| 1 | 42,573 cases of hepatectomy in China: a multicenter retrospective investigation显示文摘Hepatectomy is currently routinely performed in most hospitals in China. China owns the largest population of liver diseases and the biggest number of liver resection cases. A nationwide multicenter retrospective investigation involving 112 hospitals was performed, and focused on liver resection for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). 42,573 cases of hepatectomy were enrolled, and 18,275 valid cases of liver resection for HCC patients were selected for statistical analysis. The epidemiology of HCC, distribution of hepatectomy, postoperative complications and prognosis were finally analyzed. In the 18,275 HCC patients,81% had hepatitis B virus infection and 10% had hepatitis C virus infection. 38% of the HCC patients had normal Alphafetoprotein(AFP) level, and other 35% had an AFP level lower than 400 ng mL^(-1). In the study period, 97% of the hepatectomy for HCC were treated with open surgery, and 23.81% had vascular exclusion techniques. The operation time was(191.7±105.6) min,the blood loss was(546.0±562.8) m L, and blood transfusion was(543.0±1,035.2) m L. The median survival for HCC patients was 631 days, with 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival of 73.2%, 28.8% and 19.6%, respectively. | 2 | Effect of Cyclocarya paliurus polysaccharides on streptozotocin-induced diabetic nephropathy in rats显示文摘OBJEVTIVE:To investigate the efficacy of Cyclocarya paliurus(C.paliurus)polysaccharides on streptozotocin-induced diabetic nephropathy in rats.METHODS:Rats were divided into 6 groups,including group of normal control,group of diabetic control,group of metformin treatment,low-dose group of C.paliurus polysaccharides treatment,middle-dose group of C.paliurus polysaccharides treatment and high-dose group of C.paliurus polysaccharides treatment.Histological analysis of kidney was analyzed using hematoxilin and eosin.Levels of blood glucose,creatinine,urea,uric acid were determined by spectrophotometry.Anti-oxidative enzymes were measured by real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Advanced glycation end products(AGEs)and transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)level was measured by ELISA.RESULTS:Abnormal changes were observed in the group of diabetic control characterized by atrophy of the renal glomeruli with hypercellularity,congestion of glomerular tufts,dilation of the renal spaces,and degeneration of renal tubule.Compared with that of normal group,blood glucose,creatinine,urea,uric acid level was significantly increased in the group of diabetic control.Superoxide dismutase,catalase,glutathione peroxidase,glutathione reductase level was significantly decreased,but AGEs and TGF-β1 level was significantly increased.By contrast,administration of C.paliurus polysaccharides and metformin could reverse the above-mentioned results of the group of diabetic control,especially in the high-dose group of C.paliurus polysaccharides.CONCLUSION:Our findings suggest that C.paliurus polysaccharides may play a protecting role for nephropathy of diabetic rats by lowering glucose,creatinine,urea,uric acid level,enhancing the antioxidative ability,and reducing AGEs and TGF-β1 expression. | Xia Xichao Mao Dongxue Dai Hongmei Wu Xi Zhang Zuyuan Wang Huaying Zhou Wenwen Dong Yanmei Wang Mengqi Li Yuan Shao Xiangyang Ouyang Jingfeng | 2020 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2020,40,6: | 9 |
| 3 | Forms and Balance of Nitrogen and Phosphorus in Cage Culture Waters in Guangdong Province, China显示文摘In order to approach the characteristics of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution caused by cage culture and the balance of nitrogen and phosphorus during the process of cage culture, a monitoring was conducted in Daya Bay of Guangdong Province, China from April 2002 to Jane 2003. The results show that the concentrations of total nitrogen (TN) in the waters at the sites with five and ten years of cage culture history are 1.8 and 2.3 times of that at control site respectively. Ammonium (NH3-N) is the main form of nitrogen in spring while nitrate ( NO3 -) in winter. The concentrations of TN, total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) and dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) are highest in autumn. The concentration of phosphorus increases with the increasing of the culturing time, among which phosphate ( PO 34-) increases most obviously. The concentrations of total phosphorus (TP) and total dissolved phosphorus (TDP) are highest in autumn. The nitrogen and phosphorus are accumulated significantly in the sediment of cage culture area. The model of N balance in the cage culture area: bait (70.62%) + fry (0.28%) + input by tide (14.8%) + release from sediment (14.3%) = harvest of adult fish (12.07%) + deposition into sediment (28.75%) + output by tide (56.18%) + others (3.00%). The model of P balance: bait (83.11%) + fry (0.17%) + input by tide (12.23%) + release from sediment (4.49%) = harvest of adult fish (8.43%) + deposition into sediment (48.59%) + output by tide (41.94%) + others (1.04%). | 4 | Development of a machine learning model to predict early recurrence for hepatocellular carcinoma after curative resection显示文摘Background:Early recurrence is common for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)after surgical resection,being the leading cause of death.Traditionally,the COX proportional hazard(CPH)models based on linearity assumption have been used to predict early recurrence,but predictive performance is limited.Machine learning models offer a novel methodology and have several advantages over CPH models.Hence,the purpose of this study was to compare random survival forests(RSF)model with CPH models in prediction of early recurrence for HCC patients after curative resection.Methods:A total of 4,758 patients undergoing curative resection from two medical centers were included.Fifteen features including age,gender,etiology,platelet count,albumin,total bilirubin,AFP,tumor size,tumor number,microvascular invasion,macrovascular invasion,Edmondson-Steiner grade,tumor capsular,satellite nodules and liver cirrhosis were used to construct the RSF model in training cohort.Discrimination,calibration,clinical usefulness and overall performance were assessed and compared with other models.Results:Five hundred survival trees were used to generate the RFS model.The five highest Variable Importance(VIMP)were tumor size,macrovascular invasion,microvascular invasion,tumor number and AFP.In training,internal and external validation cohort,the C-index of RSF model were 0.725[standard errors(SE)=0.005],0.762(SE=0.011)and 0.747(SE=0.016),respectively;the Gönen&Heller’s K of RSF model were 0.684(SE=0.005),0.711(SE=0.008)and 0.697(SE=0.014),respectively;the time-dependent AUC(2 years)of RSF model were 0.818(SE=0.008),0.823(SE=0.014)and 0.785(SE=0.025),respectively.The RSF model outperformed early recurrence after surgery for liver tumor(ERASL)model,Korean model,American Joint Committee on Cancer tumor-node-metastasis(AJCC TNM)stage,Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC)stage and Chinese stage.The RSF model is capable of stratifying patients into three different risk groups(low-risk,intermediate-risk,high-risk groups)in the training and two validation cohorts(all P<0.0001).A web-based prediction tool was built to facilitate clinical application(http://gffzz8caf4f582aa3478es5o5fqxbcu5x660v9.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/surgery_predict/).Conclusions:The RSF model is a reliable tool to predict early recurrence for patients with HCC after curative resection because it exhibited superior performance compared with other models.This novel model will be helpful to guide postoperative follow-up and adjuvant therapy. | Jianxing Zeng Jinhua Zeng Kongying Lin Haitao Lin Qionglan Wu Pengfei Guo Weiping Zhou Jingfeng Liu | 2022 | Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2022,11,2: | 6 |
| 5 | The temporal and spatial fluctuation of the groundwater level along the Tarim Desert Highway显示文摘In this work, a groundwater monitor section along the Tarim Desert Highway was set up, and the groundwater level data were recorded. The temporal and spatial fluctuations of the groundwater level were analyzed based on the groundwater level measurements, hydrologic data, the groundwater/surface water interconversion theory and the groundwater dynamics. The spatial distribution of groundwater is mostly affected by sand dune height and landform variation. The four primary temporal influence factors of groundwater level can be ordered in decreasing significance as: shelterbelt pumping > vertical leakage > river flow change > runoff replenishment. The runoff replenishment has the biggest influence range, and the shelterbelt pumping has the smallest influence range. | 6 | Efficacy of Bushenjianpi prescription on autoimmune premature ovarian failure in mice显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of Bushenjianpi prescription(BSJPP), a formula from Traditional Chinese Medicine, on a mouse model of autoimmune premature ovarian failure(POF) induced by mouse zona pellucida(ZP3) and to investigate the mechanisms underlying the action.METHODS: After randomization, POF was induced in the model mice by immunization with ZP3. One week later, mice received low(8.1 mg/kg), moderate(16.2 mg/kg) and high(32.4 mg/kg) doses of BSJPP by gastrogavage once daily for 90 days. Premarin(0.03 mg/kg) served as the positive group. Serum samples were collected 1 week after the last dose and stored at-20 ℃ for analysis. After cervical dislocation, the uterus and ovaries were collected aseptically for evaluation by histological assessment, scanning electron microscopy, immunohistochemical staining, and Western blot and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analyses.RESULTS: Serum E2 levels in POF model mice were decreased, whereas follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and luteinizing hormone(LH) levels were dramatically increased. Serum levels of E2,LH and FSH were reduced in POF model mice treated with BSJPP(moderate and high doses) and premarin. | 9 | Activation of transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase DDR1-STAT3 cascade by extracellular matrix remodeling promotes liver metastatic colonization in uveal melanoma显示文摘Colonization is believed a rate-limiting step of metastasis cascade.However,its underlying mechanism is not well understood.Uveal melanoma(UM),which is featured with single organ liver metastasis,may provide a simplified model for realizing the complicated colonization process.Because DDR1 was identified to be overexpressed in UM cell lines and specimens,and abundant pathological deposition of extracellular matrix collagen,a type of DDR1 ligand,was noted in the microenvironment of liver in metastatic patients with UM,we postulated the hypothesis that DDR1 and its ligand might ignite the interaction between UM cells and their surrounding niche of liver thereby conferring strengthened survival,proliferation,sternness and eventually promoting metastatic colonization in liver.We tested this hypothesis and found that DDR1 promoted these malignant cellular phenotypes and facilitated metastatic colonization of UM in liver.Mechanistically,UM cells secreted TGF-β1 which induced quiescent hepatic stellate cells(qHSCs)into activated HSCs(aHSCs)which secreted collagen type I.Such a remodeling of extracellular matrix,in turn,activated DDR1,strengthening survival through upregulating STAT3-dependent Mcl-1 expression,enhancing sternness via upregulating STAT3-dependent S0X2,and promoting clonogenicity in cancer cells.Targeting DDR1 by using 7rh,a specific inhibitor,repressed proliferation and survival in vitro and in vivo outgrowth.More importantly,targeting cancer cells by pharmacological inactivation of DDR1 or targeting microenvironmental TGF-β1-collagen I loop exhibited a prominent anti-metastasis effect in mice.In conclusion,targeting DDR1 signaling and TGF-β1 signaling may be a novel approach to diminish hepatic metastasis in UM. | Wei Dai Shenglan Liu Shubo Wang Li Zhao Xiao Yang Jingfeng Zhou Yun Wang Jing Zhang Ping Zhang Ke Ding Yangqiu Li Jingxuan Pan | 2021 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,6: | 3 |
| 10 | Clear mortality gap caused by graft macrosteatosis in Chinese patients after cadaveric liver transplantation显示文摘Background:Liver transplantation(LT)is one of the most effective surgical treatment for patients with end-stage liver disease.Steatosis is a contributor for inferior graft quality.But its impact and safety on transplantation was less assessed in Chinese patients.Methods:Graft steatosis and related information involved in recipients,donors and surgical procedures were retrospectively collected from 239 patients.Results:Donor macrosteatosis(MaS)caused about 2.14 and 2.80 folds of increment on patient and graft mortality.Dose-response analysis revealed prominent risk of grafts on overall patient/organ mortality when MaS content exceeded 10%(P<0.05).Noteworthy,deaths were only observed in MaS group when concurrent with extremely higher post-transplant alanine aminotransferase(ALT,64%).However,microsteatosis(MiS)grafts didn’t affect outcomes after LT.In a cohort of Chinese patients,MaS had comprehensive effects on post-transplant outcomes with relatively lower safety threshold at 10%.Mortality gap caused by MaS grafts was observed in patients with severer ischemia reperfusion injury.Conclusions:Our study revealled the graft MaS affected the post-transplant outcomes in lower risk cutoff in Chinese patients.Further study is worthy to validate these results and investigate inner mechanism under the phenomenon. | Zhengtao Liu Wenchao Wang Li Zhuang Jingfeng Liu Shuping Que Dan Zhu Linfang Dong Jian Yu Lin Zhou Shusen Zheng | 2020 | Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2020,9,6: | 2 |
| 11 | Strong controls of daily minimum temperature on the autumn photosynthetic phenology of subtropical vegetation in China显示文摘Background:Vegetation phenology research has largely focused on temperate deciduous forests,thus limiting our understanding of the response of evergreen vegetation to climate change in tropical and subtropical regions.Results:Using satellite solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence(SIF)and MODIS enhanced vegetation index(EVI)data,we applied two methods to evaluate temporal and spatial patterns of the end of the growing season(EGS)in subtropical vegetation in China,and analyze the dependence of EGS on preseason maximum and minimum temperatures as well as cumulative precipitation.Our results indicated that the averaged EGS derived from the SIF and EVI based on the two methods(dynamic threshold method and derivative method)was later than that derived from gross primary productivity(GPP)based on the eddy covariance technique,and the time-lag for EGSsif and EGSevi was approximately 2 weeks and 4 weeks,respectively.We found that EGS was positively correlated with preseason minimum temperature and cumulative precipitation(accounting for more than 73%and 62%of the study areas,respectively),but negatively correlated with preseason maximum temperature(accounting for more than 59%of the study areas).In addition,EGS was more sensitive to the changes in the preseason minimum temperature than to other climatic factors,and an increase in the preseason minimum temperature significantly delayed the EGS in evergreen forests,shrub and grassland.Conclusions:Our results indicated that the SIF outperformed traditional vegetation indices in capturing the autumn photosynthetic phenology of evergreen forest in the subtropical region of China.We found that minimum temperature plays a significant role in determining autumn photosynthetic phenology in the study region.These findings contribute to improving our understanding of the response of the EGS to climate change in subtropical vegetation of China,and provide a new perspective for accurately evaluating the role played by evergreen vegetation in the regional carbon budget. | Peixin Ren Zelin Liu Xiaolu Zhou Changhui Peng Jingfeng Xiao Songhan Wang Xing Li Peng Li | 2021 | Forest Ecosystems2021,8,3: | 2 |
