| 13 | Effect of Dietary Crude Protein Level of Feed on Growth and Survival of Rohu Fry显示文摘Fry rearing is one of the important stage which aims at obtaining high growth and survival for production of fingerlings required for stocking into grow out ponds as well as rehabilitation in natural habitat. This experiment was conducted with the purpose to test the effect of dietary crude protein level (CP %) of feeds prepared from similar feed ingredients in different ratios on growth performance and survival rate of Rohu fry (Labeorohita). An initial density of 100 fry/m2 was maintained in hapa fixed in the cemented tank. The dietary CP% level of feed tested were 20% CP, 25% CP, 30% CP, and 35% CP fed at 5% body weight. The experiment ran for 53 nursing days. The results showed that there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) in the growth rate (g/day) of fry among treatments. Rather group fed with higher protein level grew comparatively better indicating possibility of increasing need of protein in diets. However, the survival rate (%) of rohu fry was significantly different (P < 0.05) in each tested CP% level of feed. Highest survival (82%) of fry was found in the feed of CP 35% and lowest (56%) in the feed of CP 25%. It was predicted that feed with increasing level of CP % in diet is essential for increasing survival rate. | Surendra Prasad Ram K. Shrestha Md. | 14 | Chelation in Metal Intoxication XLIV: Efficacy of α-Mercapto β-(5-Substituted, 2-Furyl) Acrylic Acids in Mobilizing Intracellularly Bound Cadmium in Rat显示文摘The efficacy of α mercapto β (2_furyl) acrylic acid (MFA), α mercapto β (5_sodiumsulfonate, 2_furyl) acrylic acid (MSFA) and α mercapto β (5_acetoxymethyl, 2_furyl) acrylic acid (MAFA) to mobilize intracellularly bound cadmium in liver and kidney was investigated in rats pre_exposed to cadmium. MFA was effective in reducing cadmium levels of hepatic and renal supernatant cytosolic fraction (SCF) while MSFA and MAFA were effective in lowering cadmium levels of renal SCF and hepatic SCF respectively. All the chelating agents also enhanced the excretion of cadmium more in feces than in urine. However, substitution on the furan ring lowered cadmium mobilizing efficacy of the parent compound, MFA. The treatment with MFA did not affect the status of endogenous zinc and copper while the treatment with MSFA and MAFA enhanced their excretion. MSFA increased hepatic and renal zinc and renal copper while MAFA increased their copper levels. | SUSHIL K. | 15 | Effect of the Age of Root-Stock on the Success of Soft-Wood Grafting in Different Cultivars of Mango显示文摘An investigation was conducted to study the influence of the age of root-stock on the success and growth parameters of grafts using the method of soft-wood grafting in Amrapali,Mallika,Dashehari,Chausa,Langra and Bombay Green cultivars of mango. The experiment was conducted at Horticulture Garden,Department of Horticulture,Institute of Agricultural Sciences,Banaras Hindu University, during 2015-2016.The results of the present study indicated that the scion Langra performed the best for the two graft success parameters(GSPs)—the sprouting time and%graft take success and the two graft growth parameters(GGPs)—the scion-shoot girth and the number of leaves per plant;Chausa for the%graft survival and Bombay Green for the scion-shoot length.Amrapali was observed to perform the worst for the%graft take success, the scion-shoot girth and the number of leaves per plant, while Mallika performed the worst for the sprouting time, the%graft survival and the scion-shoot length. The grafting performed on the root-stock at age six months showed the worst for all the GSPs and GGPs.The grafting done on the root-stock at age two months performed the best for all the GSPs and GGPs,except the scion-shoot girth for which the grafting done on one month old root-stock was found to be the best. | Deependra Yadav Akhilesh Kumar Pal Surendra Prasad Singh | 2019 | Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology(B)2019,9,5: | 0 |
| 16 | Does offering only the spherical contact lens trial to the low astigmats mislead the practitioners?显示文摘AIM:To compare the visual acuity(VA),comfort, and patient preference in a soft toric contact lens(TCL)versus soft spherical contact lens(SCL)in low astigmatic subjects during the contact lens(CL)trial.METHODS:This subject-masked,block randomized,2×2 crossover study recruited 40 neophyte subjects(80 eyes)aged 18 to 33 y with astigmatism in the range of 0.75-1.25 D with or without spherical power from-6.00 D to+6.00 D.The participants were scheduled for two days CL trial and were fitted with the best-fit SCL and TCL.After 4 h of wear, they were assessed objectively for high contrast VA and subjective vision, comfort, and preference.RESULTS:The responses of 36 subjects(response rate 90%)with a mean age of 23.02±2.97 y(range 18 to 33 y)were analyzed.One-line improvement of monocular VA in the logMAR chart was reported to TCL as compared to SCL(-0.044±0.06 vs 0.04±0.03 logMAR,P=0.01)but the binocular vision remained similar(-0.12±0.07 vs-0.14±0.04 logMAR,P=0.38).Subjects felt a noticeable difference in clarity when shifted to TCL as compared to the SCL.The satisfaction with vision(vision quality)was significantly better with TCL(P=0.03).The fatigue with TCL was graded less at 2.5±0.6,compared to SCL at 4.6±1.3(P=0.04).Thirty-three participants(91.6%)preferred to use contact lens of which 26 participants(79%)preferred TCL.CONCLUSION:The findings suggest that VA and comfort are better with TCL as compared to SCL which is only observed if the patient was offered both offering SCL with spherical equivalent power alone as the first option can mislead the practitioner;TCL trial should be the first choice of the lens in low-to-moderate astigmatism. | Monica Chaudhry Surendra Prasad Sah Indra Prasad Sharma Soujanya Mondal | 2021 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2021,14,8: | 0 |
