| 2 | Restoration of electrical microenvironment enhances bone regeneration under diabetic conditions by modulating macrophage polarization显示文摘Macrophage-mediated inflammation compromises bone repair in diabetic patients.Electrical signaling cues are known to regulate macrophage functions.However,the biological effects of electrical microenvironment from charged biomaterials on the immune response for regulating osteogenesis under diabetic conditions remain to be elucidated.Herein the endogeneous electrical microenvironment of native bone tissue was recapitulated by fabricating a ferroelectric BaTiO_(3)/poly(vinylidene fluoridetrifluoroethylene)(BTO/P(VDF-TrFE))nanocomposite membrane.In vitro,the polarized BaTiO_(3)/poly(vinylidene fluoridetrifluoroethylene)(BTO/P(VDF-TrFE))nanocomposite membranes inhibited high glucose-induced M1-type inflammation,by effecting changes in cell morphology,M1 marker expression and pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion in macrophages.This led to enhanced osteogenic differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BM-MSCs).In vivo,the biomimetic electrical microenvironment recapitulated by the polarized nanocomposite membranes switched macrophage phenotype from the pro-inflammatory(M1)into the pro-healing(M2)phenotype,which in turn enhanced bone regeneration in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Mechanistic studies revealed that the biomimetic electrical microenvironment attenuated pro-inflammatory M1 macrophage polarization under hyperglycemic conditions by suppressing expression of AKT2 and IRF5 within the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway,thereby inducing favorable osteo-immunomodulatory effects.Our study thus provides fundamental insights into the biological effects of restoring the electrical microenvironment conducive for osteogenesis under DM conditions,and offers an effective strategy to design functionalized biomaterials for bone regeneration therapy in diabetic patients. | Xiaohan Dai Boon Chin Heng Yunyang Bai Fuping You Xiaowen Sun Yiping Li Zhangui Tang Mingming Xu Xuehui Zhang Xuliang Deng | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,7: | 9 |

| 5 | Ingeniously designed Ni-Mo-S/ZnIn_(2)S_(4) composite for multi-photocatalytic reaction systems显示文摘Molybdenum disulfide (MoS_(2)) with low cost, high activity and high earth abundance has been found to be a promising catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), but its catalytic activity is considerably limited due to its inert basal planes. Here, through the combination of theory and experiment, we propose that doping Ni in MoS_(2) as catalyst can make it have excellent catalytic activity in different reaction systems. In the EY/TEOA system, the maximum hydrogen production rate of EY/Ni-Mo-S is 2.72 times higher than that of pure EY, which confirms the strong hydrogen evolution activity of Ni-Mo-S nanosheets as catalysts. In the lactic acid and Na_(2)S/Na_(2)SO_(3) systems, when Ni-Mo-S is used as co-catalyst to compound with ZnIn_(2)S_(4) (termed as Ni-Mo-S/ZnIn_(2)S_(4)), the maximum hydrogen evolution rates in the two systems are 5.28 and 2.33 times higher than those of pure ZnIn_(2)S_(4), respectively. The difference in HER enhancement is because different systems lead to different sources of protons, thus affecting hydrogen evolution activity. Theoretically, we further demonstrate that the Ni-Mo-S nanosheets have a narrower band gap than MoS_(2), which is conducive to the rapid transfer of charge carriers and thus result in multi-photocatalytic reaction systems with excellent activity. | 12 | A facile design for multifunctional AIEgen based on tetraaniline derivatives显示文摘Aniline oligomers have been widely used in many fields due to their excellent physicochemical properties. Owing to strong intermolecular interactions, their emission is always weakened or quenched when they are in high concentration or aggregated state, which greatly limits their fluorescent applications. Inspired by the concept of aggregation-induced emission(AIE), herein we introduced large steric groups onto the aniline oligomer to prevent the formation of packing structure. In particular, diphenyl vinyl group was bonded with oligomeric tetraaniline by a facile synthetic procedure with high yield. The obtained aniline oligomer derivative exhibited typical AIE features, which was also confirmed by density functional theoretical calculation. More importantly, this AIE oligomer was able to detect Fe^(3+) ions selectively and quantitatively. The fluorescence intensity decreased linearly along with the increment of Fe^(3+) concentration. Moreover, we demonstrated that this AIE oligomer could stain live bacteria, such as E. coli and S. aureus efficiently.
