| 2 | A smart safe rechargeable zinc ion battery based on sol-gel transition electrolytes显示文摘Thermal runaway has been a long-standing safety issue impeding the development of high-energydensity batteries. Physical safety designs such as employing circuit-breakers and fuses to batteries are limited by small operating voltage windows and no resumption of original working condition when it is cooled down. Here we report a smart thermoresponsive polymer electrolyte that can be incorporated inside batteries to prevent thermal runaway via a fast and reversible sol-gel transition, and successfully combine this smart electrolyte with a rechargeable Zn/a-MnO_2 battery system. At high temperature, battery operation is inhibited as a result of the increased internal resistance caused by the gelation of liquid electrolyte. After cooling down, the electrolyte is spontaneously reversed to sol state and the electrochemical performance of the battery is restored. | 4 | Resveratrol induces AMPK and mTOR signaling inhibition-mediated autophagy and apoptosis in multiple myeloma cells显示文摘Resveratrol,a natural compound extracted from the skins of grapes,berries,or other fruits,has been shown to have anti-tumor effects against multiple myeloma(MM)via promoting apoptosis and inhibiting cell viability.In addition to apoptosis,autophagy also plays a significant role in anti-tumor effects.However,whether autophagy is involved in anti-MM activity of resveratrol remains unclear.In this study,human MM cell lines U266,RPMI-8226,and NCI-H929 were treated with resveratrol.Cell Counting Kit-8 assay and colony formation assay were used to measure cell viability.Western blot analysis was used to detect apoptosis-and autophagy-associated proteins.3-Methyladenine(3-MA)was applied to inhibit autophagy.Results showed that resveratrol inhibited cell viability and colony formation via promoting apoptosis and autophagy in MM cell lines U266,RPMI-8226,and NCI-H929.Resveratrol promoted apoptosis-related proteins,Caspase-3 activating poly-ADP-ribose polymerase and Caspase-3 cleavage,and decreased the protein level of Survivin in a dose-dependent manner.Additionally,resveratrol upregulated the levels of LC3 and Beclin1 in a dose-dependent way,indicating that autophagy might be implicated in anti-MM effect of resveratrol.Furthermore,3-MA relieved the cytotoxicity of resveratrol by blocking the autophagic flux.Resveratrol increased the phosphorylation of adenosine monophosphate(AMP)-activated protein kinase and decreased the phosphorylation of mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)and its downstream substrates p70S6K and 4EBP1 in a dose-dependent manner,leading to autophagy.Therefore,our results suggest that resveratrol exerts anti-MM effects through apoptosis and autophagy,which can be used as a new therapeutic strategy for MM in clinic. | Ruye Ma Dandan Yu Yu Peng Hongfei Yi Yingcong Wang Taofang Cheng Bingqing Shi Guang Yang Weiming Lai Xiaosong Wu Ye Lu Jumei Shi | 2021 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,6: | 7 |
| 5 | New index of ferromanganese crusts reflecting oceanic environmental oxidation显示文摘Ferromanganese crusts (hereinafter crusts) form in aerobic environment and the environmental oxida-tion degree is recorded by the redox sensitive element Co in the crusts. The ages of the layers from the surface to bottom of the crusts are determined, and main element contents at high resolution along the depth sections of three crusts from the Pacific Ocean are analyzed by an electron microprobe. Thus the variations of Co/(Fe+Mn) and Co/(Ni+Cu) with age/depth of the crust layers are obtained. By comparing the ratios of Co/(Fe+Mn) and Co/(Ni+Cu) with the δ 18O curves of the Pacific benthic foraminifera, we find that these two ratios can reflect the variation of the environmental oxidation state under which the crust layers deposit. The evolution of the oxidation degree reflected by the two indexes resembles the evo-lution of temperature since the Oligocene reflected by the δ 18O curves of the Pacific benthic foraminif-era. This suggests that the crust-forming environment after the Oligocene is controlled mainly by the oxygen-rich bottom water originated from the Antarctic bottom water (AABW). However it is not the case prior to the Oligocene. Furthermore it suggests that the environmental oxidation degree controls the formation of the crusts and the Co contents in the crusts. | 6 | Controlled growth and photoconductive properties of hexagonal SnS2 nanoflakes with mesa-shaped atomic steps显示文摘We demonstrated the controlled growth of two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal tin disulfide (SnS2) nanoflakes with stacked monolayer atomic steps. The morphology was similar to flat-topped and step-sided mesa plateaus or step pyramids. The SnS2 nanoflakes were grown on mica substrates via an atmospheric-pressure chemical vapor deposition process using tin monosulfide and sulfur powder as precursors. Atomic force microscopy (AFM), electron microscopy, and Raman characterizations were performed to investigate the structural features, and a sequential layer-wise epitaxial growth mechanism was revealed. In addition, systematic Raman characterizations were performed on individual SnS2 nanoflakes with a wide range of thicknesses (1-100 nm), indicating that the A1g peak intensity and Raman shifts were closely related to the thickness of the SnS2 nanoflakes. Moreover, photoconductive AFM was performed on the monolayer-stepped SnS2 nanoflakes, revealing that the flat surface and the edges of the SnS2 atomic steps had different electrical conductive properties and photoconductive behaviors. This is ascribed to the dangling bonds and defects at the atomic step edges, which caused a height difference of the Schottky barriers formed at the interfaces between the PtIr-coated AFM tip and the step edges or the flat surface of the SnS2 nanoflakes. | 8 | Antidiabetic effect of an engineered bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1 in monkey model显示文摘Glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1)reduces postprandial hyperglycaemia,but its short half-life inhibits clinical application.The aim of the current study was to evaluate the treatment efforts of an engineered strain,Lactobacillus plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1(L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1),that continuously expresses GLP-1 in spontaneous type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)monkeys.After 7 weeks of oral supplementation with L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1,the fasting blood glucose(FPG)of monkeys was significantly(p<0.05)reduced to a normal level and only a small amount of weight was lost.The results of metagenomic sequencing showed that L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1 caused a substantial(p<0.05)reduction in the intestinal pathogen Prevotella and marked enhancement of butyrate-producing Alistipes genera.According to the functional analysis using Kyoto Encyclopaedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)pathways,19 metabolism-related pathways were significantly enriched in T2DM monkeys after treatment with L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1.LC-MS faecal metabolomics analysis found 41 significant differential metabolites(11 higher and 30 lower)in monkeys after treatment pathways linked to the metabolism of cofactors and vitamins were the most relevant.The present study suggests that L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1 had an impact on the gut microbial composition and faecal metabolomic profile in spontaneous T2DM monkeys and may be a novel candidate for diabetes treatment. | Jie Luo Hongfei Zhang Jiachen Lu ChaoLin Ma Tingtao Chen | 2021 | Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2021,6,4: | 3 |

These genes coded for proteins containing 176–1 125 amino acids with isoelectric points ranging from 4.68 to 9.58.The predicted Md PG genes were distributed on all chromosomes except the 14 th. We then systematically analyzed conserved Md PG protein motifs and the structures of Md PG genes. We identified Md PG proteins containing four conserved motifs that are widely found in different PG proteins.Additionally, we found that Md PG75 was the largest gene, encompassing 18 exons. Finally, we systematically analyzed the functional connection network of Md PG proteins and predicted the functions of related Md PG genes before undertaking a preliminary validation. | 17 | Single-cell discrimination based on optical tweezers Raman spectroscopy显示文摘The ability to discriminate between single cells in a label-free and noninvasive fashion is important for the classification of cells, and for the identification of similar cells from different origins. In this paper, we present the Raman spectroscopy-based identifi- cation of different types of single cells in aqueous media, and discrimination between the same types of cells from different donors using a novel Laser Tweezers Raman Spectroscopy (LTRS) technique, which combines laser trapping and micro-Raman spectroscopy. First, we measured the spectra of individual living human erythrocytes, i.e. red blood cells, and leucocytes (U937 cancer cells). High-quality Raman spectra with low fluorescence were obtained using a home-LTRS apparatus and 20 cells were measured for each cell type. The smoothing, baseline subtraction, and normalization of the data were followed by a principal components analysis (PCA). The PCA loading plots showed that the two different types of cells could be completely separated based only on the first component (PC1) (i.e. the peaks at 1300 cm1 ); the discrimination accuracy could therefore reach 100%. More than 50 spectra were taken for each erythrocyte obtained from the four healthy volunteers. The average discrimination accuracy was 84.5% for two random individuals taken from the four volunteers, according to the first and second PCs.
