| 1 | Diagnosis of ectopic pancreas by endoscopic ultrasound with fine-needle aspiration显示文摘AIM:To study the clinical,endoscopic,sonographic,and cytologic features of ectopic pancreas(EP).METHODS:This was a retrospective study performedat an academic referral center including two hospitals.Institutional review board approval was obtained.Patients referred to the University Hospital or Denver Health Medical Center Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Lab for gastroduodenal subepithelial lesions(SEL)with a final diagnosis of EP between January 2009and December 2013 were identified.Patients in this group were selected for the study if they underwent endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)with fine-needle aspiration(FNA)or deep biopsy.A review of the medical record was performed specifically to review the following information:presenting symptoms,endoscopic and EUS findings,computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging findings,pathology results,procedure-related adverse events,and subsequent treatments after EUSFNA.EUS with FNA or deep submucosal biopsy was performed in all patients on an outpatient basais by one of two physicians(Attwell A,Fukami N).Review of all subsequent clinic notes and operative reports was performed in order to determine follow-up and final diagnoses.RESULTS:Between July 2009 and December 2013,10patients[3 males,7 females,median age 52(26-64)years]underwent EUS for a gastroduodenal SEL and were diagnosed with EP.One patient was symptomatic.Six(60%)lesions were in the antrum,3(30%)in the body,and 1(10%)in the duodenum.A mucosal dimple was noted in 6(60%).Mean lesion size was 17(8-25)mm.Gastrointestinal wall involvement:muscularis mucosae,10%;submucosa,70%;muscularis propria,60%;and serosa,10%.Nine(90%)lesions were hypoechoic and 5(50%)were homogenous.A duct was seen in 5(50%).FNA was attempted in 9(90%)and successful in 8(80%)patients after 4(2-6)passes.Cytology showed acini or ducts in 7 of 8(88%).Superficial biopsies in 7 patients(70%)showed normal gastric mucosa.Deep endoscopic biopsies were taken in 2 patients and diagnostic in one.One patient(10%)developed pancreatitis after EUS-FNA.Two patients(20%)underwent surgery to relieve symptoms or confirm the diagnosis.The main limitation of the study was the fact that it was retrospective and performed at a single medical center.CONCLUSION:EUS features of EP include antral location,mucosal dimple,location in layers 3-4,and lesional duct,and FNA or biopsy is accurate and effective. | Augustin Attwell Sharon Sams Norio Fukami | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,8: | 22 |

| 3 | Unusual presentation of a pancreatic cyst resulting from osteosarcoma metastasis显示文摘Pancreatic metastases are uncommon. They have been reported in lung cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, breast cancer, renal cell carcinoma, melanoma, lymphoma and sarcoma, and usually have solid morphology. Cystic metastasis to the pancreas is even more rare with few case reports in the literature. However, with the increasing use of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging as well as endoscopic ultrasound, more such lesions may be detected. Metastasis to the pancreas from osteosarcoma is highly unusual, but can be seen with the increasing survival of patients with osteosarcoma. We present an extremely rare case of a predominantly cystic lesion of the pancreas, which was diagnosed as metastasis from osteosarcoma. The pathophysiology of the cystic component of the metastasis of osteosarcoma is unknown. Cystic necrotic degeneration of the solid metastasis or pancreatitis secondary to the metastasis with development of associated fluid collection can be considered. | 4 | Influence of Si,Ce,Sb and Sn on chunky graphite formation显示文摘The thirteen mother alloys,C%+1/3Si%=4.45%,differing in their Si,Ce,Sb and Sn contents,were prepared.Seventy grams of these alloys was remelted in a high purity alumina crucible at 1,450oC under an Ar atmosphere,and then cooled at 30 K/min for obtaining their cooling curves.Their graphite morphologies were observed using an optical microscope and an SEM.Their three-dimensional graphite shapes were observed by the SEM using the samples whose matrices were etched off with an acid-aqua solution,to confirm the chunky graphite.For discussing the influence of the Si and Ce contents on the chunky graphite formation,two experiments were carried out.In the first one,the Si contents were changed from 0 to 4% in the 0.15%Ce alloys,and for the second one,the 3.5%Si and 4%Si samples that differed in the Ce contents of 0.1 and 0.2% were used.In the third experiment,the influence of Sb and Sn on the chunky graphite formation was investigated by using the 4%Si and 0.1%Ce samples.The results showed that with the increase of the Si content,the volume fraction of the chunky graphite increases,while the volume fraction of the ledeburite decreases,and the chunky graphite volume fraction in the 0.2%Ce samples is higher than that of the 0.1%Ce samples.The effect of the Sb and Sn additions on the prevention of chunky graphite formation cannot be confirmed due to their high Si contents.Therefore,further studies will be needed in this field. | Hideo Nakae Masayuki Fukami Takayuki Kitazawa Ying Zou | 2011 | China Foundry2011,8,1: | 3 |
