1Saline-Alkali Tolerance in Rice: Physiological Response, Molecular Mechanism, and QTL Identification and Application to Breeding显示文摘Salinity-alkalinity is incipient abiotic stress that impairs plant growth and development.Rice(Oryza sativa)is a major food crop greatly affected by soil salinity and alkalinity, requiring tolerant varieties in the saline-alkali prone areas.Understanding the molecular and physiological mechanisms of saline-alkali tolerance paves the base for improving saline-alkali tolerance in rice and leads to progress in breeding. This review illustrated the physiological consequences, and molecular mechanisms especially signaling and function of regulating genes for saline-alkali tolerance in rice plants. We also discussed QTLs regarding saline-alkali tolerance accordingly and ways of deployment for improvement.More efforts are needed to identify and utilize the identified QTLs for saline-alkali tolerance in rice.Ratan Kumar GANAPATI Shahzad Amir NAVEED Sundus ZAFAR WANG Wensheng XU Jianlong 2022Rice science2022,29,5:8
2Role of Joshi's external stabilization system with percutaneous screw fixation in high-energy tibial condylar fractures associated with severe soft tissue injuries显示文摘Purpose: The treatment of high-energy tibial condylar fractures which are associated with severe soft tissue injuries remains contentious and challenging. In this study, we assessed the results of Joshi's external stabilization system (JESS) by using the principle of ligamentotaxis and percutaneous screw fixation for managing high-energy tibial condylar fractures associated with severe soft tissue injuries. Methods: Between June 2008 and June 2010, 25 consecutive patients who were 17-71 years (mean, 39.7), underwent the JESS fixation for high-energy tibial condylar fractures associated with severe soft tissue injuries. Out of 25 patients, 2 were lost during follow-up and in 1 case early removal of frame was done, leaving 22 cases for final follow-up. Among them, 11 had poor skin condition with abrasions and blisters and 2 were open injuries (Gustilo-Anderson grade I & 11). The injury mechanisms were motor vehicle accidents (n - 19), fall from a height (n = 2) and assault (n - 1). The fractures were classified according to Schatzker classification system. Results: There were 7 type-V, 14 type-Vl and 1 type-IV Schatzker's tibial plateau fractures. The average interval between the injury and surgery was 6.8 days (range 2-13). The average hospital stay was 13 days (range, 7-22). The average interval between the surgery and full weight bearing was 13.6 weeks (range 11-20). The average range of knee flexion was 121° (range 105°-135°). The normal extension of the knee was observed in 20 patients, and an extensor lag of 5°-8° was noted in 2 patients. The complications included superficial pin tract infections (n 4) with no knee stiffness. Conclusion: JESS with lag screw fixation combines the benefit of traction, external fixation, and limited internal fixation, at the same time as allowing the ease of access to the soft tissue for wound checks, pin care, dressing changes, measurement of compartment pressure, and the monitoring of the neurovascular status. In a nutshell, JESS along with screw fixation offers a promising alternative treatment for high- energy tibial condylar fractures associated with severe soft tissue injuries.Ashish Kumar Gupta Rahul Sapra Rakesh Kumar Som Prakash Gupta Devwart Kaushik Sahil Gaba Mahesh Chand Bansal Ratan Lal Dayma 2015Chinese Journal of Traumatology2015,18,6:4
3Synergism of co-delivered nanosized antioxidants displayed enhanced anticancer efficacy in human colon cancer cell lines显示文摘Combination of chemopreventive and/or therapeutic agents is the imminent smart approach to cope upwith cancer because it may act on multiple targets through different pathways. In the present study, wehave synthesized multiple chemopreventive and/or therapeutic agents (Curcumin, Quercetin andAspirin) loaded nanoparticles by simple cation-anion interaction among the amine groups of chitosan(CS) and phosphate groups of sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP). These nanosized bioactive materials(CS-SHMP-CQA-NPs) were well characterized and found most effective in colon cancer cell line (HCT-116)compared to other cancer cell lines. Triplex chemopreventive and/or therapeutic agents-loaded NPs weresynergistically inducing apoptosis in HCT-116 cells compared to two-chemopreventive agents-loadedNPs as evident by an increase in sub-G1 cells (percent), and chromatin condensation along with thedecrease in mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). Interestingly, ChoueTalalay analysis revealedthat CS-SHMP-CQA-NPs showed strong synergistic effect in its all doses. Thus, our study demonstratesthat nanoparticles based bioactive materials significantly inhibit the growth of HCT-116 cells and thuscould be a promising approach for colon cancer chemoprevention.Lipika Ray Manish Kumar Pal Ratan Singh Ray 2017Bioactive Materials2017,2,2:2

10Optical Character Recognition for printed Tamil text using Unicode显示文摘Optical Character Recognition (OCR) refers to the process of converting printed Tamil text documents into software translated Unicode Tamil Text. The printed documents available in the form of books, papers, magazines, etc. are scanned using standard scanners which produce an image of the scanned document. As part of the preprocessing phase the image file is checked for skewing. If the image is skewed, it is corrected by a simple rotation technique in the appropriate direction. Then the image is passed through a noise elimination phase and is binarized. The preprocessed image is segmented using an algorithm which de- composes the scanned text into paragraphs using special space detection technique and then the paragraphs into lines using vertical histograms, and lines into words using horizontal histograms, and words into character image glyphs using horizontal histograms. Each image glyph is comprised of 32×32 pixels. Thus a database of character image glyphs is created out of the segmentation phase. Then all the image glyphs are considered for recognition using Unicode mapping. Each image glyph is passed through various routines which extract the features of the glyph. The various features that are considered for classification are the character height, character width, the number of horizontal lines (long and short), the number of vertical lines (long and short), the hori- zontally oriented curves, the vertically oriented curves, the number of circles, number of slope lines, image centroid and special dots. The glyphs are now set ready for classification based on these features. The extracted features are passed to a Support Vector Machine (SVM) where the characters are classified by Supervised Learning Algorithm. These classes are mapped onto Unicode for recognition. Then the text is reconstructed using Unicode fonts.SEETHALAKSHMI R. SREERANJANI T.R. BALACHANDAR T. 17Integrative assessment of biomarker responses in teleostean fishes exposed to glyphosate-based herbicide(Excel Mera 71)显示文摘Present study deals with the effects of glyphosate-based herbicide,Excel Mera 71 on Anabas testudineus,Heteropnestes fossilis and Oreochromis niloticus in field conditions(1.85 kg/ha)based on anti-oxidative,metabolic and digestive responses. For this study following biomarkers viz.,acetylcholinesterase(AChE),lipid peroxidation(LPO),catalase(CAT),glutathione-S-transferase(GST),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),amylase, lipase and protease were investigated in gill, stomach, intestine, liver, kidney, brain, muscle and spinal cord of the concerned fish species.Enzyme activities were significantly altered by glyphosate exposure after 30 days, these activities were tissue as well as species specific. The results suggested that these biomarkers could be used to assess the ecological risks of glyphosate on fish.Bioaccumulation factor(BAF)studied in different aquatic natural macrophytes showed order of Alternanthera philoxeroides>Azolla pinnata>Lemna sp.(Minor)>Lemna sp.(Major)>Pistia stratiotes, while transfer factor(TF)showed the order of Pistia stratiotes>Alternanthera philoxeroides>Lemna sp.Bioconcentration factor(BCF)study showed maximum accumulation of glyphosate in liver, kidney or intestine, and minimum either in bone or stomach irrespective of fish species. An integrated biomarker response(IBR),which uses a battery of biomarkers to calculate the standardized scores for each biomarker responses ranging from physiological to biochemical/molecular responses, was evaluated by combining the multiple biomarkers into a single value to evaluate quantitatively the toxicological effects of glyphosate. In general, the multiple indices exhibited variations and A.testudineus was more affected than other fish species;maximum IBR value was observed for LPO and minimum in case of ALT.The order of integrated biomarkers caused by glyphosate treatment was recorded as follows:LPO>Amylase>CAT>AST>Protease>Lipase>ALP>GST>AChE>ALT for A.testudineus,LPO>AChE>AST>Protease>CAT>Amylase>Lipase>GST>ALP>ALT for H.fossilis and AChE>CAT>LPO>AST>Amylase>GST>Protease>ALP>Lipase>ALT for O.niloticus.Finally,IBR analysis is able to distinguish the variations between different parameters and might be a useful tool for the quantification of integrated responses induced by glyphosate toward fish.Sukhendu Dey Palas Samanta Sandipan Pal Aloke Kumar Mukherjee Debraj Kole Apurba Ratan Ghosh 2016Emerging Contaminants2016,2,4:0
18Pressure-Induced Instability Characteristics of a Transient Flow and Energy Distribution through a Loosely Bent Square Duct显示文摘Due to widespread applications of the bent ducts in engineering fields such as in chemical,mechanical,bio-mechanical and bio-medical engineering, scientists have paid considerable attention to invent new characteristics of fluid flow in a bent duct(BD).In the ongoing study,a spectral-based numerical technique is applied to explore flow characteristics and energy distribution through a loosely bent square duct(BSD)of small curvature.Flow is accelerated due to combined action of the non-dimensional parameters;the Grashof number Gr(=1000),the curvatureδ(=0.001),and the Prandtl number Pr(=7.0)over a wide domain of the Dean number 0Sreedham Chandra Adhikari Ratan Kumar Chanda Sidhartha Bhowmick Rabindra Nath Mondal Suvash Chandra Saha 2022Energy Engineering2022,119,1:0
19Investigation on the Trap Signature in Organic Semiconductor Turmeric Film Through Current-Voltage Analysis显示文摘The analytical description of the trap signature in the charge conduction process of turmeric dye-based organic semiconductor has been presented in this study. An analytical explanation of the built-in potential Ⅴx-Ⅴ graph that emphasizes the presence of trapping states has been provided.Differential analysis of current-voltage(Ⅰ-Ⅴ)characteristics has also been conducted to verify the trap signature of the carrier in the device. The non-monotonous decrement of the G(Ⅴ)-Ⅴ plot verifies the trap signature. The values of trap energy(Et)and trap factor(θ)have been derived from the logarithmic Ⅰ-Ⅴ relationship. From the analysis of the semilogarithmic Ⅰ-Ⅴ plot, the barrier height(ϕbi)of the device has also been determined. The overallⅠ-Ⅴcurve has been taken into account to examine the Richardson-Schottky and Poole-Frenkel effects on the trap-assisted charge conduction process. From the results of the experiment, the Schottky effect has been observed to be effective, which leads to a bulk-limited charge conduction process.Kushal Chakraborty Aloke Kumar Das Ratan Mandal Dulal Krishna Mandal 2020Transactions of Tianjin University2020,26,4:0
