| 1 | Visible light-induced degradation of organic pollutants using Fe(II) supported on silica gel as an effective catalyst显示文摘Silica gel-supported Fe(II) (SiOFe) was prepared and used for heterogeneous degradation of sulforho-damine B (SRB) and 2,4-dichlorophenol (DCP) under visible irradiation (λ > 420 nm) as an effective catalyst. UVvisible spectra, and infrared Spectrophotometry (IR), fluorescence, total organic carbon (TOC) and electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements were employed to analyze the photoreaction products. The results showed that SRB could be efficiently degraded by SiOFe/H2O2 system under visible irradiation with 100% decolorization and 72.3% TOC removal after 180 min illumination. | 2 | Inflammasome activation in mouse inner ear in response to MCMV induced hearing loss显示文摘Objective: To identify presence of inflammasome activated in mouse cochlea with sensorineural hearing loss(SNHL) caused by cytomegalovirus(CMV) infection.Method: MCMV was injected into the right cerebral hemisphere in neonatal BALB/c mice at 2000 pfu virus titers. Auditory brainstem responses(ABRs) were tested to evaluate hearing at 21 days. Histopathological studies were conducted to confirm localizations of MCMV infected cells in the inner ear. Expression of inflammasome related factors was assessed by immunofluorescence, Quantitative real-time PCR and Western blotting.Results: In the mouse model of CMV induced SNHL, inflammasome related kinase Caspase-1 and downstream inflammatory factor IL-1b and IL-18 were found increased and activated after CMV infection in the cochlea. These factors could further up-regulate expression of IL-6 and TNFa. These inflammatory factors are neurotoxicity and may contribute to hearing impairment. Furthermore, we also detected significantly increased AIM2 protein that accumulated in the SGN of cochleae with CMV infection.Significance: We have shown that inflammasome as a novel inherent immunity mechanism may contribute to hearing impairment.Conclusion: Our data indicate that imflammasome assemble in mouse inner ear in response to CMV infection. We have revealed a novel pathology event in CMV induced SNHL involving activation of inflammasome in mouse cochlea. | 3 | Changes in soil microbial community response to precipitation events in a semi-arid steppe of the Xilin River Basin, China显示文摘In the context of climate change, precipitation is predicted to become more intense at the global scale. Such change may alter soil microbial communities and the microbially mediated carbon and nitrogen dynamics. In this study, we experimentally repackaged precipitation patterns during the growing season(from June to September) of 2012 in a semi-arid temperate steppe of the Xilin River Basin in Inner Mongolia of China, based on the 60-year growing season precipitation data. Specifically, a total amount of 240 mm simulated precipitation was assigned to experimental plots by taking the following treatments:(1) P6(6 extreme precipitation events, near the 1^(st) percentile);(2) P10(10 extreme precipitation events, near the 5^(th) percentile);(3) P16(16 moderate precipitation events, near the 50^(th) percentile); and(4) P24(24 events, 60-year average precipitation, near the 50^(th) percentile). At the end of the growing season, we analyzed soil microbial community structure and biomass, bacterial abundance, fungal abundance and bacterial composition, by using phospholipid fatty acid(PLFA), real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR) and 16S rRNA gene clone library methods. The extreme precipitation events did not change soil microbial community structure(represented by the ratio of PLFA concentration in fungi to PLFA concentration in bacteria, and the ratio of PLFA concentration in gram-positive bacterial biomass to PLFA concentration in gram-negative bacterial biomass). However, the extreme precipitation events significantly increased soil microbial activity(represented by soil microbial biomass nitrogen and soil bacterial 16S rRNA gene copy numbers). Soil fungal community showed no significant response to precipitation events. According to the redundancy analysis, both soil microbial biomass nitrogen and soil ammonium nitrogen(NH_4-N) were found to be significant in shaping soil microbial community. Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria and Proteobacteria were the dominant phyla in soil bacterial composition, and responded differently to the extreme precipitation events. | 4 | Diversity of culturable heterotrophic bacteria from the Mariana Trench and their ability to degrade macromolecules显示文摘The Mariana Trench is the deepest location on earth and harbors unique microbial communities as evidenced by 16S rRNA gene amplicon and metagenomic sequencing.Obtaining culturable microorganisms from the Mariana Trench will contribute to a further understanding of hadal biogeochemical processes and act as a unique microbial reservoir with potential applications.Here,825 bacterial strains,identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing,were isolated from 12 water depths(0-10,400 m)of the Mariana Trench with 2216E and R2A media at 4℃ or 28℃ on four cruises during 2015-2017.These bacteria belong to four phyla,nine classes,27 orders,45 families and 108 genera.Alphaproteobacteria,Gammaproteobacteria,Actinobacteria_c,Bacilli and Flavobacteriia were the most abundant classes,accounting for 37.9%,33.0%,11.8%,8.6%and 8.0%of the total bacterial isolates,respectively.2216E and R2A media were found to have a better selectivity to Bacilli and Flavobacteriia,respectively.Fifty strains were potential novel bacterial species with a 16S rRNA gene similarity<98.65%,and a higher percentage of novel strains were obtained from R2A than 2216E medium.Additionally,301(150 species)out of 354 strains(178 species)selected from each depth could degrade at least one of the ten kinds of macromolecules tested.These results indicate that there is a high diversity of culturable bacteria in the Mariana Trench and they can produce a variety of extracellular enzymes.Our study provides a valuable resource of microorganisms for investigating their biogeochemical roles in the Mariana Trench and for industrial applications. | Xiuxiu Zhao Jiwen Liu Shun Zhou Yanfen Zheng Yanhong Wu Kazuhiro Kogure Xiao-Hua Zhang | 2020 | Marine Life Science & Technology2020,2,2: | 5 |

| 7 | Response of PM_(2.5)-bound elemental species to emission variations and associated health risk assessment during the COVID-19 pandemic in a coastal megacity显示文摘The coronavirus(COVID-19)pandemic is disrupting the world from many aspects.In this study,the impact of emission variations on PM_(2.5)-bound elemental species and health risks associated to inhalation exposure has been analyzed based on real-time measurements at a remote coastal site in Shanghai during the pandemic.Most trace elemental species decreased significantly and displayed almost no diel peaks during the lockdown.After the lockdown,they rebounded rapidly,of which V and Ni even exceeded the levels before the lockdown,suggesting the recovery of both inland and shipping activities.Five sources were identified based on receptor modeling.Coal combustion accounted for more than 70%of the measured elemental concentrations before and during the lockdown.Shipping emissions,fugitive/mineral dust,and waste incineration all showed elevated contributions after the lockdown.The total non-carcinogenic risk(HQ)for the target elements exceeded the risk threshold for both children and adults with chloride as the predominant species contributing to HQ.Whereas,the total carcinogenic risk(TR)for adults was above the acceptable level and much higher than that for children.Waste incineration was the largest contributor to HQ,while manufacture processing and coal combustion were the main sources of TR.Lockdown control measures were beneficial for lowering the carcinogenic risk while unexpectedly increased the non-carcinogenic risk.From the perspective of health effects,priorities of control measures should be given to waste incineration,manufacture processing,and coal combustion.A balanced way should be reached between both lowering the levels of air pollutants and their health risks. | Guochen Wang Kan Huang Qingyan Fu Jia Chen Juntao Huo Qianbiao Zhao Yusen Duan Yanfen Lin Fan Yang Wenjie Zhang Hao Li Jian Xu Xiaofei Qin Na Zhao Congrui Deng | 2022 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,12: | 2 |

| 11 | Effect of arotinolol on right ventricular function in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy显示文摘Objective Dilated cardiomyopathy(DCM) is generally considered to be accompanied by both left and right ventricular dysfunction,but most studies only analyze the left ventricular function. In this study,we evaluated the effect of arotinolol on right ventricular function in patients with DCM. Methods Right ventricular ejection fraction(RVEF) and right ventricular diameter(RVD) were measured by two-dimensional echocardiography(2-DE) in 33 DCM patients;RVEF measured by first-pass radionuclide angiography(FPRA) was compared with that by 2-DE. Results The treatment with arotinolol for one year resulted in a reduction in the right ventricular diameter(baseline,23.0 ± 8.3 mm vs after one-year treatment,20.7 ± 5.4 mm;P=0.004 ) and an associated increase in ejection fraction(baseline,36.9 ± 10.3% vs after one-year treatment,45.8 ± 9.6%;P < 0.001 ) ;there is a high correlation between the 2-DE method and radionuclide ventriculographic method. The correlation coefficient is 0.933(P<0.001) . | 17 | Biosynthesis, property comparison, and hemocompatibility of bacterial and haloarchaeal poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)显示文摘Polyhydroxyalkanoates(PHAs) are a class of natural biopolyesters accumulated intracellularly by many microorganisms. These polymers have attracted particular attention as green plastic in biomedical and industrial applications due to their good biodegradability and biocompatibility. Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)(PHBV) is one of the most common members of PHAs. However, there is no report comparing the properties of PHBV from different groups of producers, e.g.,bacteria and haloarchaea. In this study, two types of PHBV copolymers were synthesized in Halogranum amylolyticum and Ralstonia eutropha, respectively, by feeding different carbon sources. They possessed a similar concentration of3 HV monomers(21 mol%) and were named PHBV-H(produced by H. amylolyticum) and PHBV-B(produced by R. eutropha) based on their source. Interestingly, they exhibited different behaviors especially in thermal stability, melting temperature, crystallinity percentage, and mechanical properties. Furthermore, the films of PHBV-Hand PHBV-B possessed different surface properties, such as surface roughness, wettability, and surface free energy.The value of hemolysis on the PHBV-H film was lower in comparison with the PHBV-B film, although both values were within the limit of 5 % permissible for biomaterials.Notably, few inactivated platelets adhered to the surface of the PHBV-H film, whereas numerous activated platelets were seen on film PHBV-B. These results indicated that PHBV-H was a better potential component of blood-contact biomaterials than PHBV-B.
