Large-scale analysis of small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese herbs in human tissues显示文摘Plant-derived microRNAs have recently been reported to function in human blood and tissues. Controversy was immediately raised due to possible contamination and the lack of large sample sizes. Here, we report thousands of unique small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) herbs found in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues using a large-scale analysis. We extracted small RNAs from decoctions of 10 TCM plants(Ban Zhi Lian, Chai Hu, Chuan Xin Lian, Di Ding Zi Jin, Huang Qin, Jin Yin Hua, Lian Qiao, Pu Gong Ying, Xia Ku Cao, and Yu Xing Cao) and obtained millions of RNA sequences from each herb. We also obtained RNA-Seq data from the blood cells of humans who consumed herbal decoctions and from the lung tissues of mice administered RNAs from herbal decoctions via oral gavage. We identified thousands of unique small RNA sequences in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues. Some of these identified small RNAs from Chuan Xin Lian and Hong Jing Tian could be mapped to the genomes of the herbs, confirming their TCM plant origin. Small RNAs derived from herbs regulate mammalian gene expression in a sequence-specific manner, and thus are a superior novel class of herbal drug components that hold great potential as oral gene-targeted therapeutics, highlighting the important role of herbgenomics in their development. | Fengming Huang Jianchao Du Zhu Liang Zhichao Xu Jiantao Xu Yan Zhao Yexuan Lin Song Mei Quan He Jindong Zhu Qiang Liu Yanxu Zhang Yuhao Qin Wei Sun Jingyuan Song Shilin Chen Chengyu Jiang | 2019 | Science China(Life Sciences)2019,62,3: | 14
Palaeoenvironmental changes from pollen record in deep sea core PC-1 from northern Okinawa Trough,East China Sea during the past 24 ka显示文摘A pollen record of core PC-1 from the northern Okinawa Trough,East China Sea(ECS),provides information on vegetation and climate changes since 24 cal.kaBP.A total of 103 samples were palynologically analyzed at 8 cm intervals with a time resolution of 230 a.Four pollen zones are recognized:zone I(812―715 cm,24.2―21.1 cal.kaBP),zone II(715―451 cm,21.1―15.2 cal.kaBP),zone III(451―251 cm,15.2―10.8 cal.kaBP),zone IV(251―0 cm,10.8―0.3 cal.kaBP),corresponding to Late MIS 3,Last Glacial Maximum(LGM),deglaciation and Holocene, respectively. The LGM is characterized by the dominance of herbs, mainly Artemisia, and high pollen influx, implying an open vegetation on the exposed continental shelf and a cool and dry climate. The deglaciation is a climate warming stage with Pinus percentage increased and Artemisia percentage decreased and a rapid sealevel rise. The Holo-cene is characterized by predominance of tree pollen with rapid increase in Castanea-Castanopsis in-dicating the development of mixed evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved forest and a warm, humid climate.Low pollen influx during the Holocene probably implies submergence of the continental shelf and retreat of the pollen source area. The vegetation indicated by pollen assemblage found in this upper zone is consistent with the present vegetation found in Kyushu,Japan.Originating from the humid mountain area of North Luzon of the Philippines,Tasmania and New Zealand,Phyllocladus with sporadic occurrence throughout PC-1 core probably suggests the influence of Palaeo-Kuroshio Current or intense summer monsoon. The observed changes in Pinus and Herbs percentage indicate fluctuations of the sea level, and high Pinus percentage corresponds to high sea level.Spectrum analysis of the pollen percentage record reveals many millennial-scale periodicities, such as periodicities of 6.8,3.8,2.2,1.6 ka. | XU HongYan CHANG FengMing LUO YunLi SUN XiangJun | 2009 | Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,20: | 9
Calcareous nannofossil bioevents and microtektite stratigraphy in the Western Philippine Sea during the Quaternary显示文摘Two sediment cores, MD06-3050 and MD06-3047, were analyzed to study the Quaternary calcareous nannofossil and microtektite records. We dated bioevents and the microtektite impact event by calibrating with oxygen isotope stratigraphy. Seven calcareous nannofossil bioevents were identified over the past 2.36 Ma including the last appearance of data for Discoaster brouweri, Calcidiscus macintyrei, large Gephyrocapsa and Pseudoemiliania lacunosa, the first appearance of data for large Gephyrocapsa and Emiliania huxleyi, and the abrupt increase in the abundance of Gephyrocapsa caribbeanica. In addition, we fortunately observed that Australasian microtektites were distributed in core MD06-3050 from 1340 to 1374 cm. | SUN HanJie LI TieGang SUN RongTao YU XinKe CHANG FengMing TANG Zheng | 2011 | Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,25: | 3
AEROELASTIC PROPERTIES OF SANDWICH BEAM WITH PYRAMIDAL LATTICE CORE CONSIDERING GEOMETRIC NONLINEARITY IN THE SUPERSONIC AIRFLOW显示文摘The equation of motion of sandwich beam with pyramidal lattice core in the supersonic flow considering geometric nonlinearity is formulated using Hamilton's principle. The piston theory is used to evaluate aerodynamic pressure. The structural aeroelastic properties are analyzed using frequency- and time-domain methods, and some interesting phenomena are observed. It is noted that the flutter of sandwich beam occurs under the coupling effect of low order modes. The critical flutter aerodynamic pressure of the sandwich beam is higher than that of the isotropic beam with the same weight, length and width. The influence of inclination angle of core truss on flutter characteristic is analyzed. | Fengming Li Zhiguang Song Chunchun Sun | 2015 | Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2015,28,6: | 3
The position of tree shrews in the mammalian tree:Comparing multi-gene analyses with phylogenomic results leaves monophyly of Euarchonta doubtful显示文摘The well-accepted Euarchonta grandorder is a pruned version of Archonta nested within the Euarchontoglires(or Supraprimates)clade. At present,it includes tree shrews(Scandentia),flying lemurs(Dermoptera)and primates(Primates). Here,a phylogenomic dataset containing 1912 exons from 22 representative mammals was compiled to investigate the phylogenetic relationships within this group.Phylogenetic analyses and hypothesis testing suggested that tree shrews can be classified as a sister group to Primates or to Glires or even as a basal clade within Euarchontoglires.Further analyses of both modified and original previously published datasets found that the phylogenetic position of tree shrews is unstable. We also found that two of three exonic indels reported as synapomorphies of Euarchonta in a previous study do not unambiguously support the monophyly of such a clade. Therefore, the monophyly of both Euarchonta and Sundatheria(Dermoptera+Scandentia)are suspect.Molecular dating and divergence rate analyses suggested that the ancestor of Euarchontoglires experienced a rapid divergence, which may cause the unresolved position of tree shrews even using the whole genomic data. | Xuming ZHOU Fengming SUN Shixia XU Guang YANG Ming LI | 2015 | Integrative Zoology2015,10,2: | 2
A comprehensive analysis of the Bencao(herbal)small RNA Atlas reveals novel RNA therapeutics for treating human diseases显示文摘Cross-kingdom herbal mi RNA was first reported in 2012.Using a modified herbal extraction protocol,we obtained 73,677,287sequences by RNA-seq from 245 traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),of which 20,758,257 were unique sequences. We constructed a Bencao(herbal)small RNA(s RNA)Atlas(http://gffzz4a3adbfa122d4a47hn5xcup9pqo9u600k.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn),annotated the sequences by sequence-based clustering, and created a nomenclature system for Bencao s RNAs.The profiles of 21,757 mi RNAs in the Atlas were highly consistent with those of plant mi RNAs in mi RBase.Using software tools, our results demonstrated that all human genes might be regulated by s RNAs from the Bencao s RNA Atlas, part of the predicted human target genes were experimentally validated, suggesting that Bencao s RNAs might be one of the main bioactive components of herbal medicines. We established roadmaps for oligonucleotide drugs development and optimization of TCM prescriptions. Moreover, the decoctosome,a lipo-nano particle consisting of 0.5%–2.5%of the decoction, demonstrated potent medical effects. We propose a Bencao(herbal)Index, including small-molecule compounds(SM),protein peptides(P),nucleic acid(N),non-nucleic and non-proteinogenic large-molecule compounds(LM)and elements from Mendeleev's periodic table(E),to quantitatively measure the medical effects of botanic medicine. The Bencao s RNA Atlas is a resource for developing gene-targeting oligonucleotide drugs and optimizing botanical medicine, and may provide potential remedies for the theory and practice of one medicine. | Yinghao Cao Yexuan Lin Na Sun Xinyi Du Yixin Dong Song Mei Xingyu Deng Xiaobei Li Shaoting Guo Kegong Tang Jiaqi Liu Xiangyu Qiao Dandan Zhao Yuhao Qin Cong Zhang Tianyi Xin Xiaohu Shi Congzhao Zhou Tao Dong De-an Guo Benedikt MKessler Dong Xu Jingyuan Song Fengming Huang Xiaoyue Wang Chengyu Jiang | 2023 | Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,10: | 2
A quantitative reconstruction of the paleoenviornmental variations of the South Yellow Sea inner shelf based on benthic foraminiferal transfer functions显示文摘Transfer functions between the benthic foraminiferal fauna of seventy-one sediment surface-samples retrieved from the South Yellow Sea inner shelf and the environmental factors, including the summer bottom-water salinity(Ss), the summer bottom-water temperature(Ts) and the winter bottom-water temperature(Tw) have been developed utilizing weighted averaging partial least square regression(WA-PLS). Subsequently, the transfer functions have been applied to a late Holocene piston core SY01 from the South Yellow Sea inner shelf, established the variation curves of the Ss, Ts, and Tw during the last 3.9 cal. ka. The Ss and Ts showed a nearly synchronous trend to the published stalagmite δ18O curve from the Jiuxian Cave, meaning they could be used as reliable indicators for the summer monsoon. Similarly, the Tw could be used as an indicator for the winter monsoon for its synchronous change to the insensitive grain size variation of the core ZY-2 retrieved from the Central Yellow Sea mud area. These results suggest that transfer functions based on benthic foraminiferal fauna can be a potentially useful tool in palaeoceanographic and palaeoenvironmental research along the Chinese seaboard. | SUN RongTao LI TieGang CHANG FengMing NAN QingYun LIU Xiao | 2015 | Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,9: | 2
A Novel Anti-Human Syndecan-1 (CD138) Monoclonal Antibody 4B3: Characterization and Application显示文摘Syndecan-1 (CD138), a member of integral membrane heparin sulfate proteoglycans, is an essential matrix receptor for maintaining the normal morphological phenotypes. In this study, we generated a specific mouse anti-human syndecan-1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) 4B3 and identified it by competition assay with the available syndecan-1 mAb (BB4). Stained by 4B3, the expression of syndecan-1 was detected on tumor cell lines, such as 8226, U266, XG-1, XG-2, Daudi and Jurkat. The expression was also found on neuron stem cells. It was established that 4B3 mAb could inhibit XG-1 and XG-2 proliferation. The data not only determined that 4B3 mAb was a functional anti-human syndecan-1 mAb, but also indicated that syndecan-1 might be a valuable surface antigen and play an important role in regulation of tumor pathology and differentiation of neural stem cells. This novel antibody 4B3 may be value of study of tumor proliferation/survival mechanism and contributes to diagnosis and treatment of diverse diseases. | Wanping Sun Fengming Wang Fang Xie Guoqing Wang Jin Sun Gehua Yu Yuhua Qiu Xueguang Zhang | 2007 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2007,4,3: | 1
The evolution of the Kuroshio Current over the last 5 million years since the Pliocene: Evidence from planktonic foraminiferal faunas显示文摘Meridional heat transport of the western Pacific boundary current(the Kuroshio Current)is one of the key factors in global climate change. This current is important because it controls the temperature gradient between low latitudes and the North Pacific and so significantly influences mid-latitude atmosphere-ocean interactions. Here we reconstruct changes in hydrological conditions within the mid-latitude mainstream of the Kuroshio Current based on faunal analysis of planktonic foraminifera in core DSDP 296 from the Northwest Pacific Ocean. This approach enabled us to deduce evolutionary processes within the Kuroshio Current since the Pliocene.A total of 57 species in the coarser section(>150μm)were identified;results indicate that planktonic foraminiferal faunal evolution has mainly been characterized by three major stages, the first of which comprised mixed-layer warm-water species of Globigerinoides ruber which first appeared between 3.5 and 2.7 Ma and then gradually increased in content.Percentages of another warm-water species of G.conglobatus also gradually increased in number over this interval.Variations in warm-water species indicate a gradual rise in sea surface temperature(SST)and imply initiation of Kuroshio Current impact on the Northwest Pacific Ocean since at least 3.5 Ma.Secondly, over the period between 2.7 and 2.0 Ma,thermocline species of Globigerina calida,Neogloboquadrina humersa,Neogloboquadrina dutertrei, and Pulleniatina obliquiloculata started to appear in the section. This fauna was dominated by G.ruber as well as increasing G.conglobatus contents. These features imply a further rise in SST and its gradually enhanced influence on thermocline water, suggesting strengthening of the Kuroshio Current since 2.7 Ma.Thirdly, between 2.0 Ma and present, increasing contents of thermocline species(i.e.,G.calida,N.dutertrei and P.obliquiloculata)indicate a gradual rise in seawater temperature at this depth and also imply more intensive Kuroshio Current during this period. On the basis of comparative records from cores ODP 806 and DSDP292 from the low latitude Western Pacific,we propose that initiation of the impact of the Kuroshio Current in the Northwest Pacific and it subsequent stepwise intensifications since 3.5 Ma can be closely related to the closure and restriction of the Indonesian and Central American seaways as well as variations in the Western Pacific Warm Pool(WPWP)and equatorial Pacific region. | Jia WANG Fengming CHANG Tiegang LI Hanjie SUN Yikun CUI Tianhao LIU | 2020 | Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,11: | 1
An invasive zone in human liver cancer identified by Stereo-seq promotes hepatocyte–tumor cell crosstalk, local immunosuppression and tumor progression显示文摘Dissecting and understanding the cancer ecosystem, especially that around the tumor margins, which have strong implications for tumor cell infiltration and invasion, are essential for exploring the mechanisms of tumor metastasis and developing effective new treatments.Using a novel tumor border scanning and digitization model enabled by nanoscale resolution-SpaTial Enhanced REsolution Omics-sequencing(Stereo-seq),we identified a 500µm-wide zone centered around the tumor border in patients with liver cancer, referred to as“the invasive zone”.We detected strong immunosuppression, metabolic reprogramming, and severely damaged hepatocytes in this zone.We also identified a subpopulation of damaged hepatocytes with increased expression of serum amyloid A1 and A2(referred to collectively as SAAs)located close to the border on the paratumor side.Overexpression of CXCL6 in adjacent malignant cells could induce activation of the JAK-STAT3 pathway in nearby hepatocytes, which subsequently caused SAAs’overexpression in these hepatocytes.Furthermore, overexpression and secretion of SAAs by hepatocytes in the invasive zone could lead to the recruitment of macrophages and M2 polarization, further promoting local immunosuppression, potentially resulting in tumor progression.Clinical association analysis in additional five independent cohorts of patients with primary and secondary liver cancer(n=423)showed that patients with overexpression of SAAs in the invasive zone had a worse prognosis.Further in vivo experiments using mouse liver tumor models in situ confirmed that the knockdown of genes encoding SAAs in hepatocytes decreased macrophage accumulation around the tumor border and delayed tumor growth. The identification and characterization of a novel invasive zone in human cancer patients not only add an important layer of understanding regarding the mechanisms of tumor invasion and metastasis, but may also pave the way for developing novel therapeutic strategies for advanced liver cancer and other solid tumors. | Liang Wu Jiayan Yan Yinqi Bai Feiyu Chen Xuanxuan Zou Jiangshan Xu Ao Huang Liangzhen Hou Yu Zhong Zehua Jing Qichao Yu Xiaorui Zhou Zhifeng Jiang Chunqing Wang Mengnan Cheng Yuan Ji Yingyong Hou Rongkui Luo Qinqin Li Liang Wu Jianwen Cheng Pengxiang Wang Dezhen Guo Waidong Huang Junjie Lei Shang Liu Yizhen Yan Yiling Chen Sha Liao Yuxiang Li Haixiang Sun Na Yao Xiangyu Zhang Shiyu Zhang Xi Chen Yang Yu Yao Li Fengming Liu Zheng Wang Shaolai Zhou Huanming Yang Shuang Yang Xun Xu Longqi Liu Qiang Gao Zhaoyou Tang Xiangdong Wang Jian Wang Jia Fan Shiping Liu Xinrong Yang Ao Chen Jian Zhou | 2023 | Cell Research2023,33,8: | 1
Design of flexible inorganic thermoelectric devices for decrease of heat loss显示文摘Thermoelectric(TE)devices can realize the conversion of heat energy and electrical power based on Seebeck effect and Peltier effect.Among them, flexible TE devices have received more attention recently due to their better attachment to various heat sources and aimed components with arbitrary shapes. To improve the performance of flexible TE devices for various application scenarios, large efforts have been made to design the leg patterns, the electrical and thermal contact issues, and the substrate and encapsulation materials for the decrease of heat loss. This paper is to review the advancements about the design of flexible inorganic TE devices over the last decade.Firstly, the design of flexible thin-film TE devices based on the direction of temperature gradient, including the patterns of TE legs, the fabrication methods, and the flexible substrate materials is summarized.Secondly, the design of wearable TE devices that contains common architecture of the module, the substrates and encapsulations, the electrical and thermal contact, and some thin-film based wearable devices with curving TE legs is demonstrated.Thirdly, the characterizations of the flexibility of TE devices and the current applications are outlined. Moreover, some views about the future development for TE devices are proposed. | Defang Ding Fengming Sun Fan Xia Zhiyong Tang | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,7: | 1

Climate evolution of southwest Australia in the Miocene and its main controlling factors显示文摘At present, the seasonal melting and expansion of the Antarctic ice sheet affect the location and intensification of the westerlies, as well as the precipitation and continental weathering and erosion in southwest Australia. The Miocene was an important period when the Earth's climate state transitioned from a warmhouse to an icehouse and the East Antarctic Ice Sheet underwent large-scale melting and expansion. At that time, Australia was closer to the Antarctic region than it is now. This makes Australia an ideal target area for studying the coupling relationship among the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and cryosphere. Based on the comprehensive analysis of the siliciclastic mass accumulation rate, grain size, clay minerals, and elemental composition of the sediments at Site U1516 of the International Ocean Discovery Program Expedition 369, we reconstructed the Miocene climate evolution and the continental weathering and erosion history of southwest Australia on a tectonic time scale. Our indicators show that the climate was dry and that continental weathering and erosion were weak, with a small amount of terrestrial material transported to the ocean during the Early to Middle Miocene(22–12.7 Ma). However, as mentioned in previous studies of nearby sites, precipitation and river runoff increased prominently with enhanced continental weathering at 12.7–8 Ma, which was related to the northward migration or intensification of the westerlies, possibly due to increased sea ice in the Southern Ocean. In addition, we found that the evolution of the South Asian monsoon and the westerly belt were synchronized in the Miocene, which indicates that the South Asian monsoon system at that time may also have been affected by the high-latitude signals of the Southern Hemisphere. We speculate that the significant decrease in deep-sea temperature and the expansion of the surface sea temperature gradient in latitude and longitude until the permanent East Antarctic Ice Sheet formed(~12.8 Ma) played an important role in the transmission of Antarctic signals to low latitudes. | Tianqi SUN Zhaokai XU Fengming CHANG Tiegang LI | 2022 | Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,6: | 0
Efficient removal of tetracycline hydrochloride through novel Fe/BiOBr/Bi_(2)WO_(6) photocatalyst prepared by dual-strategy under visible-light irradiation显示文摘It is important to investigate whether combining two modification strategies has a synergistic effect on the activity of photocatalysts. In this manuscript,Fe-doped BiOBr/Bi_(2)WO_(6) heterojunctions were synthesized by a one-pot solvothermal method, and excellent photocatalytic performance was obtained for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride(TCH)in water without the addition of surfactant.Combining experiments and characterization, the synergistic effect between Fe ion doping and the BiOBr/Bi_(2)WO_(6) heterojunction was elucidated. The Fe/BiOBr/Bi_(2)WO_(6) composite photocatalyst had a beneficial void structure, enhanced visible light response, and could inhibit the recombination of photogenerated support well, which improved the photocatalytic activity. The presented experiments demonstrate that Fe/BiOBr/Bi_(2)WO_(6) removes 97% of TCH from aqueous solution, while pure BiOBr and Bi_(2)WO_(6) only remove 56% and 65% of TCH,respectively. Finally, the separation and transfer mechanisms of photoexcited carriers were determined in conjunction with the experimental results. This study provides a new direction for the design of efficient photocatalysts through the use of a dual co-modification strategy. | Guanlong Yu Kai Yang Yi Yang Yifu Li Qifang Sun Peiyuan Li Wenming Wang Fengming Song Tao Ling Xuejun Peng Zhi Yu Shiquan Sun | 2024 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,4: | 0
