1OSL chronology and paleoclimatic implications of paleodunes in the middle and southwestern Qaidam Basin, Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Aeolian sediments are widely distributed in the Qaidam Basin, northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP). The paleodunes are mainly located at the southeastern, middle and southwestern Qaidam Basin. However, ages of paleodunes in the middle and southwestern Qaidam Basin have not been well studied, although they are close to and might connect to the evolution of salt lakes in the central basin. In this study, we use single aliquot regeneration (SAR) protocol of Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) to date the dune sand in these two regions. The results show that: (1) Sand accumulation in these regions started at ca. 4-3 ka and lasted to ca. 0.5 ka when they were stabilized, due to the arid climate in the late Holocene. (2) The underlying fluvial sand was formed during deglaciation at 12.6±0.8 ka. (3) The stabilization periods of the paleodunes correspond to stages of glacier advance in the northeastern QTP, during which lower temperatures caused the decrease of evaporation and increase of the effective moisture, leading to an increase of vegetation cover and stabilization of the dunes.LuPeng Yu ZhongPing Lai Ping An 2013Research in Cold and Arid Regions2013,5,2:7

4Unraveling SO_(2)-tolerant mechanism over Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2) catalysts for NO_(x) reduction显示文摘Developing low-temperature SO_(2)-tolerant catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NO_(x) is still a challenging task.The sulfation of active metal oxides and deposition of ammonium bisulfate deactivate catalysts,due to the difficult decomposition of the as-formed sulfate species at low temperatures(<300℃).In recent years,metal sulfate catalysts have attracted increasing attention owing to their good catalytic activity and strong SO_(2) tolerance at higher temperatures(>300℃);however,the SO_(2)-tolerant mechanism of metal sulfate catalysts is still ambiguous.In this study,Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2) and Ce_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2) catalysts were prepared using the corresponding metal sulfate salt as the precursor.These catalysts were tested for their low-temperature activity and SO_(2) tolerance activity.Compared to Ce_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2),Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2) showed significantly better low-temperature activity and SO_(2) tolerance.It was demonstrated that less surface sulfate species formed on Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2) and Ce_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2).However,the presence of NO and O_(2) could assist the decomposition of NH_(4)HSO_(4) over Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2) at a lower temperature,endowing Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2) with better low-temperature SO_(2) tolerance than Ce_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2).This study unraveled the SO_(2)-tolerant mechanism of Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)/TiO_(2)at lower temperatures(<300℃),and a potential strategy is proposed for improving the low-temperature SO_(2)-tolerance of catalysts with Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) as the main active component or functional promoter.Chong Feng Lupeng Han Penglu Wang Xiangyu Liu Guangyuan Zhou Dengsong Zhang 2022Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,1:3
5Molecular diversity of Thermococcales isolated from Guaymas Basin hydrothermal vents显示文摘Members of Thermococcales are organoheterotrophic hyperthermophilic anaerobes consisting of three genera, Thermococcus, Pyrococcus, and Palaeococcus, among which Thermococcus are the most frequently isolated. In this study, a variety of Thermococcales strains were isolated from the Guaymas Basin hydrothermal vents under different temperatures and pressures. Based on their 16S rRNA gene sequences, all the strains isolated from 85 C or 95 C enrichment cultures at ambient pressure were classified as Thermococcus, while strains isolated from 108 C-30 MPa enrichment cultures belonged to Pyrococcus. The combination of high pressure and high temperature for enrichment was shown to be an efficient method for isolating Pyrococcus strains. Through selecting and analyzing with multiple molecular phylogenetic markers, the isolated Thermococcales strains were found quite diversified including several putative novel species. 9Holocene Vegetation and Climate Changes in the Huangqihai Lake Region, Inner Mongolia显示文摘A consensus on Holocene climate variability at the modern northern fringe of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) region remains elusive. Here, we present a pollen-based reconstruction of vegetation history and associated climate variations of a sediment core from Huangqihai Lake, central Inner Mongolia. During 10.7 to 8.8 cal kaBP, typical steppe with small patches of forest dominated the lake area, suggesting a moderately wet climate, followed by ameliorating climatic conditions until 8.0 cal kaBP as deduced by the expansion of forest. Typical steppe recovered the lake area between 8.0 and 7.2 cal kaBP, reflecting a deterioration of climatic conditions;in combination with other proxy records in the study region, we noticed that severe aridity was prevailed in the lake area between 8.0 and 7.6 cal kaBP. During 7.2 to 3.2 cal kaBP, abundant tree pollen indicated dominance of forest-steppe around the lake, marking regionally wet conditions. A notable absence of broadleaved trees after 5.2 cal kaBP reveals a slight drying trend, and climate deterioration from 4.5 to 4.1 cal kaBP might be linked to the 4.2 ka event. After 3.2 cal kaBP, a transition to steppe was associated with dry conditions in the region. Based on our pollen record and prior paleoclimatic reconstructions in the Huangqihai Lake region, there was a generally-accepted, stepwise shift to a wet climate during the early Holocene, an overall humid climate from 7.2 to 3.2 cal kaBP, and then severe drought for the rest of the Holocene. 10Evidence of Abrupt Climate Change during the Mid-to Late-Holocene Recorded in a Tropical Lake, Southern China显示文摘Research on abrupt paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental change provides a scientific basis for evaluating future climate. Because of spatial variability in monsoonal rainfall, our knowledge about climate change during the mid-to lateHolocene in southern China is still limited. We present a multi-proxy record of paleoclimatic change in a crater lake, Lake Shuangchi. Based on the age-depth model from 210 Pb, 137 Cs and AMS14 C data, high-resolution mid-to late-Holocene climatic and environmental records were reconstructed using multiple indices(TOC, TN, C/N, δ13 C and grain size). Shuangchi underwent a marked change from a peat bog to a lake around 1.4 kaBP. The C3 plants likely dominated during 7.0–5.9 ka and 2.5–1.4 kaBP, while C4 plants dominated between 5.9–3.2 and 3.0–2.5 kaBP. Algae were dominant sources of organic matter in the lake sediments after 1.4 kaBP. Several intervals with high concentrations of coarser grain sizes might be due to flood events. These results reveal that several abrupt paleoclimatic events occurred around 6.6 ka, 6.1 ka, 5.9 ka, 3.0 ka, 2.5 ka and 1.4 kaBP.
