1Brucellosis in China:history,progress and challenge显示文摘Brucellosis is a neglected zoonosis.It causes acute febrile illness and a potentially debilitating chronic infection in humans,and livestock infection has substantial socioeconomic impact.Over the past two decades,improvements have been made to better understand the various aspects of human and animal brucellosis.Meanwhile,especially in the developing world,immense challenges that remain in controlling and eradicating brucellosis are novel diagnostics tools and efficacious vaccines.Here,we will focus on the remarkable issues on epidemiological survey,as well as the priority and challenge of brucellosis in China.Brucellosis will be controlled with meaningful collaboration between local and public partnerships effectively applying a One Health framework.Hai Jiang David O’Callaghan Jia-Bo Ding 2020Infectious Diseases of Poverty2020,9,3:25

5ON THE USE OF A SYSTEM-SCALE ASCENT/DESCENT DIAGNOSTIC FOR SHORT-TERM FORECASTING OF TROPICAL CYCLONE DEVELOPMENT,INTENSIFICATION AND DECAY显示文摘The Brisbane Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre has used two forms of a thermal advection diagnostic to identify relatively large areas of isentropic ascent and descent for many years. When the thermodynamic conditions are favourable the ascent regions are correlated with significant outbreaks of convection that produce heavy rainfall. The diagnostic is based on the relationship between geostrophic winds that turn with height and flow perpendicular to thickness contours. As the relationship is also valid for the more general case of gradient winds, the diagnostic, in theory, should be useful for most heavy-rain-bearing tropical systems. A climatology of rainfall rate with one form of the diagnostic is presented at two Queensland locations(one tropical and one subtropical) that demonstrates a clear relationship between the isentropic ascent wind distribution and heavy to extreme rainfall.The diagnostics applied to numerical weather prediction models are valuable forecast tools as they identify heavy rainfall threat regions within which the extreme rain is likely to fall, whereas the rainfall from the same models is often under predicted or has large location errors. Applied to tropical lows and tropical cyclones the diagnostics have been used successfully to forecast tropical cyclone formation and rapid intensification and decay. 6ASYMMETRIC INNER CORE CONVECTION LEADING TO TROPICAL CYCLONE INTENSIFICATION显示文摘One of the predictors used to forecast the rapid intensification of Tropical Cyclones(RI) is the symmetry of inner core convection which used infrared(IR) satellite imagery in the determination of this structure. This has led Forecasters and Researchers to conclude the symmetry of inner core convection was an important factor in RI. However we showed here using examples of RI that IR satellite imagery was not always a good guide to determine symmetry of inner core convection especially in the early stages of RI. However it has been previously shown that the heat released in these highly asymmetric convective bands may be transformed into the kinetic energy of the quasi-symmetric wind field and the available potential energy associated with the warm core. One of the most rapid RI cases had asymmetric inner core convection early in a six hour period where the Central Pressure dropped 29 h Pa and the sustained wind speed increased by 55 knots(28.3 ms-1). In other cases, where there was available inner core data, the inner core convection developed in a region where microwave imagery indicated asymmetric inner core convection. The convection was located where Dropsonde winds and Doppler radar winds from reconnaissance aircraft indicated a warm air advection pattern in that the winds turned anticyclonically with height in the lowest 5 km of the atmosphere. Updrafts from this strong convection near the eye become upward extending centres of cyclonic vorticity and may also produce warming in the eye with adjacent broad subsiding currents. It was shown that models could not forecast the RI of severe tropical cyclone Marcia as recently as February 2015. In this case convection was formed more vigorously on the western flank under the influence of a warm air advection wind pattern and convection remained mostly on this western side as RI proceeded. This process needs to be understood on its influence on the models failing to forecast RI. Rare Doppler wind of Hurricane Hermine showed the wind structure as a band a convection on the storm's eastern flank rapidly transformed into circular bands of convection as warm air advection winds increased around the inner core.JEFF CALLAGHAN 2017Tropical Cyclone Research and Review2017,6,3:2
7BRAF inhibitor treatment of melanoma causing colonic polyps:An alternative hypothesis显示文摘Colonic polyps may arise from BRAF inhibitor treatment of melanoma, possibly due paradoxical activation of the mitogen-activated protein(MAP)-kinase pathway. In an alternative evidence based scenario, tubular colonic adenomas with APC gene mutations have also been identified in the context of BRAF inhibitor treatment, in the absence of mutations of MAPK genes. A minority of colorectal cancers develop by an alternative 'serrated polyp pathway'. This article postulates a novel hypothesis, that the established phenotypic and molecular characteristics of serrated colonic polyps/CRC offer an intriguing insight into the pathobiology of BRAF inhibitor induced colonic polyps. Serrated polyps are characterized by a Cp G island methylation phenotype, MLH1 silencing and cellular senescence. They also have BRAF mutations. 10Assessment of Neurotoxicity: Use of Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein as a Biomarker显示文摘.Diverse neurotoxic insults result in proliferation and hypertrophy of astricytes.The hallmark of this response is enhanced expression of the major intermediate filament protein of astrocytes,glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP). 13A DIAGNOSTIC FROM VERTICAL WIND PROFILES FOR DETECTING EXTREME RAINFALL显示文摘The damage and loss of life from fresh water flooding as Tropical Cyclones move inland and towards higher latitudes rivals the losses at the point of landfall. This makes it extremely important to understand the structure of these systems as some such events produce much less damaging rainfall. Extreme rainfall and major flooding events are studied around the Globe to examine the likely structure of weather systems which produce extreme rainfall. An extensive search for rare radio-sonde data has been carried out near where extreme rainfall and flooding has been reported. In almost every case atmospheric moisture content is high and the low-level wind direction turns anti-cyclonically with increasing height up to 500 h Pa. The rare exception to the rule is when tropical thunderstorms generate extreme rainfall. This study extends previous work in Eastern Australia by showing that the link between turning winds and rainfall exists in both the tropics and temperate zones, and the link applies in cases of extreme rainfall and associated major flooding.JEFF CALLAGHAN 2017Tropical Cyclone Research and Review2017,6,3:2
