1Boosting third-harmonic generation by a mirror-enhanced anapole resonator显示文摘We demonstrate that a dielectric anapole resonator on a metallic mirror can enhance the third harmonic emission by two orders of magnitude compared to a typical anapole resonator on an insulator substrate.By employing a gold mirror under a silicon nanodisk,we introduce a novel characteristic of the anapole mode through the spatial overlap of resonantly excited Cartesian electric and toroidal dipole modes.This is a remarkable improvement on the early demonstrations of the anapole mode in which the electric and toroidal modes interfere off-resonantly.Therefore,our system produces a significant near-field enhancement,facilitating the nonlinear process.Moreover,the mirror surface boosts the nonlinear emission via the free-charge oscillations within the interface,equivalent to producing a mirror image of the nonlinear source and the pump beneath the interface.We found that these improvements result in an extremely high experimentally obtained efficiency of 0.01%.Lei Xu Mohsen Rahmani Khosro Zangeneh Kamali Aristeidis Lamprianidis Lavinia Ghirardini Jürgen Sautter Rocio Camacho-Morales Haitao Chen Matthew Parry Isabelle Staude Guoquan Zhang Dragomir Neshev Andrey E.Miroshnichenko 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:5
2Enhanced generation of nondegenerate photon pairs in nonlinear metasurfaces显示文摘We predict theoretically a regime of photon-pair generation driven by the interplay of multiple bound states in the continuum resonances in nonlinear metasurfaces.This nondegenerate photon-pair generation is derived from the hyperbolic topology of the transverse phase matching and can enable orders-of-magnitude enhancement of the photon rate and spectral brightness,as compared to the degenerate regime.We show through comprehensive simulations that the entanglement of the photon pairs can be tuned by varying the pump polarization,which can underpin future advances and applications of ultracompact quantum light sources.Matthew Parry Andrea Mazzanti Alexander Poddubny Giuseppe Della Valle Dragomir N.Neshev Andrey A.Sukhorukov 2021Advanced Photonics2021,3,5:2

10Building the new international science of the agriculture-food-water-environment Nexus in China and the world显示文摘The multiple,complex and systemic problems of the agriculture-food-water-environment nexus(“Nexus”)are among the most significant challenges of the 21st century.China is a key site for Nexus research amidst profound socio-environmental problems.The policy implications of these problems have been authoritatively summarized elsewhere.This study presents discussions at an international workshop in Guangzhou that asked instead“What science is needed to deliver the growing policy commitments regarding these challenges?And,What changes are needed to the science itself?”Understanding and effective intervention regarding the Nexus calls for a paradigm shift:to a new kind of science of(capacity for)international,interdisciplinary,and impactful research working with and within complex socio-natural systems.We here argue that science must become proactive in approach,striving only for“minimal harm”not“silver bullet”solutions,and adopting an explicitly long-term strategic perspective.Together,these arguments lead to calls for reorienting science and science policy in three ways:from short-term remediation to longer-term optimization;from a focus on environmental threats to one on the opportunities for international collaborative learning;and toward supporting new forms of scientific career.We bring these points together by recommending a new form of scientific institution:a global network of collaborative Nexus Centres,under the umbrella of a global Food Nexus Organization akin to those of the human genome and proteome.Xinguang Zhu Martin Parry Yonglong Lu Matthew Heard Guangguo Ying Simon Vaughan Jianbo Shen Alan Jenkins Yunpeng Wang Silvia Lacorte Tingping Ouyang Francisco Pedrero Salcedo Jun Niu John Quinton Chunling Luo Fusuo Zhang Gan Zhang William Davies Kevin Jones David Tyfield 2016Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2016,2,11:0
