| 1 | Settling characteristics of ultrafine iron ore slimes显示文摘The slurry settling characteristics are the most important to design a thickener in process industries. In this work, the iron ore slurry from the screw classifier overflow was used for the settling study. It was observed that the original slurry exhibited a low settling velocity and a turbid supernatant during the settling process. Commercial flocculating agents with anionic, cationic, and nonionic characters were used to improve the settling behavior of suspensions, which were added into the slurry at different ranges of slurry pH values, respectively. The settling results show that the use of flocculants increase the settling rate by several times. Compared with the cationic and non-ionic flocculants, the anionic flocculant is more effective in enhancing the slurry settling rate. The small dose of the anionic flocculant is found to be more effective, but the other flocculants are less effective even at higher dosages. | 2 | Analyzing cytokines as biomarkers to evaluate severity of glaucoma显示文摘AIM: To analyze cytokines as biomarkers for evaluation of severity of glaucoma.METHODS: This was a prospective case-control study including 29 eyes with glaucoma. Besides, 28 eyes with senile cataract were used as control. Patients were classified into four groups: acute angle closure glaucoma(AACG), chronic angle closure glaucoma(CACG), primary open angle glaucoma(POAG) and senile cataract. Undiluted vitreous samples were collected, then vitreous concentrations of 9 types of cytokines were determined by cytometric bead assay system: γ-interferon(IFNg), interleukin(IL)-10, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, interferon-γ-inducible protein(IP)-10, monocyte chemoattractant protein(MCP)-1, tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α, and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF). We also recorded the intraocular pressure(IOP) of patients in each group and Pearson correlated analysis was performed to analysis the correlation between each type of cytokine with IOP.RESULTS: Vitreous levels of IL-2, IL-5, MCP-1, TNF-α and IP-10 were significantly higher(P<0.05) in AACG group. Patients with AACG, CACG and POAG have higher IOP than senile cataract, but we didn't find any significant correlation between IOP with any type of the cytokines.CONCLUSION: Inflammation and immune reaction have a strong link with the pathology of glaucoma especially AACG. Some cytokines may act as biomarkers to evaluate the severity of glaucoma. | 3 | A numerical study of violent sloshing problems with modified MPS method显示文摘A numerical study on violent liquid sloshing phenomenon in a partially filled rectangular container is carried out by using moving particle semi-implicit(MPS) method. The present study deals with the implementation of five modifications all together over the original MPS method. The modifications include improved source terms for pressure Poisson equation, special approximation technique for the representation of gradient differential operator, collective action of mixed free surface particle identification boundary conditions, effecting Neumann boundary condition on solving the PPE and fixing judiciously the parting distance among particles to prevent collision. The suitability of the kernel function used in the original MPS method along with these five modifications is investigated for violent sloshing problems. The present model ensures a good agreement between numerical results with the existing experimental observations. The model is successfully applied to a partially filled tank undergoing horizontal sinusoidal excitation to compute the sloshing wave amplitudes and pressure on tank walls. | 4 | Prediction of the position of coal particles in an air dense medium fluidized bed system显示文摘An air dense medium fluidized bed separator(ADMFBS) is used for dry beneficiation of coal using ultrafine magnetite particles as a pseudo-fluid medium. In this process, the coal particle gains additional weight due to coating on its surface and deposition at dead zone area by fine magnetite particles.Hence, the effective density of coal particle increases and the position of coal particle changes accordingly. In this work, an attempt was made to predict the position of coal particle in non-bubbling condition dense medium fluidized bed system. Coal particles of different shape such as cubical, rectangular prism,spherical and triangular prism with different projected area and density were used. The results show that the position of coal particle in air dense medium fluidized bed follows descending order with respect to the increase of density, projected area of coal particle and different shapes(i.e., triangular prism, cubical,rectangular prism and spherical). | 6 | Comparison of the efficacy of anti-VEGF monotherapy versus PDT and intravitreal anti-VEGF combination treatment in AMD: a Meta-analysis and systematic review显示文摘AIM:To compare the effect of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) monotherapy versus photodynamic therapy(PDT) and anti-VEGF combination treatment in age-related macular degeneration(AMD).METHODS:A computerized online search was performed using PubMed,Web of Science and the Cochrane Library.Studies that compared anti-VEGF monotherapy with PDT and anti-VEGF combination treatment of AMD and were designed as randomized controlled trials were included.The means and standard deviations of the best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),central retinal thickness(CRT),number of treatments and proportions of patients who gained BCVA ≥15,10,5,or 0 letters at 12^(th) month were extracted.A systematic review and Meta-analysis of the comparison of the two approaches was conducted using Review Manager 5.2.Subgroup.A sensitivity analysis was also performed.RESULTS:Eight studies were included.When the subgroup and sensitivity analysis was conducted,the results indicated that in the findings that included the monotherapy group and PDT(standard fluence,SF)group of Kaiser's study,the patients in the monotherapy group had a better BCVA compared with the combination group at 12^(th) month in the PDT(SF) subgroup[weighted mean difference(WMD):3.54;95% Cl:0.36 to 6.73;P=0.03],and there were more patients who gained ≥15 letters of BCVA in the monotherapy group compared with the combination group in the total result[odds ratio(OR):1.41;95% Cl:1.02 to 1.95;P=0.04].The same conclusion was obtained in the total result that included the monotherapy group and PDT(reduced fluence,RF)group of Kaiser's study(OR:1.56;95% CI:1.13 to 2.15;P=0.007).However,there were no significant differences in the other indexes between the two therapies.CONCLUSION:We found that anti-VEGF monotherapy is more effective on the recovery of visual acuity than combination therapy and more researches with lager sample size should be performed to study on the effect of the two therapy approaches on CRT and number of injections. | Yao Tong Ke-ke Zhao Dong Feng Manas Biswal Pei-Quan Zhao Zhao-Yang Wang Yun Zhang | 2016 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,7: | 3 |
| 7 | Study on kinetics of thermal decomposition of low LOI goethetic hematite iron ore显示文摘In the present study, the kinetics of thermal decomposition of hydrated minerals associated in natural hematite iron ores has been investigated in a fixed bed system using isothermal methods of kinetic analysis. Hydrated minerals in these hematite iron ores are kaolinite, gibbsite and goethite, which contribute to the loss on ignition(LOI) during thermal decomposition. Experiments in fixed bed have been carried out at variable bed depth(16, 32, 48 and 64 mm),temperature(400-1200 ℃) and residence time(30,45, 60 and 75 min) for iron ore samples. It is observed that beyond a certain critical bed depth(16 mm), 100% removal of LOI is not found possible even at higher temperature and higher residence time. Most of the solid-state reactions of isothermal kinetic analysis have been used to analyze the reaction mechanism. The raw data are modified to yield fraction reacted 'α' versus time and used for developing various forms of 'α' functions.f(α) is the inverse of first derivative of g(α) with respect to α. The study demonstrates that decomposition of hydrated mineral in hematite follows the chemical kinetics.The estimated activation energy values in all the experimental situations are found to high, of the order of 60 kJ/mol, reinstating that the reactions are indeed controlled by moving phase boundary and random nucleation. | Beuria P.C. | 8 | Nrf2 is required for normal postnatal bone acquisition in mice显示文摘A large body of literature suggests that bone metabolism is susceptible to the ill effects of reactive species that accumulate in the body and cause cellular dysfunction. One of the body's front lines in defense against such damage is the transcription factor, Nrf2. This transcription factor regulates a plethora of antioxidant and cellular defense pathways to protect cells from such damage. Despite the breadth of knowledge of both the function of Nrf2 and the effects of reactive species in bone metabolism, the direct role of Nrf2 in skeletal biology has yet to be thoroughly examined. Thus, in the current study, we have examined the role of Nrf2 in postnatal bone metabolism in mice. Mice lacking Nrf2(Nrf22/2) exhibited a marked deficit in postnatal bone acquisition,which was most severe at 3 weeks of age when osteoblast numbers were 12-fold less than observed in control animals. While primary osteoblasts from Nrf22/2mice functioned normally in vitro, the colony forming capacity of bone marrow stromal cells(BMSCs) from these mice was significantly reduced compared to controls.This defect could be rescued through treatment with the radical scavenger N-acetyl cysteine(NAC), suggesting that increased reactive species stress might impair early osteoblastogenesis in BMSCs and lead to the failure of bone acquisition observed in Nrf22/2animals. | 9 | Study on mixing and segregation behaviors in particulate fluidized bed system for mineral processing显示文摘In order to identify the mixing and segregation behaviors in a mineral processing operation, present study aimed on the hydrodynamics of solid–liquid fluidization. The study was carried out in a fluidization column with tapings at different height of the bed to collect the sample. The binary particles considered in this study are hematite(4800 kg/m3) and quartz(2600 kg/m3) at different size fractions in the range of average size 87×10^(-6)m to 400×10^(-6)m. It is observed that for various binary mixtures, both quartz and hematite particles share the equal composition by mass(50%) at a particular height of fluidized bed, referred as ‘‘locus point'' of mixing. Study indicates that the mixing zone volume will increase for a continuous fluidized bed plant operation. It is observed that the number of locus points varies from 1 to 3 signifying their dependency on the size ratios of binary mixture. Whenever, the difference in terminal velocity between quartz and hematite particles approaches to zero, mixing is enhanced.Further, the present study is extended to find the segregation index for the different size ratios of quartz and hematite particles. | 10 | Diagnostic assays developed for the control of foot-andmouth disease in India显示文摘Foot-and-mouth disease(FMD) is a highly contagious and economically devastating disease of livestock, primarily affecting cattle, buffalo and pigs. FMD virus serotypes O, A and Asia1 are prevalent in India and systematic efforts are on to control and eventually eradicate the disease from the country. FMD epidemiology is complex due to factors like co-circulation, extinction, emergence and re-emergence of genotypes/lineages within the three serotypes, animal movement, diverse farm practices and large number of susceptible livestock in the country. Systematic vaccination, prompt diagnosis, strict biosecurity measures, and regular monitoring of vaccinal immunity and surveillance of virus circulation are indispensible features for the effective implementation of the control measures. Availability of suitable companion diagnostic tests is very important in this endeavour. | 12 | Circulatory and hepatic failure at admission predicts mortality of severe scrub typhus patients: A prospective cohort study显示文摘Objective:To study the spectrum and outcome of severe scrub typhus in adult patients and to predict the hospital mortality by organ failure on admission.Methods:This was a prospective observational cohort study conducted between July 2017 and October 2020 at the medical emergency centre of PGIMER,Chandigarh,India.One hundred and twenty-six patients aged≥13 years were diagnosed with scrub typhus.Severe disease was defined as the presence of organ failure based on the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment(SOFA)score on admission.Results:About two-thirds of the patients were from geographic regions outside the endemic sub-Himalayan belt.Fever(99.21%)and dyspnea(79.36%)were the most frequent complaints.Respiratory failure(81.75%)was the most common organ failure,followed by hepatic(52.38%),coagulative(47.62%),circulatory(33.33%),renal(21.43%),and cerebral dysfunction(13.49%).The median(Q1,Q3)SOFA score was 8(6,9),and 48.41%of the patients had a quick-SOFA score≥2.Organ supports with invasive ventilation(40.48%),vasopressors(36.51%),and renal replacement therapy(7.14%)were frequently required.The in-hospital mortality was 11.90% and was independently predicted by circulatory and hepatic failures on multivariate logistic regression(OR 11.12,95%CI 1.73-71.31 and OR 8.49,95%CI 1.18-61.41,respectively).Conclusions:Most patients had pulmonary dysfunction;circulatory or hepatic failure on admission strongly predicts death. | Ashok Kumar Pannu Atul Saroch Saurabh Chandrabhan Sharda Manoj Kumar Debnath Manisha Biswal Navneet Sharma | 2021 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2021,14,5: | 2 |
