| 2 | Injection of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells by intravenous or intraperitoneal routes is a viable alternative to spinal cord injury treatment in mice显示文摘In spite of advances in surgical care and rehabilitation,the consequences of spinal cord injury(SCI)ar still challenging.Several experimental therapeutic strategies have been studied in the SCI field,and recen advances have led to the development of therapies that may act on the inhibitory microenvironment.As sorted lineages of stem cells are considered a good treatment for SCI.This study investigated the effect o systemic transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)in a compressive SCI model.Here we presen results of the intraperitoneal route,which has not been used previously for MSC administration after comveI.WeafC57BL/6nt lmy atb spinal cord compression for 1 minute with a 30-g vascular clip.The animals were divided into five groups DMEM at 7 days after SCI),DMEM i.v.(intravenous injection of 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI)The effects of MSCs transplantation in white matter sparing were analyzed by luxol fast blue staining.Th number of preserved fibers was counted in semithin sections stained with toluidine blue and the presenc of trophic factors was analyzed by immunohistochemistry.In addition,we analyzed the locomotor perfor mance with Basso Mouse Scale and Global Mobility Test.Our results showed white matter preservation and a larger number of preserved fibers in the MSC groups than in the DMEM groups.Furthermore,th MSC groups had higher levels of trophic factors(brain-derived neurotrophic factor,nerve growth factor neurotrophin-3 and neurotrophin-4)in the spinal cord and improved locomotor performance.Our result indicate that injection of MSCs by either intraperitoneal or intravenous routes results in beneficial out comes and can be elected as a choice for SCI treatment. | Bruna dos Santos Ramalho FernANDa Martins de Almeida Conrado Mendonca Sales Silmara de Lima Ana Maria Blanco Martinez | 2018 | Neural Regeneration Research2018,13,6: | 12 |
| 3 | Research advances on the multiple uses of Moringa oleifera: a sustainable alternative for socially neglected population显示文摘Moringa oleifera Lam(Moringaceae) is a plant with high nutritional and medicinal value. Native to India, it is now widely distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Its different parts are sources of proteins, vitamins and minerals and present different pharmacological and biotechnological potential. Moreover, M. oleifera seeds are widely used in water and effluent treatment, for their coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation properties, their ability of improving water quality, by reducing organic matter and microbial load, with special applicability in intensive animal production systems, such as aquaculture. In addition, due to its high nutritional value and several medicinal properties, this tree may act as a nutritional and medical alternative for socially neglected populations. | 5 | Dietary approach in the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) has been identified as one of the most prevalent chronic liver disease in adults and children populations. NAFLD is usually associated with the metabolic syndrome(MS), which is chiefly related to insulin resistance and its consequences. Insulin resistance has a crucial role in the pathogenesis of hepatic steatosis and potentially nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH). Because of the contemporary epidemics of MS and obesity, the burden of NAFLD is also expected to rise. Unhealthy diets, such as the so-called western diet, are enriched in fructose, trans-fatty acids and saturated fat and seem to be associated with the development of NAFLD. In human studies, certain dietary sugars, particularly fructose, are used as a substrate for lipogenesis leading to hepatic fatty infiltration, inflammation, and possibly fibrosis. Other investigations have shown that fat consumption especially cholesterol and trans/saturated fatty acids are also steatogenic and seem to increase visceral adiposity. The identification of specific dietary components that favor the development of NASH could be important for the management of this disorder. | 15 | Effects of blood flow restriction without additional exercise on strength reductions and muscular atrophy following immobilization:A systematic review显示文摘Purpose:To investigate whether blood flow restriction(BFR) without concomitant exercise mitigated strength reduction and atrophy of thigh muscles in subjects under immobilization for lower limbs.Methods:The following databases were searched:PubMed,CINAHL,PEDro,Web of Science,Central,and Scopus.Results:The search identified 3 eligible studies,and the total sample in the identified studies consisted of 38 participants.Isokinetic and isometric torque of the knee flexors and extensors was examined in 2 studies.Cross-sectional area of thigh muscles was evaluated in 1 study,and thigh girth was measured in 2 studies.The BFR protocol was 5 sets of 5 min of occlusion and 3 min of free flow,twice daily for approximately 2 weeks.As a whole,the included studies indicate that BFR without exercise is able to minimize strength reduction and muscular atrophy after immobilization.It is crucial to emphasize,however,that the included studies showed a high risk of bias,especially regarding allocation concealment,blinding of outcome assessment,intention-to-treat analyses,and group similarity at baseline.Conclusion:Although potentially useful,the high risk of bias presented by original stodies limits the indication of BFR without concomitant exercise as an effective countermeasure against strength reduction and atrophy mediated by immobilization. | Mikhail Santos Cerqueira Jose Diego Sales Do Nascimento Daniel Germano Maciel Jean Artur Mendonca Barboza Wouber Herickson De Brito Vieira | 2020 | Journal of Sport and Health Science2020,9,2: | 1 |

| 20 | Impacts of global warming on southern California's winegrape climate suitability显示文摘Southern California has seen a resurgence of winegrowing regions in the past few decades,however the future of winegrape climatic suitability in the area has not been exhaustively explored.This study evaluated the future climate suitability for the cultivation of winegrape and potential global warming impacts on southern California's winegrowing regions through a series of high-resolution surface air temperature and precipitation projections obtained with the WRF-SSIB regional climate model.Results reveal that by mid-21st-century the surface air temperature will increase by approximately 1.2℃,while average precipitation will decrease by as much as 11%in the southern winegrowing areas under the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change high greenhouse-gas emissions scenario.Evaluation of bioclimatic suitability indices indicate increases in heat accumulation for all major winegrowing areas;including an increase of about 10% in growing-degree day,while morning low temperatures in September may experience increases of approximately 11% in the future,thus impacting negatively the ripening stage of grapevines and leading to changes in wine composition and quality.Additionally,the extent of areas classified under the cool to warm climate suitability categories could decrease by nearly 42% in the study area by 2050.Conditions in southern California are already warm and dry for viticulture and continuing heat accumulation increase,along with rainfall reduction,could potentially place additional stress to winegrape crop in the area,including advanced phenological timing and moisture deficit stress that could lead to decreases in yield.The projected decline in viticulture suitability highlights the need for adaptive capacity within this sector to mitigate the impacts of global warming.Possible mitigating strategies include planting hotter climate grape varieties,moving vineyards to regions that are more suitable in the future,and adopting dry-farming techniques. | Corrie MONTE VERDE Fernando DE SALES | 2020 | Advances in Climate Change Research2020,11,3: | 1 |
