GIS based Landslide Susceptibility Mapping of Tevankarai Ar Sub-watershed,Kodaikkanal,India using Binary Logistic Regression Analysis显示文摘Landslide susceptibility mapping is the first step in regional hazard management as it helps to understand the spatial distribution of the probability of slope failure in an area.An attempt is made to map the landslide susceptibility in Tevankarai Ar subwatershed,Kodaikkanal,India using binary logistic regression analysis.Geographic Information System is used to prepare the database of the predictor variables and landslide inventory map, which is used to build the spatial model of landslide susceptibility. The model describes the relationship between the dependent variable(presence and absence of landslide) and the independent variables selected for study(predictor variables) by the best fitting function.A forward stepwise logistic regression model using maximum likelihood estimation is used in the regression analysis. An inventory of 84 landslides and cells within a buffer distance of 10m around the landslide is used as the dependent variable.Relief, slope, aspect, plan curvature, profile curvature, land use, soil, topographic wetness index, proximity to roads and proximity to lineaments are taken as independent variables. The constant and the coefficient of the predictor variable retained by the regression model are used to calculate the probability of slope failure and analyze the effect of each predictor variable on landslide occurrence in thestudy area. The model shows that the most significant parameter contributing to landslides is slope. The other significant parameters are profile curvature, soil, road, wetness index and relief. The predictive logistic regression model is validated using temporal validation data-set of known landslide locations and shows an accuracy of 85.29 %. | Sujatha E RAMANI Kumarvel PITCHAIMANI Victor Rajamanickam GNANAMANICKAM | 2011 | Journal of Mountain Science2011,8,4: | 11
Antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of Hypsizygus ulmarius polysaccharide on alcoholic liver injury in rats显示文摘Hypsizygus ulmarius polysaccharide(HUP)is a water-soluble polysaccharide obtained by hot water extraction, followed by precipitation and deproteinization. The characteristics of HUP,antioxidant activity and liver protection against alcohol-induced liver damage were studied.Structural characteristics indicate that the HUP is a pyran-type polysaccharide with a molecular weight of 2076 Da.In antioxidant scavenging assay,HUP showed moderate DMPD radical scavenging activity, cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity and inhibitory effect against lipid peroxidation in a dose-dependent manner.Regarding in vivo hepatoprotective activity, compared with the ethanol induction group,pre-treatment of low and high doses of HUP signifi cantly reduced the behaviours of serum enzymes, lowered the levels of hepatic oxidative stress markers, restored the levels of biochemical constituents, enhanced the levels of liver and serum enzymatic antioxidants and non-enzymatic antioxidants, and improved the serum lipid levels of alcohol-intoxicated rats. The hepatoprotective effect of HUP was comparable to positive control silymarin.Besides,HUP pre-treatment signifi cantly normalized the histopathological changes induced by ethanol. The results indicate that HUP could be used as a functional food and may protect the biological system from oxidative stress through its antioxidant activity, thus having a signifi cant protective effect on acute alcoholic liver injury. | Sudha Govindan Angu Jayabal Jayasakthi Shanmugam Prasanna Ramani | 2021 | Food Science and Human Wellness2021,10,4: | 6
Leaf Photosynthetic Activity and Antioxidant Defense Associated with Sub1 QTL in Rice Subjected to Submergence and Subsequent Re-aeration显示文摘The influence of submergence on photosynthesis and antioxidant capacities in rice varieties Swarna and Swarna-Sub1 with or without Sub1 QTL were evaluated under control, simulated complete submergence and subsequent re-aeration.The leaf photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance decreased in the both varieties during the progression of submergence as compared to the control plants, but significant varietal differences were observed after 1 d of submergence.Submergence also altered the PSII activity,as reflected in a decrease in the values of Fo,Fm and Fv/Fm and degradation of chlorophyll, more in Swarna than in Swarna-Sub1.During early submergence period, the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD),ascorbate peroxidase(APX),dehydroascorbate reductase(DHAR),glutathione reductase(GR) against reactive oxygen species were increased in the both varieties. However, with the progress of submergence period(after 7 d),the activities of SOD,catalase(CAT),APX,guaiacol peroxidase(GPX),GR and DHAR declined, more in Swarna than in Swarna-Sub1.During re-aeration,Swarna-Sub1 showed significant increase of above antioxidant enzymes but not in Swarna.Swarna-Sub1 improves photosynthetic activity, showing higher photosynthetic rate compared to Swarna under submergence and subsequent re-aeration because of less degradation of chlorophyll, higher stomatal conductance, and efficient PSII activity along with better antioxidant protection from oxidative damage. | Debabrata PANDA Ramani Kumar SARKAR | 2012 | Rice science2012,19,2: | 5
Methionine adenosyltransferases in liver health and diseases显示文摘Methionine adenosyltransferases(MATs)are essential for cell survival because they catalyze the biosynthesis of the biological methyl donor S-adenosylmethionine(SAMe)from methionine and adenosine triphosphate(ATP).Mammalian cells express two genes,MAT1A and MAT2A,which encode two MAT catalytic subunits,α1 andα2,respectively.Theα1 subunit organizes into dimers(MATIII)or tetramers(MATI).Theα2 subunit is found in the MATII isoform.A third gene MAT2B,encodes a regulatory subunit b,that regulates the activity of MATII by lowering the inhibition constant(Ki)for SAMe and the Michaelis constant(Km)for methionine.MAT1A expressed mainly in hepatocytes maintains the differentiated state of these cells whereas MAT2A and MAT2B are expressed in non-parenchymal cells of the liver(hepatic stellate cells[HSCs]and Kupffer cells)and extrahepatic tissues.A switch from the liverspecific MAT1A to MAT2A has been observed during conditions of active liver growth and dedifferentiation.Liver injury, fibrosis, and cancer are associated with MAT1A silencing and MAT2A/MAT2B induction.Even though both MAT1A and MAT2A are involved in SAMe biosynthesis, they exhibit distinct molecular interactions in liver cells. This review provides an update on MAT genes and their roles in liver pathologies. | Komal Ramani Shelly C.Lu | 2017 | Liver Research2017,1,2: | 5
Cognitive Radios: A Survey On Spectrum Sensing, Security and Spectrum Handoff显示文摘Pervasive wireless computing and communication have created an ever-increasing demand for more radio spectrum. Since, most of the spectrum is underutilized, it motivated the introduction of the concept of cognitive radios, a dynamic spectrum access enabling technology. The first stage of cognitive radio is to sense the environment and determine which parts of the spectrum are available. This is achieved through spectrum sensing. However, spectrum sensing poses the most fundamental challenge in cognitive radios. Moreover, cognitive radios suffer from many vulnerabilities and the security attacks can severely degrade the performance of cognitive radios. This paper surveys state-of-theart research on spectrum sensing and security threats in cognitive radios. Lastly, we also consider the analysis of issues related to spectrum handoffs in cognitive radios. | Vishakha Ramani Sanjay K.Sharma | 2017 | China Communications2017,14,11: | 4
Physiological Basis of Stagnant Flooding Tolerance in Rice显示文摘Stagnant flooding(SF) is an important constraint which prolonges partial submergence damages of rice plants and reduces grain yield. Due to the heterogeneity in flood-prone ecosystem, many different types of traditional rice varieties are being grown by the farmers. The local landraces adapted to extreme in water availability could be the sources of new gene(s) which would be utilized to improve the adaptability of rice to SF with high yield. The main goal of this study is to identify new genetic resources tolerant to SF based on morpho-physiological traits. A total of 16 rice varieties were selected after initial screening from more than 400 rice varieties which were collected from eastern states of India. The increase rate of plant height was higher under SF compared to control, whereas no such trend was observed in the increment rate of aboveground total dry weight and culm dry weight. Area of aerenchyma gas spaces per tiller increased whereas root oxidase activity decreased under SF. The reduction of root oxidase activity, leaf area, and leaf dry weight was higher in susceptible varieties under SF compared to control. Stability index for different grain yield and yield attributes revealed that the impact of SF differed among different varieties. Correlation coefficient studies among different parameters taking stability index showed significant association with the grain yield. Based on the findings, it was concluded that maintenance of equivalent panicle weight and panicle number, plant height and harvest index at the maturity stage, leaf area, leaf and culm dry weights, root oxidase activity and tiller numbers at the flowering stage under SF compared to control help the plant to counteract the adverse effects of SF. | Sandhya R.KUANAR Anuprita RAY Santosh K.SETHI Krishnendu CHATTOPADHYAY Ramani K.SARKAR | 2017 | Rice science2017,24,2: | 4

Watershed Prioritization of Palar Sub-watershed Based on the Morphometric and Land Use Analysis显示文摘Morphometric analysis is an indispensable tool for hydrological investigation that involves the development and management of drainage basin. This study characterizes the micro watersheds in the Palar sub-watershed using morphometric analysis and assesses its risk by land use and land cover features in a particular micro watershed. Palar sub-watershed is divided into 6 micro watersheds for prioritization based on morphometric and land use analysis. Several morphometric parameters(linear, shape and relief)are determined from the drainage map; ranks are assigned based on their capacity to induce erodability and degradation. Final ranking is based on the composite index calculated from the sum of the ranks of each morphometric parameter. Morphometric analysis reveals micro watersheds 5 and 6 as most susceptible and 2 and 3 as low susceptible. Land use is mapped using IRS ID LISS III satellite data. The risk in terms of watershed degradation involved to each micro watershed is based on the ranks of each land use feature, obtained from a similar composite index as that of morphometric analysis. Land use analysis shows that micro watersheds 2 and 4 fall under high priority category while 5 and 6 under low priority category. Integration of the morphometric and land use analysis shows that only micro watershed 1 falls under the same category in both analyses. Control measures are suggested to contain degradation depending on its specific land use pattern and morphometric features. This study can be used to prepare a comprehensive watershed plan for the development or for planning resource conservation strategies, by integrating land use features with the drainage characteristics of the region, in particular for a hill ecosystem as the prioritization is at micro level. | Evangelin Ramani SUJATHA Radhakrishnan SELVAKUMAR Balasubramaniam RAJASIMMAN | 2014 | Journal of Mountain Science2014,11,4: | 2

Understanding Spatial Genome Organization:Methods and Insights显示文摘The manner by which eukaryotic genomes are packaged into nuclei while maintaining crucial nuclear functions remains one of the fundamental mysteries in biology. Over the last ten years, we have witnessed rapid advances in both microscopic and nucleic acid-based approaches to map genome architecture, and the application of these approaches to the dissection of higherorder chromosomal structures has yielded much new information. It is becoming increasingly clear, for example, that interphase chromosomes form stable, multilevel hierarchical structures. Among them, self-associating domains like so-called topologically associating domains(TADs) appear to be building blocks for large-scale genomic organization. This review describes features of these broadly-defined hierarchical structures, insights into the mechanisms underlying their formation, our current understanding of how interactions in the nuclear space are linked to gene regulation, and important future directions for the field. | Vijay Ramani Jay Shendure Zhijun Duan | 2016 | Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2016,14,1: | 2
