| 1 | Oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation products:effect of pinealectomy or exogenous melatonin injections on biomarkers of tissue damage during acute pancreatitis显示文摘BACKGROUND:Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytripta-mine) is a free radical scavenger and a strong antioxidant,secreted by the pineal gland.In this study,we evaluated the effects of decreasing and increasing serum melatonin levels on malonyldialdehyde (MDA),superoxide dismutase (SOD),and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels in pancreatic tissue from rats with experimental acute pancreatitis.METHODS:Experimental acute pancreatitis was induced in three groups of Wistar albino rats (10 animals per group) by pancreatic ductal ligation.The first group had only acute pancreatitis and served as the control.Surgical pinealectomy was added to acute pancreatitis in the second group,removing the source of endogenous melatonin (low melatonin levels group).The third group was given 0.1 ml daily intraperitoneal injections of 20 mg/ml melatonin solution for one week (high melatonin levels group).The effects of melatonin levels were evaluated by comparison of the levels of MDA,SOD,and GS in pancreatic tissue.RESULT:We found that intraperitoneal melatonin injections decreased the levels of MDA and increased the levels of SOD and GSH in pancreatic tissue.CONCLUSION:Exogenous melatonin has a preventive effect on lipid peroxidation and oxidative damage in acute pancreatitis. | Cavit l Kahraman Dinler O■uz Hasdemir Oktay Büyüka■ik Güler Bu■dayci | 2010 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2010，9，1： | 7 |
| 2 | Itopride for gastric volume,gastric emptying and drinking capacity in functional dyspepsia显示文摘AIM To study the effect of itopride on gastric accommodation, gastric emptying and drinking capacity in functional dyspepsia(FD). METHODS Randomized controlled trial was conducted to check the effect of itopride on gastric accommodation, gastric emptying, capacity of tolerating nutrient liquid and symptoms of FD. We recruited a total of 31 patients having FD on the basis of ROME III criteria. After randomization, itopride was received by 15 patients while 16 patients received placebo. Gastric accommodation was determined using Gastric Scintigraphy. ^(13) C labeled octanoic breadth test was performed to assess gastric emptying. Capacity of tolerating nutrient liquid drink was checked using satiety drinking capacity test. Theintervention group comprised of 150 mg itopride. Patients in both arms were followed for 4 wk. RESULTS Mean age of the recruited participant 33 years(SD = 7.6) and most of the recruited individuals, i.e., 21(67.7%) were males. We found that there was no effect of itopride on gastric accommodation as measured at different in volumes in the itopride and control group with the empty stomach(P = 0.14), at 20 min(P = 0.38), 30 min(P = 0.30), 40 min(P = 0.43), 50 min(P = 0.50), 60 min(P = 0.81), 90 min(P = 0.25) and 120 min(P = 0.67). Gastric emptying done on a sub sample(n = 11) showed no significant difference(P = 0.58) between itopride and placebo group. There was no significant improvement in the capacity to tolerate liquid in the itopride group as compared to placebo(P = 0.51). Similarly there was no significant improvement of symptoms as assessed through a composite symptom score(P = 0.74). The change in QT interval in itopride group was not significantly different from placebo(0.10). | 7 | Evaluation of dry eye disease in newly diagnosed anxiety and depression patients using anterior segment optical coherence tomography显示文摘Background:We aimed to evaluate dry eye diseases(DED)in patients with newly diagnosed depression and anxiety patients.Methods:Forty newly diagnosed depression,35 anxiety patients,and 37 controls without any history of taking psychiatric drugs(or before the beginning of psychiatric medication)and topical ophthalmic drop use,were included in the study.All depression and anxiety diagnoses were performed by an experienced psychiatrist.Beck depression and anxiety tests were used to measure disease severity.Tear film break up time(TBUT),Schirmer’s test,Oxford scores and ocular surface disease index(OSDI)were admiinistered to participants.Anterior segment optical coherence tomography was used to measure tear meniscus heights(TMH),tear meniscus depths(TMD)and tear meniscus areas(TMA).Results:In anxiety and depression groups,Schirmer’s test(mm)(7.24±6.02,6.58±4.9 and 18.79±4.9 respectively,p<0.05)and TBUT(s)(5.62±3.1,5.6±3.5 and 13.37±1.7 respectively,p<0.05)were significantly lower than control group.In addition,OSDI and Oxford scores were significantly higher than controls.OSDI scores were 28.01±19,30.43±18.49,14.38±8.14 respectively(p=0.002)and Oxford scores were 1.9±0.7,2.1±0.6 and 0.7±0.4 respectively(p=0.001).TMD,TMH and TMA values were significantly lower in anxiety and depression groups compared with control groups.Correlations between disease inventory scores and dry eye tests were detected.Conclusions:This study showed a relation between DED and newly diagnosed anxiety and depression patients with no history of psychiatric drug use.The presence of correlation between dry eye tests and disease inventory scores strengthens this association.This is an important knowledge that need to be evaluated in these patients before starting psychiatric medication. | Mahmut Oğuz Ulusoy Selen Işık-Ulusoy SertaçArgun Kıvanç | 2019 | Eye and Vision2019，6，1： | 3 |
