1Effect of Graphene Nanoplatelets addition on mechanical properties of pure aluminum using a semi-powder method显示文摘In recent years, graphene has attracted considerable research interest in all fields of science due to its unique properties. Its excellent mechanical properties lead it to be used in nano-composites for strength enhancement. This paper reports an Aluminum–Graphene Nanoplatelets(Al/GNPs)composite using a semi-powder method followed by hot extrusion. The effect of GNP nano-particle integration on tensile, compressive and hardness response of Al is investigated in this paper. It is demonstrated that 0.3 wt% Graphene Nanoplatelets distributed homogeneously in the matrix aluminum act as an effective reinforcing filler to prevent deformation. Compared to monolithic aluminum(in tension), Al–0.3 wt% GNPs composite exhibited higher 0.2% yield strength(+14.7%), ultimate tensile strength(+11.1%) and lower failure strain( -40.6%). Surprisingly, compared to monolithic Al(in compression), Al–0.3 wt% GNPs composite exhibited same 0.2% compressive yield strength and lower ultimate compression strength(- 7.8%),and lower failure strain(- 20.2%). 2Investigation on microstructural, mechanical and electrochemical properties of aluminum composites reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets显示文摘In present study,the microstructure,mechanical and electrochemical properties of aluminum-graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs) composites were investigated before and after extrusion.The contents of graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs) were varied from 0.25 to 1.0 wt.%in aluminum matrix.The composites were fabricated thorough powder metallurgy method,and the experimental results revealed that Al-0.25%GNPs composite showed better mechanical properties compared with pure Al,Al-0.50%GNPs and Al-0.1.0%GNPs composites.Before extrusion,the Al-0.25%GNPs composite showed ~13.5%improvement in ultimate tensile strength(UTS) and ~50%enhancement in failure strain over monolithic matrix.On the other hand,Al-0.50%GNPs and Al-0.1.0%GNPs composites showed the tensile strength lower than monolithic matrix.No significant change was observed in 0.2%yield strength(YS) of the composites.However,the extruded materials showed different trends.The0.2%YS of composites increased with increase in GNPs filler weight fractions.Surprisingly,UTS of composites with 0.25 and 0.50%GNPs was lower than monolithic matrix.The failure strain of the baseline matrix was enhanced by ~46%with 0.25%graphene nanoplatelets.The superior mechanical properties(in terms of failure strain) of the Al-0.25%GNPs composite maybe attributed to 2-D structure,high surface area and curled nature of graphene.In addition,the corrosion resistance of pure Al and its composites reinforced with 0.5 and 1.0 wt%GNPs was also investigated.It was found that the corrosion rate increased considerably by the presence of GNPs.Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Zhengwen Yu Muhammad Asif Han Lin Rongjian Pan 2015Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2015,25,5:17
3Is it time to replace propranolol with carvedilol for portal hypertension?显示文摘Beta-adrenergic receptor antagonists(β-blockers) have been well established for use in portal hypertension for more than three decades. Different Non-selective β-blockers like propranolol, nadolol, timolol, atenolol, metoprolol and carvedilol have been in clinical practice in patients with cirrhosis. Carvedilol has proven 2-4 times more potent than propranolol as a beta-receptor blocker in trials conducted testing its efficacy for heart failure. Whether the same effect extends to its potency in the reduction of portal venous pressures is a topic of on-going debate. The aim of this review is to compare the hemodynamic and clinical effects of carvedilol with propranolol, and attempt assess whether carvedilol can be used instead of propranolol in patients with cirrhosis. Carvedilol is a promising agent among the beta blockers of recent time that has shown significant effects in portal hypertension hemodynamics. It has also demonstrated an effective profile in its clinical application specifically for the prevention of variceal bleeding. Carvedilol has more potent desired physiological effects when compared to Propranolol. However, it is uncertain at the present juncture whether the improvement in hemodynamics also translates into a decreased rate of disease progression and complications when compared to propranolol. 5High temperature formability of graphene nanoplatelets-AZ31 composites fabricated by stir-casting method显示文摘Outstanding mechanical properties of graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)make them ideal reinforcement for mass production of composites.In this research,the composites were fabricated by stir-casting method.GNPs were added in 1.5 and 3.0 wt.%into Mg–3wt.%Al–1wt.%Zn(AZ31)magnesium alloy.As cast ingots were preheated for one hour and extruded at 350℃ with extrusion ratio of 5.2:1.As extruded AZ31-GNPs composites were micro-structurally characterized with X-ray diffraction,optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.Vickers microhardness of synthesized materials was investigated both in parallel and perpendicular to extrusion directions.Room temperature mechanical testing revealed that with increasing GNP’s content,tensile fracture strain was remarkably increased without significant compromise in tensile strength.Furthermore,as extruded AZ31-3GNPs composites were subjected to tensile testing at temperatures ranging from 75℃ to 300℃ with initial strain rate of 2×10^(−3)s^(−1) to evaluate high temperature formability of composite.It was found that like CNTs,GNPs also have the potential to sustain tensile strength at high temperatures.Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Yanglu Liu Xianhua Chen Han Lin Rongjian Pan Muhammad Asif Jia She 2016Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2016,4,4:9
6Closing the nitrogen use efficiency gap and reducing the environmental impact of wheat-maize cropping on smallholder farms in the Guanzhong Plain,Northwest China显示文摘A high crop yield with the minimum possible cost to the environment is generally desirable.However,the complicated relationships among crop production,nitrogen(N) use efficiency and environmental impacts must be clearly assessed.We conducted a series of on-farm N application rate experiments to establish the linkage between crop yield and N_2 O emissions in the Guanzhong Plain in Northwest China.We also examined crop yield,partial factor productivity of applied N(PFPN) and reactive N(Nr) losses through a survey of 1 529 and 1 497 smallholder farms that grow wheat and maize,respectively,in the region.The optimum N rates were 175 and 214 kg ha^(-1) for winter wheat and summer maize,respectively,thereby achieving the yields of 6 799 and 7 518 kg ha^(-1),correspondingly,with low N_2 O emissions based on on-farm N rate experiments.Among the smallholder farms,the average N application rates were 215 and 294 kg ha^(-1) season^(-1),thus producing 6 490 and 6 220 kg ha^(-1) of wheat and maize,respectively.The corresponding PFPN values for the two crops were 36.8 and 21.2 kg N kg^(-1),and the total N_2 O emissions were 1.50 and 3.88 kg ha^(-1),respectively.High N balance,large Nr losses and elevated N_2 O emissions could be explained by the overdoses of N application and low grain yields under the current farming practice.The crop yields,N application rates,PFPN and total N_2 O for wheat and maize were 18 and 24% higher,42 and 37% less,75 and 116% higher,and 42 and 47% less,correspondingly,in the high-yield and high-PFPN group than in the average smallholder farms.In conclusion,closing the PFPN gap between the current average and the value for the high-yield and high-PFPN group would increase crop production and reduce Nr losses or the total N_2 O emissions for the investigated cropping system in Northwest China.Lü Feng-lian HOU Miao-miao ZHANG Hong-tao Asif Khan Muhammad Ayaz QIANGJIU Ciren HU Chang-lu YANG Xue-yun SUN Ben-hua ZHANG Shu-lan 2019Journal of Integrative Agriculture2019,18,1:5
7Plasmon Assisted Highly Efficient Visible Light Catalytic CO_(2) Reduction Over the Noble Metal Decorated Sr-Incorporated g-C_(3)N_(4)显示文摘The photocatalytic performance of g-C_(3)N_(4) for CO_(2) conversion is still inadequate by several shortfalls including the instability,insu cient solar light absorption and rapid charge carrier's recombination rate. To solve these problems,herein,noble metals(Pt and Au)decorated Sr-incorporated g-C_(3)N_(4) photocatalysts are fabricated via the simple calcination and photo-deposition methods. The Sr-incorporation remarkably reduced the g-C_(3)N_(4) band gap from 2.7 to 2.54 eV,as evidenced by the UV–visible absorption spectra and the density functional theory results. The CO_(2) conversion performance of the catalysts was evaluated under visible light irradiation. The Pt/0.15 Sr-CN sample produced 48.55 and 74.54 μmol h-1 g-1 of CH_(4) and CO,respectively.These amounts are far greater than that produced by the Au/0.15 Sr-CN,0.15 Sr-CN,and CN samples. A high quantum e ciency of 2.92% is predicted for the Pt/0.15 Sr-CN sample. Further,the stability of the photocatalyst is confirmed via the photocatalytic recyclable test. 8Characterization and physicochemical aspects of novel cellulose-based layered double hydroxide nanocomposite for removal of antimony and fluoride from aqueous solution显示文摘A series of novel adsorbents composed of cellulose(CL)with Ca/Al layered double hydroxide(CC_(x)A;where x represent the Ca/Al molar ratio)were prepared for the adsorption of antimony(Sb(V))and fluoride(F^(-))ions from aqueous solutions.The CC_(x)A was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET),elemental analysis(CHNS/O),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA-DTA),zeta potential,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive Xray spectroscopy(SEM-EDX)analysis.The effects of varying parameters such as dose,pH,contact time,temperature and initial concentration on the adsorption process were investigated.According to the obtained results,the adsorption processes were described by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model.Langmuir adsorption isotherm model provided the best fit for the experimental data and was used to describe isotherm constants.The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 77.2 and 63.1 mg/g for Sb(V)and F^(-),respectively by CC_(3)A(experimental conditions:pH 5.5,time 60 min,dose 15 mg/10 mL,temperature 298 K).The CC_(3)A nanocomposite was able to reduce the Sb(V)and F^(-)ions concentration in synthetic solution to lower than 6μg/L and 1.5 mg/L,respectively,which are maximum contaminant levels of these elements in drinking water according to WHO guidelines.Hanen Bessaies Sidra Iftekhar Muhammad Bilal Asif Jamel Kheriji Chaker Necibi Mika Sillanpää Bechir Hamrouni 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,4:4
9Improved mechanical proprieties of“magnesium based composites”with titaniume-aluminum hybrids显示文摘In this study,the effect of micron-sized titanium and aluminum addition on the microstructural,mechanical and work-hardening behavior of pure Mg is investigated.Pure Mg reinforced with 10%Ti and 10%Ti-1%Al particulates were synthesized through semi-powder metallurgy route followed by hot extrusion.Semi-powder metallurgy appears to be promising approach for the synthesis of Mg based composite,as it is free of ball milling.Tensile results indicate that the direct addition of micron-sized 10wt.%titanium particulates to pure Mg,caused an improvement in elastic modulus,0.2%yield strength,ultimate tensile strength,and failure strain(+72%;+41%;+29%;and+79%respectively).The addition of micron-sized 10wt.%titanium particles along with 1.0wt.%Al particles to pure Mg,resulted in an enhancement in elastic modulus,0.2%yield strength,ultimate tensile strength,and failure strain(+74%;+56%;+45%;and+241%respectively).Besides tensile test,Vickers hardness and work-hardening behavior of prepared composites were also examined.Impressive failure strain of Mg-10Ti-1Al composite can be attributed to the better compatibility of Ti particulates with Mg due to presence of alloying element Al.Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Muhammad Asif Jia She Ahsan Ullah 2015Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2015,3,1:4
10Splenic injuries secondary to colonoscopy:Rare but serious complication显示文摘BACKGROUND Colonoscopy is a safe and routine diagnostic and therapeutic procedure for evaluation of large bowel diseases.Most common procedure related complications include bleeding and perforation but rarely a splenic Injury.AIM To investigate the reason for colonoscopy,presentation of patient with spleen injury,types of injury,diagnosis,management and outcomes of patients METHODS A structured search on four databases was done and 45 articles with 68 patients were selected.The reason for colonoscopy,presentation of patient with spleen injury,types of injury,diagnosis,management and outcomes of patients were identified and analyzed using SPSS.RESULTS The mean age of the patients was 62.7 years with 64%females.Twenty two percent had a complete splenic rupture with colonoscopy while 63%had subcapsular hematoma,spleen laceration and spleen avulsion.The most common reason for colonoscopy was screening(46%)followed by diagnostic colonoscopy(28%).Eighty seven percent of patients presented with abdominal pain.Patients with spleen rupture mostly required splenectomy(47%),while minor spleen hematomas and lacerations were managed conservatively(38%).Six percent of the patients were managed with proximal splenic artery splenic embolization and 4%were managed with laparoscopic repair.The overall mortality was 10%while 77%had complete recovery.The reason of colonoscopy against presentation specifically,abdominal pain showed no statistical significance P=0.69.The indication of colonoscopy had no significant impact on incidence of splenic injury(P=0.89).Majority of the patients(47%)were managed with splenectomy while the rest were managed conservatively(P=0.04).This association was moderately strong at a cramer’s V test(0.34).The Fisher exact test showed a higher mortality with spleen rupture(P=0.028).CONCLUSION Spleen rupture due to colonoscopy is a significant concern and is associated with high mortality.The management of the patients can be individualized based on clinical presentation.Waqas Ullah Mamoon Ur Rashid Asif Mehmood Yousaf Zafar Ishtiaq Hussain Deepika Sarvepalli Muhammad Khalid Hasan 2020World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2020,12,2:4
11Corrosion behavior of magnesium-graphene composites in sodium chloride solutions显示文摘Coating of graphene and graphene/polymer composites on metals improves the corrosion resistance of metal substrates.On other hand,graphene embedded inside metal(especially Mg)matrices increases or decreases corrosion,is a crucial factor and must be explored.In present study,electrochemical behaviors of magnesium alloys(AZ31 and AZ61)and their composites reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)were carried out in 3.5%NaCl solution by polarization method.The surface morphology of composites before and after corrosion tests were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy.Experimental results revealed that presence of graphene nanoplatelets in different matrices decrease corrosion resistance of composites.This may be attributed to presence of graphene nanoplatelets which activates the corrosion of magnesium/alloys due to the occurrence of galvanic corrosion and this effect increases with increasing graphene nanoplatelets content.Further,an appropriate model describing the corrosion mechanism was proposed.Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Muhammad Asif Xianhua Chen 2017Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2017,5,3:4

13Enhanced ductility of Mg–3Al–1Zn alloy reinforced with short length multiwalled carbon nanotubes using a powder metallurgy method显示文摘Mg–3Al–1Zn–CNTs composites, with different weight fractions(0.25–1.0 wt%) of carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were successfully fabricated via a powder metallurgy method. The processing parameters were adopted in such a way to have uniform dispersion of short length CNTs without any damage, as well as re fi ned and dissolved β phases structures throughout the composite matrix. The composite exhibited impressive increase in microhardness(about+23%) and tensile failure strain value(about+98%) without signi fi cant compromise in tensile strength, compared to the un-reinforced Mg–3Al–1Zn alloy. 17Potentially harmful metals,and health risk evaluation in groundwater of Mardan,Pakistan:Application of geostatistical approach and geographic information system显示文摘This study investigates the values of pH,total dissolved solids(TDS),elevation,oxidative reduction potential(ORP),temperature,and depth,while the concentrations of Br,and potentially harmful metals(PHMs)such as Cr,Ni,Cd,Mn,Cu,Pb,Co,Zn,and Fe in the groundwater samples.Moreover,geographic information system(GIS),XLSTAT,and IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software were used for spatial distribution modeling,principal component analysis(PCA),cluster analysis(CA),and Quantile-Quantile(Q-Q)plotting to determine groundwater pollution sources,similarity index,and normal distribution reference line for the selected parameters.The mean values of pH,TDS,elevation,ORP,temperature,depth,and Br were 7.2,322 mg/L,364 m,188 mV,29.6℃,70 m,0.20 mg/L,and PHMs like Cr,Ni,Cd,Mn,Cu,Pb,Co,Zn,and Fe were 0.38,0.26,0.08,0.27,0.36,0.22,0.04,0.43 and 0.86 mg/L,respectively.PHMs including Cr(89%),Cd(43%),Mn(23%),Pb(79%),Co(20%),and Fe(91%)exceeded the guideline values set by the world health organization(WHO).The significant R^(2)values of PCA for selected parameters were also determined(0.62,0.67,0.78,0.73,0.60,0.87,-0.50,0.69,0.70,0.74,-0.50,0.70,0.67,0.79,0.59,and-0.55,respectively).PCA revealed three geochemical processes such as geogenic,anthropogenic,and reducing conditions.The mineral phases of Cd(OH)_(2),Fe(OH)_(3),FeOOH,Mn_(3)O_(4),Fe_(2)O_(3),MnOOH,Pb(OH)_(2),Mn(OH)_(2),MnO_(2),and Zn(OH)_(2)(-3.7,3.75,9.7,-5.8,8.9,-3.6,2.2,-4.6,-7.7,-0.9,and 0.003,respectively)showed super-saturation and under-saturation conditions.Health risk assessment(HRA)values for PHMs were also calculated and the values of hazard quotient(HQ),and hazard indices(HI)for the entire study area were increased in the following order:Cd>Ni>Cu>Pb>Mn>Zn>Cr.Relatively higher HQ and HI values of Ni,Cd,Pb,and Cu were greater than one showing unsuitability of groundwater for domestic,agriculture,and drinking purposes.The long-term ingestion of groundwater could also cause severe health concerns such as kidney,brain dysfunction,liver,stomach problems,and even cancer.Abdur Rashid Muhammad Ayub Asif Javed Sardar Khan Xubo Gao Chengcheng Li Zahid Ullah Tariq Sardar Juma Muhammad Shahla Nazneen 2021Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,3:2
18Recent Progress,Challenges,and Prospects in Two‑Dimensional Photo‑Catalyst Materials and Environmental Remediation显示文摘The successful photo-catalyst library gives significant information on feature that affects photo-catalytic performance and proposes new materials.Competency is considerably significant to form multi-functional photo-catalysts with flexible characteristics.Since recently,two-dimensional materials(2DMs)gained much attention from researchers,due to their unique thickness-dependent uses,mainly for photo-catalytic,outstanding chemical and physical properties.Photo-catalytic water splitting and hydrogen(H2)evolution by plentiful compounds as electron(e−)donors is estimated to participate in constructing clean method for solar H2-formation.Heterogeneous photocatalysis received much research attention caused by their applications to tackle numerous energy and environmental issues.This broad review explains progress regarding 2DMs,significance in structure,and catalytic results.We will discuss in detail current progresses of approaches for adjusting 2DMs-based photo-catalysts to assess their photo-activity including doping,hetero-structure scheme,and functional formation assembly.Suggested plans,e.g.,doping and sensitization of semiconducting 2DMs,increasing electrical conductance,improving catalytic active sites,strengthening interface coupling in semiconductors(SCs)2DMs,forming nano-structures,building multi-junction nano-composites,increasing photo-stability of SCs,and using combined results of adapted approaches,are summed up.Hence,to further improve 2DMs photo-catalyst properties,hetero-structure design-based 2DMs’photo-catalyst basic mechanism is also reviewed.Karim Khan Ayesha Khan Tareen Muhammad Aslam Rizwan Ur Rehman Sagar Bin Zhang Weichun Huang Asif Mahmood Nasir Mahmood Kishwar Khan Han Zhang Zhongyi Guo 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,12:2
19Mesuaferrea stem bark extract induces apoptosis and inhibits metastasis in human colorectal carcinoma HCT 116 cells, through modulation of multiple cell signalling pathways显示文摘Considering the great potential of natural products as anticancer agents, the present study was designed to explore the molecular mechanisms responsible for anticancer activities of Mesua ferrea stem bark extract against human colorectal carcinoma. Based on MTT assay results, bioactive sub-fraction(SF-3) was selected for further studies using HCT 116 cells. Repeated column chromatography resulted in isolation of less active α-amyrin from SF-3, which was identified and characterized by GC-MS and HPLC methods. α-amyrin and betulinic acid contents of SF-3 were measured by HPLC methods. Fluorescent assays revealed characteristic apoptotic features, including cell shrinkage, nuclear condensation, and marked decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential in SF-3 treated cells. In addition, increased levels of caspases-9 and-3/7 levels were also observed in SF-3 treated cells. SF-3 showed promising antimetastatic properties in multiple in vitro assays. Multi-pathway analysis revealed significant down-regulation of WNT, HIF-1α, and EGFR with simultaneous up-regulation of p53, Myc/Max, and TGF-β signalling pathways in SF-3 treated cells. In addition, promising growth inhibitory effects were observed in SF-3 treated HCT 116 tumour spheroids, which give a hint about in vivo antitumor efficacy of SF-3 phytoconstituents.
