1Meta-analysis of the effects of 1-methylcyclopropene(1-MCP)treatment on climacteric fruit ripening显示文摘1-Methylcyclopropene(1-MCP)is an inhibitor of ethylene perception that is widely used to maintain the quality of several climacteric fruits during storage.A large body of literature now exists on the effects of 1-MCP on climacteric fruit ripening for different species and environmental conditions, presenting an opportunity to use meta-analysis to systematically dissect these effects. We classified 44 ripening indicators of climacteric fruits into five categories:physiology and biochemistry, quality, enzyme activity, color, and volatiles.Meta-analysis showed that 1-MCP treatment reduced 20 of the 44 indicators by a minimum of 22%and increased 6 indicators by at least 20%.These effects were associated with positive effects on delaying ripening and maintaining quality.Of the seven moderating variables,species,1-MCP concentration, storage temperature and time had substantial impacts on the responses of fruit to 1-MCP treatment.Fruits from different species varied in their responses to 1-MCP,with the most pronounced responses observed in rosaceous fruits, especially apple,European pear fruits, and tropical fruits. The effect of gaseous 1-MCP was optimal at 1μl/l,with a treatment time of 12–24 h,when the storage temperature was 0℃for temperate fruits or 20℃for tropical fruits, and when the shelf temperature was 20℃,reflecting the majority of experimental approaches. These findings will help improve the efficacy of 1-MCP application during the storage of climacteric fruits, reduce fruit quality losses and increase commercial value.Jing Zhang Yuanchun Ma Chao Dong Leon A.Terry Christopher B.Watkins Zhifang Yu Zong-Ming(Max)Cheng 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:7
2Current status of ultrasound-guided surgery in the treatment of breast cancer显示文摘The primary goal of breast-conserving surgery(BCS) is to obtain tumour-free resection margins. Margins positive or focally positive for tumour cells are associated with a high risk of local recurrence, and in the case of tumour-positive margins, re-excision or even mastectomy are sometimes needed to achieve definite clear margins. Unfortunately, tumour-involved margins and re-excisions after lumpectomy are still reported in up to 40% of patients and additionally, unnecessary large excision volumes are described. A secondary goal of BCS is the cosmetic outcome and one of the main determinants of worse cosmetic outcome is a large excision volume. Up to 30% of unsatisfied cosm-etic outcome is reported. Therefore, the search for better surgical techniques to improve margin status, excision volume and consequently, cosmetic outcome has continued. Nowadays, the most commonly used localization methods for BCS of non-palpable breast cancers are wire-guided localization(WGL) and radioguided localization(RGL). WGL and RGL are invasive procedures that need to be performed pre-operatively with technical and scheduling difficulties. For palpable breast cancer, tumour excision is usually guided by tactile skills of the surgeon performing 'blind' surgery. One of the surgical techniques pursuing the aims of radicality and small excision volumes includes intraoperative ultrasound(IOUS). The best evidence available demonstrates benefits of IOUS with a significantly high proportion of negative margins compared with other localization techniques in palpable and non-palpable breast cancer. Additionally, IOUS is non-invasive, easy to learn and can centralize the tumour in the excised specimen with low amount of healthy breast tissuebeing excised. This could lead to better cosmetic results of BCS. Despite the advantages of IOUS, only a small amount of surgeons are performing this technique. This review aims to highlight the position of ultrasoundguided surgery for malignant breast tumours in the search for better oncological and cosmetic outcomes.José H Volders Max H Haloua Nicole MA Krekel Sybren Meijer Petrousjka M van den Tol 2016World Journal of Clinical Oncology2016,7,1:6

5Effects of light emitting diode lights on plant growth, development and traits a meta-analysis显示文摘The various monochromatic Light Emitting Diode(LED)lights are widely used in growth facility for cultivating various plants, particularly horticultural crops because of their higher luminous efficiency, lower radiation and power consumption than the traditional white fluorescent lamp light. However, considerable inconsistent effects have been reported in literature. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the effects of different colors of LED light on plant growth, development and various traits.Compared to the light from white fluorescent lamps, the red LED light significantly changed 4 out 26 plant characteristics by at least 37%,and blue LED light significantly increased 5 of 26 assessed characteristics by 37%or more. The combination of red/blue LED lights only significantly increased dry weight by 161%among 25 plant characteristics analyzed.Compared to the white LED light, red LED light significantly decreased 2 of 9 plant characteristics by at least 36%,and blue LED light significantly decreased only 1 of 9 plant characteristics, total chlorophyll content,by 42%.In the moderators analyzed, plant taxonomic families significantly influenced the effects of LED lights on shoot dry weight, and plant life cycles and plant taxonomic families significantly affected the effect on stomatal conductance.Through systematic meta-analysis,we found that the effect of LED on plant growth and quality traits was speciesspecific, and the effect was affected by the cultivation conditions. Therefore,we suggest that researchers be more targeted to experiment, and collect traits associated with practical production, especially related to the quality of product data, such as carotenoids, anthocyanin and other antioxidant compounds. This article is to provide more data with practical application, guide the application of LED in horticultural plant factory.Yuanchun Ma An Xu Zong-Ming(Max)Cheng 2021Horticultural Plant Journal2021,7,6:2

7An automated, 0.5 Hz nano-foil target positioning system for intense laser plasma experiments显示文摘We report on a target system supporting automated positioning of nano-targets with a precision resolution of 4 μm in three dimensions. It relies on a confocal distance sensor and a microscope. The system has been commissioned to position nanometer targets with 1 Hz repetition rate. Integrating our prototype into the table-top ATLAS 300 TW-laser system at the Laboratory for Extreme Photonics in Garching, we demonstrate the operation of a 0.5 Hz laser-driven proton source with a shot-to-shot variation of the maximum energy about 27% for a level of confidence of 0.95. The reason of laser shooting experiments operated at 0.5 Hz rather than 1 Hz is because the synchronization between the nano-foil target positioning system and the laser trigger needs to improve.Ying Gao Jianhui Bin Daniel Haffa Christian Kreuzer Jens Hartmann Martin Speicher Florian H.Lindner Tobias M.Ostermayr Peter Hilz Thomas F.Rsch Sebastian Lehrack Franz Englbrecht Sebastian Seuferling Max Gilljohann Hao Ding Wenjun Ma Katia Parodi Jorg Schreiber 2017High Power Laser Science and Engineering2017,5,2:1
8A review of bio-inspired needle for percutaneous interventions显示文摘Bio-inspired design translates the knowledge of natural or biological structures or behaviors into novel theories and technologies, providing new directions for research and developments.Although the medical needles for percutaneous intervention technology appear to be mature, biomimetic solutions become popular to further facilitate the performance of the medical needles. In this paper,we review the current state of bio-inspired medical needle designs for percutaneous interventions, including a variety of biomimetic mechanisms and insertion strategies.Existing and experimental designs of biomimetic medical needles are classified into five groups with respect to the applications, while their characteristics are identified and discussed.Such classification and discussion will not only provide technical insights into previous studies but also identify undiscovered directions for future research.Yichi Ma Xiao Xiao Hongliang Ren Max Q.-H.Meng 2022Biomimetic Intelligence & Robotics2022,2,4:1

13EISCAT Observations of Main Ionization Troughs in the High-Latitude Ionosphere显示文摘WT5”HZ] F region electron density depletions associated with main ionization troughs in the high latitude ionosphere are studied using EISCAT CP3 data of meridian scanning experiments. The troughs in our observations are found to appear mainly in dusk sector, extending from late afternoon to pre midnight, with higher occurrence rate during equinox and winter. Simultaneous ion drift velocity in F region shows that the main trough minimum is mostly located at the equator ward edge of the plasma convection flow, rather than in the region where the largest ion flow are observed.LIU Peng 1 ,MA Shu ying 1,2 ,K. 17Relevant Region sampling strategy with adaptive heuristic for asymptotically optimal path planning显示文摘Sampling-based planning algorithm is a powerful tool for solving planning problems in highdimensional state spaces. In this article,we present a novel approach to sampling in the most promising regions, which significantly reduces planning time-consumption.The RRT#algorithm defines the Relevant Region based on the cost-to-come provided by the optimal forward-searching tree. However,it uses the cumulative cost of a direct connection between the current state and the goal state as the cost-to-go.To improve the path planning efficiency,we propose a batch sampling method that samples in a refined Relevant Region with a direct sampling strategy, which is defined according to the optimal cost-to-come and the adaptive cost-to-go,taking advantage of various sources of heuristic information. The proposed sampling approach allows the algorithm to build the search tree in the direction of the most promising area, resulting in a superior initial solution quality and reducing the overall computation time compared to related work.To validate the effectiveness of our method,we conducted several simulations in both SE(2)and SE(3)state spaces. And the simulation results demonstrate the superiorities of proposed algorithm.Chenming Li Fei Meng Han Ma Jiankun Wang Max Q-H.Meng 2023Biomimetic Intelligence & Robotics2023,3,3:1
18Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector. Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements, such as its low-energy threshold, high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors, and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors. In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable, assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition, approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected. This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter, which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle. Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better, depending on the central value, and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND experiment.Angel Abusleme Thomas Adam Shakeel Ahmad Sebastiano Aiello Muhammad Akram Nawab Ali Fengpeng An Guangpeng An Qi An Giuseppe Andronico Nikolay Anfimov Vito Antonelli Tatiana Antoshkina Burin 19Subfunctionalization of cation/proton antiporter 1 genes in grapevine in response to salt stress in different organs显示文摘Cation/proton antiporter 1(CPA1)proteins function as regulators of monovalent ions,pH homeostasis, and other developmental processes in plants.Better understanding of the expression and regulation of CPA1 in plant responses to salinity would help the development of scientific practices in crops worldwide. In this report,we characterized all seven CPA1 family genes in grapevine(Vitis vinifera)in response to short-term osmotic and NaCl stresses. We found that two of the seven genes have subfunctionalized to be differentially expressed in response to NaCl stress in the early stage in different organs, whereas the other five members seem to play little or no role in this response.Specifically,VIT_19s0090g01480 may control Na+compartmentalization in grapevine roots;and VIT_05s0020g01960 may influence Na+transfer in stems.Based on the dynamics of ion concentrations, electrolyte leakage rates, and CPA1 gene expression in root, stem, and leaf tissues under osmotic and NaCl stresses,we suggest how grapevine responds physiologically and molecularly to the osmotic and ion toxicity of NaCl stress in the short term. This work lays a foundation for future research on the CPA1 gene family regarding its evolutionary history and biological functions for modulating salt responses in grapevine.Yuanchun Ma Jiaoyang Wang Yan Zhong Fang Geng Grant R Cramer Zong-Ming(Max)Cheng 2015Horticulture Research2015,2,1:0
