1Estimation of internal nutrient release in large shallow Lake Taihu, China显示文摘Based on field investigation of wave, sediment suspension and the changes in nutrient concentration of the water column in Lake Taihu, China, we proposed two release models to quantify nutrient release under static and dynamic conditions, respectively. Under static conditions, nutrient release from sediments to the overlying water mainly depends on chemical diffusion induced by concentration gradient, in which the nutrient release is controlled by the temperature, dissolved oxygen concentration in the sediment-water interface, oxidation-reduction potential and the concentration difference between porewater and overlying water. Under dynamic condition (or disturbed condition),both dissolved and particulate nutrients in sediments are released into the water column because of wind-induced sediment suspension. The amount of nutrient release under dynamic conditions is larger than that under the static condition. The release of dissolved nutrients, however, does not increase because the wind induced turbulence made oxidation of metallic elements such as Fe (ferric iron), Mn which are capable of precipitating soluble reactive phosphate (SRP). Under dynamic conditions, therefore, the release of total phosphorus (TP) increases dramatically but the release of SRP is close to those under static conditions. In sediments of Lake Taihu, high Fe content leads to a high ratio of Fe to P contents in sediments (Fe:P ratio). Under dynamic conditions, therefore, nutrient release is controlled by the intensity of disturbance, sediment consolidation and nutrient content in sediments.As for dissolved nutrients, especially SRP, the release is also controlled by the intensity of dynamic re-oxidation, Fe content in sediments and nutrient concentration gradient between porewater and overlying water. Based on these two release modes, the release flux in Lake Taihu has been estimated. In the static condition (i.e. laboratory experimental condition), total release of NH4+-N for whole lake is ca. 10,000 ton/a, and PO43--P is ca. 900 ton/a. In the dynamic condition, nutrient release following sediment suspension was estimated according to three different intensities of wind forcing which were defined as 'calm' (wind speed is less than 2 m/s), 'gentle' (wind speed is greater than 2 m/s and less than 6 m/s) and 'gust' (wind speed is greater than 6 m/s). The release rate in the condition of 'calm' was estimated in terms of the nutrient release in the laboratory experimental static condition; whereas the release rate in conditions of 'gentle' and 'gust' was estimated in terms of measurement during sediment resuspension conducted in flume experiments. With the observation of wind velocity and frequency in 2001, each type of wind forcing took the frequency of 12%, 82% and 6% for 'calm', 'gentle' and 'gust', respectively. 7Fibroadhesive scarring of grafted collagen scaffolds interferes with implant–host neural tissue integration and bridging in experimental spinal cord injury显示文摘Severe traumatic spinal cord injury(SCI)results in a devastating and permanent loss of function,and is currently an incurable condition.It is generally accepted that future intervention strategies will require combinational approaches,including bioengineered scaffolds,to support axon growth across tissue scarring and cystic cavitation.Previously,we demonstrated that implantation of a microporous type-I collagen scaffold into an experimental model of SCI was capable of supporting functional recovery in the absence of extensive implant–host neural tissue integration.Here,we demonstrate the reactive host cellular responses that may be detrimental to neural tissue integration after implantation of collagen scaffolds into unilateral resection injuries of the adult rat spinal cord.Immunohistochemistry demonstrated scattered fibroblast-like cell infiltration throughout the scaffolds as well as the presence of variable layers of densely packed cells,the fine processes of which extended along the graft–host interface.Few reactive astroglial or regenerating axonal profiles could be seen traversing this layer.Such encapsulation-type behaviour around bioengineered scaffolds impedes the integration of host neural tissues and reduces the intended bridging role of the implant.Characterization of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning this behaviour will be pivotal in the future design of collagen-based bridging scaffolds intended for regenerative medicine.Haktan Altinova Sebastian Hammes Moniek Palm Jose Gerardo-Nava Pascal Achenbach Ronald Deumens Emmanuel Hermans Tobias Fuhrmann Arne Boecker Sabien Geraldine Antonia van Neerven Ahmet Bozkurt Joachim Weis Gary Anthony Brook 2019Regenerative Biomaterials2019,6,2:4

11Relationships between personality traits and the physiological stress response in a wild mammal显示文摘Glucocorticoids(GCs)are involved in the regulation of an animal's energetic state.Under stressful situations,they are part of the neuroendocrine response to cope with environmental challenges.Animals react to aversive stimuli also through behavioral responses,defined as coping styles.Both in captive and wild populations,individuals differ in their behavior along a proactive-reactive continuum.Proactive animals exhibit a bold,active explorative and social personality,whereas reactive ones areshy,less active-explorative and less social.Here,we test the hypothesis that personality traits and physiological responses to stressors covary,with more proactive individuals having a less pronounced GC stress response.In wild populations of invasive gray squirrels Sciurus carolinensis,we measuredfecal glucocorticoid metabolites(FGMs),an integrated measure of circulating GCs,and 3 personality traits(activity,sociability,and exploration)derived from open field test(OFT)and mirror image stimulation(MIS)test.Gray squirrels had higher FGMs in Autumn than in Winter and males with scrotal testes had higher FGMs than nonbreeding males.Personality varied with body mass and population density.Squirrels expressed more activity exploration at higher than at lower density and heavier squirrels had higher scores for activity exploration than animals that weighed less.Variation in FGM concentrations was not correlated with the expression of the 3 personality traits.Hence,our results do not support a strong association between the behavioral and physiological stress responses but show that in wild populations,where animals experience varying environmental conditions,the GC endocrine response and the expression of personality are uncorrelated traits among individuals.Francesca SANTICCHIA Lucas A.WAUTERS Ben DANTZER Sarah E.WESTRICK Nicola FERRARI Claudia ROMEO Rupert PALME Damiano G.PREATONI Adriano MARTINOLI 2020Current Zoology2020,66,2:2

13髋关节畸形的发生率及其与性别、腹股沟痛和骨关节炎发病风险的关系——一项人口调查研究显示文摘背景:关于股骨髋臼撞击症的临床结果已有较多阐述,但对髋关节解剖畸形在一般人群中的发生率、自然病史和骨关节炎发生风险评估的研究甚少。方法:此抽样调查资料来源于1991至1994年哥本哈根骨关节炎子研究的4151例人口调查影像学及问卷调查队列研究数据。调查对象主要为丹麦哥本哈根sterbro地区的白人。符合纳入标准的男性1332名,女性2288名。根据影像学标准,髋关节被分为无畸形或有畸形,畸形中包括臼窝过深、枪柄样畸形和臼窝过深合并枪柄样畸形。髋关节骨关节炎影像学上定义为最小关节间隙宽度≤21mm。结果:3620名调查对象中髓臼发育不良的发生率为男4.3%,女3.6%:臼窝过深为男15.2%,女19.4%;枪柄样畸形为男19.6%,女5.2%;臼窝过深合并枪柄样畸形为男2.9%,女0.9%。正常髋臼顶比例为男80.7%,女77.0%。我们发现影像学上显示有髋关节畸形的调查对象其腹股沟痛的发生率无显著增加(P均〉0.13)。臼窝过深是骨关节炎发生的一个显著危险因素(风险比为2.4),枪柄样畸形亦为显著危险因素(风险比为2.2)。髋臼发育不良及性别不是髋关节骨关节炎发生的显著危险因素(P值分别为0.053和0.063)。靛关节骨关节炎发生率为男9.5%,女11.2%。髋关节骨关节炎并发畸形的发生率为男71.o%,女36.6%。结论:本组调查对象中,臼窝过深及枪柄样畸形是比较常见的影像学改变,与髋关节骨关节炎的发生风险增加相关。与髋关节畸形相关的骨关节炎高发生率提示我们应该更多地关注髋关节的早期畸形。Kasper Kjaerlf Gosvig Steffen Jacobsen Sfig Sonne-Holm Henrik Palm Anders Troelsen 付勤(译) 2010中华骨科杂志2010,30,12:2

17Selenium Regulation of Selenium-dependent Glutathione Peroxidases in Animals and Transfected CHO Cells显示文摘Glutathione peroxidase (GPX1) was the first identified selenium-dependent enzyme, and this enzyme has been most useful as a biochemical indicator of selenium (Se) status and the parameter of choice for determining Se requirements. We have continued to study Se regulation of GPX1 to better understand the underlying mechanism and to gain insight into how cells themselves regulate nutrient status. In progressive Se deficiency in rats, GPX1 activity,protein and mRNA all decrease in a dramatic, coordinated and exponential fashion such that Se-deficient GPX1 mRNA levels are 6-15% of Sexadequate levels. mRNA levels for other Sedependent proteins are far less decreased in the same animals. The mRNA levels for a second Se-dependent peroxidase, phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (GPX4 ), are little affected by Se deficiency, demonstrating that Se regulation of GPX1 is unique. Se regulation of GPX1 activity in growing male and female rats shows that the Se requirernent is 100 ng/g diet, based on liver GPX1 activity; use of GPX1 mRNA as the parameter indicates that the Se requirement is nearer to 50 ng Se/g diet in both male and female rats. This approach will readily detect an altered dietary Se requirement, as shown by the incremental increases in dietary Se requirement by 150, 100 or 50 ng Se/g diet in Seudeficient rat pups repleted with Se for 3, 7 or 14 d, respectively. Studies with CHO cells stably transfected with recombinant GPX1 also show that overexpression of GPX1 does not alter the minimum level of media Se necessary for Se-adequate levels of GPX1 activity or mRNA. We hypothesize that classical GPX1 has an integral biological role in the mechanism used by cells to regulate Se status,making GPX1 an especially useful and effective parameter for determining Se requirements inROGER A.
