2What we should know about portal vein thrombosis in cirrhotic patients:A changing perspective显示文摘Portal vein thrombosis(PVT) is one of the most common complications occurring during the natural course of liver cirrhosis.Even though PVT is often asymptomatic,the worsening of liver function,an unexpected episode of gastrointestinal bleeding or ascitic decompensation may be landmarks of PVT development.Beyond these clinical manifestations,it is debated whether PVT really has an impact on liver cirrhosis natural history or rather represents only one of its consequences.Probably PVT development should not only be considered as a matter of impaired blood flow or pro-coagulation tendency.On one hand,PVT seems a consequence of the worsening in portal vein outflow due to the increased hepatic resistance in cirrhotic livers.On the other hand,vascular microthrombosis secondary to necroinflammation may cause liver ischemia and infarction,with loss of hepatic tissue(parenchymal extinction) which is replaced by fibrotic tissue.Therefore,PVT might also be considered as the overt manifestation of the liver fibrosing process evolution and anticoagulant therapy may thus have microscopic indirect effects also on the progression of liver disease.At present,a connection between PVT development and the progression of liver fibrosis/cirrhosis has not yet been demonstrated.Nevertheless,it is not clear if PVT development may worsen cirrhotic patients' outcome by itself.Some authors tried to assess liver transplant benefit in PVT cirrhotic patients but data are contrasting.In this review,we will try to answer these questions,providing a critical analysis of data reported in literature.Francesca Romana Ponziani Maria Assunta Zocco Matteo Garcovich Francesca D'Aversa Davide Roccarina Antonio Gasbarrini 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,36:24
3Application of Trichoderma harzianum (T22) and Trichoderma atroviride (P1) as plant growth promoters, and their compatibility with copper oxychloride显示文摘Trichoderma strains are used in agriculture because they provide to the plants the following benefits: i) are rhizosphere competence and establish stable rhizosphere microbial communities; ii) control plant disease caused by pathogenic and competitive microflora, by using a variety of mechanisms; iii) improve vegetative growth, root development and yield; iv) make nutrients more available to the plant. In this work we have investigated the ability of T. harzianum T22 and T. atroviride P1 to improve plant growth of locally important horticultural crops: lettuce, tomatoes and peppers and to prevent disease in the greenhouse and field. The effect of the Trichoderma treatment was evaluated by determining the weight of fresh and dry roots and above ground plant biomass, measuring plants height, counting the number of emerged leaves (lettuce, tomatoes and peppers) and quantifying production (tomatoes and peppers). No disease symptoms were found during production, although Fusarium sp. strains pathogenic to tomato were detected in the soil. Compounds containing copper oxychloride are frequently used for fungal disease control in agriculture. In order to investigate the compatibility of T. harzianum T22 and T. atroviride P1 with copper oxychloride applications, the effect on mycelia growth was monitored in both liquid and solid medium. 4Intestinal epithelial barrier and neuromuscular compartment in health and disease显示文摘A number of digestive and extra-digestive disorders,including inflammatory bowel diseases,irritable bowel syndrome,intestinal infections,metabolic syndrome and neuropsychiatric disorders,share a set of clinical features at gastrointestinal level,such as infrequent bowel movements,abdominal distension,constipation and secretory dysfunctions.Several lines of evidence indicate that morphological and molecular changes in intestinal epithelial barrier and enteric neuromuscular compartment contribute to alterations of both bowel motor and secretory functions in digestive and extra-digestive diseases.The present review has been conceived to provide a comprehensive and critical overview of the available knowledge on the morphological and molecular changes occurring in intestinal epithelial barrier and enteric neuromuscular compartment in both digestive and extra-digestive diseases.In addition,our intent was to highlight whether these morphological and molecular alterations could represent a common path(or share some common features)driving the pathophysiology of bowel motor dysfunctions and related symptoms associated with digestive and extra-digestive disorders.This assessment might help to identify novel targets of potential usefulness to develop original pharmacological approaches for the therapeutic management of such disturbances.Vanessa D’Antongiovanni Carolina Pellegrini Matteo Fornai Rocchina Colucci Corrado Blandizzi Luca Antonioli Nunzia Bernardini 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,14:6
5Colorectal cancer screening in countries of European Council outside of the EU-28显示文摘AIM: To provide an update on colorectal cancer(CRC) screening programmes in non-European Union(EU)-28 Council of Europe member states as of December 2015. METHODS: The mission of the Council of Europe is to protect and promote human rights in its 47 member countries. Its 19 non-EU member states are Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, FYR of Macedonia, Turkey, and Ukraine(EU-19). The main data source were GLOBOCAN, IARC, WHO, EUCAN, NORDCAN, ENCR, volume X of the CI5, the ministerial and Public Health Agency websites of the individual countries, Pub Med, EMBASE, registries of some websites and the www.cochranelibrary.com, Scopus, www.clinicaltrials.gov, www.clinicaltrialsregister.eu, Research gate, Google and data extracted from screening programme results. RESULTS: Our results show that epidemiological data quality varies broadly between EU-28 and EU-19 countries. In terms of incidence, only 30% of EU-19 countries rank high in data quality as opposed to 86% of EU-28 states. The same applies to mortality data, since 52% of EU-19 countries as against all EU-28 countries are found in the high ranks. Assessment of the method of collection of incidence data showed that only 32% of EU-19 countries are found in the top three quality classes as against 89% of EU-28 countries. For the mortality data, 63% of EU-19 countries are found in the highest ranks as opposed to all EU-28 member states. Interestingly, comparison of neighbouring countries offering regional screening shows, for instance, that incidence and mortality rates are respectively 38.9 and 13.0 in Norway and 29.2 and10.9 in Sweden, whereas in Finland, where a national organised programme is available, they are respectively 23.5 and 9.3. CONCLUSION: Cancer screening should be viewed as a key health care tool, also because investing in screening protects the weakest in the population, decreases the social burden of cancer, and reduces all types of health care costs, including those for radical surgery, long-term hospitalisation, and chemotherapy.Emma Altobelli Francesco D'Aloisio Paolo Matteo Angeletti 2016World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,20:5

7Transient micro-elastography:A novel non-invasive approach to measure liver stiffness in mice显示文摘AIM:To develop and validate a transient micro-elastography device to measure liver stiffness(LS) in mice.METHODS:A novel transient micro-elastography(TME) device,dedicated to LS measurements in mice with a range of measurement from 1-170 kPa,was developed using an optimized vibration frequency of 300 Hz and a 2 mm piston.The novel probe was validated in a classical fibrosis model(CCl4) and in a transgenic murine model of systemic amyloidosis.RESULTS:TME could be successfully performed in control mice below the xiphoid cartilage,with a mean LS of 4.4 ± 1.3 kPa,a mean success rate of 88%,and an excellent intra-observer agreement(0.98).Treatment with CCl4 over seven weeks drastically increased LS as compared to controls(18.2 ± 3.7 kPa vs 3.6 ± 1.2 kPa).Moreover,fibrosis stage was highly correlated with LS(Spearman coefficient = 0.88,P < 0.01).In the amyloidosis model,much higher LS values were obtained,reaching maximum values of > 150 kPa.LS significantly correlated with the amyloidosis index(0.93,P < 0.0001) and the plasma concentration of mutant hapoA-□(0.62,P < 0.005).CONCLUSION:Here,we have established the first non-invasive approach to measure LS in mice,and have successfully validated it in two murine models of high LS.Cécile Bastard Matteo R Bosisio Michèle Chabert Athina D Kalopissis Meriem Mahrouf-Yorgov Hélène Gilgenkrantz Sebastian Mueller Laurent Sandrin 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,8:4

11Transcriptome reprogramming,epigenetic modifications and alternative splicing orchestrate the tomato root response to the beneficial fungus Trichoderma harzianum显示文摘Beneficial interactions of rhizosphere microorganisms are widely exploited for plant biofertilization and mitigation of biotic and abiotic constraints.To provide new insights into the onset of the roots–beneficial microorganisms interplay,we characterised the transcriptomes expressed in tomato roots at 24,48 and 72 h post inoculation with the beneficial fungus Trichoderma harzianum T22 and analysed the epigenetic and post-trascriptional regulation mechanisms.We detected 1243 tomato transcripts that were differentially expressed between Trichoderma-interacting and control roots and 83 T.harzianum transcripts that were differentially expressed between the three experimental time points.Interaction with Trichoderma triggered a transcriptional response mainly ascribable to signal recognition and transduction,stress response,transcriptional regulation and transport.In tomato roots,salicylic acid,and not jasmonate,appears to have a prominent role in orchestrating the interplay with this beneficial strain.Differential regulation of many nutrient transporter genes indicated a strong effect on plant nutrition processes,which,together with the possible modifications in root architecture triggered by ethylene/indole-3-acetic acid signalling at 72 h post inoculation may concur to the well-described growth-promotion ability of this strain.Alongside,T.harzianum-induced defence priming and stress tolerance may be mediated by the induction of reactive oxygen species,detoxification and defence genes.A deeper insight into gene expression and regulation control provided first evidences for the involvement of cytosine methylation and alternative splicing mechanisms in the plant–Trichoderma interaction.A model is proposed that integrates the plant transcriptomic responses in the roots,where interaction between the plant and beneficial rhizosphere microorganisms occurs.Monica De Palma Maria Salzano Clizia Villano Riccardo Aversano Matteo Lorito Michelina Ruocco Teresa Docimo Anna Lisa Piccinelli Nunzio D’Agostino Marina Tucci 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:2
