1Geochemical characterization of Cretaceous sandstones from the Southern Benue Trough, Nigeria显示文摘Geochemical studies of sandstones from the three lithostratigraphic successions in the southern Benue Trough of Nigeria were undertaken for a geochemical characterization of the sandstones, and to assess their strati-graphic and source evolution. Major and trace elements data were obtained from outcrop sandstone samples. The SiO2/Al2O3, Fe2O3/K2O ratios and CaO contents have been used to characterize the Cretaceous sandstones into Al-rich and high and low Fe2O3/K2O ratio sandstones. Results indicate that there are geochemical features that display stratigraphic trends across the succession from the Asu River Group, Eze-Aku Group to the proto-Niger Delta succession which may imply a discontinuous evolution from different source terrains of Precambrian and Mesozoic ages that supplied the sediments. The Asu River Group sandstones have lower SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3 and higher MgO; the Eze-Aku sandstones have higher TiO2, CaO, alkalis and lower MgO while the proto-Niger Delta sandstones have higher SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3 and lower alkalis and CaO. These discontinuities signify the influence of tectonic impulses that af- fected the southern Benue Trough during the Cretaceous time. Changes in ratios of TiO2/Al2O3, Fe2O3, Cr and Zr suggest an increasingly mafic contribution to the depositional basin with time. The chemical index of alteration increases with time, possibly suggesting that a more intense weathering regime in the hinterland developed with time.Odigi M.I. 3Measurement of shear movements in the overburden strata ahead of longwall mining显示文摘An underground coal mine located in New South Wales has a target coal seam located 160–180 m deep directly below a 16–20 m thick conglomerate unit that has been associated with significant periodic weighting events on the longwall face. As part of the investigations to better understand the causes of periodic weighting at the mine,inclinometers capable of measuring horizontal shear movements through the full section of the overburden strata were installed ahead of mining at two locations approximately1 km apart above the centre of two longwall panels. These inclinometers were monitored as the longwall approached each site. This paper presents the details of the installation,the results of the inclinometer monitoring at both sites,and the insights that these measurements provide for overburden behaviour about longwall panels. Horizontal shear movements were observed to develop on shear horizons that correlate closely across the two sites suggesting a mechanism that is consistent across a large area of the mine. Shear movements were observed to develop on a single horizon near the top of the conglomerate strata that was mobilised almost immediately after initial formation of the longwall goaf at a distance of 425 m ahead of the longwall face.Mills K.W. Sound specimen has been achieved with preparing foam aluminum by using investment casting process. The preparation of plaster prefabricated mould is one key in investment casting. Main composition, ingredient and affecting factors of plaster mould are also discussed and the vacuum-infiltrated shaping technique was found to be another important link. 15Guava extract (Psidium guajava) alters the labelling of blood constituents with technetium-99m显示文摘Psidium guajava (guava) leaf is a phytotherapic used in folk medicine to treat gastrointestinal and respiratory dis-turbances and is used as anti-inflammatory medicine. In nuclear medicine, blood constituents (BC) are labelled with techne-tium-99m (99mTc) and used to image procedures. However, data have demonstrated that synthetic or natural drugs could modify the labelling of BC with 99mTc. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of aqueous extract of guava leaves on the labelling of BC with 99mTc. Blood samples of Wistar rats were incubated with different concentrations of guava extract and labelled with 99mTc after the percentage of incorporated radioactivity (%ATI) in BC was determined. The results suggest that aqueous guava extract could present antioxidant action and/or alters the membrane structures involved in ion transport into cells, thus decreasing the radiolabelling of BC with 99mTc.
