1Matrix metalloproteinases contribute to kidney fibrosis in chronic kidney diseases显示文摘Matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs) are members of the neutral proteinase family. They were previously thought to be anti-fibrotic because of their ability to degrade and remodel of extracellular matrix. However, recent studies have shown that MMPs are implicated in initiation and progression of kidney fibrosis through tubular cell epithelial–mesenchymal transition(EMT) as well as activation of resident fibroblasts, endothelial-mesenchymal transition(Endo MT) and pericyte-myofibroblast transdifferentiation. Interstitial macrophage infiltration has also been shown to correlate with the severity of kidney fibrosis in various chronic kidney diseases. MMPs secreted by macrophages, especially MMP-9, hasbeen shown by us to be profibrotic by induction of tubular cells EMT. EMT is mainly induced by transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β). However, MMP-9 was found by us and others to be up-regulated by TGF-β1 in kidney tubular epithelial cells and secreted by activated macrophages, resulting in EMT and ultimately kidney fibrosis. Therefore, MMP-9 may serve as a potential therapeutic target to prevent kidney fibrosis in chronic kidney disease. 3PINK1 kinase dysfunction triggers neurodegeneration in the primate brain without impacting mitochondrial homeostasis显示文摘In vitro studies have established the prevalent theory that the mitochondrial kinase PINK1 protects neurodegeneration by removing damaged mitochondria in Parkinson's disease(PD).However,difficulty in detecting endogenous PINK1 protein in rodent brains and cell lines has prevented the rigorous investigation of the in vivo role of PINK1.Here we report that PINK1 kinase form is selectively expressed in the human and monkey brains.CRISPR/Cas9-mediated deficiency of PINK1 causes similar neurodegeneration in the brains of fetal and adult monkeys as well as cultured monkey neurons without affecting mitochondrial protein expression and morphology.Importantly,PINK1 mutations in the primate brain and human cells reduce protein phosphorylation that is important for neuronal function and survival.Our findings suggest that PINK1 kinase activity rather than its mitochondrial function is essential for the neuronal survival in the primate brains and that its kinase dysfunction could be involved in the pathogenesis of PD.Weili Yang Xiangyu Guo Zhuchi Tu Xiusheng Chen Rui Han Yanting Liu Sen Yan Qi Wang Zhifu Wang Xianxian Zhao Yunpeng Zhang Xin Xiong Huiming Yang Peng Yin Huida Wan Xingxing Chen Jifeng Guo Xiao-Xin Yan Lujian Liao Shihua Li Xiao-Jiang Li 2022Protein & Cell2022,13,1:3

5Effect of Different Sowing Dates in South Henan 's Rice-growing Areas on the Growth and Yield of Ratoon Rice显示文摘In order to determine the optimal sowing date of ratoon rice in South Henan's rice-growing areas,this paper performs a comparative analysis of rice growth process,seedling quality and yield of first season rice and ratoon rice under different sowing date treatments. The results show that under climatic conditions( 2014),by using dry seedling cultivation in a small plastic shed,the growth of seedling sown on February21 was affected,while the sowing treatments from March 1 to April 11 can breed normal seedlings,and in this period,the maturity period of first season rice was delayed with prolonged sowing date,and ratoon rice yield declined with prolonged sowing date( total production of rice sown on 11 March reaching a peak). 7Quantification,morphology and source of humic acid,kerogen and black carbon in offshore marine sediments from Xiamen Gulf,China显示文摘Three types of macromolecular organic matters (MOMs), i.e. humic acid (HA), kerogen+black carbon (KB), and black carbon (BC) were extracted from marine sediments of Xiamen Gulf, southeast of China. The chemical composition, morphological property and source of the three extractions were characterized by elemental analyzer/isotope ratio mass spectrometry (EA/IRMS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that KB was the predominant fraction in MOMs, which accounted for 61.79%-89.15% of the total organic content (TOC), while HA consisted less than 5%. The relative high contents of kerogen and BC, and low contents of HA in the samples indicated that anthropogenic input might be the major source of organic matter in marine sediments near the industrial regions. The characterization of SEM, not only revealed morphological properties of the three fractions, but also allowed a better understanding of the source of MOMs. The δ 13 C values of the three fractions suggested that materials from terrestrial C 3 plants were predominant. 8Hydrologic balance, net primary productivity and water use efficiency of the introduced exotic Eucalyptus grandis × Eucalyptus urophylla plantation in south-western China显示文摘Aims Land cover changes can disrupt water balance and alter the partitioning of precipitation into surface runoff,evapotranspiration and groundwater recharge.The widely planted Eucalyptus trees in south-western China have the potential to bring about hydrologic impacts.Our research aims to elucidate the hydrologic balance characteristics of the introduced exotic Eucalyptus grandis×Eucalyptus urophylla plantation and to assess whether its high productivity results from high water use efficiency(WUE)or large water consumption.Methods A 400-m^(2) experimental plot was established in an E.grandis×E.urophylla plantation in south-western China.Water balance components,including stand transpiration(T_(r)),evapotranspiration(E_(t))and runoff(R)were obtained as follows:T_(r) was estimated based on sap flow measurements,E_(t) was estimated as the average of surface transpiration and evaporation weighted by the fractional green vegetation cover using a modeling approach,and R was collected using the installed metal frame.Net primary productivity(NPP)was obtained from allometric equation and annual diameter at breast height(DBH)increment determination.Important Findings Annual E_(t) and T_(r) were 430±31 and 239±17 mm,respectively.Annual T_(r) accounts for 56±8%of total evapotranspiration on average.WUE(NPP/T_(r))of the E.grandis×E.urophylla was estimated to be 3.3–3.9 mmol·mol^(−1).Based on the comparative analysis of T_(r) and WUE,E.grandis×E.urophylla had a high productivity due to its high WUE without exhibiting prodigal water use.Meteorological factors including vapor pressure deficit and global solar radiation(R_(s))were key factors regulating E_(t) and T_(r) in our research site.Annual surface runoff,E_(t) and canopy interception occupied 7%,27–30%and 16%of total precipitation,while the remaining 46–50%of precipitation was used for sustaining groundwater recharge and altering soil water storage.The higher runoff coefficient(7.1%)indicated the weaker capability of E.grandis×E.urophylla to reserve water resource than natural forests and less disturbed plantations.The planting and protection of understory vegetation may decrease the surface runoff and exert beneficial effects on water conservation capacity of Eucalyptus plantation.Yanting Hu Ping Zhao Yuqing Huang Liwei Zhu Guangyan Ni Xiuhua Zhao Zhihong Huang 2019Journal of Plant Ecology2019,12,6:2
9Torsional optomechanical cooling of a nanofiber显示文摘We demonstrate the optomechanical cooling of a tapered optical nanofiber by coupling the polarization of light to the mechanical angular momentum of the system. The coupling is enabled by birefringence in the fiber and does not make use of an optical resonator. We find evidence for cooling in the distribution of thermally driven amplitude fluctuations and the noise spectrum of the torsional modes. 13Efficient bright γ-ray vortex emission from a laser-illuminated light-fan-in-channel target显示文摘X/γ-rays have many potential applications in laboratory astrophysics and particle physics.Although several methods have been proposed for generating electron,positron,and X/γ-photon beams with angular momentum(AM),the generation of ultra-intense brilliant γ-rays is still challenging.Here,we present an all-optical scheme to generate a high-energy γ-photon beam with large beam angular momentum(BAM),small divergence,and high brilliance.In the first stage,a circularly polarized laser pulse with intensity of 10^(22) W/cm^(2) irradiates a micro-channel target,drags out electrons from the channel wall,and accelerates them to high energies via the longitudinal electric fields.During the process,the laser transfers its spin angular momentum(SAM)to the electrons’orbital angular momentum(OAM).In the second stage,the drive pulse is reflected by the attached fan-foil and a vortex laser pulse is thus formed.In the third stage,the energetic electrons collide head-on with the reflected vortex pulse and transfer their AM to the γ-photons via nonlinear Compton scattering.Three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations show that the peak brilliance of the γ-ray beam is∼10^(22) photons·s^(-1)·mm^(-2)·mrad^(-2) per 0.1% bandwidth at 1 MeV with a peak instantaneous power of 25 TW and averaged BAM of 10^(6)h/photon.The AM conversion efficiency from laser to the γ-photons is unprecedentedly 0.67%.Hao Zhang Jie Zhao Yanting Hu Qianni Li Yu Lu Yue Cao Debin Zou Zhengming Sheng Francesco Pegoraro Paul McKenna Fuqiu Shao Tongpu Yu 2021High Power Laser Science and Engineering2021,9,3:1

19Distinctive electrochemical performance of novel Fe-based Li-rich cathode material prepared by molten salt method for lithium-ion batteries显示文摘For constructing next-generation lithium-ion batteries with advanced performances,pursuit of highcapacity Li-rich cathodes has caused considerable attention.So far,the low discharge specific capacity and serious capacity fading are strangling the development of Fe-based Li-rich materials.To activate the extra-capacity of Fe-based Li-rich cathode materials,a facile molten salt method is exploited using an alkaline mixture of LiOH–LiNO3–Li2O2 in this work.The prepared Li1.09(Fe0.2Ni0.3Mn0.5)0.91O2 material yields high discharge specific capacity and good cycling stability.The discharge specific capacity shows an upward tendency at 0.1 C.After 60 cycles,a high reversible specific capacity of ~250 m Ah g-1is delivered.The redox of Fe3+/Fe4+and Mn3+/Mn4+are gradually activated during cycling.Notably,the redox reaction of Fe2+/Fe3+can be observed reversibly below 2 V,which is quite different from the material prepared by a traditional co-precipitation method.The stable morphology of fine nanoparticles(100–300 nm)is considered benefiting for the distinctive electrochemical performances of Li1.09(Fe0.2Ni0.3Mn0.5)0.91O2.This study demonstrates that molten salt method is an inexpensive and effective approach to activate the extra capacity of Fe-based Li-rich cathode material for high-performance lithium-ion batteries.Taolin Zhao Rixin Ji Hedi Yang Yuxia Zhang Xiuguo Sun Yanting Li Li Li Renjie Chen 2019Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,6:1
