1Association of apolipoprotein E 4 polymorphism with cerebral infarction in Chinese Han population显示文摘AIM: To study the association between APOE polymorphisms and cerebral infarction through a case-control study among the Chinese Han population. METHODS: First-ever cerebral infarction patients (n=226) whose ages ranged from 40 to 60 years old were recruited from Department of Neurology, Zhongshan Hospital, Shanghai, and Zhejiang Chinese Traditional Medicine Hospital, Zhejiang, China. Unrelated healthy controls (n=201) were selected from the general population in the same area with similar age and sex distribution. APOE was amplified by one-stage PCR using the forward primer: 5’-GGC ACG GCT GTC CAA GGA GCT-3’ and reverse primer: 5’-GAT GGC GCTGAG GCC GCG CT-3’. The PCR product was digested directly with 5 U of CfoI and separated by a 20 % polyacryla- mide (acrylamide: bis-acrylamide=29:1) nondenaturing gel. RESULTS: Both cerebral infarction patient and control groups were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The allele frequency of APOE*2, APOE*3, and APOE*4 was 4.6 %, 81.9 %, and 13.5 % respectively in the patients with cerebral infarction; 5.7 %, 87.3 %, and 7.0 % respectively in the healthy control group. Compared with APOE3/3 subjects, APOE4/4 carriers had a 2.1-fold risk of cerebral infarction (odds ratio 2.1, 95 % confidence limits 1.3 to 3.4). The allele frequency of APOE*4 in the cerebral infarction patient group was significantly higher than that in the control group (13.5 % vs 7.0 %; P=0.002). 3Protic vs aprotic ionic liquid for CO2 fixation:A simulation study显示文摘The cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides catalyzed by ionic liquids(ILs)has been a widely ongoing studied hot topic over the years.Recent experimental research has shown that the protic ionic liquids(PILs)behave stronger hydrogen proton donating ability than aprotic ionic liquids(APILs),and can effectively catalyze the cycloaddition of CO2.Unfortunately,the mechanistic explanation remains primarily unraveled.Herein,a detailed simulation study on the cycloaddition reaction catalyzed by PIL([HDBU][Mim])in comparison with APIL([MeDBU][Mim])re-action catalysts was conducted,including the three-step route(ring-opening of PO(propylene oxide),insertion of CO2 and ring-closure of propylene carbonate(PC))and two-step route(simultaneously ring-opening of PO and addition of CO2,and then ring-closure of PC).Based on the activation energy barrier of the rate-determining step,PIL preferentially activates PO as the optimal route for the reaction with the energy barrier of 23.2 kcal mol-1,while that of APIL is 31.2 kcal mol-1.The role of[HDBU]+in the reaction was also explored and found that the direct formation of intermolecular hydrogen bond(H-bond)between[HDBU]+and the reactants(PO+CO2)was unfavorable for the reaction,while the cooperation with the anion[Mim]-to assist indirectly was more conducive.To fully consider the reaction microenvironment of ILs,ONIOM calculation was used to study the solvent effect.At last,the above conclusions were further verified by the analysis of intermediates with charge,non-covalent interaction(NCI),and atoms in molecules(AIM)methods.The computational findings show that ILs studied in this work have dual functions of catalyst and solvent,enabling a microscopic understanding of the ILs catalyst for CO2 utilization as well as providing guidance for the rational design of more efficient ILs-based catalysts.Wenzhong Sun Meichen Wang Yaqin Zhang Weilu Ding Feng Huo Li Wei Hongyan He 2020Green Energy & Environment2020,5,2:4
4Hydrochemical characteristics and water quality evaluation of shallow groundwater in Suxian mining area,Huaibei coalfield,China显示文摘The aim of this study is to evaluate the hydrogeochemical characteristics and water environmental quality of shallow groundwater in the Suxian mining area of Huaibei coalfield,China.The natural formation process of shallow groundwater in Suxian is explored using Piper trilinear charts and Gibbs diagrams,and by examining the ratios between the major ions.United States Salinity Laboratory(USSL)charts,Wilcox diagrams,and the water quality index(WQI)are further employed to quantify the differences in water quality.The results reveal that the main hydrochemical facies of groundwater are HC03-Ca,and that silicate dissolution is the main factor controlling the ion content in shallow groundwater.The USSL charts and Wilcox diagrams show that most of the water samples would be acceptable for use in irrigation systems.The WQI results for each water sample are compared and analyzed,and the quality of groundwater samples around collapse ponds is found to be relatively poor.Hao Yu Herong Gui Honghai Zhao Meichen Wang Jun Li Hongxia Fang Yaqi Jiang Yaru Zhang 2020International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2020,7,4:3
5Regulation of innate immune responses by rabies virus显示文摘Rabies virus(RABV)is an infectious and neurotropic pathogen that causes rabies and infects humans and almost all warm-blooded animals,posing a great threat to people and public safety.It is well known that innate immunity is the critical first line of host defense against viral infection.It monitors the invading pathogens by recognizing the pathogen-associated molecular patterns and danger-associated molecular patterns through pattern-recognition receptors,leading to the production of type I interferons(IFNα/β),inflammatory cytokines,and chemokines,or the activation of autophagy or apoptosis to inhibit virus replication.In the case of RABV,the innate immune response is usually triggered when the skin or muscle is bitten or scratched.However,RABV has evolved many ways to escape or even hijack innate immune response to complete its own replication and eventually invades the central nervous system(CNS).Once RABV reaches the CNS,it cannot be wiped out by the immune system or any drugs.Therefore,a better understanding of the interplay between RABV and innate immu-nity is necessary to develop effective strategies to combat its infection.Here,we review the innate immune responses induced by RABV and illustrate the antagonism mechanisms of RABV to provide new insights for the control of rabies.Haili Zhang Jingbo Huang Yumeng Song Xingqi Liu Meichen Qian Pei Huang Yuanyuan Li Ling Zhao Hualei Wang 2022Animal Models and Experimental Medicine2022,5,5:2
6Persistence of Cry1Ac Protein from Transgenic Bt Cotton Cultivation and Residue Returning in Fields and Its Effect on Functional Diversity of Soil Microbial Communities显示文摘The persistence of Cry1 Ac protein in the soil and its effect on soil microbial communities are a core issue in assessing the ecological risk of transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt) cotton. In this study a field experiment was conducted on the cultivation of transgenic Bt cotton(Jin 26 and BtJ i 668) with the immediate returning of residues to the fields, in order to quantify the Cry1 Ac protein content in the fields and investigate its effects on the functional diversity of soil microbial communities. Cry1 Ac protein in the residue-soil mixture was gradually degraded in the transgenic Bt cotton fields. After transgenic Bt cotton straw was returned to the fields for 30 d, 63.73%and 58.33% of the initial amounts of Cry1 Ac protein were degraded in the Jin 26 and BtJ i 668 fields, respectively. Before the crops were sown in the following year(180 d after returning the straw), no Cry1 Ac protein was detected in the fields. After returning the cotton straw to the fields for 30 d, the Shannon-Wiener and McIntosh indices of soil microbial communities in the transgenic Bt cotton fields were significantly higher than those in the non-transgenic cotton fields. Meanwhile, the utilization of carbon sources including amino acids, amines, and carbohydrates by the soil microbial communities significantly increased. Both the McIntosh index and the utilization of carbohydrates increased until 180 d. Principal component analysis revealed that amino acids, amides, and carbohydrates were the main carbon sources distinguishing the two principal component factors. 8Decreased bioavailability of aminomethylphosphonic acid(AMPA)in genetically modified corn with activated carbon or calcium montmorillonite clay inclusion in soil显示文摘The widespread use of pesticides has resulted in detectable residues throughout the environment,sometimes at concentrations well above regulatory limits.Therefore,the development of safe,effective,field-practical,and economically feasible strategies to mitigate the effects of pesticides is warranted.Glyphosate is an organophosphorus herbicide that is degraded to aminomethylphosphonic acid(AMPA),a toxic and persistent metabolite that can accumulate in soil and sediment and translocate to plants.In this study,we investigated the binding efficacy of activated carbon(AC)and calcium montmorillonite(CM)clay to decrease AMPA bioavailability from soil and AMPA translocation to plants.Adsorption isotherms and thermodynamic studies on AC and CM were conducted and showed tight binding(enthalpy values>-20 k J/mol)for AMPA with high capacities(0.25 mol/kg and 0.38 mol/kg,respectively),based on derivations from the Langmuir model.A hydra assay was utilized to indicate toxicity of AMPA and the inclusion of 1%AC and CM both resulted in 90%protection of the hydra(**p≤0.01).Further studies in glyphosate-contaminated soil showed that AC and CM significantly reduced AMPA bioavailability by 53%and 44%,respectively.Results in genetically modified(GM)corn showed a conversion of glyphosate to AMPA in roots and sprouts over a 10-day exposure duration.Inclusion of AC and CM reduced AMPA residues in roots and sprouts by 47%-61%.These studies collectively indicate that AC and CM are effective sorbents for AMPA and could be used to reduce AMPA bioavailability from soil and AMPA residues in GM corn plants.Sara E.Hearon Meichen Wang Thomas J.McDonald Timothy D.Phillips 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,2:2

10Pattern Dynamics of Thermal-environment Effect During Urbanization:A Case Study in Shenzhen City,China显示文摘The thermal-environment effect exists in the field of rapid urbanization.It has adverse effects on the urban atmosphere,regional climate,energy consumption,and public health.Shenzhen,a representative of rapidly urbanizing cities in China,was selected as a case for pattern dynamics analysis of the thermal environment.The surface temperature was acquired from the thermal infrared data of Landsat TM and ETM+ images in 1986,1995,and 2005 by Jiménez-Mu?oz and Sobrino's generalized single-channel method,which was used in assessing the distribution and spatial patterns of the thermal environment.The relative thermal environment curve(RTC) was combined with Moran's I analysis to assess the pattern dynamics of the thermal environment in different urbanization periods.Moran's I index and the RTC represent a process of aggregation-fragmentation-aggregation,which shows the aggregation pattern of a decrease during the rapid urbanization period and then an increase during the steady urbanization period.High-temperature areas gradually expanded to a uniform and scattered distribution in the rapid urbanization period;while the high thermal-environment effect was gradually transformed into a steady spatial pattern in the stable urbanization period.To characterize the increasing development in this multiple-center city,we chose profiles along an urban-development axis.The results suggest that heat islands have expanded from internal urban to external urban areas.Four profiles were obtained showing differences in shape due to spatial differences in the process of development.XIE Miaomiao WANG Yanglin FU Meichen ZHANG Dingxuan 2013Chinese Geographical Science2013,23,1:2
11AoATG5 plays pleiotropic roles in vegetative growth,cell nucleus development,conidiation,and virulence in the nematode-trapping fungus Arthrobotrys oligospora显示文摘Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved process in eukaryotes,which is regulated by autophagy-related genes(ATGs).Arthrobotrys oligospora is a representative species of nematode-trapping(NT)fungi that can produce special traps for nematode predation.To elucidate the biological roles of autophagy in NT fungi,we characterized an orthologous Atg protein,AoAtg5,in A.oligospora.We found that AoATG5 deletion causes a significant reduction in vegetative growth and conidiation,and that the transcript levels of several sporulation-related genes were significantly downregulated during sporulation stage.In addition,the cell nuclei were significantly reduced in theΔAoATG5 mutant,and the transcripts of several genes involved in DNA bio-synthesis,repair,and ligation were significantly upregulated.InΔAoATG5 mutants,the autophagic process was significantly impaired,and trap formation and nematocidal activity were significantly decreased.Comparative transcriptome analysis results showed that AoAtg5 is involved in the regulation of multiple cellular processes,such as autophagy,nitrogen metabolism,DNA biosynthesis and repair,and vesicular transport.In summary,our results suggest that AoAtg5 is essential for autophagy and significantly contributes to vegetative growth,cell nucleus development,sporulation,trap formation,and pathogenicity in A.oligospora,thus providing a basis for future studies focusing on related mechanisms of autophagy in NT fungi.Duanxu Zhou Yingmei Zhu Na Bai Le Yang Meihua Xie Jiangliu Yang Meichen Zhu Ke-Qin Zhang Jinkui Yang 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,2:2
12Wood waste biochar promoted anaerobic digestion of food waste:focusing on the characteristics of biochar and microbial community analysis显示文摘Anaerobic digestion(AD)has been considered as a promising technique for food waste(FW)recycling.However,the accumulation of volatile fatty acids(VFAs)restricts the stability of anaerobic reactors.The present study investigated the use of biochar produced at different conditions(750℃-30 min,750℃-60 min,750℃-120 min,550℃-60 min,650℃-60 min,850℃-60 min,950℃-60 min)for enhancing the AD of FW.Batch experiments showed that all the biochar increased the methane production rates and biochar obtained at 750℃-60 min resulted in the highest enhance-ment by 21.5%.It was further showed surface oxygen-containing functional groups and graphitization degree of biochar were the critical factors for improving methane production.Microbial analysis showed that biochar addi-tion formed different microbial communities,and Methanosaeta,Romboutsia,and norank_f_Anaerolineaceae were enriched,which might be correlated with direct interspecies electron transfer(DIET).This research showed biochar could enhance the AD of FW and also revealed the main characteristics of biochar relating with the enhancement of AD.Chao Zhang Rui Yang Meichen Sun Shicheng Zhang Mingjing He Daniel C.W.Tsang Gang Luo 2022Biochar2022,4,1:2

14Novel multi–SO_(3)H functionalized ionic liquids as highly efficient catalyst for synthesis of biodiesel显示文摘Biodiesel is an attractive alternative to fossil fuels due to the energy and environmental concerns. In this paper, seven different multi –SO_(3)H functionalized ILs based on the low-cost less-substituted amines, which contained massive sites for functionalization of sulfonic acid groups and further treatment of sulfonate-based anions, were prepared as catalysts with high acidity and desirable catalytic activity for the synthesis of biodiesel from the esterification of oleic acid with methanol. The physicochemical properties of these acidic ILs were characterized by a variety of analytical techniques such as FT-IR, EA, TGA, and the Br?nsted acidity was well determined by UV–vis. Among the ILs prepared, [EDA-PS][P-TSA] showed the highest catalytic activity for esterification due to its high acidity and appropriate miscibility with reactants, with an ultrahigh97.58% conversion of oleic acid under the optimum conditions(i.e. reaction time, 1.8 h;catalyst amount, 3 wt%;alcohol/acid molar ratio, 13:1,temperature 70℃) acquired from the Box–Behnken response surface methodology. With the novel strategy of multi –SO_(3) H modification on ILs,our catalyst had an approaching or even superior oleic acid conversion rate compared to other reported catalysts with considerably lower catalyst dosage and shorter reaction time. 16Sealing reliability modeling of aviation seal based on interval uncertainty method and multidimensional response surface显示文摘Many variables affect the sealing performance, and their distribution characteristics are difficult to obtain with probabilistic methods owing to the high cost involved. Numerous problems in engineering are similar due to the appearance of small-sample parameters. In this study, the sealing reliability of an aviation seal was defined as the research object, and an interval uncertainty method and multidimensional response surface were proposed to calculate the sealing reliability.Based on this, we first analyzed the failure mechanism of the aviation seal and established a leakage rate model. Then, based on the non-probabilistic interval model, an interval uncertainty method was proposed to construct the analytical model. With reference to the limit state equation from the structural reliability theory, the multidimensional response surface was used for fast calculation.Then, we chose the single-cylinder gas steering gear used in aircraft as the case study, its sealing reliability in working and non-working statuses were calculated, and the results were verified with the actual maintenance records.
