| 1 | Postoperative ileus: Impact of pharmacological treatment,laparoscopic surgery and enhanced recovery pathways显示文摘Almost all patients develop postoperative ileus (POI) after abdominal surgery.POI represents the single largest factor influencing length of stay (LOS) after bowel resection,and has great implications for patients and resource utilization in health care.New methods to treat and decrease the length of POI are therefore of great importance.During the past decade,a substantial amount of research has been performed evaluating POI,and great progress has been made in our understanding and treatment of POI.Laparoscopic procedures,enhanced recovery pathways and pharmacologic treatment have been introduced.Each factor has substantially contributed to decreasing the length of POI and thus LOS after bowel resection.This editorial outlines resource utilization of POI,normal physiology of gut motility and pathogenesis of POI.Pharmacological treatment,fast track protocols and laparoscopic surgery can each have significant impact on pathways causing POI.The optimal integration of these treatment options continues to be assessed in prospective studies. | Knut Magne Augestad Conor P Delaney | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010，16，17： | 33 |

| 3 | Cyclooxygenase-2 plays a central role in the genesis of pancreatitis and associated lung injury显示文摘BACKGROUND: The exact mechanism by which cyclooxy- genase-2 (COX-2) promotes inflammation in pancreatitis in obscure. This study was undertaken to investigate the role of COX-2 inhibition in an animal model of pancreati- tis , a disease process characterized by a systemic inflamma- tory response and ensuing neutrophil-mediated lung injury. METHODS: Pancreatitis was induced in 24 Sprague-Daw- ley rats by intraperitoneal injection of 20% L-arginine (500 mg/100 g body weight). The animals were randomized into 3 groups (8 rats in each group); controls and rats with pancreatitis intravenously resuscitated with either normal saline (0.9% NaCl 3 ml/kg) at 24 and 48 hours or COX-2 inhibitor (parecoxib 1 mg/kg). Pancreatic and lung inju- ries were assessed histologically. Lung injury was assessed utilizing wet;dry ratio and myeloperoxidase activity to in- dicate pulmonary neutrophil infiltration. A Western blot was used to determine COX-2 protein expression in pancrea- tic tissue. RESULTS: The animals treated with COX-2 inhibitors dis- played significantly less pancreatic and lung injuries than their normal saline counterparts. Histological pancreatic and lung injury scores were significantly reduced (P <0.05) in the COX-2 treated group. Lung wet: dry ratios were sig- nificantly improved and pulmonary neutrophil infiltration was attenuated in the COX-2 group (P<0.05). Western blot analysis confirmed attenuated COX-2 protein expression. | 6 | Breeding system and pollination ecology of a potentially invasive alien Clematis vitalba L.in Ireland显示文摘Aims Invasive alien plants can greatly affect native communities and eco-system processes but only a small fraction of alien plant species become invasive.Barriers to establishment and invasion include reproductive limitations.Clematis vitalba L.has been a popular hor-ticultural species for the past century and is widely distributed and can be highly invasive.In Ireland,it is considered naturalized and potentially invasive.Despite this,little is known about its reproduc-tive biology.Methods We carried out manipulative field experiments in Ireland and com-pared fruit and seed set from a number of pollination treatments,namely cross-pollination,geitonogamy,autogamy and natural pol-lination.We also recorded floral visitation to C.vitalba through a series of timed observations.Important Findings We found that C.vitalba is capable of uniparental reproduction via geitonogamy and autonomous selfing,albeit at a reduced rate com-pared with outcrossing treatments.Clematis vitalba was visited by at least 10 native pollinator taxa,with hoverflies dominating visitation.Neither fruit set nor seed set in our study population was pollen limited.Given the lack of reproductive constraint,C.vitalba may easily spread in suitable habitats.This is of concern in Ireland,given its prevalence in some of the country’s most floristically diverse regions. | Conor M.Redmond Jane C.Stout | 2018 | Journal of Plant Ecology2018，11，1： | 4 |
