| 1 | Combined genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic an alyses provide in sights into chayote (Sechium edule) evolution and fruit development显示文摘Chayote(Sechium edule)is an agricultural crop in the Cucurbitaceae family that is rich in bioactive components.To enhance genetic research on chayote,we used Nanopore third-generation sequencing combined with Hi-C data to assemble a draft chayote genome.A chromosome-level assembly anchored on 14 chromosomes(N50 contig and scaffold sizes of 8.40 and 46.56 Mb,respectively)estimated the genome size as 606.42 Mb,which is large for the Cucurbitaceae,with 65.94%(401.08 Mb)ofthe genome comprising repetitive sequences;28,237 protein-coding genes were predicted.Comparative genome analysis indicated that chayote and snake gourd diverged from sponge gourd and that a whole-genome duplication(WGD)event occurred in chayote at 25±4 Mya.Transcriptional and metabolic analysis revealed genes involved in fruit texture,pigment,fl avor,fl avonoids,antioxidants,and plant hormones during chayote fruit development.The analysis of the genome,transcriptome,and metabolome provides insights into chayote evolution and lays the groundwork for future research on fruit and tuber development and genetic improvements in chayote. | Anzhen Fu Qing Wang Jianlou Mu Lili Ma Changlong Wen Xiaoyan Zhao Lipu Gao Jian Li Kai Shi Yunxiang Wang Xuechuan Zhang Xuewen Zhang Fengling Wang Donald Grierson Jinhua Zuo | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021,8,1: | 6 |
| 2 | A flexible skin-mounted wireless acoustic device for bowel sounds monitoring and evaluation显示文摘Conventional methods of intestinal inspection play an essential role in the assessment of bowel diseases and other relevant health issues, yet fail to obtain intestinal conditions in real time because of radiation limits and operation inconvenience. Herein, a flexible, skin-mounted device is developed for longterm, real-time monitoring, and for the evaluation of bowel sounds based on the integration of a threedimensional printed elastomeric resonator with flexible electronics. The device is capable of being flexibly attached to abdominal surfaces without performance degradation during breathing. Clinical tests conduct in a normal volunteer and in patients with mechanical intestinal obstruction or paralytic ileus illustrate the usefulness of the device in capturing the characteristics of bowel sounds. | 3 | Anti-tumor Activity of Biodegradable Polymer-paclitaxel Conjugated Micelle Against Mice U14 Cervical Cancers显示文摘Two kinds of paclitaxel(PTX) conjugate micelles,of which one contained 25%(mass fraction) PTX [M(PTX)] and the other contained 22.5%(mass fraction) of PTX and 1.4%(mass fraction) of folate(FA)[FA-M(PTX)],were prepared for cell apoptosis and anti-tumor activity evaluation on U14 cervical cancer mouse models in comparison with 0.9%(mass fraction) saline(control) and equivalent Taxol.Seven days after tail intravenous injection of the drugs,the mice were sacrificed to measure the tumor masses.The average tumor masses were 4.26,2.89,2.63,and 2.17 g for the control,Taxol,M(PTX) and FA-M(PTX) groups,respectively.The inhibition rates of tumor growth calculated for the three drug groups were 32%,38% and 49%,respectively.Flow cytometry(FC) analysis and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase(TdT)-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate(dUTP) nick end labeling(TUNEL) assay were conducted on the cancer tissues.The cell apoptosis rates based on the FC data and the TUNEL data were 20%,31%,37%,42%,and 10%,22%,26%,34%,respectively,both showing statistically significant differences(P<0.05) between three drug groups and the control group,and between the FA-M(PTX) group and the other two drug groups.In conclusion,the composite FA-M(PTX) micelles can be used for U14 cervical cancer treatment. | CHEN Fengl DONG Danl FU Yan ZHENG Yong-hui LIU Shi CHANG Ming-xin JING Xia-bin | 2012 | Chemical Research in Chinese Universities2012,28,4: | 4 |

| 5 | Ectopic expression of antifreeze protein gene from Ammopiptanthus nanus confers chilling tolerance in maize显示文摘Improved chilling tolerance is important for maize production. Previous efforts in transgenics and marker-assisted breeding have not achieved practical results. In this study, the antifreeze protein(AnAFP) from the super-xerophyte Ammopiptanthus nanus was aligned to KnS-type dehydrins.Phosphorylation in vitro and subcellular localization showed that AnAFP was phosphorylated by maize casein kinase II and translocated from nucleus to cytoplasm under chilling stress. AnAFP also increased lactate dehydrogenase activity. A parent line of commercial maize hybrids was transformed with the AnAFP gene. Based on thermal asymmetric interlaced PCR, one hemizygous and two homozygous integration sites were identified in one T_(1) line. Ectopic expression of AnAFP in transgenic lines was confirmed by quantitative real-time PCR, RNA-seq, and Western blotting. After chilling treatment, the transgenic lines showed significantly improved phenotype, higher kernel production, survival rate and biomass, and lower relative electrolyte leakage and superoxide dismutation than the untransformed line. | 7 | Bioactive glass promotes the barrier functional behaviors of keratinocytes and improves the Re-epithelialization in wound healing in diabetic rats显示文摘Upon skin injury,re-epithelialization must be triggered promptly to restore the integrity and barrier function of the epidermis.However,this process is often delayed or interrupted in chronic wounds like diabetic foot ulcers.Considering that BG particles can activate multiple genes in various cells,herein,we hypothesized that bioactive glass(BG)might be able to modulate the barrier functional behaviors of keratinocytes.By measuring the transepithelial electrical resistance(TEER)and the paracellular tracer flux,we found the 58S-BG extracts substantially enhanced the barrier function of keratinocyte monolayers.The BG extracts might exert such effects by promoting the keratinocyte differentiation and the formation of tight junctions,as evidenced by the increased expression of critical differentiation markers(K10 and involucrin)and TJ protein claudin-1,as well as the altered subcellular location of four major TJ proteins(claudin-1,occludin,JAM-A,and ZO-1).Besides,the cell scratch assay showed that BG extracts induced the collective migration of keratinocytes,though they did not accelerate the migration rate compared to the control.The in vivo study using a diabetic rat wound model demonstrated that the BG extracts accelerated the process of re-epithelialization,stimulated keratinocyte differentiation,and promoted the formation of tight junctions in the newly regenerated epidermis.Our findings revealed the crucial effects of BGs on keratinocytes and highlighted its potential application for chronic wound healing by restoring the barrier function of the wounded skin effectively. | Fengling Tang Junliang Li Weihan Xie Yunfei Mo Lu Ouyang Fujian Zhao Xiaoling Fu Xiaofeng Chen | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,10: | 1 |
| 8 | Record-Breaking Frequency of 44 GHz Based on the Higher Order Mode of Surface Acoustic Waves with LiNbO_(3)/SiO_(2)/SiC Heterostructures显示文摘Surface acoustic wave (SAW) technology has been extensively explored for wireless communication, sensors, microfluidics, photonics, and quantum information processing. However, due to fabrication issues, the frequencies of SAW devices are typically limited to within a few gigahertz, which severely restricts their applications in 5G communication, precision sensing, photonics, and quantum control. To solve this critical problem, we propose a hybrid strategy that integrates a nanomanufacturing process (i.e., nanolithography) with a LiNbO_(3)/SiO_(2)/SiC heterostructure and successfully achieve a record-breaking frequency of about 44 GHz for SAW devices, in addition to large electromechanical coupling coefficients of up to 15.7%. We perform a theoretical analysis and identify the guided higher order wave modes generated on these slow-on-fast SAW platforms. | 9 | A new strategy to minimize humidity influences on acoustic wave ultraviolet sensors using ZnO nanowires wrapped with hydrophobic silica nanoparticles显示文摘Surface acoustic wave(SAW)technology has been widely developed for ultraviolet(UV)detection due to its advantages of miniaturization,portability,potential to be integrated with microelectronics,and passive/wireless capabilities.To enhance UV sensitivity,nanowires(NWs),such as ZnO,are often applied to enhance SAW-based UV detection due to their highly porous and interconnected 3D network structures and good UV sensitivity.However,ZnO NWs are normally hydrophilic,and thus,changes in environmental parameters such as humidity will significantly influence the detection precision and sensitivity of SAW-based UV sensors.To solve this issue,in this work,we proposed a new strategy using ZnO NWs wrapped with hydrophobic silica nanoparticles as the effective sensing layer.Analysis of the distribution and chemical bonds of these hydrophobic silica nanoparticles showed that numerous C-F bonds(which are hydrophobic)were found on the surface of the sensitive layer,which effectively blocked the adsorption of water molecules onto the ZnO NWs.This new sensing layer design minimizes the influence of humidity on the ZnO NW-based UV sensor within the relative humidity range of 10–70%.The sensor showed a UV sensitivity of 9.53 ppm(mW/cm^(2))^(−1),with high linearity(R^(2) value of 0.99904),small hysteresis(<1.65%)and good repeatability.This work solves the long-term dilemma of ZnO NW-based sensors,which are often sensitive to humidity changes. | Yihao Guo Jian Zhou Zhangbin Ji Yanghui Liu Rongtao Cao Fengling Zhuo Kaitao Tan Huigao Duan Yongqing Fu | 2022 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2022,8,6: | 0 |
| 10 | Follow-up of two victims of a 60Co-source radiation accident in 1986, Kaifeng, Henan Province, China显示文摘Objective:To explore the late effects of acute radiation exposure through the follow-up of two victims of a 60Cosource radiation accident,who suffered moderate acute radiation sickness of bone marrow type.Methods:On May 26,1986,a power failure occurred suddenly at an irradiation plant in Kaifeng,Henan Province,China,during which two workers at the site,named Liang and Yan,accidentally entered the 60Co-source irradiation cell in service.Long-term medical observations were carried out on them following the accident.Results:The late effects of the accident on Liang and Yan were observed.The main manifestations of Liang were hypomnesia and visual impairment.A typical radiation-induced cataract developed 2 years after exposure.Local cutaneous radiation injury and resultant five operations were performed within a period of five years after exposure.The decrease in the number and low viability of his sperms was found 1 year after exposure.The decrease in his leukocytes and platelets occurred during 1–5 years after exposure.He died from intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma 21 years after exposure.For Yan,the main manifestations included headache,dizziness,fatigue,insomnia,and susceptibility to cold just after exposure.She had intermittent menolipsis at age 41.The leukocytes was fluctuating in the range of(3.1–3.9)109/L 14–24 years after exposure.A decrease in estradiol(reproductive hormone)and an increase in follicle-stimulating hormone were observed.Thyroid nodules were detected by thyroid ultrasound 21 years after exposure.She died from acute myeloid leukemia(AML)32 years after exposure.Conclusions:Follow-up of victims exposed to a high activity radiation source should focus on the organs sensitive to radiation and on the radiation-induced carcinogenesis. | Fengling Zhao Jifeng Yang Yumin Lyu Quanfu Sun Baohua Fu | 2020 | Radiation Medicine and Protection2020,1,4: | 0 |
