1Seasonal and spatial distributions of euphotic zone and longterm variations in water transparency in a clear oligotrophic Lake Fuxian, China显示文摘To assess the seasonal and spatial variations and long-term trends in water optical properties in Lake Fuxian, investigations based on field work in four seasons and a long-term analysis of data from 1980 to 2014 were conducted. The results show that there was no significant variation in the euphotic depth(Z_(eu)) across the four seasons, and no significant correlations between Z_(eu) and potential influencing factors in seasons other than summer, suggesting that the water itself may be a major factor regulating the Z_(eu)in general. Nevertheless, significant differences in Z_(eu) between the north region(NR) and the south region(SR) were observed in all seasonal tests except spring. This finding relates to a higher abundance of chromophoric dissolved organic matter(CDOM) in the NR due to runoff, especially in the rainy seasons(summer and autumn).CDOM and its terrigenous component had an important impact on Z_(eu)in summer, with the highest precipitation, and impacts from suspended solids and non-algal particles were also found in the NR in summer. The Secchi disk depth in the lake decreased clearly over the years,with significantly negative correlations with the increasing permanganate index and air temperature, implying that organic contaminants(CDOM and/or phytoplankton) are important regulators of water transparency. We estimate that the combined effects of climate warming and changes in land use and land cover are also indirect regulating factors. 2Carbon Stock of Larch Plantations and Its Comparison with an Old-growth Forest in Northeast China显示文摘The overall goal of this study was to understand carbon(C) stock dynamics in four different-aged Japanese larch(Larix kaempferi) plantations in Northeast China that were established after clear-cutting old-growth Korean pine deciduous forests. Four Japanese larch plantations which were at 10, 15, 21, and 35 years old and an old-growth Korean pine deciduous forest which was 300 years old in Northeast China were selected and sampled. We compared the C pools of biomass(tree, shrub and herb), litterfall(LF), and soil organic carbon(SOC) among them. The biomass C stock of larch plantation at 10, 15, 21, and 35 years old was 26.8, 37.9, 63.6, and 83.2 Mg/ha, respectively, while the biomass C stock of the old-growth Korean pine deciduous forest was 175.1 Mg/ha. The SOC stock of these larch plantations was 172.1, 169.7, 140.3, and 136.2 Mg/ha respectively, and SOC stock of 170.4 Mg/ha in the control of old-growth forest. The biomass C stock increased with stand age of larch plantations, whereas SOC stock decreased with age, and C stock of LF did not change significantly(P > 0.05). The increase of biomass C offset the decline of SOC stock with age, making total carbon stock(TCS) of larch plantations stable from stand ages of 10–35 years. 3A flexible skin-mounted wireless acoustic device for bowel sounds monitoring and evaluation显示文摘Conventional methods of intestinal inspection play an essential role in the assessment of bowel diseases and other relevant health issues, yet fail to obtain intestinal conditions in real time because of radiation limits and operation inconvenience. Herein, a flexible, skin-mounted device is developed for longterm, real-time monitoring, and for the evaluation of bowel sounds based on the integration of a threedimensional printed elastomeric resonator with flexible electronics. The device is capable of being flexibly attached to abdominal surfaces without performance degradation during breathing. Clinical tests conduct in a normal volunteer and in patients with mechanical intestinal obstruction or paralytic ileus illustrate the usefulness of the device in capturing the characteristics of bowel sounds. 4Combined peripheral natural killer cell and circulating tumor cell enumeration enhance prognostic efficiency in patients with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer显示文摘Objective:Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)is a heterogeneous disease with poor prognosis.Circulating tumor cells(CTCs)are a promising predictor for breast cancer prognoses but their reliability regarding progression-free survival(PFS)is controversial.We aim to verify their predictive value in TNBC.Methods:In present prospective cohort study,we used the Pep@MNPs method to enumerate CTCs in baseline blood samples from 75 patients with TNBC(taken at inclusion in this study)and analyzed correlations between CTC numbers and outcomes and other clinical parameters.Results:Median PFS was 6.0(range:1.0–25.0)months for the entire cohort,in whom we found no correlations between baseline CTC status and initial tumor stage(P=0.167),tumor grade(P=0.783)or histological type(P=0.084).However,among those getting first-line treatment,baseline CTC status was positively correlated with ratio of peripheral natural killer(NK)cells(P=0.032),presence of lung metastasis(P=0.034)and number of visceral metastatic site(P=0.037).Baseline CTC status was predictive for PFS in first-line TNBC(P=0.033),but not for the cohort as a whole(P=0.118).This prognostic limitation of CTC could be ameliorated by combining CTC and NK cell enumeration(P=0.049).Conclusions:Baseline CTC status was predictive of lung metastasis,peripheral NK cell ratio and PFS in TNBC patients undergoing first-line treatment.We have developed a combined CTC-NK enumeration strategy that allows us to predict PFS in TNBC without any preconditions.Xiaoran Liu Ran Ran Bin Shao Hope S.Rugo Yanlian Yang Zhiyuan Hu Zewen Wei Fengling Wan Weiyao Kong Guohong Song Hanfang Jiang Xu Liang Ruyan Zhang Ying Yan Guobing Xu Huiping Li 2018Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2018,30,3:4
5Genome-wide identification of agronomically important genes in outcrossing crops using OutcrossSeq显示文摘Many important crops(e.g.,tuber,root,and tree crops)are cross-pollinating.For these crops,no inbred lines are available for genetic study and breeding because they are self-incompatible,clonally propagated,or have a long generation time,making the identification of agronomically important genes difficult,particularly in crops with a complex autopolyploid genome.In this study,we developed a method,OutcrossSeq,for mapping agronomically important loci in outcrossing crops based on whole-genome low-coverage resequencing of a large genetic population,and designed three computation algorithms in OutcrossSeq for different types of outcrossing populations.We applied OutcrossSeq to a tuberous root crop(sweet potato,autopolyploid),a tree crop(walnut tree,highly heterozygous diploid),and hybrid crops(double-cross populations)to generate high-density genotype maps for the outcrossing populations,which enable precise identification of genomic loci underlying important agronomic traits.Candidate causative genes at these loci were detected based on functional clues.Taken together,our results indicate that OutcrossSeq is a robust and powerful method for identifying agronomically important genes in heterozygous species,including polyploids,in a cost-efficient way.The OutcrossSeq software and its instruction manual are available for downloading at www.xhhuanglab.cn/tool/OutcrossSeq.html.Mengjiao Chen Weijuan Fan Feiyang Ji Hua Hua Jie Liu Mengxiao Yan Qingguo Ma Jiongjiong Fan Qin Wang Shufeng Zhang Guiling Liu Zhe Sun Changgeng Tian Fengling Zhao Jianli Zheng Qi Zhang Jiaxin Chen Jie Qiu Xin Wei Ziru Chen Peng Zhang Dong Pei Jun Yang Xuehui Huang 2021Molecular Plant2021,14,4:4
6Ecosystem health assessment of urban rivers and lakes-Case study of “the six lakes”in Beijing,China显示文摘The assessment of the ecosystem health of urban rivers and lakes is the scientific basis for their management and ecological restoration.This study developed a three-level indicator system for its assessment.The results indicated that:Zhonghai and Nanhai are in the state of transition from unhealthy to critical state and all the other lakes are in unhealthy states.Water environmental quality,structure and function of the aquatic ecosystem,and the structure of waterfront areas were the constraints.Nanhai was ranked as poor and the others were all ranked as very poor.However,the ecological environment of Zhonghai and Nanhai were better than the others,the sums of the degree of membership to the healthy state and critical state were all close to 0.6.and the restorations of these lakes were moderate.The sums of the degree of membership to the healthy state and critical state of the other lakes were under 0.3,as it was difficult to restore these lakes.Some suggestions on scientific management and ecological restoration of the six lakes were proposed:①To control non-point pollution and to improve the water quality of six lakes and the water entering into these lakes;②To improve the hydrological conditions of six lakes;③To rehabilitate the aquatic ecosystem and waterfront areas.Fengling ZHANG Jingling LIU Zhifeng YANG Yongli LI 2008Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2008,2,2:3

9Numerical simulation on optimization of structure and operating parameters of a novel lean coal decoupling burner显示文摘Due to its low volatile characteristics of lean coal,it is difficult to catch fire and burn out.Therefore,high temperature is needed to maintain combustion efficiency,while,this leads to high nitrogen oxide emission.For power plant boilers burning lean coal,stable combustion with lower nitrogen oxide emission is a challenging task.This study applied the 3D numerical simulation on the analysis of a novel de-coupling burner for low-volatile coal and its structure and operation parameters optimization.Results indicate that although it was more difficult for lean coal decoupling burner to ignite lean coal than high volatile coal,the burner formed a stepwise ignition trend,which promoted the rapid ignition of lean coal.Comparison of three central partition plate structure shows that in terms of characteristics of the flow field distribution,rich and lean separation and combustion,the structure with an inclination of 0°showed good performance,with its rich-lean air ratio being 0.85 and concentration ratio being 22.94,and there was an apparent decoupling combustion characteristic.Finally,the structure of the selected burner was optimized for its operational conditions.The optimal operating parameters was determined as the primary air velocity of 24.9 m·s^-1 and the mass flow rate of pulverized coal of 2.5 kg·s^-1,in which the pyrolysis products were utilized as reductive agent more fully.Eventually,the nitrogen oxide was efficiently reduced to nitrogen,which emission concentration was 61.88%lower than that in the design condition.Jing Wang Ruiping Zhang Fengling Yang Fangqin Cheng 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,11:2
10Ectopic expression of antifreeze protein gene from Ammopiptanthus nanus confers chilling tolerance in maize显示文摘Improved chilling tolerance is important for maize production. Previous efforts in transgenics and marker-assisted breeding have not achieved practical results. In this study, the antifreeze protein(AnAFP) from the super-xerophyte Ammopiptanthus nanus was aligned to KnS-type dehydrins.Phosphorylation in vitro and subcellular localization showed that AnAFP was phosphorylated by maize casein kinase II and translocated from nucleus to cytoplasm under chilling stress. AnAFP also increased lactate dehydrogenase activity. A parent line of commercial maize hybrids was transformed with the AnAFP gene. Based on thermal asymmetric interlaced PCR, one hemizygous and two homozygous integration sites were identified in one T_(1) line. Ectopic expression of AnAFP in transgenic lines was confirmed by quantitative real-time PCR, RNA-seq, and Western blotting. After chilling treatment, the transgenic lines showed significantly improved phenotype, higher kernel production, survival rate and biomass, and lower relative electrolyte leakage and superoxide dismutation than the untransformed line. 16Low-coordinated surface sites make truncated Pd tetrahedrons as robust ORR electrocatalysts outperforming Pt for DMFC devices显示文摘Developing highly stable and active non-Pt oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)electrocatalysts for power generation device raises great concerns and remains a challenge.Here,we report novel truncated Pd tetrahedrons(T-Pd-Ths)enclosed by{111}facets with excellent uniformity,which have both low-coordinated surface sites and distinct lattice distortions that would induce“local strain”.In alkaline electrolyte,the T-Pd-Ths/C achieves remarkable ORR specific/mass activity(SA/MA)of 2.46 mA·cm^(−2)/1.69 A·mgPd^(−1),which is 12.3/16.9 and 10.7/14.1 times higher than commercial Pd/C and Pt/C,respectively.The T-Pd-Ths/C also exhibits high in-situ carbon monoxide(CO)tolerance and 50,000 cycles durability with an activity loss of 7.69%and morphological stability.The rotating ring-disk electrode(RRDE)measurements show that a 4-electron process occurs on T-PdThs/C.Theoretical calculations demonstrate that the low-coordinated surface sites contribute largely to the enhancement of ORR activity.In actual direct methanol fuel cell(DMFC)device,the T-Pd-Ths/C delivers superior open-circuit voltage(OCV)and peak power density(PPD)to commercial Pt/C from 25 to 80℃,and the maximum PPD can reach up to 163.7 mW·cm−2.This study demonstrates that the T-Pd-Ths/C holds promise as alternatives to Pt for ORR in DMFC device.Xiaoling Wang Jingwei Li Xiaotong Yang Fengling Zhao Yongfei Li Daliang Zhang Li-Yong Gan Ke Xin Yao Qiang Yuan 2022Nano Research2022,15,9:1
17Bioceramic scaffolds with triply periodic minimal surface architectures guide early-stage bone regeneration显示文摘The pore architecture of porous scaffolds is a critical factor in osteogenesis,but it is a challenge to precisely configure strut-based scaffolds because of the inevitable filament corner and pore geometry deformation.This study provides a pore architecture tailoring strategy in which a series of Mg-doped wollastonite scaffolds with fully interconnected pore networks and curved pore architectures called triply periodic minimal surfaces(TPMS),which are similar to cancellous bone,are fabricated by a digital light processing technique.The sheet-TPMS pore geometries(s-Diamond,s-Gyroid)contribute to a 3‒4-fold higher initial compressive strength and 20%-40%faster Mg-ion-release rate compared to the other-TPMS scaffolds,including Diamond,Gyroid,and the Schoen’s I-graph-Wrapped Package(IWP)in vitro.However,we found that Gyroid and Diamond pore scaffolds can significantly induce osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs).Analyses of rabbit experiments in vivo show that the regeneration of bone tissue in the sheet-TPMS pore geometry is delayed;on the other hand,Diamond and Gyroid pore scaffolds show notable neo-bone tissue in the center pore regions during the early stages(3-5 weeks)and the bone tissue uniformly fills the whole porous network after 7 weeks.Collectively,the design methods in this study provide an important perspective for optimizing the pore architecture design of bioceramic scaffolds to accelerate the rate of osteogenesis and promote the clinical translation of bioceramic scaffolds in the repair of bone defects.Miaoda Shen Yifan Li Fengling Lu Yahui Gou Cheng Zhong Shukun He Chenchen Zhao Guojing Yang Lei Zhang Xianyan Yang Zhongru Gou Sanzhong Xu 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,7:1

20Ficolin-2 binds to HIV-1 gp120 and blocks viral infection显示文摘Ficolin-2 is a lectin complement pathway activator present in normal human plasma and usually associated with infectious diseases, but little is known about the role of ficolin-2 in human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) infection. Here, we describe our novel findings that serum ficolin-2concentrations of 103 HIV-1 patients were much higher compared to those of 57 healthy donors. In vitro analysis showed that HIV-1 infection could enhance ficolin-2 expression. We further demonstrated that recombinant ficolin-2 protein could bind with HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp120, and subsequently induce complement dependent cytotoxicity. Moreover, ficolin-2 could block the entry of HIV-1 into target cells(TZM-b1 and MT-2 cells) and infection in a ficolin-2 dosedependent manner.
