1In vitro meat production: Challenges and benefits over conventional meat production显示文摘In vitro meat production system is the production of meat outside the food animals by culturing the stem cells derived from farm animals inside the bioreactor by using advanced tissue engineering techniques. Besides winning the favour of animal rights activists for its humane production of meat, in vitro meat production system also circumvents many of the issues associated with conventional meat production systems, like excessively brutal slaughter of food animals, nutrition-related diseases, foodborne illnesses, resource use, antibiotic-resistant pathogen strains, and massive emissions of methane that contribute to global warming. As the conditions in an in vitro meat production system are controlled and manipulatable, it will be feasible to produce designer, chemically safe and disease-free meat on sustainable basis. However, many challenges are to be faced before cultured meat becomes commercially feasible. 3Deflection amplification factor for estimating seismic lateral deformations of RC frames显示文摘Different values have been assigned to the ratio of the defl ection amplifi cation factor(Cd) to the response modifi cation factor(R) for a specifi ed force-resisting system in the seismic design provisions while the same application is defi ned for it. An analytical study of the seismic responses of several reinforced concrete frames subjected to a suite of earthquake records performed in this research indicate that the stories' overstrength and stiffness distribution along the structural height can affect local defl ections more than global ones. Therefore, the Cd/R ratio is calculated based on the ratio of both maximum inelastic to maximum elastic displacements and interstory drifts. Due to damage concentration in some specifi c stories, the defl ection amplifi cation factor calculated based on inelastic interstory drifts was larger than that of the inelastic displacements. Consequently, a minimum value of 1.0 is recommended for the Cd/R ratio in order to estimate maximum inelastic drifts. The ratio of inelastic to elastic displacement was generally found to increase slightly along the structural height for the studied RC models. 4Lighting preferences in office spaces concerning the indoor thermal environment显示文摘The accurate prediction of the visual comfort zone in an indoor environment is difficult as it depends on many parameters.This is especially the case for large compact urban areas in which the density and shadow from neighboring buildings can limit the accessible daylighting in indoor spaces.This paper investigates the satisfaction range for illuminance regarding indoor air temperature in office buildings and the significant parameters affecting this range in six office buildings in Tehran,Iran.Lighting comfort has been evaluated by a subjective survey(509 total responses)and field measurement.The questionnaires were filled out in 146 and 109 rooms in summer and winter,respectively.The results show that the illuminance should not be less than 550 lx,while illuminance between 600 and 650 lx provides the highest satisfaction level.The satisfaction with lighting level is affected by individual parameters such as age,type of activity,and environmental parameters such as window orientation,external obscurations,and season.A relationship was observed between lighting level satisfaction and thermal condition acceptance,and the overall comfort depends more on thermal conditions than the lighting level.Maryam Fakhari Rima Fayaz Somayeh Asadi 2021Frontiers of Architectural Research2021,10,3:2
