| 3 | Performance of an activated carbon made from waste palm shell in simultaneous adsorption of SO_x and NO_x of flue gas at low temperature显示文摘This study examined the individual and simultaneous adsorption of SOx (SO2) and NOx (NO-NO2) on activated carbon prepared from waste palm shell. The adsorption process was examined in a fixed bed reactor at low temperatures (100―300℃). For individual adsorption without any catalytic activation, SOx showed good adsorption whereas NOx was very much poor. In the simultaneous adsorption of SOx and NOx, SOx showed greater adsorption affinity than NOx. For palm shell activated carbon (PSAC) impregnated with metal catalyst (Ni and Ce) the concentration adsorbed profile showed that the amount of SOx adsorbed decreased regularly, while the amount of the adsorbed NOx increased irregularly. The properties of the pure and impregnated PSAC were analyzed by BET, SEM and EDX. | 5 | Pharmacological activity,phytochemical analysis and toxicity of methanol extract of Etlingera elatior(torch ginger) flowers显示文摘Objective:To elucidate its pharmacological activities and medicinal potential of extract of Etlingera elatior(E.elatior).Methods:Phytochemical screening of the flower extract was done to determine the phytochemical in the extract.The pharmacological study included the determination of antimicrobial activity and minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of metabolic flower extract.The antimicrobial activity of the extract was tested against medically important bacterial,yeast and fungal strains.Apart from that,the methanolic extract of E.elatior flower was further tested in vivo toxicity using the brine shrimp lethality test.Moreover,the flower extract was qualitatively screened for their free radical scavenging activity by 2,2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl radical(DPPH) assay.Results:The extract was effective on tested microorganisms and MIC values were in the range of 1.563-50.000 mg/mL.The brine shrimp lethality test exhibited no significant toxicity(LC50= 2.52 mg/mL) against Artemia salina.The E.elatior flower extract with high LC50 value signified that this plant is not toxic to humans.While the phytochemical screening of the flower extract revealed the presence of the following compounds: flavonoids,terpenoids,saponin,tannins and carbohydrates whereas,alkaloids,anthraquinone and reducing sugars were absent.The concentration of the flower extract required for 50% inhibition of DPPH radical scavenging effect(IC50) were 9.14 mg/mL and 8.08 mg/mL for butylated hydroxytoluene 8.08 mg/mL.Conclusions:These findings indicate that the extract of E.elatior flower possesses pharmacological properties and potential to develop natural products based pharmaceuticals products. | Subramanion Jo Thy Lachumy Sreenivasan Sasidharan Velio Sumathy Zakaria Zuraini | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,10: | 5 |
| 6 | Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Colonization in Upland Rice as Influenced by Agrochemical Application显示文摘Mycorrhizal status of rice under upland conditions was studied using potted seedlings. Percentage of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) root colonization varied between 17.35% and 37.18% over an age series of 7 to 70 days old rice plants. AMF root colonization was increased up to 35-42 days, beyond which the root colonization steadily declined. The vesicles appeared after two weeks and reached their maximum intensity on the 35th day. The arbuscules were formed late on the 42nd day (2.93%) and slightly varied up to the 70th day (3.03%). Higher dosage of urea application suppressed plant growth whereas the superphosphate treatment had no marked impact on plant growth. Generally, application of these agrochemicals registered less influence on the hyphal colonization of AMF in rice plants, whereas arbuscular colonization was adversely affected by higher dosages of fertilizers. There were pronounced decreases in both the plant growth and their AMF colonization due to the application of systemic fungicides, carbendazim and thiophanate methyl. | 8 | 印度南部2型糖尿病患者糖尿病视网膜病变相关危险因素的研究(英文)显示文摘目的:探究2型糖尿病患者糖尿病视网膜病变(DR)的严重度及受试者中糖尿病视网膜病变严重程度与其病程、糖化血红蛋白水平、高血压史、年龄和性别的相关性。方法:横断面研究。2012-05/06,采取简单随机抽样方法进行结构化问卷调查,收集100例年龄≥35岁糖尿病视网膜病变患者。进行描述性统计、单变量和多变量有序逻辑回归分析。用excel表进行数据录入,并用SPSS 21.0进行数据分析(P<0.05)。结果:100例患者,平均年龄53.16±10.81(35~78)岁。通过单因素分析发现,糖尿病视网膜病变严重度与年龄(P<0.01),糖尿病病程(P<0.001),糖化血红蛋白水平(P<0.001),糖尿病家族史(P<0.01),高血压病史(P<0.05),均呈正相关,高密度脂蛋白(HDL)及年龄与DR严重程度无相关性。除年龄因素外,上述所有因素均为影响糖尿病视网膜病变严重度的独立风险因素。结论:研究表明,糖尿病病程、糖化血红蛋白水平、糖尿病家族史、高血压病史以及性别与糖尿病视网膜病变严重程度密切相关。但多因素分析中,年龄、HDL因素与DR严重程度无关。因此,利用现有治疗手段的有效性和及时控制,可以预防和消除视力威胁性疾病,延缓DR的发生。 | Senthilvel Vasudevan Sumathi Senthilvel Jayanthi Sureshbabu | 2017 | 国际眼科杂志2017,17,9: | 4 |

| 10 | Evaluation of antigenotoxic effects of carotenoids from green algae Chlorococcum humicola using human lymphocytes显示文摘Objective:To identify the available phytochemicals and carotenoids in the selected green algae and evaluate the potential genotoxic/antigenotoxic effect using lymphocytes.Methods:Organic,solvent extracts of Chlorococcum humicola(C.humicola)were used for the phytochemical analysis.The available carotenoids were assessed by HPLC,and LC-MS analysis.The genotoxicity was induced by the benzo(a)pyrene in the lymphocyte culture,the genotoxic and antigenotoxic effects of algal carotenoids with and without genotoxic inducer were evaluated by chromosomal aberration(CA),sister chromatid exchange(SCE)and micronucleus assay(MN).Results:The results of the analysis showed that the algae were rich in carotenoids and fatty acids.In the total carotenoids lutein,β-carotene andα-carotene were found to be present in higher concentration.The frequency of CA and SCE increased by benzo(a)pyrene were significantly decreased by the carotenoids(P<0.05 for CA,P<0.001 for SCE).The MN frequencies of the cells were significantly decreased by the treatment with carotenoids when compared with the positive controls(P<0.05).Conclusions:The findings of the present study demonstrate that,the green algae C.humicola is a rich source of bioactive compounds especially carotenoids which effectively fight against environmental genotoxic agents,the carotenoids itself is not a genotoxic substance and should be further considered for its beneficial effects. | Bhagavathy S Sumathi P | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,2: | 3 |
| 11 | The association of grip strength with cardiovascular diseases and all-cause mortality in people with hypertension:Findings from the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology China Study显示文摘Background:Both hypertension and grip strength(GS)are predictors of mortality and cardiovascular disease(CVD),but whether these risk factors interact to affect CVD and all-cause mortality is unknown.This study sought to investigate the associations of GS with the risk of major CVD incidence,CVD mortality,and all-cause mortality in patients with hypertension.Methods:GS was measured using a Jamar dynamometer(Sammons Preston,Bolingbrook,IL,USA)in participants aged 3570 years from 12 provinces included in the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology China Study.Cox frailty proportional hazards models were used to examine the associations of GS and hypertension and the outcomes of all-cause mortality and CVD incidence/mortality.Results:Among 39,862 participants included in this study,15,964 reported having hypertension,and 9095 had high GS at baseline.After a median follow-up of 8.9 years(interquartile range,6.79.9 years),1822 participants developed major CVD,and 1250 deaths occurred(388 as a result of CVD).Compared with normotensive participants with high GS,hypertensive patients with high GS had a higher risk of major CVD incidence(hazard ratio(HR)=2.39;95%confidence interval(95%CI):1.863.06;p<0.001)or CVD mortality(HR=3.11;95%CI:1.596.06;p<0.001)but did not have a significantly increased risk of all-cause mortality(HR=1.24;95%CI:0.921.68;p=0.159).These risks were further increased if hypertensive participants whose GS level was low(major CVD incidence,HR=3.31,95%CI:2.604.22,p<0.001;CVD mortality,HR=4.99,95%CI:2.649.43,p<0.001;and all-cause mortality,HR=1.93,95%CI:1.472.53,p<0.001).Conclusion:The present study demonstrates that low GS is associated with the highest risk of major CVD incidence,CVD mortality,and all-cause mortality among hypertensive patients.High levels of GS appear to mitigate long-term mortality risk among hypertensive patients. | Weida Liu Darryl P Leong Bo Hu Lap AhTse Sumathy Rangarajan Yang Wang Chuangshi Wang Fanghong Lu Yindong Li Salim Yusuf Lisheng Liu Wei Li | 2021 | Journal of Sport and Health Science2021,10,6: | 2 |
