature and reduction atmosphere have been investigated in this work, which significantly influence the particle sizes of copper and/or the defect concentration in TiO_2, then leading to different catalytic performance. Characterizations of XRD, EPR, CO_2-TPD and FTIR demonstrate that higher specific surface area of Cu is good for the hydrogenation of CO_2 and adequate amount of Ti^(3+) plays important roles in CO_2 activation. To pursue the minimum coal consumption in the system, a dispatching model integrating combined-heat-and-power (CHP) plants and EBs in different locations is developed, and the penalty of wind power curtailment and cost of EB employment are also incorporated in the model. The transmission loss and transportation lag of heat-supply network as well as the elasticity of heat load are considered in this paper. A kind of constrained programming with stochastic and fuzzy parameters is applied to deal with the uncertainties. A case in East Inner Mongolia in China demonstrates that the EBs are able to absorb curtailed wind power and supply the heat.
