| 1 | Breath tests and irritable bowel syndrome显示文摘Breath tests are non-invasive tests and can detect H2and CH4 gases which are produced by bacterial fermentation of unabsorbed intestinal carbohydrate and are excreted in the breath.These tests are used in the diagnosis of carbohydrate malabsorption,small intestinal bacterial overgrowth,and for measuring the orocecal transit time.Malabsorption of carbohydrates is a key trigger of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)-type symptoms such as diarrhea and/or constipation,bloating,excess flatulence,headaches and lack of energy.Abdominal bloating is a common nonspecific symptom which can negatively impact quality of life.It may reflect dietary imbalance,such as excess fiber intake,or may be a manifestation of IBS.However,bloating may also represent small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.Patients with persistent symptoms of abdominal bloating and distension despite dietary interventions should be referred for H2 breath testing to determine the presence or absence of bacterial overgrowth.If bacterial overgrowth is identified,patients are typically treated with antibiotics.Evaluation of IBS generally includes testing of other disorders that cause similar symptoms.Carbohydrate malabsorption(lactose,fructose,sorbitol)can cause abdominal fullness,bloating,nausea,abdominal pain,flatulence,and diarrhea,which are similar to the symptoms of IBS.However,it is unclear if these digestive disorders contribute to or cause the symptoms of IBS.Research studies show that a proper diagnosis and effective dietary intervention significantly reduces the severity and frequency of gastrointestinal symptoms in IBS.Thus,diagnosis of malabsorption of these carbohydrates in IBS using a breath test is very important to guide the clinician in the proper treatment of IBS patients. | Satya Vati Rana Aastha Malik | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,24: | 12 |
| 2 | The role and significance of Magnesium in modern day research-A review显示文摘Magnesium is one of the largely available elements in the earth’s crust. It has a low structural density with high specific strength. This unique material property has forced an increase in the use of magnesium and its alloys in various applications pertaining to industrial sector,automobiles, aerospace and biomedical. Since magnesium is a highly reactive metal, it is prone to higher rate of corrosion as compared to its counterparts. Thus, it is essential to analyze the corrosion behavior of magnesium and its alloys in its applications. An appropriate process is to be followed in the design and development of magnesium alloys which overcome the limitations of magnesium and enhance the desired material properties in accordance to their applications. This review paper summarizes the importance of magnesium and its material properties. The influence of various alloying elements on the mechanical properties of magnesium is reviewed. The broad classification of Mg alloys and their behavioral trends are detailed. The corrosion behavior of magnesium and the influence of corrosion products on the material characteristics of magnesium, in aqueous medium, are discussed. The manufacturing techniques of magnesium alloys along with the secondary techniques are also covered. The various applications and the limitations of magnesium in these applications are covered. A complete section is dedicated towards detailing the recent trends of magnesium(Mg) alloys, i.e., the biodegradable nature and applications of Mg alloys. The influence of biocorrosion on Mg alloys and techniques to overcome it have been deliberated. | 3 | Innovation of endoscopic management in difficult common bile duct stone in the era of laparoscopic surgery显示文摘Common bile duct(CBD)stone is a common biliary problem,which often requires endoscopic approach as the initial treatment option.Roughly,7%-12%of the subjects who experience cholecystectomy were subsequently referred to biliary endoscopist for further management.In general,there are three classifications of difficult CBD stone,which are based on the characteristics of the stone(larger than 15 mm,barrel or square-shaped stones,and hard consistency),accessibility to papilla related to anatomical variations,and other clinical conditions or comorbidities of the patients.Currently,endoscopic papillary large balloon dilation(EPLBD)of a previous sphincterotomy and EPLBD combined with limited sphincterotomy performed on the same session is still recommended by the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy as the main approach in difficult CBD stones with history of failed sphincterotomy and balloon and/or basket attempts.If failed extraction is still encountered,mechanical lithotripsy or cholangioscopy-assisted lithotripsy or extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy can be considered.Surgical approach can be considered when stone extraction is still failed or the facilities to perform lithotripsy are not available.To our knowledge,conflicting evidence are still found from previous studies related to the comparison between endoscopic and surgical approaches.The availability of experienced operator and resources needs to be considered in creating individualized treatment strategies for managing difficult biliary stones. | Cosmas Rinaldi Adithya Lesmana Maria Satya Paramitha Laurentius Adrianto Lesmana | 2021 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2021,13,7: | 9 |

| 5 | A Modified Plate Assay for Rapid Screening of Potassium-Solubilizing Bacteria显示文摘The utility of microorganisms for solubilizing the unavailable forms of potassium(K) from soil has led to renewed interest in fabrication of rapid and sensitive plate assays for their isolation and screening. The present study developed a modified plate assay and compared it with previously reported methods for the isolation and screening of K-solubilizing bacteria. The newly developed plate assay is based on improved visualization of halo zone formation around the colonies on agar plates, through inclusion of an acid-base indicator dye, bromothymol blue(BTB), to modify the previously reported Aleksandrov medium. The halo zone exhibited a significant correlation(R = 0.939) with K released in liquid medium. The visualization of potential K solubilizers was improved using this method, which would help in detection of weak/non-acid producers based on secretion of organic acids in the medium. Organic acids in plate diffuse radially and form halo zones in response to reaction with the acid-base indicator dye BTB. Furthermore, K solubilization on plates with this method can be observed within 48–72 h, against the incubation time of 4–5 d needed in the earlier method. | 9 | The Use of High-Performance Fatigue Mechanics and the Extended Kalman/Particle Filters,for Diagnostics and Prognostics of Aircraft Structures显示文摘In this paper,we propose an approach for diagnostics and prognostics of damaged aircraft structures,by combing high-performance fatigue mechanics with filtering theories.Fast&accurate deterministic analyses of fatigue crack propagations are carried out,by using the Finite Element Alternating Method(FEAM)for computing SIFs,and by using the newly developed Moving Least Squares(MLS)law for computing fatigue crack growth rates.Such algorithms for simulating fatigue crack propagations are embedded in the computer program Safe-Flaw,which is called upon as a subroutine within the probabilistic framework of filter theories.Both the extended Kalman as well as particle filters are applied in this study,to obtain the statistically optimal and semi-optimal estimates of crack lengths,from a series of noisy measurements of crack-lengths over time.For the specific problem,a simple modification to the particle filter,which can drastically reduce the computational burden,is also proposed.Based on the results of such diagnostic analyses,the prognostics of aerospace structures are thereafter achieved,to estimate the probabilistic distribution of the remaining useful life.By using a simple example of a single-crack near a fastener hole,we demonstrate the concept and effectiveness of the proposed framework.This paper thus forms the scientific foundation for the recently proposed concepts of VRAMS(Virtual Risk-Informed Agile Maneuver Sustainment)and Digital Twins of aerospace vehicles. | Hai-Kun Wang Robert Haynes Hong-Zhong Huang Leiting Dong Satya N.Atluri | 2015 | Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2015,,5: | 3 |

It possess excellent surface properties such as large surface area, fire-resistance and plenty availability, but has disadvantages such as its heavy weight, low breathability (after adsorption of moisture) and disposal. In this paper, we propose to utilize novel electrospun polymeric nanostructures having zeolites as catalyst materials. In this respective, the electrospun polymer nanofibers would serve as the best possible substitutes to activated carbon based protective clothing applications. This is the first in the literature that reports the integration of these types of catalysts with nanofiberous membranes. Electrospinning of cellulose/polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blend nanofibers has been carried out. Zeolite catalysts (Linde Type A and Mordenite) for the detoxification of nerve agent stimulant-paraoxon, were prepared due to their relative simplicity of synthesis. The catalysts were then coated onto nanofiber membranes and their morphology was confirmed using SEM. This is the first report on the coating of nanofibers with zeolites and their successful demonstration against nerve agent stimulant. | 14 | OsSCE1 Encoding SUMO E2-Conjugating Enzyme Involves in Drought Stress Response of Oryza sativa显示文摘Small ubiquitin-like modifier(SUMO)-conjugating enzymes are involved in post-translational regulatory processes in eukaryotes, including the conjugation of SUMO peptides to protein substrate(SUMOylation). SUMOylation plays an important role in improving plant tolerance to abiotic stress such as salt, drought, heat and cold. Herein, we reported the isolation of OsSCE1(LOC_Os10 g39120) gene encoding a SUMO-conjugating enzyme from rice(Oryza sativa cv. Nipponbare) and its functional validation in response to drought stress. The E2 enzyme, Os SCE1, is one of three key enzymes involved in the conjugation of SUMO to its target proteins. Activated SUMO is transferred to the cysteine of an E2 enzyme and then to the target lysine residue of the substrate, with or without the help of an E3 SUMO ligase. Expression of OsSCE1 was strongly induced by polyethylene glycol 6000(PEG6000) treatment, which suggested OsSCE1 may be involved in the drought stress response. Overexpression of OsSCE1(OsSCE1-OX) in Nipponbare reduced the tolerance to drought stress. Conversely, the drought tolerance was slightly improved by the knockdown of OsSCE1(OsSCE1-KD). These results were further supported by measurement of proline content in OsSCE1-OX and OsSCE1-KD transgenic lines under induced drought stress, which showed OsSCE1-KD transgenic lines accumulated higher proline content than the wild type, whereas OsSCE1-OX line had lower proline content than the wild type.
