1Carbonatites and Alkaline Igneous Rocks in Post-Collisional Settings:Storehouses of Rare Earth Elements显示文摘The rare earth elements(REE)are critical raw materials for much of modern technology,particularly renewable energy infrastructure and electric vehicles that are vital for the energy transition.Many of the world's largest REE deposits occur in alkaline rocks and carbonatites,which are found in intracontinental,rift-related settings,and also in syn-to post-collisional settings.Post-collisional settings host significant REE deposits,such as those of the Mianning-Dechang belt in China.This paper reviews REE mineralization in syn-to post-collisional alkaline-carbonatite complexes worldwide,in order to demonstrate some of the key physical and chemical features of these deposits.We use three examples,in Scotland,Namibia,and Turkey,to illustrate the structure of these systems.We review published geochemical data and use these to build up a broad model for the REE mineral system in post-collisional alkaline-carbonatite complexes.It is evident that immiscibility of carbonate-rich magmas and fluids plays an important part in generating mineralization in these settings,with REE,Ba and F partitioning into the carbonate-rich phase.The most significant REE mineralization in post-collisional alkaline-carbonatite complexes occurs in shallow-level,carbothermal or carbonatite intrusions,but deeper carbonatite bodies and associated alteration zones may also have REE enrichment.Kathryn M.Goodenough Eimear A.Deady Charles D.Beard Sam Broom-Fendley Holly ALElliott Frederick van den Berg HüseyinÖztürk 2021Journal of Earth Science2021,32,6:2

6Towards a scientific rationale for traditional properties of Chinese medicinal plants: “natures” and “flavors”显示文摘Objective: According to theory of Chinese medicine property, the ecological environment shapes properties(natures and flavors) of Chinese materia medica(CMM) and there are close relationships between certain natures and flavors. However, to date these observations have not been validated scientifically in the context of the whole flora of a region. The present study aims to address this gap.Methods: We collected geographical distributions of 3637 vascular plant species native to the Xinjiang region of northwest China, of which around 812 are medicinal plants. The CMM property characters of these medicinal plants were also collected. All medicinal plants were then analyzed in the occurrence of their natures(cold, cool, neutral, warm, and hot) and flavors(sweet, bitter, sour, salty, and pungent). Possible correlations between these properties and environmental factors, notably climate, as well as correlations with plant species richness of the wider native flora of Xinjiang were then investigated using permutation test and regression.Results: Cold species(38.5%) were more numerous than warm(21.0%) and neutral(22.3%), while bitter species(43.3%) were more numerous than pungent(25.6%), sweet(22.4%) and sour(6.7%) ones. Species with bitter flavor were most commonly also cold(48.6%) in nature, sour flavor usually coincided with cold(44.2%) or cool nature(26.0%), whereas pungent or sweet species tended to be warm(34.4%, 28.4%) or neutral(27.8%, 28.4%). The percentages of species of cold/cool nature, bitter flavor were higher in mountainous regions, and the percentages of warm/neutral and pungent/sweet/sour were higher in basins. The percentages of species of cold/cool, bitter were positively correlated with actual evapotranspiration(AET),and also plant species richness but had a bell-shaped relationship with potential evapotranspiration(PET),whereas the inverse situation was shown for warm/neutral and pungent/sweet/sour species.Conclusion: Analysis of the data in Xinjiang region of China supports the qualitative observations concerning natures and flavors in traditional theory of Chinese medicine property. 18On the rocks:Biogeography and floristic identity of rocky ecosystems in eastern South America显示文摘The geodiversity of rocky ecosystems includes diverse plant communities with specific names,but their continental-scale floristic identity and the knowledge on the role of macroclimate remain patchy.Here,we assessed the identity of plant communities in eastern Brazil across multiple types of rocky landscapes and evaluated the relative importance of climatic variables in constraining floristic differentiation.We provided lists of diagnostic species and an assessment of the conservation status of the identified floristic groups.We compiled a data set of 151 sites(4498 species)from rocky ecosystems,including campos rupestres,campos de altitude,granitic-gneiss lowland inselbergs,and limestone outcrops.We used unsupervised clustering analysis followed by ANosiM to assess floristic groups among sites.We performed a random forest variable selection to test whether the identified floristic groups occupy distinct climatic spaces.Six groups(lithobiomes)segregated floristically according to lithology and climate.Alongside campos de altitude and limestone outcrops,inselbergs were divided according to the biome in which they occur(Atlantic Forest or Caatinga),and campos rupestres were largely segregated according to their lithological matrix(ironstone or quartzitic).Plant communities of Caatinga inselbergs were more similar to limestone outcrops,while Atlantic Forest inselbergs communities resembled campos de altitude.The composition of plant communities on outcrops seems to be largely constrained by lithology,but climatic factors are also meaningful for sites with similar lithology.The current network of protected areas does not cover these unique ecosystems and their floristic heterogeneity,with Caatinga inselbergs and limestoneoutcrops beingtheleastprotected.Luisa Azevedo Daniela Cristina Zappi Daniela Melo Garcia de Oliveira Leila Meyer Eimear Nic Lughadha Rosie Clegg Leonardo Dias Meireles Pablo Hendrigo Alves de Melo R.Toby Pennington Danilo M.Neves 2024Journal of Systematics and Evolution2024,62,2:0
