Hepatitis C virus genotype 3a infection and hepatocellular carcinoma: Pakistan experience显示文摘AIM: To assess the association between chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in Pakistan, and the genotype distribution among these HCC patients.METHODS: One hundred and sixty-one subjects with HCC were included in this study. Liver biopsy was performed on 145 of the patients; sixteen were excluded because they failed to fulfill the inclusion criteria. Qualitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed for hepatitis B virus and HCV. Samples positive for HCV RNA were genotyped using genotype-specif ic PCR and conf irmed by HCV 5' noncoding region sequencing analysis. RESULTS: Chronic HCV infection was identified a major risk factor (63.44% of tested HCC patients) forthe development of HCC. The time from HCV infection to appearance of cancer was 10-50 years. In the HCC patient population, broader distributions of genotypes were present with genotype 3a as the predominant genotype. Using the type-specific genotyping method, we found HCV genotype 3a in 40.96%, 3b in 15.66%, 1a in 9.63%, and 1b in 2.40% of HCC tissue samples. About 28% of cases were found with mixed genotypes. Two cases were unable to be genotyped because of low viral load. Sixty-six percent of treated patients with cirrhosis had an end of treatment response, but unfortunately they relapsed quickly when the treatment was discontin-ued, and HCC developed during a median 3.8 years. CONCLUSION: There was a strong association between chronic HCV infection and HCC in Pakistan, and between HCV genotype 3a and HCC. | Muhammad Idrees Shazia Rafi que Irshad-ur Rehman Haji Akbar Muhammad Zubair Yousaf Sadia Butt Zunaira Awan Sobia Manzoor Madiha Akram Mahwish Aftab Bushra Khubaib Sheikh Riazuddin | 2009 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,40: | 1

Dramatic changes in anatomical traits of a C4 grass Chrysopogon serrulatus Trin.(Poaceae)over a 1000 m elevational gradient显示文摘Chrysopogon serrulatus(false beard-grass)is a dominant component of vegetation in the foothills of the Himalayas. To study whole plant morphology, individuals of C.serrulatus were collected from three plots at each of six locations spanning from 400 to 1,400 m.The population colonizing the highest elevation modifications in different plant organs.Roots showed increased metaxylem number and area.In the stem, especially outside of the vascular tissue, there was intensive sclerification indicative of increased xeromorphy as a survival strategy. At the highest elevation, leaves were wider;aerenchyma formation and increased sclerification were noted in the leaf sheath;and a greater proportion of storage parenchyma was observed in the leaf blade, all indicators of succulence. In contrast, leaves at lower elevations had xeric morphological features such as increased epidermal thickness, sclerification and more developed metaxylem area.In conclusion, shifting of morphological features in below-and above-ground plant parts of C.serrulatus were linked to shifts in environmental factors along this elevation gradient, thus enabling the successful distribution of this species along this elevation gradient. | FATIMA Sana HAMEED Mansoor AHMAD Farooq AHMAD Muhammad Sajid Aqeel ANWAR Majid MUNIR Mahwish ASHRAF Muhammad SHAH Syed Mohsan Raza BASHARAT Sana AHMAD Iftikhar KHALIL Sangam | 2023 | Journal of Mountain Science2023,20,5: | 0
Tracking and Analysis of Pedestrian’s Behavior in Public Places显示文摘Crowd management becomes a global concern due to increased population in urban areas.Better management of pedestrians leads to improved use of public places.Behavior of pedestrian’s is a major factor of crowd management in public places. There are multiple applications available in this area but the challenge is open due to complexity of crowd and depends on the environment. In this paper,we have proposed a new method for pedestrian’s behavior detection.Kalman filter has been used to detect pedestrian’s usingmovement based approach.Next,we have performed occlusion detection and removal using region shrinking method to isolate occluded humans.Human verification is performed on each human silhouette and wavelet analysis and particle gradient motion are extracted for each silhouettes.Gray Wolf Optimizer(GWO)has been utilized to optimize feature set and then behavior classification has been performed using the Extreme Gradient(XG)Boost classifier.Performance has been evaluated using pedestrian’s data from avenue and UBI-Fight datasets, where both have different environment. The mean achieved accuracies are 91.3%and 85.14%over the Avenue and UBI-Fight datasets, respectively. These results are more accurate as compared to other existing methods. | Mahwish Pervaiz Mohammad Shorfuzzaman Abdulmajeed Alsufyani Ahmad Jalal Suliman A.Alsuhibany Jeongmin Park | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,1: | 0

Automatic Anomaly Monitoring in Public Surveillance Areas显示文摘With the dramatic increase in video surveillance applications and public safety measures, the need for an accurate and effective system for abnormal/sus-picious activity classification also increases.Although it has multiple applications, the problem is very challenging. In this paper,a novel approach for detecting nor-mal/abnormal activity has been proposed. We used the Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM)and Kalmanfilter to detect and track the objects, respectively. After that,we performed shadow removal to segment an object and its shadow. After object segmentation we performed occlusion detection method to detect occlusion between multiple human silhouettes and we implemented a novel method for region shrinking to isolate occluded humans.Fuzzy c-mean is utilized to verify human silhouettes and motion based features including velocity and opticalflow are extracted for each identified silhouettes.Gray Wolf Optimizer(GWO)is used to optimize feature set followed by abnormal event classification that is performed using the XG-Boost classifier. This system is applicable in any surveillance appli-cation used for event detection or anomaly detection.Performance of proposed system is evaluated using University of Minnesota(UMN)dataset and UBI(Uni-versity of Beira Interior)-Fight dataset, each having different type of anomaly. The mean accuracy for the UMN and UBI-Fight datasets is 90.14%and 76.9%respec-tively.These results are more accurate as compared to other existing methods. | Mohammed Alarfaj Mahwish Pervaiz Yazeed Yasin Ghadi Tamara al Shloul Suliman A.Alsuhibany Ahmad Jalal Jeongmin Park | 2023 | Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing2023,,3: | 0
Microstructure and thermoelectric properties of nanoparticled copper selenide alloys synthesized using a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method显示文摘With the fabrication of high-performance thermoelectric(TE)materials, developments are being made in enhanc-ing the figure of merit,zT,of TE materials.Liquid-like binary copper selenide(Cu_(2) Se)chalcogenides recently gained significant recognition because of their anomalous but fascinating electrical and thermal transport perfor-mances.In this study,a facile synthesis technique was adopted in fabricating Cu_(2) Se nanoparticles using a rapid microwave-assisted hydrothermal route at different reaction times. The results were compared with those of the Cu_(2) Se solid-state(SS)sample synthesized using the traditional melting and annealing technique.X-ray diffrac-tion patterns revealed successful synthesis of nanoparticles and a phase transition from orthorhombic-phase and cubic-phase to a single orthorhombic structure after hot-pressing.Scanning electron microscopic images revealed that although the grain sizes of the nanoparticle(NP)bulk samples increased with the reaction time of the microwave hydrothermal process, the grain sizes were significantly smaller than that of the SS sample.Additionally,NP bulk samples exhibited plenty of nano-grains and pores that are absent in the SS sample. The size and distribution of the grains and pores were measured to study their effects on the transport of carriers and phonons. The NP30 sample exhibited the highest power factor of 983.3μW K−2 m at 673 K among the NP samples, exhibiting intermediate values of resistivity and Seebeck coefficient that are close to those of the SS sample. Moreover, the NP samples exhibited appreciably lower thermal conductivity than the SS sample that is attributed to strengthened phonon scattering. The minimum thermal conductivity of the NP05 sample,0.78 WK−1 m−1 at 348 K,is 1.7 times lower than that of the SS sample. Finally,a maximum zT of 0.56 at 673 K,being approximately 1.3 times higher than that of the SS sample owing to the optimized thermal conductivity, was achieved for the NP30 sample. This value is comparable to or higher than that reported for Cu_(2) Se synthesized using the traditional SS method.Investigations revealed that the proposed microwave hydrothermal synthesis technique is a facile, rapid, and reliable method that results in Cu_(2) Se alloys with excellent TE performance. | Mahwish Khan Jinze Zhai Wenbin Su Fahad Mehmood Tingting Chen Juanjuan Feng Hongchao Wang Chunlei Wang | 2023 | ChemPhysMater2023,2,3: | 0
Polymorphic information and genetic diversity in Brassica speciesrevealed by RAPD markers显示文摘Randomly amplified polymorphic DNA(RAPD)is a tremendously convenient approach used to discriminate between Brassica species owing to its accuracy and speed.RAPD primers generate adequate genetic information that can be used in the primer-marker system. In this work, twenty RAPD-PCR based markers were executed to generate polymorphic data, like polymorphic information content(PIC),mean resolving power(MRP),resolving power(RP),effective multiplex ratio(EMR),and marker index(MI)for the first time and genetic distance among and between six Brassica species were calculated. Our results indicated that 20 primers produced a total of 231 scored band and generated 87%polymorphic bands.Average PIC,MRP,RP,MI,and EMR values were 0.088,0.65,6.7,0.78,and 8.9,respectively.PIC showed an overall negative correlation with MRP,RP,MI,and EMR,whereas MRP,RP,and EMR,were positively correlated with each other.Genetic identities ranged from 41.99%(between Brassica napus and Brassica oleracea)to 68.83%(between Brassica campestris and Brassica oleracea).Dendrogram results showed no clustering between species except between Brassica campestris and Brassica nigra.Nevertheless, these results will be helpful to acquire useful information about the markers and their use to determine the genomic structures of Brassica species.Further, based on genetic distance and polymorphic information, new hybrids can be developed for effective oilseed production. | ALI RAZA ABU BAKR UMER FAROOQ WAQAR AHMAD KHAN AHSAN IQBAL SADETTINÇELİK MAHWISH ALI RAO SOHAIL AHMAD KHAN | 2020 | BIOCELL2020,44,4: | 0
Assessment of Biochemical and Antioxidative Status in Patients Suffering from Dengue Fever显示文摘A multi-centred study was designed to collect dengue epidemiologic data from government and registered private hospitals/clinics and maintained archive of frozen specimens in bio-bank to be used for future dengue epidemic control program, and assess the epidemiology of dengue fever(DF) by evaluating biochemical and oxidative status of patients. ELISA Ig M antibodies test was done to confirm DF. From August 2010 to December 2011, 101 confirmed blood samples of DF patients referred to pathology lab of Jinnah Hospital Lahore were subjected to the epidemiologic assessment by evaluating the biochemical and physiological indices and alterations of circulating antioxidants. Clinical features of DF patients and effect of fever on blood components and serum proteins of liver were recorded. The hospital stay in DF, dengue hemorrhagic fever(DHF) and dengue shock syndrome(DSS) showed significant difference. Significant increases in serum alanine amino transferase(ALT)(P=0.000), aspartate amino transferase(AST)(P=0.000), alkaline phosphatase(ALP)(P=0.000), malondialdehyde(MDA) along with significant decreases in total protein(TP)(P=0.000), reduced glutathione(GSH)(P=0.000), superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase(CAT)(P=0.000), and sialic acid contents(P=0.016) were observed. A positive correlation existed between bound sialic acid levels, liver enzymes and circulating antioxidants(r=0.656, P=0.016). In the present study, alterations of circulating antioxidants in DF suggest that DF might be a metabolic response to an acute, self-limiting tropical viral infection, and a consequence of the viral inflammatory process. | Mahmood Rasool Arif Malik Khalid Mahmud Khan Muhammad Saeed Qureshi Beenish Shabbir Sara Zahid Muhammad Asif Abdul Manan Sana Rashid Saima Rubab Khan Hafiz Muhammad Arsalan Rabail Alam Mahwish Arooj Mahmood Husain Qazi Adeel Gulzar Ahmed Chaudhary Adel Mohammed Abuzenadah Mohammed Hussain Al-Qahtani Sajjad Karim | 2015 | Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology(Medical Sciences)2015,35,3: | 0
Double Encryption Using Trigonometric Chaotic Map and XOR of an Image显示文摘In the most recent decades,a major number of image encryption plans have been proposed. The vast majority of these plans reached a highsecurity level;however, their moderate speeds because of their complicated processes made them of no use in real-time applications.Inspired by this,we propose another efficient and rapid image encryption plan dependent on the Trigonometric chaotic guide. In contrast to the most of current plans,we utilize this basic map to create just a couple of arbitrary rows and columns. Moreover,to additionally speed up,we raise the processing unit from the pixel level to the row/column level. The security of the new plot is accomplished through a substitution permutation network, where we apply a circular shift of rows and columns to break the solid connection of neighboring pixels. At that point,we join the XOR operation with modulo function to cover the pixels values and forestall any leaking of data.High-security tests and simulation analyses are carried out to exhibit that the scheme is very secure and exceptionally quick for real-time image processing at 80 fps(frames per second). | Orawit Thinnukool Thammarat Panityakul Mahwish Bano | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,12: | 0
A discussion on cotton transformation during the last decade (2010–2021);an update on present trends and future prospects显示文摘The introduction of genetically modified(GM)cotton in 1996 in the US and its worldwide spread later rejuvenated cotton production in many parts of the world. The evolution is continued since then and currently, the 3rd and fourth generation of same GM cotton is grown in many parts of the world. The GM cotton introduced in 1996 was simple Bt cotton that expressed a single Cry1Ac gene, the later generation carried multiple Cry genes along with the genes controlling herbicide tolerance.Current day GM cotton does not only give stable resistance against lepidopteran insects but also facilitates the farmers to spray broad-spectrum herbicides without harming the crop. The evolution of GM cotton is continued both on the basic and applied side and interventions have been introduced during the last decade.Earlier the cotton transformation was limited to Cocker strains which are getting possible in many other varieties, too. It is successful with both gene gun,and Agrobacterium and inplanta transformation has made it a routine activity.Apart from overexpression studies for various purposes including biotic, abiotic, and quality traits,RNAi and genome editing are explored vigorously.Through this review,we have tried to explore and discuss various interventions for improving transformation protocols, the applications of cotton transformation, and future strategies being developed to get maximum benefits from this technology during the last decade. | QANDEEL‑E‑ARSH AZHAR Muhammad Tehseen ATIF Rana Muhammad ISRAR Mahwish KHAN Azeem Iqbal KHALID Shahzad RANA Iqrar Ahmad | 2021 | Journal of Cotton Research2021,4,4: | 0
